With a rich background that includes collaboration with the iconic Jane Goodall, Dr. Bekoff shares his profound insights into the emotional lives of animals and their spiritual connections with humans. We delve into topics such as intuitive interspecies communication, the intrinsic value of all living beings, and how recognizing animals' spiritual experiences can transform public perceptions and policies around animal rights and welfare. Dr. Bekoff discusses the powerful bonds we share with our animal companions and how these relationships can foster deeper understanding and compassion. What we talked about:The spiritual lives of animals: Dr. Bekoff shared his insights into how animals experience what we would consider spiritual moments—a topic he has explored in his essays like "Do Animals Have Spiritual Experiences? (Spoiler: Yes, they do!), and discussed why these emotional lives are so important to understanding animals' intrinsic value.Skepticism from the scientific community: Dr. Bekoff reflected on the skepticism he's faced over the years, particularly from the scientific community. But the tides are shifting—more people are opening their minds to the reality of animal emotions and spirituality.Spirituality and conservation: We also explored how acknowledging the spiritual side of animals can shift the way we approach conservation and animal rights. When Ramona Jarvis's 19 month old daughter Leila was running on and off fevers, she was told by Leila's doctors that these were caused by viruses and that her fevers would go away. Unfortunately that was not the case and during that summer of 2017 , Leila was diagnosed with High Risk Stage 4 Neuroblastoma. After a harrowing regiment of treatments which included 132 days of being an inpatient, Leila was put on a DFMO Clinical Trial at the Arnold Palmer Children's Hospital in November of 2018 which ended in 2020. Today, Leila is 4 years past this Clinical Trial and thankfully is both doing and feeling well.

Dr. Jeffrey Froh is a writer, professor, and fast becoming a leader in the field of positive psychology. He attended St. Joseph's University as an undergrad majoring in sociology and minoring in psychology, that is, until his dad asked him “Jeff, what are you gonna do with a degree in sociology?” After reflecting on this, Dr. Froh recalls answering, “I don't know” to which his dad replied “Well, why don't you major in Psych and minor in Sociology just so you can ‘hang a shingle.'” It was then that Dr. Froh changed his major and began focusing more on psychology. In this podcast, Dr. Froh recalls his academic and professional journey and shares the significant events, experiences, and people who have impacted his life and career. He discusses the reasons why he attended St. John's University in Queens, NY and why he received his graduate degrees in School Psychology. Dr. Froh also shares why he chose the PsyD route versus earning a PhD and explains how it eventually helped him when getting an academic position at Hofstra University. He explains “they were looking for someone with a PsyD” to show students that you can go the academic route instead of the practitioner route. Many people automatically associate PhD with academic and PsyD with practitioner so Dr. Froh was happy to help Hofstra University show that this doesn't have to be the case. During our discussion, he shares how he developed an interest in, and passion for, the rapidly expanding field of positive psychology. Dr. Froh has been teaching at Hofstra University since 2006 and, during this time, he created a Positive Psychology course that is one of the most popular courses in Hofstra's history. He is a Distinguished Teacher of the Year recipient, and he is a New York State certified school psychologist and a licensed psychologist. Dr. Froh is a past Associate Editor for The Journal of Positive Psychology, and he is the Founder and past Clinical Director of the Positive Psychology Institute for Emerging Adults. Dr. Froh provides guidance and advice to those interested in the field of psychology. Among other things, he believes research and clinical experience is crucial for those interested in attending graduate school in psychology. While discussing his career, Dr. Froh admits “every job that I've had, any school psych thing or academic adjunct, whatever, I was able to put the foot in the door was because of a relationship.” He then shares the backstory behind how he got the academic appointment at Hofstra University. He also shares what a typical day looks like as a Professor of Psychology at Hofstra University and reveals that one of the benefits of the job is “you can recreate yourself