When Walmart calls, you answer. When the retail giant offers you shelf space in 2,700 of its stores, you say “yes.” But turning that opportunity into success? That's where the real challenge begins. Alan Scholnick, the founder of Datefix, a date-based nutrition snack brand, talks about how its two-year development from nascent idea to Walmart shelves has shaped the company's path forward. Show notes: 0:45: Tax Day/TR Meetup. $100 In Your Pocket. Fonzie's Shark. Not Your Father's Ice Cream. Easy-ish Rice & Beans. – We're 11 days away from Taste Radio's NYC Meetup – you should join us. Oh, and BevNET Live Summer 2025 is right around the corner; there's money to be saved. Ray samples an unusual minty drink and hates on April Fool's Day CPG pranks. John shares his two cents on Groupon, before Mike shares the origins of a sharky saying. Jacqui highlights “breast milk ice cream” (yes, that's how it's described) and a line of easy to prepare rice mixes inspired by Latin cuisine. Mike talks about a U.K.-based tea brand and a hotpot “queen” before Ray makes a stunning admission. 28:51: Interview: Alan Scholnick, Founder & CEO, Datefix – On location at Expo West 2025, Alan shares the story behind Datefix, which draws from his Lebanese mother-in-law's culinary traditions and seamlessly blends his passion for fitness and nourishing, flavorful food. He highlights the brand's recent rebrand, which focuses on elevating the product's simple yet premium ingredients, while positioning Datefix for exciting co-branding collaborations in the future. Alan elaborates on the versatility of Datefix, noting its ability to fit into multiple daypart occasions, and discusses how the product's portability and long shelf life make it a challenge to define a single primary positioning. He also expresses gratitude for the overwhelming support from the community, reflecting on the brand's journey since Expo West 2023. In this Prime Talk Podcast Video Sponsored by GETIDA – Brandon Fuhrman - Founder of AMZ Innovate, shares his eCommerce journey. Brandon was born and raised in NJ and already created his first website at the age of 14 back in 1995. He got a degree in international business and marketing from George Washington University in Washington DC and spent a year in London after school to do some work. He created the website OwnAPainting.com and sold paintings online. After failing to hire a good SEO agency, he did his own SEO and that offered his SEO services. During 2009 -2013 attended law school at Rutgers University in Newark, NJ, and got a law degree. At the same time started selling on Amazon. First did drop shipping, then reselling. In 2014 he took an Amazon course by ASM (Amazon Selling Machine) and realized he can sell his own brand on Amazon. In 2015 he got married in August, and visited China in September, sourced products on time for Q4 2015, and experienced great success. During 2016-2017 he grew and optimized his Amazon business. Launched more products. Delegated work to VAs, connected and networked with other sellers online and in the NYC Amazon sellers Meetup group. There he met Jared Orkin who was the head of the group. In 2018 he joined the MDS (Million Dollar Sellers) group. Also created the first AMZ Innovate NYC Amazon Sellers Event. In 2019 he took over managing the NYC Meetup group that took place every month in the Payoneer corporate office. In 2019 he launched the second AMZ Innovate show which was a great success. During 2020 he experienced the best year yet selling on Amazon. Sales grew 3X. He Expects Prime day and Q4 of 2020 to be record-breaking and historical for Amazon sellers. With the Seahawks coming off their bye week, Adam and Brandan take a look around the NFC West to see how the rest of the division fared while the team was resting up. No new injuries came to light, but we did hear an updated timeline for Luke Joeckel. The guys discuss what that will mean for the offensive line until he can return. The New York Giants are returning back home after a big win over the Denver Broncos. After losing four of their receivers, including Odell Beckham Jr, their rookie tight end emerged as Eli Manning's top target. Orleans Darkwa was also a big part of the Giants win along with a big game from Jason Pierre-Paul and Janoris Jenkins on defense. Pete Carroll commented on how it was great to see this Giants team playing at its best and that there was a lot they could gain from watching it. With the upcoming game against the Giants, we highlight one of the top Seahawks bars in the country by bringing on Patrick Shalvoy. Patrick was the bartender there who helped make it a destination for all Seahawks fans on Sunday. After getting things established in 2009, he shares the story of the moment the bar solidified itself as a place where Seahawks fans will always have a home. He also shares his story about how fans and bar patrons rallied around him after a stroke nearly took his life. In the last portion of the show, we get an update from a member of the flock who has Adam's favorite catch phrase resonating through the Pentagon. Do better nods go to Skip Bayless as well as anyone crying about a play that continues to emphasize the importance of ball security near the goal line. The guys talk about a former Seahawks lineman who gets an honorary Better at Life nomination from Washington's Lieutenant Governor. Adam recognizes a former Lakers legend for doing the right thing when Skip Bayless wasn't, and Brandan recognizes a big milestone for any fans of cryptozoology. There are a lot of reasons to love being a real estate investor. One of the most impressive is the “unfair” tax treatment investors get by the US Government – and we mean that in a good way! On today’s episode of The BiggerPockets