In this episode, I share a deeply personal and wide ranging conversation I recently had with Greg Gerber, host of the Forward From 50 podcast. Greg originally came into my world more than a decade ago as a Podcasting A to Z student. Today, he hosts a show dedicated to people over fifty who know their best work is still ahead of them. The conversation became a powerful reflection on identity, ambition, reinvention, and what it means to step fully into the work you were made to do. This conversation tells the story of my journey from insurance agent to podcaster, from Podcast Answer Man to mindset and business strategist, and now into this next chapter where everything is coming together with more clarity and alignment than ever before. Key insights from this conversation Your voice and desire to communicate are not accidents. They are clues to what you are here to do. Mine started with CB radio and a toy microphone long before podcasting ever existed. Leaving a career that works is often harder than leaving one that fails. Walking away from insurance, and later from Podcast Answer Man, required trusting who I was becoming more than what I had already built. Podcasting A to Z did far more than launch shows. It revealed that most people were really looking for business clarity, confidence, and a way to create income and impact from what they already knew. The difference between a hobby and a business is not a podcast. It is having a clear ideal client, a real problem, and a way to solve it that people are willing to pay for. Your identity is not the role you played. Losing a job or retiring does not mean you lost who you are. It just means one chapter ended. Journaling is one of the fastest ways to reconnect with who you are, why you are here, and what you actually want. Desire is not something to be justified. It is something to be listened to. The 50 Things I Want exercise is a way to let that voice speak again. The people you surround yourself with either expand your vision or quietly shrink it. Choose wisely. The return of Podcast Answer Man is not nostalgia. It is a strategic move made possible by new tools, better leverage, and a deeper understanding of how I serve people best. The first fifty years of my life were preparation for the work I am doing now. Ready to start your own podcast If this episode stirred something in you and you have been thinking about starting a podcast or finally taking the one you have more seriously, I invite you to join me for my next session of Podcasting A to Z. This is my four week live coaching experience where you and I work together to turn your idea, message, and voice into real impact. You can learn more and register at PodcastingAtoZ.com

In this episode, I share a full behind the scenes look at everything I have been working on since I made the decision to bring Podcast Answer Man and Podcasting A to Z back as a primary focus in my business. Episode 802 was the story of why this decision happened. This episode is the story of what actually happened next. Over the past month, I have been rebuilding, reconnecting, and reactivating an entire ecosystem that had been dormant for nearly a decade. In this conversation, I walk you through the real work behind the scenes. The relationships, the systems, the strategy, and the momentum that started moving the moment I committed to this direction. I talk about landing a speaking engagement at Podfest Expo and what that means for reconnecting with the podcasting community. I share how reconnecting with people like Nick Pavlidis and Rob Greenlee has already started opening doors and reconnecting relationships in the industry. I also walk through how Podcast Answer Man is now back on a true weekly publishing schedule. Every Friday at 12:01am Eastern Time, there is a new episode. I also announce that The Cliff Ravenscraft Show is now back to a weekly schedule as well. Every Monday at 12:01am Eastern Time, there will be a new episode focused on business strategy, mindset, and the behind the scenes of what I am building. I share some of the emotional responses I have already received from longtime listeners who heard the Podcast Answer Man intro music again for the first time in years. Those messages reminded me just how meaningful this work has been in people's lives for more than two decades. I also talk about the strategic decisions I have made to support this new season, including moving the Podcast Answer Man website to PodPage, setting up new affiliate partnerships, rebuilding the Podcasting A to Z sales page, and launching a new series of live interviews called Where Are They Now featuring former Podcasting A to Z students who are still creating content more than a decade later. A big part of this episode is dedicated to the work I have been doing behind the scenes on my email list. I explain why I moved back to ConvertKit, how I am rebuilding my email sequences, and how I am creating separate paths for people who want podcasting focused content and those who want business, mindset, and entrepreneurial content. This episode is a snapshot of a turning point. It captures what it looks like when an idea becomes a commitment and when momentum starts to build. If you want the deeper story of why Podcast Answer Man