Liam's Map is the sire of Grade 1 winners Basin, Hopeful S. (G1) and Arkansas Derby (G1), Colonel Liam, back-to-back editions of thePegasus World Cup Turf (G1) and Turf Classic S. (G1), Wicked Whisper, Frizette S. (G1) and Juju's Map, Alcibiades S. (G1).Not only do these top-level successes rank Liam's Map among the best young sires, it puts him alongside some of America's top stallions in history. Both Basin and Wicked Whisper hail from the first-crop of Liam's Map and since 1983, just eight other first-crop stallions have sired two Grade 1 winners, with only Danzig and Uncle Mo having sired both Grade 1 fillies and colts. An elite group of just five other stallions have sired winners of both the G1 Frizette and the G1 Hopeful—A.P. Indy, Storm Cat, Mr. Prospector, Bold Ruler, and Nasrullah. His success continued in 2024 with MGSWs Roses for Debra, Deterministic and Starting Over. Roses for Debra went on to top the Keeneland November Sale selling for $2,400,000. He saw 40 $150,000+ yearling sales, with a top price of $700,000.An $800,000 Keeneland September yearling, Liam's Map is out of the stakes-winning Trippi mare Miss Macy Sue, and is a half-brother to graded winner Not This Time and black-type winner Taylor S. Liam's Map's pedigree carries only one cross of Northern Dancer in the sixth generation, so his pedigree will be an ideal outcross for mares inbred to Northern Dancer. Since Liam's Map's pedigree largely consists of horses bred by or based on pedigrees of horses bred by John Nerud, it should also be beneficial to emphasize female families associated with Nerud other than Aspidistra.(UPDATED FEB 1, 2025)
Horse of the Year Mineshaft is the sire of two Champions, seven Grade 1 winners and 23 graded stakes winners. His winners include Weep No More (G1), Effinex (G1), Bitumen (G3), Suddenbreakingnews (G3), J Boys Echo (G3). He is a full sibling to G1 winner Tomisue's Delight and hails from an exceptionally deep female family which includes G1 winners Mr. Sidney, Flagbird, Little Belle, and Runup The Colors.Mineshaft is out of a mare by Mr. Prospector, but has sired 11 stakes winners out of Mr. Prospector line mares and multiple stakes winners from the Damascus line. A.P. Indy has also done extremely well over mares descending from Northern Dancer.(UPDATED FEB 1, 2025)
Twirling Candy is following in his father's legendary footsteps at Lane's End Farm. A son of Candy Ride (Arg), Twirling Candy has sired 21 graded stakes winners, seven millionaires, and nine Grade 1 winners. In 2024, he added new G1 winner Iscreamuscream, winner of the Del Mar Oaks (G1) and the San Clemente H. (G2). This success on the track was reflected in the sales ring. His yearling average increased to $160,064 and had seven-figure yearling and two-year-old sales.Twirling Candy is out of the Chester House mare House of Danzig, making him a half-sibling to G2 winner Ethnic Dance. Multiple Champion Affirmed can be found farther down his page. Candy Ride has already shown a remarkable affinity for the Storm Cat branch of the Northern Dancer line. Other branches of the Northern Dancer line to provide the dams of Candy Ride stakes winners are Sadler's Wells (sire of El Prado; grandsire of Medaglia d'Oro and Kitten's Joy), Nureyev (from a mare by Theatrical), Danzig and Dixieland Band. Candy Ride has found success with a wide variety of mares by stallions that descend from the Nasrullah line, with three stakes winners from mares by In Excess, as well as stakes winners out of mares by In Excess's son, Indian Charlie, and Cozzene. Candy Ride is out of a Mr. Prospector-line mare, and Twirling Candy should cross well over mares from that line.(UPDATED FEB 1, 2025)

Across Europe, we've been cooking with iron pans since the 1600s (the Chinese were using them 1,000 years before that), but they fell out of favour after the invention of ‘non-stick' chemicals. Now, following studies suggesting some of those chemicals may be bad for our health, iron pans are returning to our stoves. The UK market is currently estimated to be growing at almost 10% year-on-year. On this week's The Factory Next Door, we head to Shropshire to meet the team crafting the iron pans that celebrity chefs and Michelin star restaurateurs seek out. Number 28 on our list of the greatest products we make in Britain is The Prospector Pan by Netherton Foundry. Founder Neil Currie shows us the beauty of spinning iron, explains his love of industrial design, and reveals why he once called home to ask his family to throw out all their cooking pans. Also on the show, we celebrate the versatility of flaxseed oil, recognise the power of local provenience, and hear about exporting woks to China. Have you ever been to The Prospector? It's a movie theater in Ridgefield—a special place for more than one reason. In addition to showing all the current movies (and some great ones from the past, too!), it is also known for employing people with disabilities. Host Brigitte Quinn got Monday's Newsline started by talking with Executive Director Ryan Wenke about the theater, its great history, and how it evolved into hiring those with disabilities (00:00). Also joining the show was Stamford Advocate reporter Brianna Gurciullo of Hearst Media on a story in Stamford last week where voters received postcards directing them to the wrong polling locations (16:28)

