Her performance, however, revealed none of this. In fact, “Crazy” went on to become a massive hit, spending 21 weeks on the Billboard charts and becoming one of her signature songs.  In 1967, The Doors began recording their sophomore record, Strange Days, at Sunset Sound Studios in Hollywood. The album was released the following month and included two Top 30 singles, “People Are Strange” and “Love Me Two Times.” It peaked at No. 3 on the US album chart and, 34 years later, received a platinum certification from the RIAA.  21 Aug 1983 Ramones guitarist Johnny Ramone had a four-hour brain surgery operation, after being found unconscious in a New York Street where he had been involved in a fight.  21 Aug 1997 Oasis' third album 'Be Here Now', became one of the fastest selling albums ever, shifting over 350,000 units on the first day of release. The cover image for Be Here Now was shot at Stocks House in Hertfordshire, the former home of Victor Lownes, the head of the Playboy Clubs in the UK. This week, you'll hear what Rodrigo Hunrichse, your fellow RFI English listener, has found to be true in his life. Don't miss it!Here's Rodrigo's essay:Seize the moment, cherish loved ones, make a good impression, avoid toxicity, plant seeds, harvest in time, write/ report regularly, study/ inform yourself, make good, love, find someone to love you back, question important things, rest regularly, good deeds should return, bad ones too, don't judge until having good understanding of facts, don't take their words for a fact: verify, don't mind popular opinion, save for the uncertainty, remember good/bad people in your life so you'll be remembered similarly, find a belief and a belonging so you have peers to support and be supported, no one is perfect especially you that know yourself, take care of yourself so to age with dignity, it's never too late! Here's the music you heard on this week's program: “People Are Strange”, by Jim Morrison and Robby Krieger, performed by The Doors. The quiz will be back next Saturday, 24 August. Robby Krieger On Live At The Matrix 1967: The Original MastersThe Doors were a few months away from stardom in March 1967 when they played five sparsely attended shows at a small club in San Francisco called The Matrix. These uninhibited performances would have been fleeting if not for Peter Abram, who co-owned  the pizza parlor-turned-nightclub with Jefferson Airplane founder Marty Balin. An avid recordist, Abram taped concerts at The Matrix regularly and his recordings of The Doors, made between March 7-11, 1967, spawned one of the band's most storied bootlegs.  At long last, all known Matrix recordings, sourced entirely from Abram's original master recordings, will be released on September 8.Bootlegs of The Matrix shows have circulated among fans for years and were popular despite the poor audio quality of most copies. The sound began improving in 1997 when the first two songs from The Matrix shows were officially released on The Doors: Box Set. Even more performances followed in 2008 on Live at the Matrix 1967; regrettably, it was discovered soon after that all the recordings were sourced from third-generation tapes, not the originals. Today, Abram's original recordings have been remastered by Bruce Botnick, The Doors' longtime engineer/mixer, for official release. The vinyl version of LIVE AT THE MATRIX 1967: THE ORIGINAL MASTERS includes all 37 songs from the shows sourced from the master tapes. Except for 15 songs released in 2017 and 2018 as Record Store Day exclusives, most of the newly upgraded live recordings are making their debut in the collection, including eight that have never been featured on any of the previous Matrix releases. It's easy to understand the enduring appeal of these vintage performances by Jim Morrison, Ray Manzarek, Robby Krieger, and John Densmore. Recorded only a few months before “Light My Fire” propelled the band to worldwide success, the tapes capture The Doors playing a wide range of songs, including several from their self-titled debut, like “Break On Through,” “Soul Kitchen,” and “The End.” They also performed half the songs destined for the group's soon-to-be-recorded second album, Strange Days, including early performances of “Moonlight Drive” and “People Are Strange.” 15 Sets of music over five nights at The Matrix gave the band time to indulge its love of the blues with extended covers of “I'm A King Bee” and “Crawling King Snake.” The Doors even delivered an instrumental version of “Summertime.” These special moments all contribute to making Live at The Matrix, 1967all the more fascinating and important, as it showcases The Doors as the nascent struggling young band they were. Let's get deeper inside this box set's music, shall we?Source: https://store.rhino.com/en/rhino-store/artiHost Maggie LePique, a radio veteran since the 1980's at NPR in Kansas City Mo. In this episode of the Adventures of Pipeman, Pipeman speaks to John DeMena, an amazing musician who shares his story of coming to LA and going through the struggles of survival and chasing his dreams in the music industry. John's story was particularly challenging because he landed in LA just two months before the recession hit in 2000. Finding jobs and stability in the music industry was difficult for him. John lived in hostels with six to eight people for three to four months until he got a job and built his credit score. As a young adult, John was naive and didn't know what credit was in America. He thought that having money in his bank account would allow him to rent a place to live, but he was wrong. He had to learn the hard way