came back, listen to Episode 802. If you want to understand how everything is now being built to support that decision, this episode is the next chapter. One of the most common questions I get from podcasters is how long a podcast episode should be, and in this episode I go much deeper than just throwing out a number. Podcast Episode Length In the first half of this episode, I answer a SpeakPipe voicemail from Nate about episode length and whether it is okay to mix short and long episodes within the same show. I explain why episode length is about how your show fits into the daily habits and routines of your listeners. The Pressure To Add Video In the second half of the episode, I respond to a voicemail from Jim about video podcasting. I talk honestly about the current hype around YouTube, Spotify video, and the pressure some people feel to turn every podcast into a video show. A New Method of Audio Production I pull back the curtain and explain exactly how I am producing Podcast Answer Man today in a way I never have before. I am recording and editing in small segments inside Adobe Audition, building the episode piece by piece, cutting, refining, and reshaping as I go. PodPage Update I also share updates about Podpage, including new features they added in response to my feedback and the SEO scoring tools that help optimize episode pages for search. This week (December 17th, 2025) on episode #645 of The New Media Show with Rob Greenlee host is joined by longtime podcasting pioneer and returning guest co-host Cliff Ravenscraft, the Podcast Answer Man, for a wide-ranging and timely conversation about where podcasting has been and where it's heading next. The episode opens with a reflection on the long-running industry debate around the definition of a podcast and why that question has resurfaced so often over the last few years. Rob and Cliff explore how audience behavior has quietly moved ahead of industry debates, shifting consumption toward a mix of audio, video, livestreams, and platforms like YouTube, often without waiting for permission or consensus. Cliff shares the full story behind his return to the Podcast Answer Man brand after stepping away years ago, including why he left, what he focused on during his time away, and what changes in the podcasting and creator landscape made this the right moment to come back. He reflects on two decades in podcasting, helping tens of thousands of creators launch shows, and why many creators today feel overwhelmed by conflicting advice around video, algorithms, and monetization. Rob introduces the concept of podcasting's evolving eras, beginning with the often-forgotten “Zero Era” where audio and video podcasting coexisted early on, followed by the MeUndies era, the experimentation and acquisition boom, and the more recent identity-crisis phase defined by the question “What is a podcast?” Together, Rob and Cliff discuss why the industry may now be entering what's being called the Liquid Content Era, where shows are no longer confined to a single format and content flows across feeds, platforms, and experiences. The conversation digs into the tension between creator intent and audience convenience, the role of RSS in a changing ecosystem, and the risks of letting algorithms dictate creative decisions. Cliff offers a counterbalance to the pressure many creators feel to be everywhere at once, emphasizing that audio-only podcasting can still succeed when aligned with clear goals, sustainable workflows, and meaningful audience relationships. The episode also explores production quality, evolving audio standards, video integration challenges, international podcast growth, and why podcasting remains a powerful global medium despite constant claims that it's “over” or “dead.” This episode is both a reality check and a recalibration, encouraging creators to stop defending definitions, focus on serving audiences, and choose formats intentionally rather than reactively. Join the conversation in comments, and be part of the discussion about what podcasting really means now and what it can become next. Twenty years ago, I launched my very first podcast with no idea where it would lead. What began as a hobby eventually changed the trajectory of my life, my work, and my family. It also led to the creation of Podcast Answer Man and Podcasting A to Z, two things that played a massive role in the early podcasting industry. If you've followed my journey for any length of time, you know that I eventually stepped away from that brand and that work. And for years, many people assumed it was gone for good. In this episode, I share the full story of why Podcast Answer Man is back, why Podcasting A to Z is returning, and why this moment feels so aligned in a way it never could have before. This is the honest narrative of how this decision came to be. What led to this return I walk you through a recent Hot Seat conversation inside the Green Room Mastermind that sparked a major realization. I talk about burnout, identity, seasons of growth, and why the version of me who stopped Podcast Answer Man could not have sustained it long term. More importantly, I explain why the version of me today can. With tools like Notion and AI, questions that once required hours of effort can