In this episode, I sit down with Shaun Quincey, adventurer, entrepreneur, and the second person in history to row solo across the Tasman Sea. From taking on one of the world's most treacherous ocean crossings to building a thriving business empire, Shaun's story is one of resilience, grit, and relentless determination.Shaun reflects on his journey, the lessons learned from his record-breaking adventure, and how his father's legacy as the first person to row the Tasman Sea inspired his own pursuit of greatness. We also delve into his transition from adventurer to entrepreneur and the mindset shifts that made it all possible. We cover:Shaun's decision to row 2,200km across the Tasman and the life-or-death challenges he faced on the journey. The influence of his father's world-first record and the pressure to forge his own path. The moment he almost gave up mid-ocean and how he turned fear into gratitude and clarity. How Shaun built a buy-now-pay-later business from scratch and sold it in a multi-million-dollar deal. The importance of resilience, routine, and finding purpose in hard work — whether on the water or in business.Practical advice on teaching resilience to the next generation and thriving under pressure. If you're inspired by stories of grit, adventure, and the pursuit of purpose, this conversation with Shaun Quincey will leave you motivated to tackle your own challenges head-on.This episode was proudly sponsored by NZ Mortgages. Shaun Quincey is a top business executive and angel investor helping fund Kiwi business dreams. But before that he became the only person to have successfully rowed solo from Australia to New Zealand and became a top selling author after writing a book about it. We spent the first half talking about his epic solo Tasman voyage, which took two years of planning and 54 days of rowing in the world's most treacherous stretches of water. This story is insane, and includes yarns about rowing into whales, flipping his boat and being trapped under it for 30 minutes, self-doubt, elite mindset and how his dad is the only other person to have rowed the Tasman solo – in the other direction in 1977. Then in the second half we talk about his incredible business success. Shaun is the founder of Genoapay, which quickly became one of the fastest growing payment companies in New Zealand. Within 6 months, the company was valued at close to 10 million dollars. Genoapay was acquired by Latitude where Shaun became General Manager, before taking up roles as a Director at IceHouse Ventures and Payleadr. He is now CEO and Co-founder of Simfuni – which was named the Insurtech start-up of the year in 2024. All that is to say – what he has achieved since rowing the Tasman is equally impressive as his epic sea expedition. This is a ripper of an ep, Shaun is authentic, self-deprecating and funny – with so much wisdom to share. And we're so stoked to be able to announce him as the latest addition to B2B Speakers. So if you love what you hear, and would like Shaun to share his story at your function or event, flick us a message by going to B2Bspeakers.co.nz. We all went through this awful conditioning from the society…You should not..And you should… Regardless where I am looking the society is wrong. Because of hypocrites, wrong life models, bad lifestyle, promoting drugs, and no religious life! Imagine you are driving a car and you like to get a parking lot. The driver behind you is unfair and picking away your parking lot… What to do? Swallow down your anger and getting problems with your stomach??? Or we curse to get rid of our anger? No, we can't do so, because we are civilized Hippocrates?! We come home find a victim and get rid of our boiling anger. Because we always need somebody, who is weaker than us to punish him/her for our anger. And the reasons we find always. But not me… In Chi Gong, anger is related to the liver and the sound SH (like Sh.t). For some time, we make the ton SH with all of our power; support it with making fists or massaging the liver. We massage the liver under the right rib cage, we dig from the belly our hands under the ribs and massage, or just tap with one hand the liver, and the other hand is below the navel. Or we can curse with Sh.t, F..k it… The most important thing is that we don't harm our body or other people with our anger! If we come home with all of our gathered anger, do you think that we are great entertainers or lovers? Release your anger. For instance: I was working in a very chaotic firm, we had too much work, my colleagues had been in East Germany. And I had to solve all the technical problems in North Germany and to finish my project.I was p..sed off. It was Friday, I got a call just before I left to home. Our harbor crane is not working anymore… I thought, what the hell I have to do with a harbor crane, I am not an engineer for such stupid mechanics from a crane. I had to drive through the rush hour 140 Km with our van. I was fortunate that I had enough time to get rid of my anger through yelling and cursing when I was driving on the highway. I arrived quite relaxed, 2 hours later. As usual, I had no clue how to solve this problem. I asked and got the right idea from the people. I repaired the crane and went home.At 10 pm I came home, meditated… 4 am I went up, made my body exercise, meditated and went 200Km to the next technical problem in a color factory. Without releasing of my anger and frustration through cursing, I would never have solved all technical difficulties by working 80hours/week! What is bad on cursing??? Do what works and not what we have learned from the society! My Video: Why cursing helps you? https://youtu.be/1IOrTtsqs9cMy Audio on Podcast: RELAX WITH MEDITATION or see link in the end. SBT RDX - Ep142 In this walking pod I offer some lessons I learned during the 2024 SBT GRVL race. I competed on the Black course and suffered epic cramps with about 35KM to go in the race, something I have never experienced in over 35 years of bike racing. I discuss some hypothetical explanations for this outcome and also share thoughts on the race load for someone such as myself who trains a reasonable amount by normal person standards, but arguably not enough to race a 200KM gravel race. In the end, I conclude that I simply overcooked myself heading into this event. Being fresh is critical for any race that will eventually bring you to your knees. Somehow after all this time showing up for bike races, I managed to miss the mark on this one. Hopefully my experience illustrates how easy it is to do this, even for someone as experienced as I am at playing stretchy bike time.

