If your child is struggling in school, melting down over homework, falling behind in reading, zoning out in class, or constantly overwhelmed, it can leave you feeling unsure of what to do next. You know they're bright. You know they're trying. But something isn't clicking. In this episode, we sit down with Dr. Kimberly Hinman, a licensed psychologist and owner of Bloom Testing, a Kansas City–based practice specializing in high quality psychoeducational, neuropsychological, and autism evaluations for children, teens, and adults. What You'll Hear in This Episode In this conversation, we talk about what it really looks like to pursue clarity when a child is struggling including: The earliest signs a child may be struggling academically, behaviorally, or emotionally The biggest misconceptions about ADHD, autism, and learning difference How to tell the difference between typical development and something that needs evaluation What a psychoeducational evaluation actually is and what it can reveal The difference between school testing and private testing What testing day feels like for a child and how to support anxious or sensitive kid How results translate into real support, including IEPs, 504 plans, and school accommodations What to say to parents who worry about labeling their child First steps to take if you think your child may need testing Dr. Hinman reminds us that struggling in school doesn't mean a child isn't smart- it means we haven't figured out what's getting in the way. A good evaluation doesn't label a child; it explains their experience. Testing isn't about a diagnosis. It's about a roadmap. If you've ever felt that quiet nudge that something feels off, this episode is for you. To make an appointment with Bloom Testing, click here. About Dr. Himan Originally from upstate New York, Dr. Hinman graduated Phi Beta Kappa from the State University of New York at Geneseo and earned her Ph.D. in Counseling Psychology from Columbia University. As both a clinician and a mom herself, she brings warmth, clarity, and practicality to the families she serves. Dr. Hinman now carries forward the legacy of Bloom Testing's founder, the late Dr. Dawn Bloom, whose compassionate, evidence-based approach made a significant impact in the community. Today, she honors that foundation while expanding the practice's services-including a growing focus on learning differences, ADHD assessments, psychoeducational testing, and comprehensive autism evaluations. Innovations in drone technology have expanded their usefulness and made drones increasingly present in everyday life. Despite this progress, key limitations such as short battery life and limited payload capacity have hindered their full potential in critical infrastructure. That reality is beginning to shift. Recent breakthroughs in long-endurance flight are pushing drones beyond these limits and into entirely new possibilities. As these advances reshape what drones can do, we must ask: What new possibilities do these breakthroughs unlock? And what might these possibilities mean for our everyday lives? In this episode, Shane is joined by Brian Hinman, the founder and CEO of SiFly, and John Donovan, the CEO of Qudit Investments and a board member at Palo Alto Networks and Lockheed Martin. As leaders of these innovations in drone technology, they draw on their extensive experience in aviation, defense, and technology to help us explore how this next phase of drone development could change the way we think about infrastructure, emergency response, and the future of aviation itself.

John 1:19-34 NIVBig Idea: It's not about you, it's about Jesus. Use your life to point to Him.Backround: John the Baptist was a rock star! A prophet living in the Jordan River Valley who had a big following. People from all over would come to listen to his message of repentance and baptism. John had his own disciples, who would later become Jesus's disciples. Also, John the Baptist was a relative of Jesus.1. John knew who he wasn'tWith everyone trying to figure out who they are, John starts with who he is not. “Now this was John's testimony when the Jewish leaders in Jerusalem sent priests and Levites to ask him who he was. He did not fail to confess, but confessed freely, “I am not the messiah”.How many times have we put ourselves in position to get credit instead of “Beholding the Lamb”?2. John knew who Jesus was-The Lamb of God-The sin-bearer-Greater than John-Pre-Existent-The Chosen One 3. John knew what Jesus Does“Look, the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world” John 1:29 John demonstrated how we “Behold the Lamb”- Know who you are not- Know who Jesus is- Know what Jesus has done

Intervention: The Act of stepping into a situation to change its course, especially to prevent harm or improve an outcome.Galatians 4:4-7There are two important things when it comes to an intervention: Timing and PurposeGalatians 4:4-7 reminds us that's what Christmas is all about.1. God Intervenes at the right time (v. 4) (Timing)“But when the set time had fully come, God sent His Son, born of a women, born under the law”The phrase “set time” used here is the Greek word Pleroma. There is only one other place in the New Testament that the word “Pleroma” is used. Ephesians 1:10. Ephesians is referring to the second coming. John 1:1 “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God”John 1:14 “The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us…” 2. God Intervenes to Set Us Free (v. 5-7) (Purpose)“To redeem those under the law, that we might receive adoption to sonship. Because you are his sons, God sent the Spirit of His Son into our hearts, the Spirit who calls out, ‘Abba, Father'. So, you are no longer a slave, but God's child; and since you are his child, God has made you also an heir.”