now be answered efficiently and accurately. Combined with clearer boundaries, daily meditation, nervous system regulation, and a very different life stage, the conditions are no longer the same. This return is about integrating everything I've learned since leaving. A conversation with Stephanie Stephanie joins me in this episode to reflect on what she noticed during this season of change. she brings up burnout, parenting load, business funnels, and the reality of what it takes to sustain meaningful work over decades. Her perspective adds grounding and clarity to why this return feels different, healthier, and more sustainable. Why this matters now Podcast Answer Man is once again the easiest entry point for people who don't yet know me. It's the front door into my world. From there, there are many ways I serve today. Podcasting A to Z. Business strategy and mindset coaching. Mastermind groups. Long-term client relationships. This return reconnects all of it. Podcast Answer Man will now be my primary weekly podcast, focused on podcasting, gear, tools, industry insights, and listener questions. The Cliff Ravenscraft Show will continue as a behind-the-scenes space for mindset, personal growth, and deeper reflections, released as inspiration strikes. What to do next If you want to hear from me every single week, make sure you are subscribed to Podcast Answer Man. You can find it at PodcastAnswerMan.com, where you'll find links to the main podcast apps and a place to submit your own podcasting questions. If you want to work with me personally and be guided step by step through launching your podcast, my next live session of Podcasting A to Z begins in January. In this episode, I speak about the enduring power and benefits of audio-first content creation, specifically podcasting. Even as the media landscape continues to evolve, I firmly believe that audio podcasting remains a highly valuable and underutilized strategy for building your message, business, and influence. I share my own extensive experience in the podcasting world, having launched over 50 of my own shows and published more than 4,800 episodes over the past 19 years. I also reflect on my role as the "Podcast Answer Man," helping over 40,000 people successfully launch their own audio podcasts. Throughout the episode, I highlight the 6 key benefits that audio podcasting offers, which include: A smaller "haystack" for content discovery compared to other platforms The ubiquity of smartphones and the convenience of audio consumption The captive audience that audio content can command The ease of connecting with experts and mentors The ability to build rapport and trust over time, even while you sleep The greater influence that comes from dedicated, binge-listening audiences I also address the impact of platforms like Clubhouse and short-form video, acknowledging the shifts in attention, but emphasizing the enduring value of consistent, high-quality audio content. Ultimately, I make a strong case for the power of audio-first content creation and encourage listeners to consider implementing this strategy as a means of elevating their message and business. In this episode, I share an insightful response to a question presented in a recent session of my Next Level Coaching program. A participant asked for advice on how to handle it when others don't understand, and perhaps even question or doubt the unique vision you have for your business or entrepreneurial ventures. I open up about my own experience with my mastermind group questioning my decision to leave Podcast Answer Man behind and pursue my current coaching and mindset work. I emphasize the importance of being your own number one cheerleader, and how seeking encouragement within yourself through journaling, prayer, and meditation is crucial. I also discuss the role of a supportive spouse, if married, and the value of having a peer group that believes in you, even if they provide constructive feedback. Navigating the motivations behind others' doubts is key - some may fear your success or feel threatened by your ambition. Ultimately, I share that if you can't be talked out of your vision, even by your closest advisors, it's a testament to how vital that vision is for your future. In this episode of Podcast Answer Man, I wanted to share how I used ChatGPT's new voice functionality to interview me for an episode of my main podcast, The Cliff Ravenscraft Show. I simply felt that this topic might be insightful and inspirational in your podcasting efforts. Since I simply included the entire episode of The Cliff Ravenscraft Show, I'm simply going to copy and paste the show notes from that episode below: In this episode of The Cliff Ravenscraft Show, I delve deep into my personal journey with reading. I recall a time when the mere thought of picking up a book was enough to make me groan in protest. But oh, how times have changed! Dive in with me as I recount my transformation from a reluctant reader to someone who now revels in the world of books. Key Takeaways: My Aversion to Reading: The roots of my reading aversion can be traced back to my elementary, high school and college days. Books assigned were often not aligned with my personal interests. But was that the only reason? A Turnaround in 