Tread Perilously's month of series finales nears the finish line with a look at the final two episodes of The Big Bang Theory -- an ending so epic, it required 12 writers. When Amy and Sheldon win the Nobel Prize, Sheldon's selfishness goes into overdrive. He hurts Amy when she decides to get a haircut and becomes afraid of all the changes coming to his group of friends. But matters only get worse when he forces Penny into revealing her pregnancy; leading to all his friends threatening to bail out of his Nobel Prize acceptance speech. Lessons may or may not be learned as the series draws to a close. In an attempt to avoid talking about The Big Bang Theory, Erik and Justin discuss other towns South Pasadena has played in movies. Erik reiterates his issues with three-camera sitcoms not called One Day At a Time. The films of the Wachowskis are discussed. Erik tries to point out local Pasadena customs the show doesn't quite get right. Erik mistakenly calls Johnny Galecki's character "Luther." Justin tries to compare The Big Bang Theory to comfort food and tries to recall a Latinx Marvel superhero. Raj gets a spotlight; leading to a discussion of assimilation. We promise there are at least a few jokes during the proceedings.

The Mueller Report is here. So now what? Andre's watching season 3 of Mr. Robot and Lisa can't stop smiling about it. What's really going on with the cancellation of One Day At a Time? The Patrick coming out on Schitt's Creek episode was our favorite. Emilia Clarke's harrowing story of dealing with two aneurysms during Game of Thrones makes us love her even more. Terrace House is there just when Lisa needs it. And we're very confused about who actually qualifies for FarmersOnly.com

The star and showrunner of Netflix’s "One Day At a Time" — one of Hollywood's few series starring and led by women of color — talk Hollywood, sexism and the stereotypes they’re tired of hearing about Latinas. It’s a TV show about a Cuban-American single mother who works as a nurse. She’s an Army veteran and her ex-husband is still a contractor overseas. She has post-traumatic stress, depression and anxiety. Her teenage daughter is an out and proud lesbian in a world that isn’t always welcoming. Her son has been bullied by racists who tell him to “go back to Mexico,” even though he’s a third-generation American. Her mother, a devout Catholic and Cuban immigrant, and lives with them in a small apartment in a working-class Los Angeles neighborhood. If you’re among those who read that and think the show isn’t for you, Machado is having none of it. “We get this question a lot, like, ‘What does it have to do with me? Why should I watch it?’” Machado said in an interview for POLITICO’s Women Rule podcast. “And I’m saying personally, I grew up watching white people and I identified with them. And I didn’t have anything in common with ‘Growing Pains.’ I had nothing in common with Kirk Cameron. … They were telling universal stories about family, about love, about all of these things.” “When I wake up in the morning, I don’t think, like, ‘Another day in the life of a Latina!’” chuckled Gloria Calderón Kellett, the series’ co-runner, who joined Machado on the podcast. “You just wake up, and you’re a human and you’re trying to go about your day.” Over its three seasons, “One Day At a Time” has earned a devoted fan following, both for its sharp writing and for its perspective on the world. It’s one of relatively few TV shows in Hollywood both led by and starring women of color (Machado’s mother is portrayed by Rita Moreno, the legendary EGOT winner whose career has spanned from “Singin’ In the Rain” and “West Side Story” to the Netflix series). Having strong women behind the camera makes a difference, too. “Day One of our show, we sit down with our staff and we say, ‘Hey, listen. If you have something — your kid has something at their school, you get to go to that,’” said Calderón Kellett. “‘And for those of you who have chosen not to have children, but your dog or your mom or your best friend is the most important person in the world to you, they have something? You get to go to that. All of you get to live your lives. And we’re going to try very hard to get out of here so that you can have dinner and have a full life outside of this.’ The moment you say that to anybody, they will kill for you.” Having worked a steady career in TV on series like “How I Met Your Mother” and “Rules of Engagement,” Calderón Kellett said she was moved to take the approach because she’s toiled away in so many toxic and unaccommodating male-dominated writers’ rooms. “Here I am in Hollywood, and I’m suffering [because of] a guy who doesn’t want to go home because he doesn’t like his wife and kids, and he wants to hold me hostage here while he’s telling dick jokes,” she said. “The more I would be in rooms where there would be half women, or more and more women, the more that type of misogynistic behavior ended. It would just start to end.”

What we're watching: The psychological thriller You is totally bingeable. It stalled when it was on Lifetime Network, but got new legs on Netflix. One Day At a Time is so good and Rita Moreno is a goddess. Leap Year with Matthew Goode and Amy Adams is a charming delight. Larry Crowne with Tom Hanks and Julia Roberts is amazing too. What do you think? Reach us at @GetYourEyesOn and @helenrac. Thanks for listening!

