Welcome to Episode 6 of Roots Music Rambler! Join us – hosts Francesca Folinazzo, who Jason calls “Frank,” and Jason Falls, who goes by “Falls” most of the time, as we explore the real roots of the music we love. On this episode, singer-songwriter Nathan Graham's debut album Saint of Second Chances is out and a breath of fresh air mixing Chicago blues, rock, pop, soul and more. He joined Frank & Falls to talk about his background, family, influences and the new tunes, as well as what he learned from his brief stint on The Voice in 2017. The Chicago native spent several years as a session musician and playing clubs with several bands before friends and family encouraged him to start singing as well. He also found others singing the songs he wrote didn't quite satisfy his need to give birth to the song.  Graham is also on a personal mission to break the stereotype of people of color seldom being labeled a “singer-songwriter” despite performing the same tasks in even the same genres. The three discuss the stereotypes, Graham's parents and their impact on his music, and how Chicago impacted his art. The episode starts with Falls reacting to Jason Isbell's recent criticism of Oliver Anthony's “Rich Men North of Richmond” and offered some pointed criticism of his own.  And the Pickin' the Grinnin' segment features everything from Native American artists to Tears for Fears.  Buckle up for The Hoe-Down and the Throw-Down! With our culture wars at a full rolling boil, apparently all it takes to send our enmity over the edge is…a good old-fashioned country song?? The furor over Jason Aldean's “Try That in A Small Town” (and then there's Oliver Anthony's “Rich Men North of Richmond”) is reminiscent of the old furor over The Dixie Chicks—only the “sides” have switched up.  As The Village Square embarks on a pluralism project to build a hometown where everyone belongs, it's possible that “round here we take care of our own” is a value we should all seek to restore to American civic life, but does it really need to come with all the guns? We'll bring The God Squad into this musical fracas (they dove right into this one in our planning meeting), so that they can do their usual thing and go high instead of the usual low. Can we find a place where perhaps we can tolerate each other and just SING? (Dolly Parton has something to say on that front…) Check out the “Try That In A Small Town” lyrics. And the lyrics to “Rich Men North of Richmond” are here. Joining us for this God Squad are Father Tim Holeda of St. Thomas More Co-Cathedral, Josh Hall of First Baptist Church, Joseph Davis Jr. of Truth Gatherers Community Church, and Rabbi Paul Sidlofsky of Temple Israel. Stefanie Posner of Temple Israel will be facilitating. In this episode I critique a recent episode of Phil Vischer's podcast The Holy Post, in which his co-hosts Skye Jethani and Katlyn Schiess discuss the Christian faith of George W. Bush and Barack Obama. I argue that they dramatically miss the most important aspect of their presidencies, during which both men committed horrendous war crimes. I review the war crimes of Bush and Obama and contrast that record with the casual conversation they had about their faiths. I also critique a conversation that took place on the show about Oliver Anthony's Rich Men North of Richmond, where a nuanced discussion about welfare is collapsed into an unfounded theory of racial ‘dog-whistling' as well as how Oliver's commentary on Jeffery Epstein is dismissed as ‘Q-Anon' adjacent. Both of these claims demonstrate my main point that even when admirably breaking with the right-wing trajectory of American evangelicalism, the commentators on The Holy Post still conform to the parameters of acceptable discourse set by the corporate press and fail to address the most important issues facing our society.  Media Referenced:The Holy Post Episode: https://www.holypost.com/post/579-how-the-bible-is-used-abused-in-politics-with-kaitlyn-schiessScott Horton, Enough Already: Time to End the War on Terror: https://a.co/d/0TVOy5w Laurie Calhoun, We Kill Because We Can: https://a.co/d/0aDohMn Obama Is a War Criminal: https://harvardpolitics.com/obama-war-criminal/ The Intercept Article: https://theintercept.com/2017/01/30/obama-killed-a-16-year-old-american-in-yemen-trump-just-killed-his-8-year-old-sister/ TPLP Episode on the torture programs: https://libertarianchristians.com/episode/against-george-w-bushs-cia-torture-program-roundtable/ Laurie Calhoun on the ‘Just War' Theory: https://libertarianchristians.com/episode/critique-of-the-just-war-theory-laurie-calhoun/The Protestant Libertarian Podcast is a project of the Libertarian Christian Institute and a part of the Christians For Liberty Network. In this episode — stories of small towns, starting with a moral quandary for Stephen in the smallest town of all: the open ocean(?) What would he do if a rogue otter tried to steal his surfboard?  From there we get territorial on two country songs that are topping the charts of the culture war: Jason Aldean's "Try That in a Small Town" and Oliver Anthony's "Rich Men North of Richmond." Both songs are big conservative talking points, but while Aldean's traffics in big-city stereotypes, Anthony's is a folky class commentary, even if its policy positions are a little wonky. Which leads us down a two-lane road to a real exploration of power in small towns: the saga of the Marion County Record, a Kansas newspaper raided by local police for reasons that sound more personal than professional. While the cops had to return what they snatched, the tale shows how small-town stories can have international implications. Stow your surfboard, pull up a stump, and let's jam a bit about class, press freedom, and greedy sea mammals.