2009: It was the book 48 Days to the Work You Love by Dan Miller that reignited my love for reading. Learn how it changed my perspectives on work and income. Embracing the Digital Age: The convenience of e-books and audio books transformed my reading habits. I share how the Kindle app and Audible app on my iPhone shifted my approach to books and allowed me to read more frequently and in more places. Tackling Multiple Books: Today, I'm currently juggling more than 70 books at once! I discuss my technique for managing multiple reads and how not feeling obligated to finish each one has given me a newfound sense of freedom. Book Organization Tips: From the power of Kindle samples to creating book collections, I provide some of my personal tips and insights that have enhanced my reading experience. An Interview Twist: In a special segment, I'm interviewed by none other than ChatGPT from OpenAI. Dive into a unique experience as I answer questions crafted to pull out the essence of my reading journey. I hope my journey inspires you to look at reading in a new light, to find joy in the pages of a book, and to embrace the knowledge and experiences they offer without any reservations. Overcoming Your Big Challenge – PTC 458

FOCUS ON THE CHALLENGE What is your biggest challenge right now? When coaches come to me for help, they aren't looking for coaching. They are looking for solutions to their biggest challenge. If you want to succeed, don't try to solve all of your problems. Focus on your next most important challenge. Stay focused until you reach success. Distraction is the enemy of our success. How many courses and books have your started but never finished? At that time, you had a challenge you were trying to overcome. Did the challenge just go away? Or, did you get distracted by the next big thing. LOSING CLIENTS A year ago, my business hit a plateau. I wasn't gaining clients as fast as I wanted. Things really slowed. My business expenses hadn't slowed down. And my revenue wasn't growing. One day I was on a call with a long time client. She was my most tenured client at the time. We had been together for quite some time. It was time to renew our agreement, and she dropped the bomb on me. On that call, she let me know she was doubling down on her business coach and did not want to renew with me. She said she appreciated all we've accomplished, but it was time to try something new. Now, most all business relationships come to an end at some point. In sports, players get traded, cut or retire. In business, leaders leave for other opportunities, get fired for sub-par performance, or leave due to life changes. Things come to an end and this was no different. But it felt different. I was getting comfortable with our relationship, but she needed more focus. Suddenly, I lost an important stream of revenue. And my business wasn't growing. More importantly, I wasn't growing. I wasn't doing anything to intentionally grow my business. GETTING CLIENTS It suddenly hit me that my clients was trimming back to gain focus. She had an important challenge she needed to solve, and focus would help her get there. When I evaluated my situation, I realized I too was following (and paying) three different experts. They each had a different strategy to achieve a different result. That's when I decided landing more clients was my number one priority. So, I decided to not renew one of my coaches. The second mentor was trimmed back tremendously. I remained involved in the group, but not to the level I had been. And, I doubled down on the one coach that had the clearest path to helping me land more clients. That was a year ago. In Q4 of 2022, I had my best quarter ever. More clients. Increased revenue. Incredible momentum. That is the power of focus on your most important challenge. Are you ready to overcome your challenge? First, identify your most important challenge that needs to be solved today. Next, find the one person or resource that can help you overcome that challenge. Finally, focus on that one challenge until you overcome it. Don't waiver. Eliminate all other distractions. Be diligent until you succeed. Coaches recently shared with me their most pressing challenge. Let's give you a few examples of how to overcome your challenge. LONG CONTENT My biggest challenge is setting time to prepare long term content, which I am working on, but not efficiently. Janie Take time to create a process. Each quarter, I create a content calendar. This calendar maps out the topics over the next 13 weeks. By laying out the topics, I have a roadmap to see how each topic connects to the next and supports the long-term strategy. Next, I create a rough outline for each of the 13 topics. This process takes a few hours. Block out the time once a quarter and your content creation will be much easier. Now that I have the outlines, I just need to create the episodes. And I repurpose the content. Define all of the steps that need to be completed to create your episode each week. You already have the outline. Now you simply need to perform. These steps will include equipment set up, recording, editing, exporting and publishing. Finally, schedule it. What gets scheduled gets done. You don't have to do all of the steps at the same time. In