Women often find it difficult to make time for themselves and to explore the things they enjoy. On the podcast today, mindfulness and wellness expert Randi Zinn offers refreshing insight into how to let our natural inclinations guide us and why it is important to do this. As a result of her diverse life experiences, Randi is able to connect with and understand others, and she shares what she knows with us today. Randi notes that since we are products of a patriarchal society, we have to start small and not expect to transform ourselves overnight. As well as working with individuals, Randi enjoys group work because she believes community is incredibly powerful. Sharing our stories with one another can be very healing and it can effectively combat the noise associated with being human. Randi notes that letting people know they matter and are safe is a gift. Initially, Randi's work focused on women who had just become moms, but she soon realized that the need for self-discovery and living authentically applied to most women, so she now serves all women who desire more abundance. During this conversation, Randi discusses her own unique journey connecting with her authenticity, how she began this work, and what she has seen women struggle with most. She also shares some tips on how to overcome negative self-talk and self-perception. Randi shares several nuggets of wisdom in this episode, and you won't want to miss it. Key Highlights: How do we make time for play, joy, and creativity, and why do we need to do it? How we as women are taught not to choose ourselves and to put ourselves last How Randi defines prioritizing yourself, some exercises we can try, and why it is important. The power of authenticity, honesty, and love Even when we are good at what we do, things don't always work out How Randi started working with women around authenticity Slowing down, rejecting failure, and looking inwards What Randi is doing to reconnect with her personal brand and become more authentic In the absence of the resources to pause work, what do people do? Using your voice and giving yourself permission to be imperfect Episode Quotes: You become a part of the circle when you let yourself in. - Randi I have to be comfortable with disappointing people if I'm doing something that I know I need to do. - Randi Anytime I share something that is authentic and I think I shouldn't or I think it's going to impact me in a negative way, just the opposite happens. - Molly Connect with Randi Zinn Instagram: @randizinn Sign up for Randi's newsletters or get one of her meditations for free: goingbeyondmovement.com Get Randi's book: Going Beyond Mom- How to Activate Your Mind, Body & Business After Baby I'm FULLY committed to having you stay LIGHT and AFLOAT during the Bermuda Triangle aka Holiday Season! As we're all experiencing a challenging time, one of the things we all need is a sense of hope and a reminder of the power of positive thinking. Many of you may be aware of my experience with the challenges of infertility, pregnancy, loss, and then the birth of my daughter, Mollie Hope. Today, in a special episode, I share the full story in a conversation with Randi Zinn, founder of Beyond Mom and host of the Going Beyond podcast In this episode, I sit down with Randi to share my fertility story. I talk about how, early on, I knew I wanted to be a mom. I discuss the different diagnoses I received throughout my journey, and I talk about the importance of treating the conditions that inhibit your fertility instead of simply trying to work around them. I talk about how sharing my story on social media empowered me and helped me to connect with an amazing support system, without which Mollie wouldn't have made it. I note the importance of listening to your intuition, and I share the experience of the surgery I underwent to try to save both of my babies. I share the story of how Mollie was finally born, and I talk about the mentality of asking how I can turn every trial into something positive. “If there's a way to help other people through my experience and my journey, that's all I want to do.” - Stephanie Cartin This week on SocialFly's Entreprenista Podcast: Stephanie's experiences with different reproductive doctorsThe problem of putting business before people in the medical professionHow sharing her story through social media empowered Stephanie and helped her connect with people who walked her through her journeyListening to your intuitionFinding your voiceThe power of social mediaThe peace that comes from knowing you've done all you couldTurning trials into positivesThe power of women banding together Resources mentioned DigiCardsThe Going Beyond Movement Say “Hello!” To DigiCards™ Are you ready to take your virtual team meetings to the next level? Welcome back to BeREAL! This week, Diana and Ednesha are joined by Diana Limongi to discuss post election fatigue, pandemic exhaustion, and parenting during COVID. Diana Limongi is a bilingual nonprofit professional, blogger, activist, podcaster and Latina mom. On her blog she writes about motherhood, life in NYC and raising bilingual and multicultural kids. Her podcast, Parenting and Politics, seeks to inform, inspire and empower parents to take action and make a difference. As a nonprofit professional and activist, Diana has experience in digital content creation and organizing, working with organizations that help mothers, children and families. She has worked with the Aspen Institute, ZERO TO THREE, ParentsTogether, Global Kids, MomsRising/MamasConPoder and was a UN Shot@Life Champion. Diana (from BeWELL) and Ednesha begin the episode by discussing the recent fatigue they have been feeling. This is a culmination of post election fatigue as well as exhaustion due to the long lasting COVID-19 pandemic. They discuss how seasonal affective disorder will only build on this as we enter the winter months. They also discuss how normally they don't disclose much about their current mood or mental health situation to patients, but during these times they find themselves being more candid than before. Diana Limongi joins in the episode and begins by telling the hosts about how her life is going during quarantine. She quickly moves into talking about the 2020 election. She talks about the work that she did through donations and social media campaigns to spread knowledge about the different choices on the ballots. She advises parents how to manage their time if they would like to contribute to a political campaign, but might see it as too big of a commitment with their kids doing school from home. Diana (the host) brings up how voting is hard and the election fatigue she faced since she realized she was voting in New Jersey for the first time. Diana Limongi agrees that voting is complex, and shares some resources for people to get more informed about their local politics. As the episode winds down, Limongi brings the focus of the conversation to the Department of Education. She outlines the issues she