about building credit and how things worked in America. John's early years in LA were full of challenges, but he survived and learned a lot of discipline. He believes that the difficult times he faced built his character and developed his personality, and he often says that it separates the boys from the men. John also shares his struggles in finding people who were artistically aligned with him or finding affirmation to stay together for a while. Many people come to LA and have to be part of multiple bands to pay their bills. But for John, the only way to move forward was as a solo artist who writes everything and then puts the band together. He developed a DIY approach and did everything himself. Overall, John's story is one of perseverance and determination to make his dreams come true despite the challenging times he faced. If you want to keep up to date with John, you can find him everywhere online under John DeMena, including his new TikTok channel you should definitely check out, and John DeMena Music on Facebook. Be sure to check out his music videos too, which he describes as very diverse, ranging from dystopian to modern, to cyber punk. New album, Dreams and Lies, out now. Featured by MTV Germany for his cover of The Doors' "People Are Strange", as well as outlets like Metal Hammer in Spain, Brave Words, Sonic Perspectives, and more. He is a Spanish immigrant who came to the US to pursue his dreams as an artist. https://www.johndemena.com/Take some zany and serious journeys with The Pipeman aka Dean K. [-]The Lost Boys [Original Soundtrack] Review by Theresa E. LaVeck Joel Schumacher's 1987 film The Lost Boys capitalized on a temporary lull in horror movies in the late '80s and created a heavily music-video-influenced vampire homage with enough campy humor, heavy metal costumes, and hunky stars to put a fresh spin on the genre. An amusing piece of eye candy spiked by a few creepy moments, the movie, in typical '80s style, relies heavily on the soundtrack to bolster its emotional core. The soundtrack, like the film, works great on the surface -- but don't go much deeper. A mix of covers and bombastic '80s pop originals, the songs work best when they concentrate on the horror factor. Echo & the Bunnymen turn in an excellent cover of the Doors' "People Are Strange" that has a bouncier, more melodic touch than the original. Jimmy Barnes and INXS' "Good Times" is an energetic rocker used to personify the party-hardy SoCal atmosphere of the film. The strongest song is the movie's theme, "Cry Little Sister," a goth-influenced midtempo ballad. Singer Gerald McMann's pained phrasing and creepy lyrics, and a chilling chorus sung by what sounds like disembodied children, exemplify the best parts of the movie and the soundtrack. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/comics-in-motion-podcast/message

Rod and Kale are joined by Paul Vanderklay, pastor and YouTuber, to discuss Rod's latest project on Enchantment.   Rod starts off with his story of Saint Galgano and the sword in the stone as a way of laying out his new project. These fantastic stories are the living testimony of the very strange God and the stories of those men and women called to bear witness. In Modernity, we have lost our ability to see fully and as a result we live in the disenchanted world that delimits and occludes the spirit. Any move towards re-enchantment must somehow include the enlightenment, and thinkers like Iain McGilchrist provide us a path back. In part, the recognition that "the whole story" or the "subtraction story" of Charles Taylor is, too, a myth.   They talk about Jordan Peterson as "the unauthorized exorcist of the Gospel of Mark", Charles Taylor, Tonya Luhrman, Blaise Pascal, Sam Harris, Dallas Willard, Michel Houellebecq, BJ Campbell, Steve Skojec, and others.   Links: Paul's YouTube Channel: https://www.youtube.com/c/PaulVanderKlay

“That's what words are, they create a perspective. You can rearrange the words and make anything beautiful.” - Robert HillHello and welcome to the self-help songwriter podcast! I'm Hanna Francis, a singer-songwriter who is obsessed with self-help (thanks, anxiety!) and is certain that the answers to life's big questions lie within each of us and on this podcast we search for these answers by analyzing songs with the people who wrote them. In each episode we invite a songwriter to share an original song. Then, we will break it down together, line by line, and extract the maximum meaning from it. We'll learn how different songwriters translate their life experience or personal philosophies into music. Today we have Robert Hill on the show, my soul-brother and fellow Folklore Center loiterer. Robert writes and sings in the American folk tradition, mixing more traditional fingerpicking root styles with his own brand of Scandinavian psychedelia. In this episode we talk about:✨How he used to write several songs per day (??!!).✨How his current process takes MUCH longer and invites in the subconscious. ✨How Bob Dylan seems like a grumpy genius. ✨This song is his version of “People Are Strange” by the Doors. ✨How there's beauty in everything.✨How destructive tendencies can ultimately act as creative forces. ✨How your perspective is sometimes the only thing you can change. And SO MUCH MORE!Make sure to leave a 5 star rating and review to let us know what you think while helping spread the show!Robert's Links:YoutubeSpotifyFacebookMy Link's:WebsiteInstagramMusic YoutubeBalkan Folkdance YoutubeSpotifyFacebookStuff we mentioned:The Great Kenny Rogers songVisions of JohannaPhoto of Robert by Ken AnderssonSupport the show
