In this podcast, Anna is with Cathy Young. Cathy found natural health and healing from a young age after suffering from severe eczema. When she fell pregnant, she had an overwhelming sense to follow her instinct and to birth both her children at home.   Three years ago, Cathy decided to follow her passion and study to become a Naturopath. Cathy has been training as a Naturopathic Nutritional Therapist, with a focus on gut health and family health, and will qualify in 2023. Cathy and her husband Andrew ( a qualified Health + Self Sabotage Coach) raise their boys as holistically as possible and together have opened an online holistic health center/space where they support individuals and families to regain their vibrancy and optimal health.    Cathy also runs a transformational 6 weeks Gut Cleanse + Reset program. She believes that when our gut health is in balance, the rest of our health follows. The next intake is in September 2022.   They also talked about:   03:32   Cathy's background story in her healing journey 08:54   Cathy as a Naturopathic Nutritional Therapist 11:31   How Cathy and her family help other people 15:50   Best way to get in touch with Cathy 16:44   Don't take your health for granted 17:22   Stress has a huge impact on our health  22:14   Popping a pill isn't going to get to the root cause of your imbalance 25:51   What does freedom mean to Cathy Cathy also taught us that we need to focus on getting optimal health so we can do what we want when we want to do it.  Quotes:   “I want to always keep optimal health accessible for everyone. ”   “I've learned so, so much my own health journey, especially with my gut health the last couple of years as well, that I really want to keep it accessible for people, because I think we all deserve optimal health.”   “Because we're a family, and we want to help other families, you know, being, you know, from babies to, you know, even, you know, pregnancy and writing a preconception Care Program at the moment as well, that's going to be ready. And, you know, to help us get in our, you know, our best optimal health ready to conceive because digressing a little bit here. Now, when we fall pregnant, whatever toxicity is in us, and this comes from the male partner, as well, whatever toxicity comes from the male partner, and the men actually goes through to the fetus, the growing baby. ”   “The reason why I've decided to stop teaching and to go forward with health is because, you know, I want to be the teacher can you know, obviously, we're still pretty lucky for the school holidays and of course, but when you're in term time, life is so restrictive”   “You know, obviously, every part of your journey is meant to be etcetera, you know, for the spiritual sort of aspect, but this is 100%, my soul's purpose, this is the reason that I put on the planet to help people you know, live with optimal health and you know, get over imbalances and ailments, etc.”   “You know, life happens, doesn't it? And I'm not the type of practitioner that aims for perfection, perfection doesn't exist. And I think it's the it's the balance of latency or how we prioritize our health.”   “Healing naturally doesn't happen overnight as much as we would like that but we sort of make tweaks along the way and those little tweaks then end up being big massive changes when you do them consistently resulted in amazing health”   “So two things for me coming out of teaching I'm looking forward to having more freedom in my life and sort of use my time as I wish and you know, to study and to you know, to help people with their health so that's time freedom for me and I'm not going to be so restrictive in my term time. It's gonna take me years to get out of that time and holiday time. And then so the big one for me then is freedom and health because when we've got our optimal health we can choose to live our way as we choose because you know, if anybody's listening and have had ill health or imbalances with their health, it can be debilitating.”   “I think for me, it is freedom is having optimal health and being able to do what you want when you want.” Cathy Young Check out Cathy Young's social media accounts   Emai: hello@rootshealthandwellness.co.uk  Website: www.rootshealthandwellness.co.uk  Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/naturopathycathy   Do you want to be a speaker/guest on my podcast? Entrepreneurs are pulled in so many directions, but taking care of ourselves should be our number one priority. Because when we're not feeling good, we can't be there for our business or our family.   If you're a woman of a certain age, you might not be feeling yourself. Hormones, lack of sleep, and even being off on nutrition and exercise can contribute to feeling unwell. Together, these can compound into multiple health issues.   I've been feeling it and I've been hearing from friends and clients who are feeling it too. So I wanted to chat with Wendy Hill, this week's podcast guest, to find out how we can start taking back our wellness…a few little changes at a time.   Listen in to learn what changes you can make to get the most health benefits, why being kind to yourself is key, and why planning and sustainability should be part of your health routine.   About Wendy Hill: Wendy is the owner of HillStart Nutrition Health and Wellness. Today's episode of the podcast is an interview with Wendy Hill. Wendy is the owner of HillStart Nutrition Health and Wellness. As a Naturopathic Nutritional Therapist and an expert in female hormone health, Wendy supports women through perimenopause, menopause and beyond through her Fabulous & Female membership, group programs and 1:1 work. We talk all about how as a business owner you need to look after yourself and your body, with simple and easy ways to do this.   KEY TAKEAWAYS COVERED IN THE PODCAST  You are your business – if you go down, your business goes down. So you need to make sure you look after yourself! Our default is to just work because we love what we do – but we have to find a balance. It's about doing the best you can for yourself. You don't have to cut out alcohol and sweet treats to be healthy – we have to live too. There is so much information out there – it can be confusing! We try to power through all the time and rely on caffeine and sugar to get us through – we don't have time to stop. We still have to enjoy our food – it's not about cutting everything out. Your lifestyle and food are the two things you should really be focusing on, then supplements if needed. Multi-vitamins are OK but may not do you much good if they are low level. Don't buy your food from where you fill up your car with fuel and don't buy your supplements from where you buy your food. Vitamin D is good to take in the Winter. 