What Stacy DOESN'T love is eye doctors that suggest blepharoplasty and dress shopping. Eric had been “dating” himself by going alone to concerts, including seeing The Wedding Present and Art Brut. When it comes to how they spend their free time, Stacy and Eric are an odd couple which also happens to be Stacy's Cultural Blindspot this week – The Odd Couple movie based on a Neil Simon play. While Stacy yucked it up, Eric found the Treasure of The Sierra Madre which is another movie on the AFI's list of 100 American films to see. Both movies were recommended to watch even if the score of the latter movie was meh. Eric also recommends DTF Saint Lewis which is not what you might expect. As for the weekly debate, there's no debate, however base it may seem, women prefer tall men. You could argue all others get the short stick!

In this powerful and joy-filled episode, we celebrate a significant milestone for respite care in Tennessee—new legislation that allows The Veranda to expand its reach, welcoming five additional clients into the day program and increasing care availability to 12 hours per week. This long-awaited breakthrough represents more than policy change—it's answered prayer, faithful perseverance, and a tangible step forward for caregivers and families who so deeply need support. We also share the moving story of Julia, a devoted benefactor whose belief in Mary Anne Oglesby-Sutherly and her unwavering commitment to "honoring the project" helped carry the vision through seasons of uncertainty. Her generosity and faith remind us that behind every victory are people who quietly say "yes" to God's prompting—and mean it. Plus, a heartfelt glimpse into a recent Dementia-Friendly Good Friday service, where sacred moments met real-life ministry. Mary Anne recounts the honor of singing "The Goodness of God" alongside her dear friend Louise, who lives with Frontal Temporal Dementia—a moment filled with tenderness, memory, and the unmistakable presence of God. www.verandaministries.org

We sadly said goodbye to our beloved Lovie this month, a gentle soul who loved Jesus and cherished the Veranda. Today, we come together to celebrate and honor the beautiful person Lovie was to each of us. Veranda Ministries is currently navigating the complex process of obtaining legislation and permissions to serve more families in need. It's important to note that the Veranda is not an adult day care facility, but a respite care ministry—created specifically to give care partners a much-needed break while their loved ones are cared for with dignity, compassion, and Christ-centered love. This season requires patience, wisdom, and favor as doors are opened and guidelines are navigated. We ask for prayer—that God would grant clarity, provision, and supernatural favor with every decision-maker, and that He would continue to establish the Veranda as a place of rest, renewal, and hope for caregivers and families alike.  www.theverandaministries.org Send your comments and emails to: mailto:mao1024@gmail.com

It is our favorite time of year: the 2026 Trend Report is here! Caroline, Taryn, and Liz are joined by the Ballard Designs Product Design Team—Hillary Park, and Will Turner—to break down exactly what is coming next in the world of interiors. The team reveals the surprising colors predicted to dominate (including "Green Glow" aka Slime and "Fresh Purple"), why "Builder Khaki" is making a nostalgic comeback, and the specific design aesthetic that bridges the gap between Gen Z and Boomers. They also discuss the move away from gray, the evolution of bouclé, and why your next gallery wall should feature "weird" personal art. Quick Decorating Takeaways: Brown is the New Black: Move over, cool grays. The team confirms that brown—from "Cocoa Powder" to "Builder Khaki"—is the dominant neutral for 2026. It pairs perfectly with the trending warm metals (like nickel) and "dirty" pastels. Embrace "Grandma Crafts": High-tech is out; analog is in. The trend of "Grandma Crafts" is huge, with needlepoint, embroidery, and paint-by-numbers becoming the ultimate way to unwind and decorate. Look for the "North Star": Celestial motifs are having a moment. Look for stars, moons, and zodiac themes in hardware, bedding, and fabrics as people seek direction and meaning in their homes. A New Year's Eve celebration with those living with dementia and Alzheimer's feels sacred, filled with soft moments, memories, and unexpected joy. Paper hats sit crooked, cider overflows, noisemakers honking away, and questions may be repeated, but heart and presence matter most. On this very day at the Veranda, stories unfold—some vivid, some fragments—showing that memory lives in body and spirit. Laughter erupts over funny tales, while tender moments honor loved ones lost. The countdown may vary, but the true celebration is about togetherness. Hugs, music, and shared memories remind us that feelings matter more than details, and even in forgetfulness, we remain whole and worthy here. This is what Veranda Ministries and Mary Anne Oglesby-Sutherly's mission are all about. Happy New Year! We don't have to remember everything to feel something. We don't need every detail to know love. And even in forgetting, we are still ourselves—still belonging, still worthy, still here. www.verandaministries.org

We're excited to welcome interior designer Sara Hillery to the show! Based in Richmond, Virginia, Sara's firm blends function with one-of-a-kind decorative pieces to create story-driven rooms. Named a "Next Wave Designer" by House Beautiful and featured in Veranda and The Wall Street Journal, Sara joins Caroline and Liz to demystify "transitional" design and share her spirited approach to holiday decorating. Sara explains how she balances antiques with clean lines to create timeless spaces, her method for editing a room like an onion, and how she reinvents her holiday decorating theme every single year. She also shares her secret for keeping Christmas trees alive and her favorite way to spark conversation at dinner parties. Quick Decorating Takeaways: Peel the Onion: When defining your style, pin up everything you love on a board, then "peel back the layers of the onion" by removing items until you reach a harmonious balance of favorite pieces. Create a "Thread" Between Rooms: You don't need to paint every room the same color, but rooms should have equal "tonal weight" and a unifying thread (like a specific welt or texture) so you can move a chair from one room to another without it looking out of place. Hydrate Your Holiday: To keep fresh greenery and trees from drying out, soak garlands in water overnight before hanging them, and add a little Miracle-Gro to your Christmas tree water to keep it fresh and prevent needle drop. In this deeply personal episode, Mary Anne Oglesby-Sutherly reveals a long-hidden family secret, an admission that, once uncovered, changed the course of events forever. Although the truth may be upsetting, Mary Anne stresses that it is also the foundation for healing. Her story explores how hidden truths affect future generations and how those with dementia may carry the weight of concealed pain and unresolved memories. This discussion highlights that honesty, even when difficult, is an act of compassion. While truth doesn't erase the past, it can help shape a transformative future.
