Jennifer Alwood shares her journey of starting a painting company, transitioning to coaching, and merging faith and business. She encourages women to overcome the fear of certification and be open to coaching others based on their life experiences. Jennifer emphasizes the importance of obedience and authenticity in business and shares personal stories of letting go and moving forward. She encourages women to dig deep, seek guidance, and settle any unresolved issues before stepping into a new season. In this conversation, Jennifer Allwood discusses her journey of laying down the need for a relationship with her biological father and the impact it has had on her business and personal life. She also shares her insights on the role of women in business and the timing for women to pursue their entrepreneurial dreams. The conversation highlights the importance of obedience, breaking generational curses, and being a yes girl for God. Takeaways The relationship with earthly fathers can have an impact on women's businesses and personal lives. Laying down the need for a relationship with a biological father is a process that requires obedience and surrender. Being a yes girl for God means being willing to go first and pay the cost of obedience. There is a window of opportunity for women in business, and now is the time to pursue entrepreneurial dreams. Choosing to be an entrepreneur while navigating the complexities of motherhood requires an honest conversation. Let's not sugarcoat it – it can be challenging, and the guilt accompanying it can be overwhelming. Kristen welcomes Jennifer Allwood for an open and candid conversation exploring the challenges entrepreneurial women and moms face, emphasizing the importance of not letting guilt become a hindrance. In the pursuit of business, mothers might find themselves wrestling with guilt, but the resounding message is clear: Fear is not the boss of you. Let's look at a few highlights: Kristen and Jennifer touched upon a common struggle among women – the reluctance to give themselves permission to go all the way. It's a battle that's less about permission and more about confronting the fear that often lurks at the surface. Many women may inadvertently use their roles as mothers as excuses, feeling guilty about pursuing their entrepreneurial aspirations. The key takeaway is clear: It's impossible to do it all at once, and that's perfectly okay. Before being someone's mom, you were someone. Jennifer encouraged mothers to rediscover and embrace the identity that existed before the journey of motherhood began. The concept of "Entrepreneur Math" comes into play – the strategic art of delegation and prioritization. It's time to question why certain aspects are undervalued and consciously prioritize what truly matters. A common obstacle women face in their entrepreneurial journey is the fear of success. This fear can manifest as self-sabotage and excuses, hindering us from reaching our full potential. Motherhood and business don't have to compete – they can coexist, and by embracing both aspects with intentionality, we can create a life that aligns with our values and aspirations. The entrepreneurship journey intertwined with money, marriage, and motherhood is a multifaceted adventure. It's about breaking the chains of fear, guilt, and self-sabotage. It's about giving ourselves permission to be amazing at both, understanding that something will always have to give, and that's perfectly okay. There are a lot of titles in the industry, and we understand that it can feel overwhelming to know which title and role you need to fill for your business. In today's episode, Emily Reagan explains how she landed on 'Marketing Assistant' as her title as she initially struggled to define how she assisted Visionaries. We compare the difference between Marketing Rainmakers and Unicorn Assistants and explore the point in your business where you would consider bringing on a Rainmaker to support the Assistant and relieve them of the duties that the Rainmaker should be fulfilling.Emily shares a typical day for a digital marketing assistant on behalf of an organization. I clarify what a Rainmaker does to help you understand the differences between these two team members. Then, we outline a Frankenstein role and how to avoid creating a role like this in your business by setting your team members up for success and getting the most out of them.If you need help determining what level of support you need in your business, listen to this interview as we help you identify which team member you need so that you can understand who you might need to hire to help support your marketing growth.Learn more about my guest:Emily Reagan is a jill-of-all-trades when it comes to digital marketing and techie skills. We spend a lot of time marketing and converting prospects, and this is my world, but it pains me to see these marketing strategies focus on the front side, but lack on the back side, and our customers aren't getting the same energy. So today, Shana, the community strategist behind many of the 7 & 8-figure brands, joins us to explore the power of communities inside your business. We discuss the evolution of communities, from growing a baby community to when you require support, the mistakes that happen when growing communities, and why you shouldn't just cherry-pick a community manager from your community. Shana explores where to look for quality community managers, from inside your communities to hiring externally. We also discuss the three reasons community managers play an important role in your business. In this episode, I opened up about being scared of a community that would get too big for me to handle and the potential of them turning on me. If you feel this too, Shana shares what to do if a community gets to that level.Learn more about my guest:Shana is the community strategist