3 easy and actionable changes you can make to look after yourself and body: Drink more water Eating three meals a day Move more THE ONE THING YOU NEED TO REMEMBER ABOVE ALL ELSE…  You need to look after yourself and make sure you are fuelling your body so you can do the best work you can.   HIGHLIGHTS YOU SIMPLY CAN'T MISS  Wendy's journey so far and she has got to where she is today The balance between working hard on our businesses but also looking after ourselves Vitamins and supplements Simple and easy tips to look after yourself and your body   CHECK WENDY OUT:  https://hillstart.me.uk/ (Website) https://www.instagram.com/hillstartnutrition/ (Instagram) https://www.facebook.com/hillstartnutrition (Facebook) https://hillstartnutrition.mykajabi.com/fabfemale (Fabulous & Female Membership) https://hillstartnutrition.mykajabi.com/MOT (5 Day Female Health MOT – FREE to join)   TRANSCRIPT  Hello and welcome to this episode of the podcast. How are things?   Things with me are somewhat busy at the moment. I was trying to explain to my husband the other day that some of the things we've got going on at the moment, some of the projects, are like the equivalent of getting married, getting divorced, starting a job, leaving a job, moving house. For some unknown reason, I chose the same time to re record or record a section of the pathway that isn't done, moved from one email system to another, launch my book, rebrands, create a new website, do a brand new quiz, which is coming out very soon, hopefully. What else is on my list? Do a launch strategy, review some processes. Seriously. I don't know what I was thinking. I do not know what I was thinking. So what's happening with the podcast at the moment is I'm pretty much doing it on the fly, which I hate doing.   And I hate doing it for a few reasons. One like. I don't like the fact that we're not more ahead and more organized, and two for the team, because obviously they've got their stuff to do. And I, and I'm doing it kind of fairly last minute. But the reason I'm doing it very last minute is because, because I've got so many new things coming up and it's literally like, it could happen tomorrow.   It could happen next week. I'm not entirely sure that I don't want to record episodes of the podcast. They'll do my content so far ahead that I missed telling you these things. So. If they're a bit rough and ready for the next couple of weeks, please bear with...

Has your acne improved with hormone support? Tell me about it in the comments! In this episode: General connection between hormones and acne Vivien's take on dairy How is cortisol involved in acne? What are androgens? In women, how do high testosterone levels contribute to acne? How is the thyroid related to acne? Vivien's tip for relieving stress Quotes “When people think hormones, they think estrogen, progesterone and testosterone, and they really do influence the skin, but there are other hormones like cortisol and insulin that can also be involved.” [1:28] “I usually see high cortisol being the most problematic because when your body is pumping out cortisol from the adrenal glands, it's also coming out things like adrenaline and some of these androgens as well, like DHEAS and these things can increase sebum production in the skin.” [11:37] Links Find Vivien online here Healthy Skin Show ep. 034: Diet Solutions For Adult Acne w/ Brie Wieselman Healthy Skin Show ep. 067: Best Stress Relief Tips For Skin Rashes (contains some different breathing exercises you could try) Healthy Skin Show ep. 183: Adult Acne: Gut, Topical Products + Nutrient Issues w/ Vivien Allred, NTP, CNHC, BANT The Upside of Stress: Why Stress Is Good for You, and How to Get Good at It by Dr. Kelly McGonigal

Our bodies have a deep rooted connection with our minds. For a lot of us, this concept isn’t an easy one to grasp and it can be difficult to assume that our mental stressors play a factor in chronic pain or physical ailments. Today, I sat down with my good friend and Naturopatic Nutritional Therapist, Keris Marsden. For those of you who have been lucky enough to listen to Keris in person or follow some of her work, this recording is a little different. Instead of educating us around our hormonal health and wellbeing, Keris has spent the last year on her own healing journey. In this episode we chat all things alternative medicine, life during lockdown and what role mental health plays in your overall physical health. As two women in the health and fitness industry, learning how to effectively practice self care and adopt a mindset that benefits our own mental state has been a difficult path. I’m a self proclaimed “recovering perfectionist” and know how hard it can be to break out of those negative thought patterns which carry into our everyday lives. It’s all too common to focus on the lows, as a previous guest, Emma Hackett explained - nearly 80% of our thoughts are negative and habitual. But reflecting on those thoughts and behaviours doesn’t have to be a daunting exercise if we use that information correctly. A lot of the time when something is awry in our bodies, it’s a signal that something needs help in our minds, and learning how to tune into that information is vital. If you’re curious to learn more about these topics, grab a cuppa and join us on episode 22 of Fitness UnFiltered! Some Questions I Ask:What has your personal health journey been like? (3:22)What made you decide to look deeper into the issues going on in your body? (8:37) What did your success with Chinese medicine look like? Jules Chandler joins us today to discuss her journey with Graves' disease and her approach to health after undergoing total thyroidectomy. Chandler's interest in thyroid conditions began after she noticed symptoms of her own overactive thyroid. In this episode, Jules shares her experience of conventional medical treatments, including the roller coaster of fluctuating hormones, a side effect of her treatment. Despite being told by doctors after years of treatment that her condition was cured, Chandler did not feel that her symptoms had fully resolved; as a result, she began experimenting with adjustments to her diet and was able to identify gluten as a trigger for inflammation in her body.    By making changes to her diet - which expanded to changes to her lifestyle - Chandler was able to find relief for her symptoms in ways that previous treatments were unable to provide. This inspired her to pursue a degree in naturopathic nutrition, and today she helps her clients manage many of their symptoms through diet and lifestyle changes.   Tune in to hear Jules Chandler's inspiring story, as well as a list of resources that Chandler believes, may be helpful for those looking to take control of their own thyroid health.
