David T.'s beautiful son Taylor S. Cole is back to discuss Dept. Q, a Scottish take on a Nordic-noir book series that has the good sense not to mess with star Matthew Goode's face. Chemistry in trope-y scenes, why Scandi crime stories often have a submarine, whether the mystery needed so many episodes to solve -- we're talking about all of that AND recommending actually Nordic Nordic-noir TV if you liked Dept. Q. Then we're going Around The Dial with Mountainhead, The Rehearsal, and The Last Of Us S01 before seeing whether Taylor can do his entire The Studio Canon pitch before we lose the light. True-crime actors won, late night lost some more, and three was the magic number for one of us in Game Time. Throw on a nubbly sweater and join us! GUESTS
Mark and Zanandi talk about the 2013 thriller Stoker. Directed by the legendary Park Chan-wook, and starring Nicole Kidman, Mia Wasikowska, and Matthew Goode, the movie focuses on what happens when a shifty uncle stokes up a bunch of problems for a grieving family. In this episode, they also talk about piano scenes, new shoes, and the overall excellence of Stoker.
In this episode of These Three Things Deborah Thomas is joined by actor Matthew Rhys, who reveals which person, place and treasured possession have made a profound impact on his life and why. Matthew trained at the prestigious RADA and soon after graduating landed a prize role in the Graduate alongside Kathleen Turner in the West End. From there he was cast as Kevin in Brothers and Sisters, Phillip Jennings in the spy drama The Americans, and he appeared alongside Matthew Goode in the Wine Show. We´ll Soon Be Going Home).
In this episode of WN Movie Talk Podcast, I discuss Cemetery Junction (2010), a criminally underrated coming-of-age film written and directed by Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant. Best known for their work on The Office and Extras, Gervais and Merchant took a bold step into feature filmmaking with this poignant yet often hilarious comedy-drama, set against the backdrop of 1970s working-class Britain.I break down the film's exceptional ensemble cast, featuring Christian Cooke, Felicity Jones, Jack Doolan, Tom Hughes, Ralph Fiennes, Emily Watson, and Matthew Goode. With a mix of rising stars and established actors, the film boasts powerhouse performances that bring depth to its themes of youthful ambition, societal expectations, and the struggle to escape small-town life.Beyond the cast, I explore how Cemetery Junction meticulously recreates the look and feel of 1970s Britain—from its soundtrack of era-defining rock classics to its depiction of blue-collar life, rigid class divisions, and changing social attitudes. This isn't just a nostalgic trip down memory lane; it's a film that balances humour and heartbreak in a way that deserves far more recognition than it received upon release. And of course, I reflect on Ricky Gervais' career trajectory—how did Cemetery Junction fit within his body of work? Was it a departure from his usual comedic style, and why did it struggle to find an audience? We also discuss his later projects, from Derek and After Life to his forays into Hollywood filmmaking. If you love hidden gems, British cinema, and coming-of-age films, this episode is a must-listen!

"Freud's Last Session" had its world premiere at the AFI Film Festival, where it received solid reviews for its two central performances. It features Anthony Hopkins, playing Sigmund Freud, who is near death and has one last session with C.S. Lewis, played by Matthew Goode. The two deliver intellectual, powerhouse work in this (mostly) chamber-piece drama. Goode was kind enough to spend some time talking with us about his experience working opposite Hopkins, playing Lewis, and more. Be sure to check out the film, now playing in theaters from Sony Pictures Classics, which is up for your consideration at the 96th Academy Awards in all eligible categories. Thank you, and enjoy! On this episode of the CULTURE POP PODCAST actor Matthew Goode and director Matthew Brown join Sue & me to talk about their new provocative film, FREUD'S LAST SESSION, an imaginary conversation between C.S. Lewis and Sigmund Freud as they debate the existence of God. We discuss adapting a stage play to the screen, how the movie mirrors the world today, the irony of working opposite Anthony Hopkins, who portrayed Goode's character in Richard Attenborough's biographical film, SHADOWLANDS, finding the proper voice for his part, and the backstory on how he landed the role. Plus, the Las Vegas Sphere, murder in a Sin City hotel, skydiving at the tender age of 104, and people we wish we could have talked to before they passed.
Sixty years after the death of C. S. Lewis's, his best known work, The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, is still for many a childhood favourite and it's also the subject of a new literary study. Christianity was central to all of Lewis's his novels, his academic writing and generalist non-fiction. It is also his Christianity that divides his admirers and detractors. This tension lies at the heart of a new film which stages a clash between two ways of thinking, the psychoanalytic and the religious. Freud's Last Session imagines an encounter between Lewis and Freud exploring the clash between their views of human nature and faith. Chris Harding and guests examine how we're still wrestling with the belief and the imagination of C.S. Lewis today.Meg Thomson is the producer of Freud's Last Session, starring Anthony Hopkins as Freud and Matthew Goode as LewisJem Bloomfield is an assistant professor at the University of Nottingham and the the author of a new, literary exploration of Paths in the Snow: A Literary Journey through The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe.Ruth Jackson is co-host of the C.S. This week, in honor of Lydea's recent excursion to Ireland, we're watching Leap Year, starring Amy Adams and Matthew Goode. Anna, a young woman who does not know the meaning of spontaneity, runs off to Ireland to propose to her long-time boyfriend (a cardiologist) on Leap Day. We acknowledge that we probably should have waited for a leap year to review this one, but we are satisfied with our choices. PUBLIC VERSION. International filmmaker Petr Jákl (GHOUL 3-D, KAJINEK) may have begun his film career as a stunt performer and actor in such genre flicks like XXX and ALIEN vs PREDATOR but he actually started out in the Czech Republic as an Olympic Games hopeful in Judo before his dreams were sidelined by an unfortunate injury, thus sending him off on a new adventure in the visual arts. Now, after years in front and behind the camera producing films with the likes of Samuel L Jackson and George Clooney and directing smaller films, Petr has directed his biggest film to date, the epic, sweeping period adventure film MEDIEVAL, based on the true story of fifteenth century Czech Icon and warlord Jan Ziska who battled against the odds during the Holy Roman Empire. Boasting one of the most impressive international casts in a while, including Ben Foster, Matthew Goode, Til Schweiger and THE Michael Caine (!), Petr takes the audience on a historical journey with copious amounts of action, gore and excitement and takes the boys along on his own adventure from Olympic contender to big-budget filmmaker and all the trials and tribulations along the way one can only expect from show business, which can be even bloodier and more harrowing than any skirmish with the Teutonic Order. Petr also discusses how he became inspired by filmmakers while working on-sets, learning what to do (and NOT to do) to create movie magic, working with his father on the script based on a legendary icon in his country, how BRAVEHEART was a major inspiration MEDIEVAL and even his time working with Joe on the found footage film GHOUL 3-D (which at the time was the first 3-D film of its type before being hindered by distribution issues). Also, Dr. Arwen provides "Hollywood Therapy" for a patient in search of a wider audience.

We got a show ya can't refuse...all about THE OFFER series streaming on Paramount +, the behind the scenes take on the making of The Godfather movie. Some iconic characters come to life brilliantly in the show, despite some fast and loose re-telling of the facts. Our good friend Patrick Gallo is a delight as Mario Puzzo, Matthew Goode wears the Robert Evans role like a well-cut suit, and I can't even remember what Francis Ford Coppola really looks like because I can only imagine Dan Fogler. But first we pay tribute to a paisan who broke the mold...Ray Liotta. RIP
One of the best shows on TV right now is THE OFFER on Paramount+.