behind many of the 7 & 8 figure brands you love. Oh my goodness, it's EPISODE 300!!! I can't believe we have made it to 300 episodes! Normally, each week I sit down with an incredible entrepreneur, business owner, community leader, activist, author or speaker, and I find out their story and how they are using their gifts to change the world. But today is a big deal. I started this podcast in summer 2016, nearly six years ago. I never believed I would have made it this far. In honor of episode 300, I am answering listener questions, my husband joins as a special guest, we go over the top 10 most popular episodes and we honor a previous guest who has passed away. 5:42 – Question about ethical fashion Natasha asks: “When I was first learning about ethical fashion and what it means at the ripe age of 29 … I was telling my stepmom of its importance and how most garment workers aren't paid a living wage from fast fashion companies. I mentioned I was going to stop shopping at those companies, and she said to me, ‘But don't those people needs jobs, too?' I was a bit flabbergasted and to this day don't have a one sentence response. How would you answer that?” 9:52 – Two unaired episodes Mary asks: “Have you ever not aired a conversation?” Yes, there are two episodes that have never aired, and I explain why in the podcast. 13:16 – Coolest experience Carly asks: “What's one of the coolest things you've been able to do because of this podcast?” 14:55 – Favorite Australian food Sarah Ann asks: “What is your favorite Australian food?” Shout out to Sarah Ann, because she is one of the most encouraging listeners and even sent me a care package. 16:46 – Message from Sarah Ann “Thank you, Molly, for letting us into your family life and being the big sister that I never had.” 17:19 – Thank you, MamaSuds MamaSuds has been a wonderful partner to work with. If you've listened to this show, you know how much I love MamaSuds. 19:01 – Welcome, John! My husband John joins us for this part of the podcast, and he is my most requested guest. 23:25 – What does John love most about my job? Christy asks John: “What do you love most about Molly's job or what she does for a living?” John shares a funny story about jury duty and how he panicked when asked about my job. 26:10 – Favorite part of homesteading Cheryl Dunn asks: “What is your favorite part of homesteading?” Survival is not the answer, but there is a lot that we love. 27:51 – How to get finances in order Maria J. asks: “I know your husband is a financial advisor … I feel really overwhelmed with where to start with getting my overall finances in order. Where do I begin? Financial Peace? Total Money Makeover? Or should I just look somewhere else? 29:54 – John's favorite interviews Kelly R. asks John: “Do you have an interview that Molly has done that sticks out to you as one of your personal favorites?” 31:31 – Best marriage advice Bethany M. asks: “What is the best piece of marriage advice that someone has given you? Fear is a liar.Fear will tell you that: You're not good enough You don't have enough expertise You're not succeeding And so much more… But, I want to tell you…That. Is. A. Lie!Fear will keep us stuck, playing small, and feeling safe. You were created for so much more. You have been given a God-sized mission and vision that you were created to share with the world!I remember a time early on in my business where I allowed fear to grip me so tightly. I got so wrapped up in people-pleasing and working long hours because that's what I thought I had to do, that my physical health began to fail in the way of adrenal failure. Something had to give, because fear was winning. Once I let go of that fear, everything began to change. This doesn't mean everything will be smooth sailing and rainbows, but when fear doesn't rule our hearts and our mind, we can better handle whatever scenario is thrown our way. In this episode of the Epic Success Podcast, I'm talking with my dear friend, Jennifer Allwood. She is absolutely crushing her business, and her book, “Fear is Not the Boss of You,” is literally changing lives. I am in awe of her entire journey and I know you will be just as encouraged by what she has to share. This interview is a part of a series called Take Your Seat at the Table, where I'm interviewing the Queens from our Queens Table Mastermind, all multi- 7 & 8-figure female business owners. They are going to share their journey with you. The good, the bad, the pivots, the tears, and the victories so you can see that YOU deserve a seat at the table. When I was growing my business, I just wanted to be able to have conversations like this one to figure out how I could think differently. So…this is for you! Pull up a chair - you deserve the success you see behind your eyes! The biggest take-aways from today's episode are: It's still work. Working online, from home is still work. We have to learn ways to optimize our business so that we are working smarter, not harder. We have so many things battling for our attention. However, if we say something is our priority, then we should work to make it our priority. We miss goals. There are some goals that we hit and others that we don't. Either way, it provides us with data and data doesn't lie. It provides us with information, so there is no emotion with it. It gives us an opportunity to go back and reevaluate to find a way to make it work. Don't be afraid to shift and pivot. A gazelle is one of the quickest land animals, but they don't run in a straight line. They are constantly shifting and pivoting and can ultimately outlast their enemies. Don't be afraid to reevaluate what's not working and shift and pivot to what does work. There is not just one way to reach success. Things won't always go as planned in business. Life is full of ups and downs. Two lasting lessons that Jennifer shared with us is to 1. Go with