Podcast, we sit down with CPA Linda Weygant to learn more about those incredible tax benefits. You’ll also hear how she discovered the power of real estate through her clients, and how that led her to begin her own investing journey. Linda shares how she navigates the messy world of investing in properties that have HOAs, as well as how she uses her “unfair advantages” to succeed where others fail. Finally, as a CPA, we have a special “tax-focused-Fire-Round” where we talk about LLCs, deductions, and much more!In This Episode We Cover:How Linda got into real estateWhy the government likes real estate investorsWhat her first deal looked likeWhat to look out for when using credit cards for rehabsShould you be debt free before investing?Debt to income ratioWhy she chose a townhouse as a first investmentHer HOA storyThe landlord vs HOA mentalityHow she got her positions in the HOA boardsRent-By-The-Room apartmentsHow to manage Rent-By-The-RoomInvesting with family and getting an LLCHow one should handle their businessWhere she’s headed in the next 10 yearsAnd SO much more!Links from the ShowBiggerPockets ForumsSept. 27, 2017 NYC Meetup w/Brandon Turner (Darren’s Event)BiggerPockets CalculatorsPartnerships, Landlording, and Getting Started in Real Estate with Meghan McCallumMeghan McCallum’s BiggerPockets ProfileBiggerPockets Meetup EventsBrandon Hall’s BiggerPockets ProfileBooks Mentioned in this ShowSet for Life by Scott TrenchThe Book on Rental Property Investing by Brandon TurnerFinding and Funding Great Deals by Anson YoungThe Book on Tax Strategies for the Savvy Real Estate Investor by Amanda Han and Matthew MacFarlandThe 4-Hour Workweek by Timothy FerrissYou’ve Got This by Will MatthewsFire Round QuestionsWriting off a firearm?Meet 750hrs on a Single Rental Property? Is education cost a tax deductible business expense?Tweetable Topics:“The costs to maintain a property go up every year.” (Tweet This!)“Always be open for something new.” (Tweet This!)“Always treat your tenants with respect.” (Tweet This!)Connect with LindaLinda’s BiggerPockets Profile

This week we chat with Daniel Zen, former Google engineer, technology instructor at zen.digital, NYC Regional Coordinator for Burning Man, coordinator for the Angular.js NYC Meetup, and general high-tech wizard. https://zen.digital/https://twitter.com/danielzenhttps://medium.com/@danielzenhttps://github.com/danielzen Some of the topics we discuss:• The curses – and blessings! – of runaway technological surveillance (and sousveillance, and coveillance…).• How adolescence and sexuality have changed for children growing up with the Internet.• The future of festival culture and how it is a testbed for disaster relief technologies.• The danger of putting your medical devices online (the hackability of the Internet of Things)• What happens when we RECORD EVERYTHING• The isolating effects of Virtual Reality and how to create interactive spaces that allow us to share in the experience.• The collapse of VR, AR, and MR into just: “reality”• How TV, digital photography, and streaming video has changed the way we think about sharing our lives, perceptions, and emotions.• Adapting to an age of accelerating change by staying curious and loving learning• Concerns about technology’s role in widening the gap between the poor and the ultra rich.• The internet as a kind of “planetary cathedral” and re-envisioning our lives in light of a project that extends beyond the horizons of our individual lives. Daniel Quotes:“The festival world has changed, where now everybody has a cell phone and the ability to take pictures. And very much I believe, and the community I’m in believes, in consent when it comes to photography. Especially when people are in maybe a greater state of undress. Now we’re in a world where surveillance is much more prevalent…”“I’m a believe in bringing off-line technology to Burning Man. I don’t like the concept of being online at Burning Man, but I do like the concept of technology at Burning Man. I’d love to see an INTRANET at Burning Man…without any connection to the outside world. And such a system, if it were implemented well, could be of use in disaster situations.”“Unfortunately, we are a society that enjoys convenience – and we are all too ready to give up our privacy for that convenience.”“I’m not one of these guys that’s like, ‘Hey, the Singularity’s happening, Oh My God!’ I’m like, ‘Yeah, OF COURSE it’s happening, duh, I mean can’t you see that?’ It’s so blatantly obvious to me I don’t feel the need to argue it. It’s just part of my reality. I accept it as much as the air I breathe.”“The haves and the have-nots is a really scary situation. Michael Quotes:“If the sea level rises, we want the city to rise with it.”“The way that people play poker when you can see someone else’s hand is fundamentally different. There’s no body shame in a nudist colony. We’re going to have a much healthier relationship to living in public, in a few decades, than we do today.”“I don’t really know which version of the future is better: one in which we can keep our secrets, or one in which we can’t.”“We’ve been living in an audio-only virtual reality since the invention of the Walkman.”“I hold out hope that it’s the desire to keep everyone in the game that ends up that ends up winning this for the human species.”“Couldn’t we maybe upgrade it from Burning Man to Composting Man?” Mentions:• Kevin Kelly, author of The Inevitable• David Brin, author of The Transparent Society• Dadara (aka Daniel Rozenberg of Solipsmission)• Google Latitude• Burning Man• Gregory Bateson• William Gibson (“Cyberspace is where you are when you’re on the phone.”)• Lynn De Rothschild’s proposed Universal Income See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.