GamerDude has always been a fan of television and in this episode, he has more stories about the TV shows he grew up with. Television changed in the 1970s, right when GamerDude was at his most impressionable. In addition to explaining how all TV in the 1970s was "appointment TV" because there was no way to record the shows, he talks about the changes in television, from allowing married couples to actually share a bed on television, to the acceptance of "bathroom humor" in All in the Family, to the the "T & A" shows of the '70s, which gave us "Daisy Dukes," Three's Company, and Charlie's Angels. GamerDude also talks about his top five most memorable shows from the '70s: Starsky and Hutch, Charlie's Angels, Fantasy Island, Happy Days and One Day At a Time. As you might expect, two of those choices had everything to do with a young, hormonal teenager falling "in love" with the characters on the shows. To wrap this episode up, GamerDude re-visits his "Five Season Rule" for television series, because he just won't stop talking about it!

Join ReWatchable as we discuss Buffy the Vampire season 6, episode 19, “Seeing Red,” and Angel season 3, episode 19, “The Price.” Superfans: Caitlin and Natalie Newbies: Kristen and Mitch Fun Facts: Mitch is in a FOMO Nintendo mode. Ariana wrapped One Day At a Time this week and is about to start a new job. Natalie has found and actually received a new secondhand vintage house wanker table. Caitlin has had Gage for one year on the day of this recording! But it’s not like he understands that or steak juice. Buffy the Vampire Slayer season 6, episode 19, “Seeing Red”: -Synopsis -Superfans have been dreading this episode since the start of the podcast. -Joss included Amber for the first time in the opening credits in this episode on purpose because he thought it would be “cute.” -The shooting environment for this show sounds so stressful. -This whole echo chamber effect for Joss’ work doesn’t do him any favors. -This episode marked the rise and fall of The Trio. -The inclusion of guns here was an interesting twist in the plot. -We want to like Jonathan, but that’s mostly because he’s played by Danny Strong. -Did any of us see it coming that Andrew had a crush on Warren? -Warren isn’t secure enough in his masculinity to get with Andrew. -The two orbs in a sac OMG. -That’s it, Mitch is going to Pigfarts. -The contrast between Tara and Willow getting back together and the end of this episode is crushing. -Is Dawn gay? Or why is she so excited about the sex happening in her house? -Aaaaand we’re done with anything resembling a fun and pleasant conversation. -Dawn should not have stuck her nose into Spike’s business. -Yeah, trigger warning for this whole episode. -Spike trying to take advantage of Buffy was such a horrific scene. –Natalie’s interview with James Marsters touches more on our thoughts on this horrific scene. -It’s important for show creators to understand that their material doesn’t exist in a vacuum. -Apparently, they didn’t do trigger warnings before content like this when this episode aired. -Why does Xander feel so entitled to Buffy’s attention and apology? -Where was Spike going on his motorcycle at the end? -Filming the rape scene was nowhere near fair for either actor. -There’s no break from the trauma, as Warren waltzes right in with the gun. -This death was not earned, as Tara’s death was used simply as a plot point. -Why is killing the lesbian girlfriend such a troupe? -Is the treating of gay characters like this homophobic? -Ariana’s finally to the point of liking Buffy! -The Trio is no longer the bigger threat, as Evil Willow falls into line. -So it has to mean that Tara’s death sticks because Willow turned evil? -But it’s season 6, so it can only get worse. -Favorite Scenes -Favorite Lines Angel season 6, episode 19, “The Price”: -Synopsis -Cordy is a beautiful light demon, yayyyyy. -The return of Thaumogenesis. -There were some horror movies potentially referenced in this episode. -The Pancakes are still struggling to figure out how to operate without Wes. -Connor is Dawn 2.0. -Natalie’s already apologizing for the misery we’re about to experience. -How about a demon prom, eh? That could be fun? -Groo and Cordy’s days are probably limited. -You never know where Cordy’s hair is going to go next! -Ariana isn’t feeling Cordy as much as before. -Cordelia is rightfully upset that Angel didn’t contact her about Connor. -We want Cordy to feel again. We’re missing out on some important scenes and confrontations from her. -Connor probably has some hell dimension issues. -What was the actual price of this episode? -Favorite Scenes -Favorite Lines Listener Feedback: -Amber Benson (Tara) and Adam Busch (Warren) dated! -Does Warren have a soul? -“Seeing Red” is tough for all of us. -Yeah, why did Cordy never confront Wes? Isabella Gomez was born in Medellin, Colombia where she was raised. She grew up an only child surrounded by older kids and adults, making her an outgoing little girl. Isabella loved to be the center of attention from an early age and would make friends wherever she went, from school to waiting rooms. She was always very assertive so when a 6 year old Isabella told her mom that she wanted to act, her parents knew she meant it. Luckily, her mom Eliana had a close friend that was involved in the industry and through him she started dipping her foot in the commercial world in Colombia. She was in love right away, and her vivacious personality at such a young age caught the eye of those around. From there she