your gut and 2. Address things as they happen. You are the steward of what God has given you and you will know best how to handle situations as they appear. Fear is not the boss of you! You got this! "Adapting to change” gets a lot of attention. Even though we have some tools to intentionally deal with changes, that is a reactive approach. In Episode 47 of Just One Simple Thing, we'll learn a more proactive approach, where we anticipate things that could go wrong and develop a plan to deal with the ones most likely to derail us. Because I believe that all those things we fear are just risks to be managed.Raise your hand if you've laid awake at night with the “what if” tape looping through your head. What if I launch and no one buys? What if I take a step and don't do it right? What if I send a proposal and get told no? The What if loop is endless. We often let the “what ifs” paralyze us with fear and uncertainty. We let those fears keep us from doing what God called us to do. The fears take up more room than they deserve until we completely give up. But what if we had a better way to deal with those “what ifs”.Let's look at someone in the Bible who created a risk management plan that derailed a fearful response.Nehemiah had a big assignment from God, leading the Israelites as they rebuilt the crumbling wall around Jerusalem. It was a risky endeavor. (You can read all about this in Nehemiah chapter 4). Not only did Nehemiah address the specific threat facing them but he addressed the consequences that the people most feared. Let's dive into the details of how to create a risk management plan that silences the fearful “what ifs”.1. Clarify the RisksWhat could happen? Why might it happen? What would be the impact? 2. Rank the RisksFirst look at the Likelihood - How likely is the event or the cause to happen? Give it a score of 1 if it is unlikely to happen, 2 if it may happen, 3 if it is highly likely to happen. Next, evaluate the Level of Impact-How damaging would the consequence be if the event happened? Give it a score of 1 if it would be minimal impact, 2 for some impact and 3 for major impact. Finally, calculate the Significance Score - Add the Likelihood and Impact scores for each risk on your list. Highlight the ones with a score of 4 or more. These are your Significant Risks that you need to focus on. 3. Create Mitigation PlansFor each Significant Risk, create a plan that reduces the likelihood that the cause or event will happen or reduces the impact if it does happen. Just clarifying the “what ifs” and ranking them will help you see that some of them are not as scary as you think. And you can kick fear to the curb when you've create a plan to overcome the scary ones. ACTION STEP:Think of the three biggest what if's that keep you up at night, rank their likelihood and potential impact, then create a mitigation plan for the significant risks. If you head over to my free Facebook group, Plan & Pray with Do A New Thing, you'll find a worksheet and some examples to help you do that. We're all familiar with CEOs and CFOs, but we're well overdue for a Chief Officer in the HR department. That's why Amanda Young is here as Chief Human Resources Officer at Bankers Trust — to talk about what that role means and how the expectations have changed over the past two decades. Amanda started her career in HR, working through internships and learning from mentors along the way. She found herself as an HR manager at 27, and today she is one of Fortune's 40 under 40 as the CHRO at Bankers Trust. She manages a team of 525 employees and, although banks are known for being stuffy and structured, Amanda brings new life to the industry by focusing on creating the meaningful work experiences employees want. Just over the past two years, the talent landscape has changed. People are leaving behind traditional roles for a variety of experiences that bring new depth to their careers. It's less about climbing the corporate ladder and more about enriching the work experience. For Amanda, it's about creating the flexibility for her team to do just that. Like many businesses, Bankers Trust transitioned to a more flexible workplace over the pandemic. But more than going online, the bank relaxed the dress code and maintained its focus on leadership and managerial training. Amanda is still facing a few obstacles in the coming year, but learning to respond to changes instead of just reacting to them isn't one. Her intentional responses and the deliberate and collaborative programs she's implemented for her team continue to provide them with the meaningful experiences they need. Of course, not every program can be a success story. Amanda shares her pitfalls and what happens when the programs you plan don't have any follow-through. It really takes a team to manage a company, and she takes care to enrich and empower her team just as much as she empowers herself. Tune in now to hear more about the role of a Chief Human Resources Officer and the resources Amanda uses for herself. If you're like me, you might feel helpless right now. Discouraged and probably overwhelmed. I am with you. I can't change what we are all going through together, but I wanted to do something. So I decided to put together a quick, scrappy and imperfect series to help shine some hope in the chaos we are in. I threw it together, texted a few friends to see if they would want to join me and put it on the calendar. I'm calling it Hope in the Chaos. Today I'm joined by my friend, Jennifer Allwood. We are going to walk with you and talk with you and process this with you. We're going to pray and talk about what anchors us during this storm. Would you join me for this? There's no ask. No sale. No agenda. I just want to be present for you as we figure out how to get through this together in the coming days. I care about you friend, and I'm here for you. ??
