The pitch: The games would be simple to play and cost no more than $8. The console itself would retail at about $180 with all games being exclusive to the console. In that initial trailer, the Amico was given a release date of October 10, 2020. A year and three delays later, a lot has changed for the Amico.Today in 2021, the console now is available for pre-order for $250-$300, the games can cost as much as $20 and they won't all be exclusives. It would be easier to excuse these changes if the end product seemed exciting enough. But the console's projected specs, Intellivision's shady investment pitches, and the poor behavior of CEO Tommy Tallarico make it hard to get excited about the Amico.Before diving into the nitty-gritty of the console, it's worth knowing about Tommy Tallarico, who has become the face of the Amico. Tallarico purchased the rights to the original Intellivision brand name and all of its classic games in 2018. While you might recognize his name from old episodes of Judgement Day or Electric Playground, Tallarico is primarily known as the creator of a concert series known as Video Games Live. He also composed music for numerous games over the last few decades and created the famous Roblox “oof” noise, though not for Roblox.He's also quick to speak his mind, which often leads to issues. Tommy Tallarico posts on the Atari Age forums, frequently. He replies to folks around a dozen times a day, sometimes more. Many of these posts are what you would expect, but if you dig around more, you'll find some truly bizarre posts. Tommy has insulted critics, reporters, and YouTubers who are critical of the Amico, even calling some of these people “gaming racists” and “mentally unstable.” He also refers to critics as idiots, morons and has told them to return to their “safe spaces” when they won't challenge him in an interview. Tallarico routinely participates in thread wars, arguing with people for hours or days.A great example of Tallarico's odd behavior as CEO came after the Ars Technica report about the publicly archived Amico dev portal and all the specs and info it revealed. Tallarico, in response to the report, insulted the author of the article and threatened legal action in an odd (and now deleted) series of tweets that were saved by Game History Org founder, Frank Cifaldi. Dollar Bar: Dollar Bar formed back in 1998 when Dale Peachey wanted to get a revolving band behind his Guided By Voices and Kurt Vonnegut inspired pop songs. That was the general idea until he got Patrick McCabe, Brendan Rosenstengel and Chris Yates involved, and they’ve stuck together ever since. Well, if you ignore the six years that they were on hiatus. The second coming of Dollar Bar has been very fruitful for the band; since getting back together they’ve released a compilation of old demos, a split cassette with Little Lovers and a sophomore album entitled Paddington Workers Club. The album was released on Brisbane’s Mere Noise records and has lapped up plenty of acclaim over the last 6 months. Recorded by Joshua Watson & Mino Peric. Mixed by Branko Cosic. Recorded at Electric Playground, Apr 4 2014. Stag: Stag were an all-girl sort of post-punk inspired band from around 2010 to 2012. They were only around for a short time but they left their mark all the same. Influenced by 80s pro-feminism art-bands like The Slits (except for their cover of I Heard It Through The Grapevine) and Crass, Stag flipped the bird to dude rock with a live show intensity that has hardly been matched by a great number of their male co-horts around the Brisbane music scene. In 2012 the band released a debut 7” thru Disembraining and broke up not long after. Drea lam and Sarah Byrne went on to form Screaming Match; Julia Norris left for greener pastures in Melbourne and currently plays in Stations; and Katie Martin is one half of the electronic duo Brainbeau. THis episode features another trip down to the Metro Toronto Convention Centre and my third special from Fan Expo 2011 that took place August 25 - 282, 2011. First up I catch up with the Rock Hippo games and talk with Dimitry about thier latest title Brawl Busters. Then it's a chat with Alexander Finbow, Director of Operations at Renegade Arts Entertainment as we talk about the art of making an audio book and the Spine Chillers series narrated by Doug Bradley from the Hellraiser movies. I catch up with the head people at DC Comics, Dan Didio as he returns to the podcast to talk about the New 52 that is coming out and his new title OMAC. From there it's a chat with the new writer of Detective Comics Tony S. Daniel as he talks about taking on the Dark Knight and the future plans for the series. It's all about the video games when I catch up with Victor Lucas, one of the hosts from The Electric Playground as we talk about some upcoming titles and the future of gaming. As a bonus this week I throw in my blu-ray review of Sanctuary The Complete Second Season to get ready for season 3 being released this week.
