Here we are at last with our first proper episode of 2025, but it's far from business as usual with the first official reveal of Nintendo's imaginatively titled Switch 2, which means it can't be long now until Rob get's all his games back - and this time in glorious 4K! There's also been another Xbox Developer Direct to reassure us that 2025 won't revolve around the release of GTA VI quite as much as were led to believe, with the surprise reveal of not just Ninja Gaiden 4, but a super shadow drop of Ninja Gaiden 2 Sigma on Gamepass NOW!As if Rob doesn't have enough on there to play, even having wrapped up Indiana Jones & The Great Circle since last episode! Happy New Year all! We hope you got all the videogames you wanted and most importantly some well earned time to enjoy them! We certainly did, in the gift of Machine Games' remarkable Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, which really didn't need to be anywhere near as good as it turned out in the end. So good in fact to receive full honours from at least one of us in our regular games of the year segment as is tradition. After that disaster-piece of an episode last time around, we thought we'd try super hard to make this one a success, it could be argued even, that we overcompensated. E3 might be dead, but we still got a boat load of trailers last weekend and as usual we're here to talk all about it. We all loved the look of Ubisoft's imminent Star Wars Outlaws, which got two enormous gameplay reveals at their conference, while Monster Hunter Wilds cut through with it's unique beasts and intense weather conditions. Even though new games are finally coming out again, Sony's latest console is still fairly bereft of them so this holiday season, we're getting some massive announcements instead so you can at least buy a PS5 in the knowledge that there will some day be a reason for it.Entitled cynicism aside, the announcement of not one but two Marvel-based Insomniac Games cannot be understated, whilst more footage of the next God of War promises more of the same, which is really just fine as far as we're concerned.And both Rob & Will have been reacquainted with the concept of a brand new AAA game this month in the form of Arkane's Deathloop and that isn't even the only groundhog-day-time-loop game this week. It's been fairly slim pickings on the new game front so far this year, but Sony at least had one card to play in the latest installment of Ratchet & Clank, which sees the lovable lombax and his mechanised pal span multiple realities in an adventure that truly harnesses the power of PS5. And as if that wasn't enough, they drop a State of Play on us deep-diving into the upcoming Horizon Forbidden West, which whilst spanning both console generations, surely couldn't look more beautiful if they tried. There's also some non-sony goodness to be had, mostly on the fighting front, with Guilty Gear Strive and the remaster of Virtua Fighter V and a fair amount more besides... It's that time again, so buckle up babies as we go through our highlights of this year's slightly-more-organised-than-2020's-summer-of-games E3!While this year's event may still have been virtual, fairly light on release dates and once again a sony-free zone, there were still some notable glimpses into our gaming future. Microsoft once again claiming a massive piece of the pie post their bethesda acquisition and lauding their enormous gamepass wand over nearly every game in sight, but there were also a few surprises from Ubisoft and Square in the form of some potentially lucrative licenses, namely Avatar & Guardians of the Galaxy! And of course, Devolver once again added some much needed satire & gore! Will might be in the midst of a between game slump, but his ears certainly pricked up upon news of Sony's next wave of VR tech, which we begrudgingly have to concede has been his call for the last 2 years or so of predictions we've run on this show.Meanwhile Rob is utterly dismayed by the firing of Bloodlines 2 developer, Hardsuit Labs, spelling almost certain doom for the project in question, but was somewhat bouyed by the strategic depth of Gears Tactics and the sheer badassery of being Batman in Arkham VR, which he'd been putting off playing until he had enough space to swing a batarang around in.And finally Marcus is the one landing on the cutting edge of gaming once again, with a return to his Capcom franchise of choice, for of course the Monster Hunter Rise demo landed recently. We ended up ranting so much on our last recording that we thought we might as well break this more news-orientated chat into it's own thing. While the world might be at a standstill, that hasn't made any difference to videogames, especially in a year that sees the launch of a new generation of consoles. One of which, we've finally got our sticky paws on. Well, Rob has at least.