as a professor, you know, which is one of the beauties of the job.” Dr. Froh explains how he met his wife and how they became co-owners of Positive Psychological Counseling Services, LLC and why, after working so hard to get the practice up and running, he decided to walk away because he thought he was supposed to be doing something else. Dr. Froh explains that the practice, Family Psychology of Long Island in Oakdale (NY), is still up and running and that Dr. Mark Furshpan is running the business and is a phenomenal clinician. Dr. Froh walked away so that he could focus on writing. This led to a discussion of his new book “Thrive: 10 Commandments for 20-Somethings to Live the Best-Life-Possible” and why he wrote it as well as how he used many different sources in the book including Scripture, science, philosophy, Greek mythology, and stories from his clients, students, and personal stories. One unique thing about Dr. Froh that many people may not know is that he loves listening to Christian rap music. In fact, his favorite artist, NF, is actually highlighted in Chapter 5 of his new book. If our outside world is a totall reglection of our inner world, and our inner world is made of our "typical emotional state"....then how do we change that state. At the time of this recording, Ed was a few weeks from turning 64 years YOUNG. Most dads like to say "I'm getting too old" once they hit 40, but that's just a story. If that's what YOU want to believe, you'll GET OLD and you'll definitely start to FEEL OLD. You're as YOUNG as you THINK YOU ARE. It's because when you THINK a certain way, you'll typically LIVE LIFE in accordance to how you think. For guys like Ed, he gets it. Life's too short to let age hold him back. When you MAKE THE TIME to move and train your body, you'll get and keep your body strong… When you MAKE THE TIME to nourish your body with good food, you'll have more energy and you'll feel great… When you MAKE THE TIME for YOURSELF, you'll tend to SHOW UP BETTER for others. Life can be full of excuses if you let it, don't let age be one of them! BIG RESPECT to Ed! He's done nothing else but PUT IN THE WORK AND FOLLOW THE PLAN THAT'S BEEN BUILT FOR HIM. His level of fitness is VERY IMPRESSIVE and it's really not much of a surprise... The DUDE just gets it done! I can't wait to see where he's going to be after another year... Either way, what a great inspiration and example to all of us younger guys on how to be! The future awaits! Start LIVING IT NOW. Leadershipology is a word that Keith coined years ago. The suffix -ology means “the study of,” therefore the word leadershipology means “the study of leadership.” Leadership is choosing a way of thinking, being and doing life that is not common. Living life as a leader is not easy but through daily encouragement and empowerment, I believe that you can continually transform your life by challenging your own thought processes. The purpose of Leadershipology is to help leaders move beyond knowledge into action daily! For 2021 I will be sharing a 5 min 3-5 times a week leadershipology to help you think...be...do leadership in your life - daily. For 5 minutes a day, my goal is to help you have more of an intentional leadership emphasis, so that you can grow in your thought processes as a leader. You can also sign up for FREE daily inspiration at: KeithCraft.org/Leadershipology For more resources and learning opportunities visit: KeithCraft.org and follow Keith on all social platforms @KeithCraft.

Owning a pet means making decisions that affect their health — from what they eat, to whether and how much they exercise, to how they spend their days. Some of those decisions are easy — should we get our yowling cat fixed? — but others are wrenchingly tough — how much is too much for lifesaving surgery? On this episode, we explore some of the emotional, financial, and ethical dilemmas that come with owning a pet. Among the conundrums we explore: Should cats be let outside? When is it OK to crate your dog — and is there science that supports the practice? When do you know that it’s time to let your fur-baby go — and what’s the kindest way to do it? Also heard on this week’s episode: Bioethicist and writer Jessica Pierce weighs in on some of the complicated ethics of owning pets — from whether goldfish and geckos are in solitary confinement, to the humane way of walking dogs. Her latest book is called “Unleashing Your Dog: A Field Guide to Giving Your Canine Companion the Best Life Possible.” We chat with Mariea Ross-Estrada, a veterinarian and professor at North Carolina State University College of Veterinary Medicine, about dos and don’ts for keeping pets.