is seeing in regards to the DOE's reaction to COVID and how many of it's last minute decisions are inducing anxiety within parents. While voicing favorable solutions to the situations she is facing, Diana also offers some advice to parents of how to practice self care during these times. Thank you for tuning into BeREAL this week! Be on the lookout for an all new episode next Tuesday. Welcome back to BeREAL! This week we have something special: it's our first minisode! In these minisodes, our therapists will have a roundtable discussion about a certain topic of the week. This week, join Diana, Ednesha, and Gillian Lichter (BeWELL Psychotherapy's very own) to discuss the idea of identity crisis. They will cover how identity changes as one's life changes and how identity changes due to factors outside one's control, such as a pandemic. Gillian begins the episode by giving a little background on her work as a psychotherapist. She explains how she initially worked with a LGBTQIA+ focused non-profit therapy center in NYC, but now she works at BeWELL (which she joined right at the onset of the pandemic). Gillian is here this week to talk about the topic of identity crisis. She defines identity as the recognition of our own selves at each stage of our lives. Of course with time, identity changes and Diana calls these changes cracks in identity. These identity cracks are not a negative thing, they do not mean that someone is broken or lost, rather they have to learn to recognize these identity changes and understand how and why they occurred. The conversation shifts to focus on identity changes during the pandemic. As careers and social lives change drastically, it is inevitable that identity will change as well. Ednesha focuses on the American concept of identity that is so closely tied to the workplace. Many people will judge their self worth on a job title, or if they hold a job at the given moment (which is much less likely during a pandemic). Ednehsa pushes forward an idea to discover identity outside of the workplace. This closely ties to her understanding that women of color have been taught that they must remain strong at all times. Strength is hard to muster as the pandemic drags on, but Ednesha and Gillian want people to know that not being strong all the time, should not mean that one values themself as lesser. Instead, Gillian suggests that there is a strength in taking care of your physical and mental health when necessary. Thank you for tuning into BeREAL this week. Make sure to be on the lookout for an all new episode next Tuesday. In the meantime, make sure to listen to last week's episode with Randi Zinn on the Going Beyond Movement. From here it expanded and evolved into an empowerment movement for all women. She explains how this is inclusive of women of all backgrounds and how she herself is still learning how to make the space the most comfortable for women of color. She summarizes the philosophy of the project to be, “Your life is the movement the world needs of you.” Ednesha offers a personal account of the ways that she tries “going beyond” daily. She tells the women how she would like to go beyond the black pain that is deeply ingrained with the black experience. In order to do this, she pledges to herself that she will have joy in her life. Randi uses Ednesha's story as a way to highlight the mission of her movement. She hopes that followers will has experiences similar to her own, that they will have a head to head journey with their pain. The discomfort that this will inevitably create opens the door to the next, better place of one's life. Randi finished the episode by detailing the logistics of the movement. She elaborates on the events that she would host, retreats and live podcast recordings, pre-COVID. She also delves into her work as a wellness mentor and who her ideal client is, as well as what they can expect to get out of sessions with her. #120 — Beyond Mom: Exploring and Nourishing Our Non-Mother Selves What does it look like to take your work from the corporate world to the freelance world and begin the path of entrepreneurship? How do you take the piecemeal career acquired from many different projects, companies and job-hopping and then go into starting a business? One of the things that I am fascinated with here at Startup Pregnant is the idea that we are in perpetual startup mode in many senses of the word: in our own lives, in our own careers, in our own journeys. We don’t just pick corporate versus entrepreneurship. That is a false dichotomy. Instead, I find that people end up with these really interesting layered careers where they follow projects or purposes or people and they embed their time and their energy in these various different projects whether or not it looks like a traditional tried and true company, or it looks like building a new endeavor on the side as a branch of a company, becoming an entrepreneur, starting a new initiative or starting a freelancing or side hustle career or even starting a company on your own. Today, we talk to Randi Zinn, who is the founder of Beyond Mom. Randi lost her father when she 25, which affected her emotionally, philosophically, psychology, and also, it set her on a new career path. Her dad was an entrepreneur, and while she thought that she would be going straight from graduate school into a world of media, she ended up on a slightly different path. Randi is an author, a wellness expert and the founder of a site, company, blog and suite of tools called Beyond Mom. Beyond Mom is a company that provides things like wellness retreats, mindfulness at work, encouragement for women an overall philosophy and ethos supporting women interested in taking back their right to self-love, self-care and community. Randi encourages moms to cultivate a life beyond mom, one that embraces the gifts of motherhood, but expresses all that they are as individuals. IN THIS EPISODE WE TALK ABOUT How Randi’s first pregnancy ended in miscarriage but going through a loss with her husband brought them closer together. How as an only child herself, Randi loves to learn about the sibling relationship by watching her son and daughter together. The way the loss of her father impacted her career trajectory, leading her away from a traditional path in media to following in her entrepreneurial father’s footsteps. How yoga entered her life as a stress mediator through this process, but that once she was a mother, teaching and “schlepping” from studio to studio became untenable. Her surprise at meeting other mothers who were using their transformation into mothers to gain momentum in changing their career paths as well. The organic origins of Beyond Mom and how by spending time with and serving her ideal customer, Randi was able to create an authentic, deeply desired service and brand. Beyond Mom’s focus on supporting the entire woman, both on her journey through motherhood and, above all, on her personal journey as she evolves and grows as a whole person.