Romans 1:16Colossians 2:13–151. The Gospel has the power to bring life to the dead.“When you were dead in your sins… God made you alive with Christ”.- Paul begins with our condition. We are separated from God and spiritually dead. Sin is not just a bad thing we do, not just an obstacle between God and us, no it is spiritual death. Because of that we don't just need resuscitation we need resurrection! 2. The Gospel has the power to forgive all our sins“He forgave us all our sins, having canceled the charge of our legal indebtedness”Our DebtEvery sin is a spiritual debt — a legal record that stood against us.The “charge” (Greek: cheirographon) refers to a written IOU, a debt we could never repay.b. God's GraceJesus “canceled” our debt — the term means “to wipe out completely.”How? “He has taken it away, nailing it to the cross.”Every accusation, every shameful act, every failure was placed on Him.3. The Gospel has the power to triumph over evil“And having disarmed the powers and authorities, he made a public spectacle of them, triumphing over them by the cross”.a. The Defeat of Darkness“Powers and authorities” refers to demonic forces, spiritual rulers, and systems opposed to God.At the cross, it looked like Jesus was defeated — but in truth, the enemy was disarmed.b. The Victory of the CrossIn Roman times, a victorious general paraded his conquered enemies in public.Paul says Jesus did that spiritually — He turned the cross, an instrument of shame, into a throne of victory.

What's myth and what's fact in the story of Charles Manson? What were the true motives behind the murders and who was really involved? There are many books covering this topic, yet very few have broken through the 'official' tale told by the trial's prosecutors and the news media at the time. This book includes hundreds of hours of research into court and police documents, witness statements, media reports and interviews with those involved. This book examines the current theories surrounding the case and appraises their likelihood against a timeline of events and the words of Manson himself. The prosecution case promoted by Vincent, Bugliosi, the Process Church influence as endorsed by Ed Sanders and David McGowan, the robbery scenario as spoken of by Nikolas Shreck and William Scanlon Murphy and the possibility of MK Ultra mind control as discussed by Adam Gorightly are all examined and tested. How do Terry Melcher, Elvis Presley, the Beach Boys, Jane Fonda, the Mamas and the Papas, Michael Caine, Dean Martin, Angela Lansbury, Peter Sellers, Warren Beatty, Yul Brynner, Peter Falk, Cary Grant, Steve McQueen, Neil Young, Frank Zappa, Nancy Sinatra, Ronald Reagan and Debbie Harry fit into the tale? What Hollywood secrets did the industry, the police and the prosecution strive to keep hidden? Were the victims really chosen at random by a crazed cult of serial killers, high on a mix of LSD, Satanism and the music of the Beatles? Read on to uncover the secrets of the Manson family, their trial, the main players in the case and the murky world of Hollywood. The book contains 564 pages, 200,000+ words containing a complete history of the life of Charles Manson.A detailed examination of the Hinman, Shea, Tate and LaBianca murders, appraisal of all the most prominent theories surrounding the case, explanations of the coded confessions revealed in interviews with Manson.Stories of celebrity encounters, facts about Manson's relationship with the music industry, details of organised crime connections, faults with the prosecution's case, troubling indications about the motives and character of Vincent Bugliosi, examinations of further murders and other criminal activity possibly connected to Manson.Revelations about the main players involved in the case, embarrassing secrets of the Hollywood elite, suggestions of police ineptitude, signs of a cover-up, bizarre coincidences, strange occurrences, salacious gossip, radical political movements, riots, the Black Panthers, The Beatles, The Beach Boys, cults, religion, sex, drugs and murder. This book has been read, enjoyed, praised and promoted by friends of Charlies and members of ATWA. https://amzn.to/4naItmKBecome a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/the-opperman-report--1198501/support.