was booked to be the host of the launching of a government issued program that focused on providing food for kids in need in the state. At the mere age of 6 she hosted a 2 1/2 hour long ceremony all by herself, shocking the audience and those working with her. She continued to host ceremonies and kept working on commercials. When Isabella was 10 her dad Sergio decided to move to the United States in search of a better life. Once in Orlando, Florida she pushed to finally be put in professional classes so she could further pursue her passion, but the language barrier prevented her from being able to go in right away. Determined to train, Isabella worked on learning English and getting rid of her accent. Soon enough, her mom agreed to enroll her in the little acting studio down the street, the Lisa Maile School. She eventually took almost every course available, all the while forming a strong bond with an administrator there, Loretta Rispoli. She would later make a phone call to close friend Traci Danielle, president and owner of Brevard Talent Group, urging her to give this little newcomer a chance. Soon after Isabella had signed with her very first agent, an agent she still has to this day and considers a close friend. Now with Traci’s help Isabella broke into the commercial industry in the United States, working on projects such as Tobacco Free Florida, Friendly’s, Publix, Universal Studios and so on. After working with a couple different coaches she decided to try a new one her mom recommended, Kia RiddickTaylor. This ended up being a match made in Heaven both in a professional sense and a personal one. Isabella found a new home, a new family and a second mom in her studio. Due to the relaxed, open-minded nature of the class and the people in it she was able to finally fully give herself over to her craft with Ms. Kia guiding her every step of the way. It was with her that Isabella believes she began finding who she was as an actress. With a whole new skill set and a boosted confidence Isabella was sent off to audition for her very first character role in a then new Nickelodeon show called Grachi. The process took about 6 months, a time in which the show was renamed Every Witch Way, and she had made it to test deals and was being flown out to Los Angeles for the final audition. It was everything her and her parents had dreamed off, it seemed as if she had made it. Getting the call that she had in fact not been chosen shattered her. However, instead of wanting to quit, it made her want to get booked even more. She flew to LA and met with a few managers, one of them being Doyle Rice, who her dad took an immediate liking to. However, she chose someone else and secured her first manager. Isabella went on to a Theatre Magnet Program in high school and her freshman year she flew out to LA for 7 weeks so she could partake in her first pilot season. After booking a print for Coke and several callbacks for different shows she landed her first character role, Cristina Sandoval on Matador, Robert Rodriguez’s upcoming show. For about the next year she flew back and forth from Florida to California in order to work on the show and attend school and soon after talks of moving to the City of Angels began. She kept auditioning and training and half way through her sophomore year she got cast as one of the leads in The Illusion by Tony Kushner. The show is set up so the leads play 3 different characters throughout the show and she played Melibea/Isabelle/Hippolyta. She took the challenge head on and after it was over she felt certain she was ready to take the next step in her career. In the summer of 2015 Isabella and her family packed up once again and moved cross-country so she could further pursue her career in acting. Her contract with her previous manager being over, she reconnected with Doyle Rice and signed with him. His style and personality were a much better fit for her and her family, making them more excited and driven than ever. She started training and auditioning again, but she found it difficult to adjust to a new teacher and to being in the room after doing self tapes for so long. The first 6 months of her living there were dry, with just a single callback and an increasing frustration. After the holidays the new year came and Isabella had a long chat with Ms. Kia that reassured her she has the capability to do this. With a new mindset and a new pilot season to focus on she put all her energy and effort into her craft. She booked a little role on Modern Family and continued to audition for other projects and soon after she found herself at a callback standing in front of Norman Lear. He was looking for the daughter in a remake of One Day At a Time, this time with a Cuban-American family. A chemistry read and a few days later she got the call that she had booked the role of Elena Alvarez, who she would play alongside the legendary Rita Moreno as her grandma and the wonderful Justina Machado as her mom. Now the first season is almost done and Isabella has started looking for her next project until the possible season 2 of ODAAT.
New week, new bags! We start things off with Currento Eventos: we’re hoping real hard that Queen Latifah brings back Living Single (I miss my homegirls to my left & right?!), that terrible episode of some European show where Joseph Fiennes plays Michael Jackson has been pulled (maybe there is a god?), we discuss the homelessness crisis in NYC and around the country, and also we’ve killed 70% of the coral reefs of Japan (good job people).