The right board involvement can demystify fundraising, turning what might seem like a daunting task into a more manageable and impactful team effort. From this lively session, expect to learn a lot about the sometimes complicated, yet critical, role of engaging nonprofit boards in fundraising, with cohosts Julia Patrick and Tony Beall. This discussion revolves around the vital understanding that fundraising is a "team sport," as Tony aptly puts it. Together, they focus on the theme that board members play a significant role in an organization's ability to secure and sustain funds, but often, there's confusion about what fundraising truly is—and what it's not.Julia strikes the early tone by sharing her personal reflections on her decades-long involvement in community fundraising and board service, describing how much she could have done differently with the right knowledge. She says, "I looked at the different decades of my life and what I could have done better, and what I did well.", reflecting the importance of continuous learning for board members to become more effective in their roles.Tony builds on this as they go on, explaining that while many board members feel a fear of fundraising, they can still significantly contribute by playing roles that don't involve the daunting task of asking for money. He introduces four key roles board members can adopt: the Prospector, the Cultivator, the Solicitor, and the Steward. "You can support your organization from the launching pad to landing," Tony says, which shows the flexibility in how board members can engage in the fundraising process.Tony goes on to highlight the value of board members engaging as ‘Stewards'. “It just says a lot when a volunteer who has the highest level of accountability for the organization is taking the time to call you or send you a card," he says. . . . .showcasing the power of gratitude and personal connection in fostering donor loyalty.Find us Live daily on YouTube!Find us Live daily on LinkedIn!Find us Live daily on X: @Nonprofit_ShowOur national co-hosts and amazing guests discuss management, money and missions of nonprofits! 12:30pm ET 11:30am CT 10:30am MT 9:30am PTSend us your ideas for Show Guests or Topics: HelpDesk@AmericanNonprofitAcademy.comVisit us on the web:The Nonprofit Show

It's Friday, May 10th, A.D. 2024. This is The Worldview in 5 Minutes heard at www.TheWorldview.com. I'm Adam McManus. (Adam@TheWorldview.com) By Adam McManus Muslims attacked praying Catholic students On Sunday, May 5th, two young women were slightly wounded when a mob of Muslims assaulted a group of 15 Catholic students who were praying at a rented house in Banten Province, on the Indonesian island of Java, reports Morning Star News. Enraged at the Catholic group praying in a home rather than in a church building, the local neighborhood head incited area Muslims to break up the meeting and injure the two female students in a suburb of Jakarta at about 7:30 p.m. Some of the assailants were reportedly armed with long machetes, sickles, knives, and blocks. One of the young women suffered a slight wound near her nose while another sustained a minor wound in the stomach, in spite of efforts by some local Muslims to protect them. The conflict began when the leader, identified as Diding, peeped into the house where the students were praying, and then intruded in, confronting the students for prayer, and ultimately dispersing them. Chicago Teachers Union demanding abortion coverage, gender-neutral bathrooms The Chicago Teachers Union is demanding $50 billion in its contract negotiations to pay for a 9% wage increase, abortions, illegal immigrant services and "gender-neutral bathrooms" for every school district, according to leaked documents, reports The Christian Post. Earlier this year, local news outlet WLS reported that Chicago teachers requested $2,000 for each of the 5,000 illegal immigrant students recently enrolled in the district, including more bilingual teachers and full tuition coverage for teachers to obtain a bilingual certificate. The list of demands also included a series of sexual perversion provisions, with the Chicago Teachers Union calling for every school in the district to have at least