In this episode, Claudia talks to Marc Bekoff about the field of ‘cognitive ethology' and how researchers can better learn about animals through attentively watching them and taking seriously their personal experiences. They touch on some of the tensions of how you can ‘know' other animals' experiences through and why taking the time to understand their worlds is so important. God wants you to enjoy your Priceless Privilege of the Very Best Life Possible. Because He Knows When You Spend Time with Him you experience a renewed energy and the encouragement of His Presence.Your conversation with God is the way in which you grow closer to Him.You'll be amazed at the incredible insights and wisdom that God reveals to you by His Holy Spirit speaking and testifying with your spirit, (Romans 8:16) as you peacefully pondering His Word. You will soon discover that all things work better, when he is a co-laborer with you giving you the wisdom and power needed to succeed in life. When you realize that the Lord desires for you to come into his presence and use his gifts every day in your life, and the great cost He paid to achieve this freedom. Then you will be all struck that the God of this universe, deeply loves you and desires to have a personal relationship with you.And that's the message that God your Father wants you to know today. He draws you into his presence to talk intimately in a Personal Relationship with Him. (Colossians 1:20-22)Just as the Scripture promises, “For as high as the heavens are above the earth, so great is his love for those who fear him; as far as the east is from the west, so far has he removed our transgressions from us.” ( Psalms 103:11-12)Now, you being IN CHRIST and through faith in him we may approach God with freedom and confidence.Ephesians 3:12 There is therefore now no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus, who do not walk according to the flesh, but according to the Spirit. For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has made me free from the law of sin and death. For what the law could not do in that it was weak through the flesh, God did by sending His own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh, on account of sin: He condemned sin in the flesh,”(Romans 8:1-3)Jesus has done all the work for you. Just accept His Finished work on the cross. God did this to that He might clearly demonstrate through the ages to come the immeasurable riches of His free grace in His kindness and goodness of heart toward us in Christ Jesus. For it is by free grace that you are saved, delivered from judgment and made partakers of Christ's salvation through faith. And this salvation is not of yourself, of your own doing, it came not through your own striving, but it is the gift of God; Not because of your works, lest any man should boast. It is not the result of what anyone can possibly do, so no one can pride himself in it or take glory to himself. Richard Flint has been speaking and changing lives for over 30 years. His staying power comes from a strong following of corporate clients and associations that invite him back year after year. As one of America’s top personal development speakers and coaches, he travels and speaks over 175 times per year and personally coaches businesses and individuals while on the road. Considered a well-guarded secret by many, Richard Flint inspires, teaches, and helps people and companies to transform into their Power To Be, so they can do or have anything they want. Interestingly, he does it without you having to set goals. Richard is on a mission, which he calls a crusade, to help people have their Best Life Possible. He knows how through his own experience. “Smarter is not being the most knowledgeable person. But it's being able to use life's experiences because I think life is just a library of experiences.” Richard Flint Worst investment ever Born into a world where love did not exist Richard was born in New Orleans. He never got to know who his dad is and his birth mother was a prostitute and so he was the result of a one night stand. When he was two weeks old, he was given into a family where the man wanted a son but the wife didn't want him. She found every opportunity to prove to him that he was unloved, unwanted. From when he was six, he would repeatedly tell him that he was the stupidest kid she’d ever met, that he was never going to amount to anything in life and that she was sorry they adopted him. Out in the cold alone at a tender age When he was 15 his adoptive mother told him that he had to get a job and pay room and board to live in her house. A year later, at 16, she threw him out. He was working at an IGA grocery store in Ardmore, Oklahoma, when his dad brought him his suitcase and informed him that his mother had decided, Richard could no longer live in her house. Defeated, Richard walked into downtown Ardmore, Oklahoma and checked into hotel Ardmore. The staff looked at him funny but he had the cash to pay for the room. To live or to die? When he walked into his room on the seventh floor, he walked straight to the window. He didn’t even turn the light on. He sat on the ledge and for three