fact, it's wise to split them up. Recording and performing require a different part of the brain than editing and posting. There are times of the day when you are better at performing with high energy. And there are other times of the day when you are more focused for the detailed work of editing and posting. Do the work when you're in your zone of genius for each. The most important part is scheduling. Put it on your calendar and honor it. GETTING SALES My biggest challenge in my author business right now is getting sales for my already published books and also launching myself as a Speaker. Regards, Creg Which is most important? I would think being a speaker would lead to more book sales. Many coaches spread themselves too thin. My radio general manager once gave me a great piece of advice. We were planning our television advertising. Part of that process was deciding which shows to advertise on. He told me, "It's more important to go deep rather than wide." He wanted us to get in front of a focused audience many times rather than a broad audience once or twice. Instead of buying every show, we purchased ads on a few shows that we knew our audience was watching. Then, we were on that show multiple times to ensure our audience saw the commercial. When you are working to grow your podcast audience or grow your business, find three marketing vehicles that can help you get there and go all in. Don't try to do every strategy. It will take too long to build an audience. Instead, pick the three that you enjoy most, you can do well, and you can do consistently. That might include speaking at events, daily email, and podcast appearances. It might include social media groups, YouTube advertising, and webinars with JV partners. Pick your favorite three. Focus on those three only. Don't get distracted by the shiny new strategy. Stick to your three. REBRANDING I'm rebranding my podcast to unify my business. My challenge is should I start a new podcast, or just rename the one I have? Is there a traffic/audience size tipping-point that it makes more sense to do one over the other? -Ryan There isn't really a tipping point. It all depends on the audience. Will the new show have the same audience as the previous show? If so, just change the name and keep going. When the new show has a different audience, start a new show. Cliff Ravenscraft was the Podcast Answer Man. That was also the name of his show. Podcast Answer Man launched in December 2006 to help podcasters with everything podcasting. Cliff pivoted to become a life coach rather than simply a podcast coach. After 438 episodes, he rebranded the show to The Cliff Ravenscraft Show. The new podcast is devoted to helping people take their message, business and life to the next level. The Podcast Answer Man audience could also be the Cliff Ravenscraft audience. The target just expanded a bit. However, Cliff has now released a new version of Podcast Answer Man. He launched it in August 2021. Every episode of the new Podcast Answer Man will be evergreen content on the topic of Podcasting. Unfortunately, he has only posted 14 episodes in 2 years. Many podcasts have changed the name. It's not the name that matters. It comes down to the audience. Who are you trying to attract. Does your current audience fit that description? If so, just change the name and keep going.   If you don't have a mentor who can take your hand and walk you every step of the way, go to www.PodcastTalentCoach.com/apply, click the button and apply to have a chat with me. That's why I decided to evolve my brand to Mindset Answer Man - to provide a better indication of the kind of advice I was giving. As the result of working with so many people, I began to recognize patterns between those who were successful in achieving their podcasting goals and those who were not. What I found was that despite having helped many people launch their podcasts, many of them had built their podcasting efforts on a shaky foundation, leaving them unable to experience the full potential of podcasting. In this episode, I explore how important the order of operations of STATE, STORY, and STRATEGY is to creating the most successful outcomes. If you ever wondered why I shut down my Podcast Answer Man business and rebranded myself as the Mindset Answer Man, this episode will give greater insight into my decision than I've shared previously. Recently, I hosted an "Ask Me Anything" session on the topic of "The Business of Coaching." Kate Nankivell let me know that she would be participating live and that she planned to ask the following question: "I've just started a new podcast called The Shape of Kate. I'm at the beginning of my much needed weight loss and regain my fitness and health journey and I want to share this journey and so much more through this podcast. Now this represents a departure from my current business so I'm thinking about my monetization strategies. My clear intention with this podcast is to be an inspiration through sharing my journey but not a weight loss coach or fitness expert. I'll interview those experts as I go. They rightly claim their expertise. My monetization ideas at this early stage is to bring on advertisers who pay for results. Eg when people who listen and click through to their offer