Episode 73: Keyon Harrold. Everywhere I turn, I see Keyon Harrold. He's widely regarded as one of the greatest trumpeters alive today, pushing the new jazz generation forward with power and soul. His solo album Foreverland was GRAMMY-nominated this year for Best Alternative Jazz Album, and his resume is stacked — Jay-Z, Common, Erykah Badu, Diana Ross, Mac Miller, Robert Glasper, the Count Basie Orchestra, Terrace Martin — and he played all the trumpet parts in the Miles Davis biopic Miles Ahead. Keyon is a dear friend and an incredible human being. He drops so much wisdom in this episode and truly inspired me with his words. I hope you enjoy my conversation with the great Keyon Harrold. ‘Go with Elmo Lovano' is a weekly podcast where Elmo interviews creatives and entrepreneurs in music on HOW they push forward every day, got where they are in their careers, manage their personal lives, and share lessons learned and their most important insights. Your hosts this episode: Patrique OptimalAudio Once again the podcast takes a look back at some of the releases from the first half of the year and discuss their biggest surprises, disappointments, favorites. Ranging from discussions on waning off Killer Mike, the continuing high quality output of Billy Woods, and the expanding underground Plugg scene and it's various subgenres, the podcast digs in deep and pulls out all the gems (and coal) they've had the time to mine throughout the year. In a bonus intro segment as well, the podcast looks at the 10th Anniversary of controversial figure Kanye West's equally divisive (at the time of its release) Yeezus and how it stacks up now in the wake of Kanye's antics, politics, and the changed music landscape since.