hours he tried to decide whether to live or die. After three hours, he figured out on that ledge that if he jumped his adoptive mother would win and he wasn't going to give that lady that kind of victory. Richard called his best friend’s dad who helped him decide the next course of his life. He decided he was never going back home. So he helped him find a room with a lady who was the editor of The Daily newspaper in Ardmore, he paid her $5 a week to live in her house. Facing his fears head-on After some years Richard realized that he had believed all the things that his adoptive mother had told him. His worst investment was accepting what his mother said as truth because parents don't lie. This held him back from his true success. Eventually, he decided to confront his adoptive mom because the more he refused to confront her the more he validated her. He was extremely afraid of doing it but he chose to face his fears. He never got to talk to his mom because she couldn’t face him but he made peace with his past and it’s all behind him now. Lessons learned Not everyone who says they love you loves you Don’t believe everyone who says they love you and want the best for you. Observe their behavior because behavior never lies. Hear everything people say to you, but study what they do because trust is built on behavior. The greatest strength you have is your belief Trust and have faith in yourself because that's what allows you to be an original and not a carbon copy. Don't be fearful of today Living and hiding in yesterday makes you fearful of today. When you bring the fear of yesterday to today, you don't have today but an extension of yesterday. So let go of and face your fears from yesterday so that you can enjoy the freedom of today. Stay in tune with what God wants for your life Everyone has a story. You either use your story to justify your fears or to free yourself from it. You use your story to either blame others or to hold them accountable. Andrew’s takeaways Your past struggles shape, what you share with the world Richard had a truly painful story of his youth. But he took that painful story and used it to shape what he is sharing with the world today. That makes him authentic. When you’re truly authentic to your struggles and to the things that shape you, you get tremendous value. Learn how to face your fears head-on and turn them into a positive There are chances that you cannot escape the thing that you fear the most in your life. This fear is going to affect the rest of your life either negatively or positively. What will determine whether this fear will affect you positively or negatively is your ability to find it, face it, and control it. Once you face it, just as Richard faced his mom, the fear disappears. So know how to confront your fears. Actionable advice Before you make any decision in your life, no matter what it is, take a deep breath. Why? Because it slows you down emotionally. Then ask yourself if that decision will feed your confusion or strengthen your clarity. No. 1 goal for the next 12 months Richard’s number one desire for the next 12 months is to finish the two books he’s working on right now. The two books are going to be titled So What's Your Excuse?, and I'm Sorry, I Didn't Mean to Pee on You. Parting words “Strengthen your belief, your trust and your faith in yourself and you will overcome the limits that you self imposed on yourself.” Richard Flint Andrew’s books How to Start Building Your Wealth Investing in the Stock Market My Worst Investment Ever 9 Valuation Mistakes and How to Avoid Them Transform Your Business with Dr. Deming’s 14 Points Andrew’s online programs Valuation Master Class Women Building Wealth The Build Your Wealth Membership Group Become a Great Presenter and Increase Your Influence Transform Your Business with Dr. Deming’s 14 Points Connect with Richard Flint LinkedIn Twitter Facebook Instagram YouTube Website Connect with Andrew Stotz astotz.com LinkedIn Facebook Instagram Twitter YouTube My Worst Investment Ever Podcast Further reading mentioned Richard Flint (2008), Behavior Never Lies: 8 Ways to Create Consistency Between What One Says and What One Does

Dogs didn't come into my life until they became my first “grandchildren.” I was used to cats, but large dogs were a new experience for me. As I learned more about dogs and started relating to them as individuals, I developed loving and meaningful relationships with each of them. On a recent visit, I was calling for my daughter when their dog came up behind me, gently pushed me to get my attention, then turned around and led me to a closed door. My daughter was behind the door. Before I knew that this dog speaks to me through body language, I might have thought she was pushing me or poking her nose in personal areas. Not now, though. My automatic response was to turn around and follow her. To provide the best life for our dogs, we need to know the truth about their needs and behavior. Here are just a few myths that we will dispel: dogs love us unconditionally; we are dogs' best friends; and all dogs need is a bed and food. Please join us Thursday to learn the truth about dogs.
