Nate Burke is the Chief Marketing Officer at cybersecurity solution provider Axonius. Axonius is Nate's fifth startup and his third in cybersecurity. He was Axonius' first US employee, starting before they had a product, which allowed him to develop relationships and lean into the "solve, don't sell" mindset that really sets Axonius apart. Nate wanted to join a company that was simply solving a big problem that was getting worse and where he loved the founders. He found his perfect fit at Axonius and is now working to deliver on their promise of "controlling complexity."In this episode, Alan and Nate discuss Nate's approach to marketing to one of the most skeptical audiences ever, cybersecurity professionals, and how Axonius is doing it differently. Axonius tackles one of the most fundamental problems in cybersecurity: understanding what businesses have. They aim to be the system of record for all the digital infrastructure in a company and refuse to use FUD (fear, uncertainty, and doubt) to market to their clients. Although that is the typical cybersecurity marketing play, Nate and Axonius understand that no one likes buying based on fear, so they choose to lean into the novelty of honesty and delivering on their promises to stand out and build trust with their skeptical audience. In addition, they focus on building relationships with collaborators like Olympian Simone Biles and cross-fit athlete Amy Bream to differentiate themselves in the market. In this episode, you'll learn:How to build trust with a skeptical audienceWhat makes a great salesperson? How Axonius is subverting the marketing norms in their industry Key Highlights [01:40] RSA Tattoo Story[04:40] How Nate became CMO at Axonius[06:20] Why Nate left the marketing program in college[09:00] What does Axonius do?[11:40] Why the fundamentals are so complicated[13:00] How to approach marketing to the most skeptical audience[16:00] Where cybersecurity marketers fall short[16:55] The benefits of joining Axonius early[18:00] Solve, don't sell.[21:20] The opposite marketing approach Axonius is taking[23:50] How Simone Biles and Amy Bream embody "controlling complexity"[27:15] The importance of emotional appeal in B2B marketing[29:45] Trust based on integrity[31:15] It's amazing what you can accomplish when you ask for help.[34:05] What AI really means for marketing right now[37:20] Brands to watch[39:05] The opportunity to be unique and honest Resources Mentioned: Nathan “Nate” Burke Axonius Controlling Complexity: Adaptation Campaign Axonius Content Simone Biles Amy Bream Friends of the Children (cause supported by campaign) Brands mentioned: Peloton RSA Conference Hosted on Acast. When was the last time you checked into your self-talk, your thinking? Everything we do, or do not do is driven by a Belief System. Those belief systems are established, and reinforced by our self-talk, those things we say to ourselves, over and over and over. Do you tune into your self-talk, to listen to the conversation? If other people talked to you, like you talk to yourself, would you tolerate it? Can the statement, “I’ve me the enemy, and heshe is living in my shorts”, apply to you? Demons in the Mind-field with Team 225. On today's Podcast of Living Life Like It Matters Mr. Black talks about the battlefield of the mind. We have 30-60,000 thoughts per day. Those thoughts either lift us up, or tear us down. They make us bitter or better. Dr. Viktor Frankl, the Father of Logo Therapy quotes this battle succinctly; “Between the stimulus and the response, there is a space. In that space is our power and our freedom”. We have seen this TRUTH in the news lately. Olympian Simone Biles just showed the world, no matter how gifted, talented, trained up, revved up, we are- the battle is in the mind! Mr. Black will be joined by recent graduates of Leadership Awakening, Team 225 who were victorious in winning the Cognitive battle. We are at war with our past, our pain, our insecurities, and our pride- when we are aware of the battle we can be victorious. Today’s Podcast is titled; Demons in the Mind-field with Team 225. Plus, why on Earth does Kelly Clarkson have to pay her husband $200,000 a MONTH in spousal and child support? And will Brangelina ever actually be divorced? We sing Happy Birthday to Claire! And congratulations to Lady Gaga for winning the Olympic Gold in Taekwondo! (Or not…)

Image courtesy of Laurence Griffiths / Getty Images By now most of us have heard about gymnast and Olympian Simone BIles withdrawal from Olympic competition citing mental health problems. And along those lines, I bet a lot of you heard some of the negative comments and criticism thrown her way calling her weak, immature, and a shame to our country. Over the past 5 years we have seen more and more celebrities come out and admit to their mental health suffering, and that has mattered to the conversation. But Simone Biles, the most decorated athlete and olympian of all time, pulling out of the Olympics because she just couldn't mentally do it is the most significant event in the mental health movement this far. And on today's episode, we talk about why. Image courtesy of Laurence Griffiths / Getty Images
What do author John Mark Comer (author of The Ruthless Elimination of Hurry: How to Stay Emotionally Healthy and Spiritually Alive in the Chaos of the Modern World) and Olympian Simone Biles have in common? They are both inspiration for our conversation today about learning how to have honest conversations about saying no and slowing down in order to maintain mental health, balance, and prioritizing yourself in a world of overcommitment and busyness. We will share our recent decision to renovate how we do Renovate after some honest conversations about the fact that just because we can make it all work, doesn't mean we should. Erica is one of those girls that you look at and think “She must wake up happy! I bet she jumps out of bed and is just naturally incredibly productive and successful.” Well, she is incredibly successful, but what's interesting to learn is that she suffers from anxiety. One of the reasons she latched on to DIY (really coined the term TBH!). Is that it helped relieve her anxiety and depression. Did you know that when you do something active with your hands it physically takes you out of your head? On today's episode we speak about when we first met over 10 years ago in Los Angeles up to when we recently reconnected through the podcast. When I first started BBHBU she slid into my DMs telling me how she has suffered from anxiety her whole life. I was incredibly surprised because she seems like someone who is so together. If anything, what's happened in the last 24 hours with Olympian Simone Biles tells us is that is that all is not always OK. A majority of the time, many over- achievers and success stories are privately at their mental health breaking point. We talk about LA days, Mental DIYs that can help you with your anxiety and what she is working on next! Tune in now…