and/or use my coupon code they pay me an agreed affiliate fee." When it came time to have my conversation with Kate, I had already created an outline of insights that would have helped her optimize the effectiveness of her affiliate income streams, plus I had created a list of several other income streams that most people have not considered. Yet, within a few moments into our conversation, I closed the browser that had all the pre-outlined insights that I had prepared. It had become clear to me that there was a much more powerful and important conversation to be had. Have a listen to this episode to see where our conversation went. After the conversation, I give a commentary on the overall experience. I know that you'll gain a lot of value from this conversation. In this episode I answer a series of questions from Candace who asked... What do I do if I am "At Capacity" for the number of clients that I want to work with? Do I continue to do the Prosperous Coach Method? Do I tell them up front that I'm at capacity and that I have a waiting list? What about the issue of them losing fervor for wanting to work with me before I have an open spot for them?" In my response to these questions I covered the topics The "Half-Life of Enthusiasm" The danger of coaching "At Capacity" The fact that you are "At Capacity" is a symptom of an issue. That issue being that your potential clients see far more value in what you have to offer them than you do. (aka... You're Not Charging Enough!) Today, I am excited to interview Cliff Ravenscraft, the Mind Set Answer Man. Cliff is a big inspiration of mine. Cliff has been my mentor, and coach, for the past three years. Through his coaching and content, Cliff has helped me to become a better person and better entrepreneur. This is an excellent episode, Cliff gives us a full behind the scenes of the various businesses that he has started and scaled over the past fifteen years. Cliff has done it all. From an eBay store, to the original podcast coach (when he was known as the Podcast Answer Man), to his current business coaching and teaching entrepreneurs through his one-on-one coaching, mastermind groups, and conference. Cliff tells it all in this podcast episode, sharing the ups and downs of entrepreneurship, and sharing an in-depth analysis of his finances to give you a better understanding of what is possible in the online business space. Cliff Ravenscraft Case Study Cliff is featured in chapter three of my business ideas book. Below is the case study from the book where Cliff is featured. This comes directly from chapter three of the book:Start small, start niche as I recommend. Learn the ropes, learn everything you can about being your own boss and building your own business. Then go big and scale this business or launch your next big business with everything you have learned. Take Cliff Ravenscraft for example. Now one of the biggest names in podcasting and personal development, Cliff's first business was teaching people how to make money selling on eBay. He sold a digital product teaching how to build an eBay business. Then he pivoted, to a totally different interest in his life, and started a blog about the hit TV series Lost. This blog later turned into Cliff's first podcast. He got hooked on podcasting. He started to experience some financial success from his podcast about Lost and another podcast about The Hunger Games. He was making revenue from affiliate products and selling advertisement space on the podcast, but during this first venture into online business he learned a lot about podcasting. So, he started teaching others how to create podcasts. He later became known as the Podcast Answer Man, turning his hobby into the biggest podcasting education brand in the world making over $500,000 per year! But that is not where Cliff stopped. In 2018, Cliff decided to shut it all down and pivot again. Pivot to focus more on what he loved doing, teaching and life coaching. He totally shut down his podcasting business, a business capable of making $500,000 per year. Cliff took everything he learned about business over the past ten years and quickly became known as the Mindset Answer Man, with a life coaching business generating over $300,000 within the first year.Like Cliff, like me, like so many other entrepreneurs. Your first business does not need to be your last. If Cliff had continued his eBay store, or never moved on from his Lost podcast, he never would have grown into the Podcast Answer Man and never would have become the Mindset Answer Man. He would probably still be working as an insurance agent in Northern Kentucky. That being said, if he had not started on eBay and learned about online business, if he never started the Lost Podcast and learned about podcasting, if he had not started small and grown, we would not know who Cliff Ravenscraft is and hundreds of thousands of lives would be worse without him. This is your starting point. This first idea is your “Lost Podcast”. It might be your $500,000 business, but it does not need to be. This is the first step; this is a stepping stone to get you started in entrepreneurship. This is the starting line, start with this one small business. Learn to crawl first. Then learn to walk. Then take off sprinting.