If there's one thing we can count on from our brothers and sisters on the left, it's that if they even stumble upon identifying a problem, they will always get the proposed solution wrong. Case in point: Billy Bragg responds to Oliver Anthony's "Rich Men North of Richmond" by blaming every rich person for the working man's plight, cuz reasons, while suggesting that unionizing will fix everything. Anticipating another DC Comics movie flop, and rather than taking any accountability for their shitty writing, Hollywood talking heads suggest you might be racist if you don't go out and support "Blue Bettle" because lack of revenue could reduce the number of Latino actors in future films. The lizard people in Congress try to shame the few good ones among them by bundling more money for Ukraine in the same bill to provide disaster relief for Maui. And, on the back of self-serving actions like that, Chris Christie and his ilk just can't figure out why they are so universally despised.

Donald Trump made history again. Trump just became the first President in U.S. history to have his photo take in a mugshot. In this live episode of The Trish Regan Show, I explain why this mugshot will ultimately backfire as Americans increasingly galvanize around Trump. There's growing evidence that everyday Americans feel 'shut out' of a world they view as controlled by liberal elites. Consider the ratings for Tucker Carlson's interview with Donald Trump versus the ratings for Fox News' Presidential Republican Debate, the meteoric rise of Oliver Anthony's Rich Men North of Richmond, and the backlash against Bud Light and parent company Anheuser-Busch. These are all fresh examples of the peoples' voice being heard. Even Carlos Santana voiced his frustration. There's a reason why Oliver Anthony's "Rich Men North of Richmond" is seeing such worldly success on the musical stage -- it's because he wrote a song that went to the heart and soul of what's ailing freedom-loving individuals. And the left can't stand it. But if you like this song, then you probably like it because you realize it speaks truth, and the truth is that individualism is being blotted out by an evil collectivism. First, they're coming for the culture. Then, they're coming for the politics. Then, they're coming for total regulatory controls on all human activities. Todd Starnes, radio, podcast and TV news host, offers a compelling look at what's taking place in today's culture that's driving this political divisiveness, and offers some hope for a distressed nation.

This leads into a discussion about a recent online debate concerning the relevance of violence in political change and the routing of these natural desires into inert fandoms, leading into a review of the landmark book "The Princes of Yen" by Richard Werner. Here they dissect the explosive growth of the Japanese economy in the 20th century as a product of centrally planned war economics, the power of the Japanese central bank, and the conspiracy within the financial leadership to revolutionize the economy through crisis. Lastly on this edition of The Copepranos Society, Dimes sits across from Dan Baltic, author and host of the New Write podcast, and the two discuss his latest work Nutcrankr, the rising status of dissident fiction, and how literary success can remain uncorrupted from mainstream influences. The Rich Zeoli Show- Full Episode (08/14/2023): 3:05pm- According to estimates, nearly one-hundred people have died as a result of the wildfires in Hawaii—specifically Maui County. Governor Josh Green stated that he expected rescue workers to “find ten to twenty people per day” for the next ten days. The Daily Wire's Zach Jewell writes that evacuations were complicated because “emergency sirens on Maui failed to go off as a devastating wildfire approached residential areas on the island.” You can read the full article here: https://www.dailywire.com/news/no-warning-mauis-emergency-sirens-failed-to-alert-residents-to-approaching-fire-death-toll-climbs-to-80 3:35pm- Lt. Colonel in the Army Reserves & Former U.S. Congresswoman Tulsi Gabbard joins The Rich Zeoli Show from Hawaii to provide updates on the devastating wildfires that have tragically impacted Maui County. Alarmingly, local officials are preventing media members from entering the west-side of Maui—preventing residents from telling their stories and failing to maximize awareness nationally, ultimately exacerbating an already difficult situation. Gabbard emphasizes that the people of Maui are in “dire need of support and resources.” She encourages people to donate at: https://www.salvationarmyusa.org/usn/ or https://samaritanspurse.org/. 4:05pm- Andrew C. McCarthy—Senior Fellow at National Review Institute & Author of “Ball of Collusion: The Plot to Rig an Election and Destroy a Presidency”—joins The Rich Zeoli Show to discuss his latest editorial at National Review, “Hunter Biden Investigation: David Weiss Makes $5 Million Biden-China Scheme Disappear.” McCarthy, a former Assistant United States Attorney for the Southern District of New York, also weighs-in on prosecutors in Fulton County, Georgia accidently publishing charges against former President Donald Trump relating to alleged attempts to overturn the 2020 presidential election results. The charges were promptly deleted from the court's website on Monday—but is it only a matter of time before Trump is officially indicted again? 