It's the return of the big bangers! The Supercar circus is back in NZ, with two 200KM races set to tear around the pumice surrounded Taupo International Motorsport Park this weekend. The fans tears have all but dried up now, the mourning period for the old lady that was Pukekohe is well and truly over. There's a new kid in town, slap bang in the middle of the North Island ready to make its mark on the Aussie touring car series. The circuit, given more than a spit and polish by new owner and man behind the magnificent Highlands Park and Hampton Downs, Tony Quinn, is prepped and ready to shred the 24 strong grid. Tony Quinn has been a godsend for racecar enthusiasts here, a bloke who has been willing to pour his considerable wealth into the game up and down Aotearoa, a genuine fan and supporter of dare I say it, when you look at the proliferation of success stories behind the wheel globally, our national sport. Out the shadow of the death of NZs greatest motorsport philanthropist, Sir Colin Giltrap, Tony Quinn steps into the light. He should be celebrated; indeed, this weekend will be the party that he merits, hand in hand with the wake that Sir Colin deserves. The race weekend is something this country dearly needs, the district itself, is expecting an injection of tourist dollars somewhere in the vicinity of $6 million bucks on the back of 100,000 petrol-soaked tourists. The races themselves will be a treat as well, the Taupo circuit being a true test of the skills of the field. It's twisty AF, with varying surface conditions on a circuit new to most teams. The 5 Kiwi involved all have experience there, which gives them the upper hand, each character looking to fill the void left by van Gisbergen and McLaughlin. The weather looks to be wet and wild, another reason to give the locals a hand throughout the 400 km of racing. This is the dawning of a new era, based on what Quinn and his team have achieved, a long era at that. Locked in for 2 more years, one would like to think that this event will be the new pride and joy of not motorsports but NZ's international sporting calendar. That'll do.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

We live in a world of rising uncertainty. We live in a world where there's an abundance of information that is impossible to sort through, add to that the fact that many leaders, including you dear listener, are griding, hustling, going 200KM per hour, simply put, there is a lot to do, and very little time to do it, so many of us don't have time to sort through information, to analyze what is presented to us. What do we do? We outsource our thinking to gurus and experts. We turn to them for solutions, advice, for counsel. This practice of outsourcing our thinking has weakened our ability to think for ourselves, and in this complex world, a leader must be able to think for themselves. And so in today's podcast, we will explore the perils of outsourcing your thinking and breaking down how we can reclaim our power and develop an ability to think for ourselves. I am joined by Vikram Mansharamani, the author of the recently-released THINK FOR YOURSELF: Restoring Common Sense in an Age of Experts and Artificial Intelligence and BOOMBUSTOLOGY: Spotting Financial Bubbles Before They Burst. Here is a link to his workhttp://www.mansharamani.com

Thiago interviews Nicholas Ng who is a 3rd-year medical student at the University of Ottawa who has adopted unorthodox study methods in order for him to cope with his immense workload and sky-rocket his productivity. He loves running (admittedly a little too much) and will often log more than 200km per week on his Strava account. He's a strong believer in total body wellness, his Christian faith, and connecting with his community back home in Toronto. Despite being inundated with schoolwork, he still manages to find the time to work on several research projects simultaneously and serve on multiple school comities such as the Christian Medical and Dental Association, the Equity Diversity, Inclusion and Anti-Racism Taskforce, the Professionalism Committee, the Doctors of Ottawa Team as well as being a lead science editor for COVID-19 Central. Nick shares how important it is for people to be grounded in values such as Honesty, Responsibility, and Altruism. Thiago and Nick talk about how they try to be productive in Medical school and for Nick exercise is a major part of it. He runs 200 Kilometres every week, which is about 2 hr and 45min a day. We talk about how to enjoy the process rather than just the end result and how that can change the way you study. Nick also shares the 3 traits that he believes makes someone Unstoppable: Humble, Unique, Grounded in Values Reach out to Nick here: nicholaskvng@gmail.com ☕ Support This Podcast: www.buymeacoffee.com/thiagolusvarghi
