Not at horror franchises are built the same, and Phantasm is pretty hit or miss as a rule, but you really have to hand it to Don Coscarelli for doing what he wants, how he wants, regardless of how absurd Reggie Bannister gets or how much studio meddling he has to deal with to make his movies. PHANTASM III: LORD OF THE DEAD (1993) picks up right where its predecessor leaves off but somehow makes even less sense than the original film. While the plot may be inscrutable and most of the acting atrocious, there's a lot of charm in PHANTASM III as well as a lot of yellow mustard, so you know we had a good time watching and discussing regardless of how much headscratching occurred throughout. Boy! We're going back into the world of Phantasm with Phantasm 3.
After the action / horror direction Phantasm 2 veered towards, "Lord of the Dead" feels like a return to the nightmarish atmosphere of the first one. This one reunites the original performers as well, as Michael Baldwin and Bill Thornberry return to the Phantasm fold. We discuss their return along with the addition of fan favorites Rocky and Tim. We're joined by Ari Hellraiser of Ghouls magazine for Phantasm III.

You voted! We listened! Nick cheered! Jake grumbled! Eric flipped a table! For our eleventh episode, each of our hosts picked a movie franchise for contention and let twitter decide the winner. Nick's candidate was Phantasm, Jake's pick was Final Destination and Eric's was Species. Phantasm won by a wide margin, so in this episode we cover all five movies in the franchise. And appropriately enough for a series that often focuses on the relationship between two brothers, Jacob's brother Jeremiah (of ComicsComicsComics.blog) came along for the ride on the first two movies! Topics range from the inspiration for the original movie, tales of sibling trauma including piledrivers and lost shoes, the Tall Man's potential sports prowess, proper leg positioning and much much more. This series was a blast to watch and we hope you enjoy the episode! Thanks for listening!
