Throughout the Middle Ages and the Reformation, a story was told of the first female Pope, who had hidden her sex and been elevated to the highest position within the Church by accident. The story of Pope Joan is a total myth, but even today it serves as a useful lesson to illustrate the historical roots of the sexism and misogyny that still keeps women out of leadership positions. "My line does not illustrate. It is the sensation of its own realization." - Cy Twombly Critics have described the work of consummate scribbler Cy Twombly as at once "barely there" and overly academic, but what about us art civilians? What is it about these half-baked scraps, scratch, and scrawl that speaks to our own creative impulses, our own inner children dying to grab the crayon and crush the tip in an ecstatic series of fat, juicy loopdeloops? Splotches, spills, and stains. They can evoke shapes, moods, energy, even music. Yet no one seemed to appreciate their very beauty with the same intuitive, delicate flair as Helen Frankenthaler, who created something fiercely new "between cocktails and dinner," or, more accurately, between the broad shoulders of a relentlessly masculine movement. John 12:1-2 (NLT)Six days before the Passover celebration began, Jesus arrived in Bethany, the home of Lazarus—the man he had raised from the dead. A dinner was prepared in Jesus' honor. Martha served, and Lazarus was among those who ate with him. John 12:3 (NLT)Then Mary took a twelve-ounce jar of expensive perfume made from essence of nard, and she anointed Jesus' feet with it, wiping his feet with her hair. The house was filled with the fragrance. John 12:4-5 (NLT)But Judas Iscariot, the disciple who would soon betray him, said, “That perfume was worth a year's wages. It should have been sold and the money given to the poor.” John 12:6 (NLT)Not that he cared for the poor—he was a thief, and since he was in charge of the disciples' money, he often stole some for himself. John 12:7-8 (NLT)Jesus replied, “Leave her alone. She did this in preparation for my burial. You will always have the poor among you, but you will not always have me.” John 12:9-11 (NLT)When all the people heard of Jesus' arrival, they flocked to see him and also to see Lazarus, the man Jesus had raised from the dead. Then the leading priests decided to kill Lazarus, too, for it was because of him that many of the people had deserted them and believed in Jesus. John 12:12-13 (NLT)The next day, the news that Jesus was on the way to Jerusalem swept through the city. A large crowd of Passover visitors took palm branches and went down the road to meet him. They shouted, “Praise God! hosanna on the one who comes in the name of the Lord! Hail to the King of Israel!” Mat 21:10-12 (NIV)When Jesus entered Jerusalem, the whole city was stirred and asked, "Who is this?" The crowds answered, "This is Jesus, the prophet from Nazareth in Galilee." Jesus entered the temple area and drove out all who were buying and selling there. He overturned the tables of the money changers and the benches of those selling doves.

Simon Fraser University's Special Collections and Rare Books holds the rich Women and Words Collection, which contains more than one hundred recordings from the Women and Words Conference in 1983, a decade of WestWord writing retreats and workshops, and a number of other readings, meetings, workshops, and events. Although the audio in this collection has a significant paper archive to accompany it, the absence of pre-existing metadata made it difficult to identify the recordings. This episode is framed by how two research assistants, Kandice Sharren and Kate Moffatt, encountered the collection—one physically, in the archive, and the other solely with digitized audio recordings and scanned print materials—and takes us behind the scenes of their work to make sense of both its depths and the Women and Words Society's history.Special thanks to Tony Power, librarian and curator of the Contemporary Literature Collection at Simon Fraser University, and to SFU's Special Collections and Rare Books. In this episode, we visit the Great Barrier Reef to discover the clamorous underwater world of marine life sounds. What can we learn from listening closely to the underwater soundscape? And are there ways we can use sounds to help, rather than harm, the animals in our ocean ecosystems? It turns out, sound is really the dominant sense for animals underwater. For anything further than 10 metres away, marine life uses sound rather than sight to gather information. So human produced noise pollution - whether its construction or shipping vessels - alters ocean animals ability to communicate, mate and even survive. In this season, we first describe the beauty of undersea animal acoustics and then dive into the impact of noise pollution on marine life in China's southern ocean.Guests:Timothy Gordon, University of ExeterSarah Yip, Eco Cheung ChauVisit chinadialogueocean to learn more about our oceans in crisis.Subscribe for Sustainable Asia latest episodes and review us on listennotes.Production credits:Hosts: Marcy Trent Long and Stella Chen Producer: Bonnie AuAssociate producers: Stella Chen, WuYufeiAudio Editor: Avery ChoiIntro/outro music: Alex MauboussinMusic from Blue Dot Sessions (www.sessions.blue):Palms Down, Basketliner and Taoudella

Palms Down; Palms Up Prayer
This episode I share about a way to lay down your burdens, sorrows and things you're carrying and receive from the Lord Jesus!
To some extent we are all Control Freaks. Wanting control is not the issue though its who or what we try control and why that become the issue. Throughout the Bible God has a lot to say about trusting Him, because the true route to happiness is submission, not control. Learn to trust Him more. Palms Down, Palms Up. #wearetheGrove
The Best Life Possible is about following The One who made life in the first place. We only get one chance at this life, why not live the best one possible? Seeing, hearing & doing is all about us becoming someone. God is more concerned with who you are becoming than with what you do. If we are going to follow His lead, we need to learn to surrender.