4:30pm- Listener Andrew calls in from the Philadelphia airport—he had been in Maui, Hawaii where he witnessed firsthand the devastation of the wildfires. He notes that he never received an evacuation notice despite the alarming speed at which the fire was spreading. 4:45pm- While appearing on CNN with Jake Tapper, Senator Mazie Hirono (D-HI) baselessly blamed climate change for the wildfires that have devastated Hawaii. 5:00pm- The Drive at 5: David Wildstein of The New Jersey Globe reports that the NJ Supreme Court concluded that “a parochial school didn't violate New Jersey's discrimination laws when it fired a teacher for not abiding by the teachings of the Catholic Church after learning that she had premarital sex” in a case brought before the state's highest court. You can read the full article here: https://newjerseyglobe.com/judiciary/n-j-top-court-says-catholic-school-can-fire-a-teacher-for-being-unmarried-pregnant/ 5:15pm- During Monday's briefing, White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre said she had nothing to add when asked about U.S. Attorney for the District of Delaware David Weiss being appointed as Special Counsel in the Hunter Biden investigation. 5:25pm- While vacationing in Rehoboth Beach, Delaware, President Joe Biden told reporters “no comment” when asked about the devastating wildfires and rising death toll in Hawaii. 5:45pm- Country music singer Oliver Anthony's “Rich Men North of Richmond” has gone viral on social media—collecting more than 9 million views in five days. 5:55pm- Over the weekend, Vice President Kamala Harris participated in an awkward, cringey interview with MSNBC's Al Sharpton. 6:05pm- While appearing on Meet the Press with Chuck Todd, NBC News Political Analyst Brendan Buck stated that he believes the investigation into Hunter Biden “could damage [President Joe] Biden pretty seriously” in the 2024 presidential election. 6:15pm- While visiting Iowa on Saturday, former President Donald Trump told reporters: “we don't take plea deals because I did nothing wrong.” 6:35pm- Jennifer Stefano—Executive Vice President of the Commonwealth Foundation & Columnist at the Philadelphia Inquirer—joins The Rich Zeoli Show to discuss her latest opinion piece, “Criticism of Kamala Harris Isn't Racist or Sexist. It's Equality.” You can read the full editorial here: https://www.inquirer.com/opinion/commentary/kamala-harris-biden-pennsylvania-campaign-2024-racism-sexism-20230814.html 6:45pm- According to reports, a 30-foot humpback whale has washed up on Fire Island in New York. It's the 18th whale to die on East Coast beaches in 2023. Many environmental experts believe the uptick in deaths is linked to offshore wind development's use of sonar to map the ocean's floor which may prevent whales from communicating with one another while inhibiting accurate navigation.

Chad discusses the recent online “trad wife” trend that's become increasingly popular on social media. Are these women really returning to traditional gender roles, or is this just a new way for grifters to LARP? The Maui blaze is now the deadliest U.S. wildfire in more than 100 years. When asked about the situation, Joe Biden responded, “No comment.” To make matters worse, the president was on vacation when the tragedy occurred. Rightfully so, he's getting trashed for it online. Given that the land that burned in Hawaii has long been sought after by commercial real estate investors, it's hard not to wonder about the situation. Was this simply a tragic wildfire, or is there something else going on? Questions remain about the situation. Oliver Anthony's “Rich Men North of Richmond” went super viral over the last week and has become a blue-collar anthem. Of course, leftwing outlet Rolling Stone took the opportunity to trivialize the viral sensation. It wasn't just the Left. Some people on the Right found ways to nitpick the song's lyrics, trying to interpret messages that simply aren't there. Is it possible to enjoy great art for just being great art? The song is about the pain of everyday people, and that's a message that should resonate with everyone. Video of a group of thugs ransacking a Nordstrom in Topanga is making the rounds on social media, and one has to wonder whether anyone will do anything about it. As long as these people can rob and steal with impunity, they will continue to do so, and our leaders seem not to care. The crazy plane lady, Tiffany Gomas, who went viral, released an apology, and she still has a standing invite to come on the show and explain what she saw. Skittles released new white Skittles with BLM and LGBT messaging on the packaging because everyone looks to candy companies for their morals. An autistic teen in London was arrested for saying a female police officer “looked like her lesbian nana,” which is somehow an arrestable offense in 2023.
