Mike Protich spent years and two albums as the lead singer of the band Red Sun Rising. They had two number-one rock songs and a few more top ten songs. In 2019 the band decided to call it quits. Mike and a couple of his bandmates kept going as a brand new project called The Violent. This is not Red Sun x2 though, this is entirely different. I caught up with Mike backstage at The Epic Event Center in Green Bay, WI.

Jim and Mike talk to Holly Hutchison about being an early champion for such artists as Blink 182, Alanis Morissette, Muse and many others. We talk about her career as an A&R person and her work with promoting and guiding new artists with her own company "AnR Girl". Believe it or not Mike, Jim and Holly all graduated from the same High School! ABOUT HOLLY: Holly Hutchison Weinman is a business executive with over 34 years experience in the music and entertainment industry. She is a visionary with a passion for new ideas, branding and cultivating identity. Her professional experience, A Level Repertoire, and deal making abilities draw largely from major recording corporation environments and highly successful mentors in New York City (Atlantic Records – a Time Warner Company) and Los Angeles (Capitol Records/EMI) where she held top ranking executive positions before venturing out on her own as a well respected, detail oriented and creative business owner. As an independent she has closed deals with Jason Flom Lava/Republic, Doug Morris former CEO Sony Music Entertainment and more. Holly built her credibility through a consistent track record of identifying artists who have proven to be successful – some being Skid Row, Deftones, Alanis Morissette, Blink 182, Slipknot, Muse, Saliva, Bosson and Vega 4. In Fall 2016, Holly took on management of the multi-platinum hard rock group SALIVA. She has enjoyed a long standing friendship with the group after being a first champion of SALIVA in 1998 while she was an A&R Executive at Capitol Records and the band were looking for a major label home. Unfortunately, Capitol Records did not sign SALIVA but the rockers went on to have a successful career at Island Records under music experts Rob Stevenson, Jeff Fenster and Lyor Cohen. Holly would remain a friend, business ally and mentor over the course of the next 18 years. In the two years of management, she doubled the group's gross income, released an independent single that has accumulated over 14 million streams through her marketing and landed Saliva a deal with Megaforce/Orchard/Sony Music Entertainment. The recording studio is a second home to Holly. She has extensive A&R experience that covers all aspects of album production and song selection for pop, rock and rap genres. She has worked with top multi platinum and Grammy award winning producers, mixers and songwriters such as Timbaland, Bob Marlette (Shinedown, Red Sun Rising), Jimmy Douglas, Peter Mokran, Ron Aniello, Josh Abraham, Al Sutton (Greta Van Fleet, Kid Rock), Michael Brauer (Coldplay), Dave Way (Christina Aguilera), Diane Warren, Billy Steinberg, Monty Powell (Keith Urban, Rascal Flatts), Jack Kugell, Kirsti Manna (“Austin” Blake Shelton) and Steve Kipner, just to name a few. Jim and Mike Talk Music can be found on Podbean (host site), Spotify, Apple Podcasts, Iheart Radio, Pandora and almost anywhere you listen to podcasts. You can also view a couple portions of our video interview with Holly on YouTube (search Jim and MIke Talk Music to find our channel) Thank you for listening!

We had the pleasure of interviewing The Violent over Zoom video! This is the story of The Violent. As 2019 came to a close, rock band Red Sun Rising announced an indefinite hiatus as its members pursued other opportunities. Soon after, the world as we knew it sunk into the deep hole of the pandemic. The time in lockdown helped to fuel the creative process for singer and songwriter Mike Protich, who was in search of a new creative release and to stretch his musical muscles. He recruited two members from his former band — Patrick Gerasia on drums and David McGarry on guitar. The threesome began to work remotely during the initial lockdown and quarantine. They embarked on virtual sessions using home studio setups and collaborating with producer Albert DiFiore in Nashville Tennessee. With roots in rock music, the three began to find fresh and invigorating ways to utilize their musicianship beyond the standard iteration of rock bands. They embraced experimentation by blending the familiar elements of rock music with a newfound appreciation for electronic and digital sounds. This process was elevated due to the fact that the members were unable to physically be in a room together to play.Out of this process, The Violent was born. It is truly a child of this chaotic pandemic — both sonically and lyrically. We want to hear from you! In this episode, we're scratching The Itch to choose violence! After their 2018 album _Thread_ won our hearts (and the #4 spot on that year's Top Albums list), Red Sun Rising announced a potentially permanent hiatus in early 2020. A few months later, an anonymous band called The Violent arrived on the scene with the powerful single "Fly On The Wall". Soon after, it was revealed that the three-piece band was comprised of former members of Red Sun Rising. This week, frontman Mike Protich joins us to talk about his bands new and old, including the creative transition, their first "live rituals", and how the band (figuratively) has people drinking the Kool-Aid of their sound. And hey, when you're done watching their SiriusXM performance we mentioned repeatedly, follow our New Rock Roundup playlist and then connect with us! itchrocks.com Twitter.com/itchrocks Facebook.com/itchrocks Instagram.com/itchrocks itchrocks@gmail.com Thank you so much for listening. Lost In Silence recently released a new single that hits a heavy, melodic alternative rock sweet spot with memorable choruses, spacey lead guitars, and changes that make the hairs on your arms stand up. “Rest In Peace” is alive with passion flowing through its veins and hooks that stick with you. The track doesn't let up even for a second, and you find yourself waiting for certain parts to hit again and again. The single has its heavier moments, but it's really focused on that driving melody and gigantic rock sound. Lost In Silence formed in Greeneville, TN, in 2016. The band has been support for Pop Evil, Lacey Sturm (Flyleaf) Trapt, Hawethorne Hights, Flaw, Wayland, Red Sun Rising, and many more. In 2017, Lost In Silence released their fist album, entitled Parallax, that caught a lot of attention. After that, the band took some time off to write. Lost In Silence is currently finishing up another EP with Brett Hestla.