one "gender-neutral restroom" and annual homosexual/transgender training for educators. No wonder the number of homeschooled children continues to skyrocket. Student newspaper: "Hitler's got some good ideas." The student newspaper at McClatchy High School in Sacramento, California is facing a big time controversy. The Prospector student newspaper published an anonymous quote in the most recent edition praising Adolf Hitler. A student said, “Hitler's got some good ideas.” It was part of a story about “weird things” overheard in the school's hallways, reports CBS News. The student staff later posted a statement saying the quote did not reflect their ideals or beliefs. But they were glad it sparked a conversation on how students choose their words. The principal fired off a message to families saying the newspaper's actions were “deeply offensive.” And the newspaper's faculty adviser has been placed on paid leave, which angered journalists across the state. Steve O'Donoghue, director of the California Scholastic Journalism Initiative, said, “They have the right to print it. They're not advocating for it, they're just quoting what a student said.” Christian talk show host Todd Starnes wrote, “It's worth noting that a recent survey showed that 63 percent of Millennials and Generation Z did not know that 6 million Jews were killed in the Holocaust. That's what happens when public schools whitewash history. The kids are ignorant of great atrocities in world history and the next thing you know – the McClatchy High School student newspaper is singing Hitler's praises.” Ultra-processed food leads to weight gain, heart issues, & depression Research published in The British Medical Journal shows that eating a lot of ultra-processed foods such as sugary cereals, frozen meals, and sodas has been linked to poor mental health and a greater risk of dying from heart issues, reports The Telegraph. Ultra-processed foods are usually higher in fat, sugar and salt and contain chemicals, colorings, sweeteners and preservatives that extend shelf life. And thanks to Dr. Chris van Tulleken, author of the bestselling book Ultra-Processed People: The Science Behind Food That Isn't Food, it's a term now popping up everywhere. Dr. van Tulleken explains that ultra-processed foods are not only “high-fat, high-salt and high-sugar, but these ingredients have been combined into industrial products with exotic additives, which can't really be described as food. They're ultra-processed foods, a set of edible substances that are addictive for many and which are now linked to weight gain, early death and, yes – depression.” In 1 Corinthians 6:19-20, the Apostle Paul asked, “Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, Who is in you, Whom you have received from God? You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore, honor God with your bodies.” Hero saves 11-month-old baby from blazing fire And finally, an Ohio man is being hailed a hero after risking his life to save an 11-month-old baby trapped inside a burning home, reports FaithWire.com. John Stickovich, age 62, was on his way to work at the time and jumped out of the car after he saw smoke billowing out from a house. STICKOVICH: “The mother was sitting on the tree lawn with her one baby. I asked her if she was all right and she said, ‘My baby is still in the house.'” He told WJW-TV that he repeatedly went inside the house to try to find the baby in the haze of smoke and fire. Emergency workers were not yet on the scene, so he acted fast. He crawled through an open door into the kitchen and started searching for the child. At first, Stickovich couldn't find the baby, so he went back outside to ask the mother for guidance. STICKOVICH: “Came back out, asked her where the baby way. She told me: ‘Next to the kitchen, by the baby gate.'” Then, he bravely entered the inferno once again. STICKOVICH: “It was getting so bad in there, I was getting ready to leave actually. And then the baby cried or made a sound. You know, I'm thinking to myself: ‘The baby is right here.” So, I just lurched forward and my arm went across his leg, I grabbed him by the leg, and we were both out.” Firefighters, who said the home was fully engulfed in the inferno by the time they arrived, are now dubbing Stickovich a hero and crediting him for saving the baby's life. The man was simply grateful he was able to assist. STICKOVICH: “I feel wonderful that I could save the baby. That mother doesn't have to mourn her baby. That baby gets to live today. I mean I would do it for anybody — it doesn't matter. And I would hope that somebody would do it for me.” John 15:13 says, “Greater love has no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.” Or, in this case, for a complete stranger who happens to be 11 months old.