In this insightful episode Will talks with Dr. Jack Hinman, co-founder and executive director of Engage Transitions, shares his personal path from a chaotic childhood in Memphis to launching a young adult transition program in the red rock and pine-covered terrain of Cedar City, Utah. Engage Transitions supports young adults facing anxiety, depression, executive functioning struggles, and social isolation—many of whom are also neurodivergent. Jack opens up about his own healing journey through friendship, therapy, and the outdoors, and offers a powerful reminder to parents: anxiety is not something to eliminate but a necessary part of growth. He challenges the cultural instinct to remove discomfort, noting how overprotection from the physical world—and underprotection from the online one—may be delaying critical development in young adults. Jack passionately explores how time outside—on a mountain bike trail, in the snow, or simply hiking—can unlock self-confidence, connection, and emotional regulation. He believes that unstructured outdoor play builds resilience and identity, especially for young men struggling with motivation or vulnerability. Movement-based activities create opportunities for co-regulation, mirror therapy modalities like EMDR, and offer a space where conversations can flow more naturally than in a clinical office. Jack emphasizes that mastery of the outdoor environment, whether navigating rocky terrain or managing ski gear in cold weather, helps young people begin to feel mastery over themselves. In a world where many young adults are lost in digital disconnection, nature can be the place they finally begin to grow. In this episode of Healthy Mind, Healthy Life, Avik sits down with Dr. Jack Hinman, licensed clinical psychologist and founder of Engage Young Adult Transitions. They explore why today's youth are facing rising levels of anxiety, disconnection, and stalled independence. Dr. Jack shares how the pandemic exposed—not created—this crisis, emphasizing the breakdown in real-world connections, lack of resiliency, and the cultural shift toward canceling rather than engaging in growth-building relationships. The conversation dives into Dr. Jack's unique model of therapeutic support that goes beyond traditional therapy, helping young adults build sustainable habits, systems, and emotional resilience while fostering independence. ABOUT THE GUEST:Dr. Jack Hinman is a licensed clinical psychologist with over 20 years of experience working with young adults in diverse therapeutic settings, from inpatient hospitals to outdoor therapy programs. As founder of Engage Young Adult Transitions, Dr. Jack helps young people build real-life skills, navigate anxiety, and foster identity formation through a combination of therapeutic guidance, community connection, and practical support systems. KEY TAKEAWAYS: Today's youth struggle with anxiety rooted in disconnection, not just mental health issues. Social avoidance during and after the pandemic has magnified anxiety and stalled identity development. Effective support requires consistent, relationship-based influence rather than control. Building systems and habits (not rigid goals) fosters long-term independence. Parents also need to develop resiliency to support their struggling children without over-controlling. Engage's integrated model blends therapy, coaching, academic support, and daily living skills to empower young adults. CONNECT WITH DR. 1. Be devoted to PrayerHe will ask the Church to pray specifically for opening doors in order that he may be able to preach the gospel even though he is in chains (v.3). But first, he asks the Church to be watchful and thankful while praying. When I think of Paul's request to be watchful, I think of a lifeguard canning the ocean making sure that nothing is wrong or under attack. Thankfulness stems from us experiencing His grace. 2. Engage outsiders.Paul encourages the Church to engage outsiders but gives us some ways to do so. Be wise (v.5), Let our conversations be full of Grace and seasoned with salt(v.6) In other words, full of love and compassion (grace) but not to compromise the truth (salt). In that time the people would have understood two things about salt. Salt was used to preserve and to put in wounds to fight off infection. In the same way our conversations with outsiders should be focused on God's unconditional love, fueled by our passion for Jesus and others, but making sure we are not compromising or watering down the message of the Gospel. Jesus demonstrated this with his conversation with the women caught in adultery. Jesus asked her, “Who has condemned you, I don't condemn you” this is grace. He then says, “Go and sin no more” this is the salt. 3. Make DisciplesOur job is to make new disciples and teach them to become like Jesus. Paul points out that we should all be ready to answer everyone (v.6)I believe that takes learning the scripture and living out the scripture. James tells us to not just be hearers but doers of the Word.

Hinman was tortured over three days before he was killed. Beausoleil admitted to stabbing Hinman twice in the chest. The Manson family reportedly used Hinman's blood to scribble the words “Political Piggy” on the wall after the murder, and also included a panther paw to try and pin the slaying on the Black Panthers. Beausoleil was sentenced to death for his role in Hinman's murder, but the sentence was later commuted to life in prison.Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/theserialkillerpodcastWebsite: https://www.theserialkillerpodcast.comFacebook: https://www.facebook.com/theskpodcastInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/serialkillerpodX: https://twitter.com/serialkillerpodSupport this show http://supporter.acast.com/the-serial-killer-podcast.