If you want to change your life for the better, live the life of your dreams and break free from what is holding you back, You need to be at this event! Go to www.freethedream.live and get your tickets now. Spiritual Foundations: Be Decisive There is nothing we can do to get into heaven. We all try to align ourselves with our creator, so we can live in his kingdom by doing things on this earth, and we do not need to do that anymore! All we need to do is have faith in Jesus Christ. That is the only thing we need to do to enter the kingdom. In the old covenant with God, we had to have ceremonious sacrifices in order to be cleaned in the eyes of God. When Jesus came, He removed the need for that system. The work was all done by Jesus Christ, and now we no longer have to do it. So now we are just supposed to enjoy God's approval. You are perfect just the way you are. You do not need to be something different. Just be who you are. Feature Presentation "Change Your Thinking And Change Your Life" After being the Podcast Answer-Man, for so long, Cliff Ravenscraft decided to push that all away, and completely do something totally different. Why? Because he knew he was made to encourage, educate and inspire people and he wanted to help people live their best life. If you have hope, you have influence. Are you living the life that you are created to live? Find a mentor to motivate you and hold you accountable for your actions and your outcome. You have to shift your identity and what you are saying to yourself. Even though there are other people that teach what you may do, only you can do it and reach the people who would identify with you. Cliff suggests reading the 'Big Leap" by Gay Hendricks. It teaches you to work within your zone of genius, where you can make the greatest impact. What will it take to get to do the things you love to do 80% of your day. What do you have to do to make that possible? Your language and what you tell yourself is so important. You have to make a decision to do what you want to do with no other possibilities or wavering. Free the dream is for people who have a dream inside of them that says I wonder what life could be like if I do _____. It is for anyone who is on the fence and doesn't know what their dream is, and also for those who had the dream, left their day job, and are struggling to succeed because they feel sleazy trying to sell their product. Free the dream will help to ignite you and your dream and set it into motion. Go to Cliff's event!   My guest in this episode is John Lee Dumas. JLD is an American entrepreneur and podcaster based in Puerto Rico. He is the founder and host of EOFire, a daily podcast that interviews entrepreneurs 7 days a week. JLD was born and raised in Maine. He graduated from Providence College on an Army ROTC scholarship in 2002. Upon graduation he was commissioned as an officer in the U.S. Army. After a 13-month tour of duty in Iraq as an Armor Platoon Leader, he completed his service to the U.S. Army and received an honorable discharge in 2010. Upon leaving the U.S. Army, JLD enrolled at Roger Williams University School of Law in Bristol, Rhode Island. Dropping out after one semester, he took a job in corporate finance at John Hancock in Boston. Later, he went to New York City, where he worked for a technology startup until departing to San Diego in 2009 In San Diego, JLD began a career in real estate. Upon a friend's suggestion, he began listening to podcasts in order to pass the time during his long drives. He started listening to NPR, while exploring other shows such as Pat Flynn's Smart Passive Income and Cliff Ravenscraft's Podcast Answer Man. After moving back to Maine in mid-2011 to pursue a career in Commercial Real Estate, Dumas thought of starting a different venture. He realized none of his favorite Podcasts offered daily content. This gave him the idea of starting his own podcast. He developed the concept of a daily podcast that would feature the story of successful entrepreneurs. He named it EOFire, short for Entrepreneur On Fire. EOFire launched September 22, 2012. As his subscribers grew, he published Podcast Launch in the Amazon bookstore. Podcast Launch is a guide of the exact steps he took to launch EOFire. In 2013, JLD launched Podcasters' Paradise, a community of podcasters. JLD hosts a free, live Google Hangout Podcast Workshop as an introduction to podcasting every other week. EOFire has featured several entrepreneurs including Seth Godin, Gary Vaynerchuk, Barbara Corcoran, Tim Ferriss, and Brian Tracy. The show was named Best of iTunes in 2013. EOFire generates 7 figures in revenue annually and JLD continues to openly share his income breakdown in a monthly report on his site, verified by a CPA. In 2016, JLD launched The Freedom Journal, a faux leather-bound journal to help individuals set and accomplish a goal in 100 days. JLD launched The Freedom Journal via a Kickstarter campaign in January 2016, which became one of the most funded publishing campaigns in the history of Kickstarter, with over $350,000 pledged in 33 days. QA 68 – How Do You Explain To Others That You Make Money Online

In today's Q&A, we are helping Hannah understand how we explain to people what we do and how we make money online. Do you have a question you want answered on our podcast? We would love to help you! Click here to ask your question! [Tweet "First they'll ask you why, then they'll ask you how."] Resources Mentioned in this Episode Cliff Ravenscraft - Podcast Answerman Flip Your Life Program (teaching how we did it) Let's dive into this week's question! JOCELYN: Hey y'all! You're listening to a Q&A with S&J. Welcome to the Flipped Lifestyle podcast where life always comes before work. We're your hosts, Shane and Jocelyn Sams. Join us, each week, as we teach you how to flip your lifestyle upside-down by selling stuff online. Are you ready for something different? All right, let's get started. SHANE: Hey guys, welcome back to the Q&A with S&J, we are recording our podcast from 30,000 feet above the Philippines right now; we are about to land, we've managed to record three or four of these for you guys and we're gonna roll them out over time. Always batch your content, we always want to stress, if you got the podcast stuff out, record four of five podcasts. If you got the blogging going, do three or four blog posts and we are batching content right now on the airplane. We are sitting up in business class, it's only a few people around and couple of them are asleep. So we kinda moved seats where nobody can hear us record. We are going to knock out another Q&A today. Today's question comes from Hannah and she asks – this is a great question; she says, “When people ask you guys what you do, what do you say? How do you explain what you do in your small town? How did you explain when you quit your job, what you were about to get into? Do people even get it?” That is an awesome question because every internet marketer that we talked to, whether it's from Pat Flynn to the people in our mastermind groups, it's really hard to explain to people what you do because people are so used to ‘No, I'll go get a job. I work for someone, I trade time for dollars.' And it's a really confusing subject when people start talking about how you make money online. JOCELYN: It's especially hard where we live because we live in a really small town, and what we do is just far off of most people's radar screens. I mean, they don't even know that this world exists. So, a lot of times when we are talking to people, they'll kinda look at us like we have three heads. So, it's very interesting and we have to try to put it in terms they'll understand and so normally I say to people, ‘We sell digital products' and they look at me again like I'm crazy. Then I'll say, you know, ‘like e-books, sort of like Kindle'. Usually people will understand what Kindle is so they can sort of, understand what that means when I put it that way. But it is really hard, and being from a small town when people do understand what we are doing, you know, we have a lot of people who want to meet with us all the time and like, you know – SHANE: Show them how basically. JOCELYN: Yeah, everybody wants to know how we do it and can we show them step-by-step. And you know, we love to talk about this stuff as you know, but it's just really hard because we can't meet everybody for an hour, a week, or a day, or whatever. SHANE: And actually that's exactly why we created Flip Your Life originally because we helped a couple of people around here when we first started out and they had some success and made some money online with some digital products. The word spread, and just so many people kept asking us and there was just no way that we could meet with everybody. And I kinda felt really bad about that at first and got some – I've actually mentioned this before, I got some great advice from Cliff Ravenscraft the Podcast Answer Man, he told me, ‘You know, Shane, you got to do for a few what you wish you could do for many' or you got to reach more people in a diff...
