Join us for a sit down with the founder of RADIXIR, a revolutionary new brand perfect for the Gen Z “It” crowd that wants a perfect blend of glowing skin and the perfect makeup prime. Reham Essa is the founder of Radixir, the new anti-aging skincare line designed to address acne and breakouts in mature skin. Reham started her career in her home country of Egypt as a pharmacist in 2009. While she has built a successful career in the pharmaceutical space working for independent pharmacies and cosmetic companies, she's always been particularly interested in cosmetic chemistry – one of the areas she's been trained in during her studies. After moving to the US in 2013, she decided to turn her passion for cosmetic chemistry into a career, and shortly after joined the Midwest Chapter of the Cosmetic Chemist Society. To further her expertise, she continued her education in cosmetic chemistry through advanced courses in natural organic formulations, natural fragrance, natural preserving, natural facial masks and spa management at Formula Botanica. She has also completed a mini-MBA program at Harvard University and University of Maryland to advance her management and marketing skills. Inspired by her personal experience with adult acne that has significantly impacted her confidence, in 2020 Reham set on a journey to formulate products that could address breakouts while delivering anti- aging benefits without overdrying skin. In 2022, the Radixir collection, featuring Confidence Serum, Confidence Moisturiser and Ice Globes Face Massager was born. With Radixir, Reham's goal has been to create a simplified yet effective skincare routine that would help busy women, like herself, achieve radiant, hydrated, breakout-free and youthful-looking skin with minimal effort and time commitment. Reham currently resides in Ellicott City, MD with her two children, a husband and a mini labradoodle Mocha. --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/skincareanarchy/message Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/skincareanarchy/support

The clitoris is the only part of the human body designed for pleasure. It has a whopping 8,000 nerve endings, twice as many as a male penis, yet in many cultures little girls are forced into genital cutting or Female Genital Mutilation. In Egypt around 40 Million women and girls are survivors of FGM. Egypt, has the largest population of FGM survivors in the entire world. Why is that? Reham Fagiri is the Founder and CEO of AptDeco, an online marketplace that eliminates the hassle of buying and selling furniture. Reham always knew she wanted to build something but never knew exactly what it would be. The idea for AptDeco came to Reham after she finished business school at Wharton and was preparing to move to New York. Desperate to sell her furniture, she used Craigslist, and was met with strangers coming to her house, heavy negotiations, cancellations, and even moments that compromised her safety. When speaking to her colleagues, she realized so many of her classmates were dealing with the same frustrations. Although she accepted a job with another start-up, Reham became obsessed with the idea of creating a better platform to buy and sell furniture. Fast forward to today, AptDeco has morphed from a scrappy team poaching furniture sales from Craigslist to now being a leading marketplace that provides a seamless experience from buying to selling to delivery of furniture. We talk to Reham about how she got the idea off the ground with very little money, some of the hurdles she hit when it came to scaling the business, how to really engage with your customers and create a trusted brand that people truly want, and so much more.In this episode, we'll talk to Reham about: * Reham shares about her life growing up in Sudan and the exposure she had to entrepreneurship [2:46]* Why Reham decided to leave her reputable job at Goldman Sachs to pursue business school [4:22]* The importance of having exposure to different opportunities and people when thinking about career changes [7:47]* How the idea of AptDeco came to life and how she decided to test the concept before spending more time and resources towards it [8:42]* Reham discusses why she felt comfortable taking the risk to build the business despite the massive amount of school debt she has [22:30]* The motivations around starting Y Combinator and the biggest lesson she learned: meet your customers [27:14]* Reham shares her best advice when it comes to connecting with your customer & some of the mistakes she made in the process [30:20]* How Reham created awareness in the early days & brought in her first few hundred customers [39:22]* The power of word of mouth and referrals in your business vs. paying for your customers [41:47]* Reham discusses the difficulty she faced raising money in the early stages of the business & why that was one of the best things that she experienced [43:04]* How she dealt with the rejections when it came to fundraising & how she deals with the highs and lows of entrepreneurship [48:19]Follow Reham:* Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/aptdeco/* Website: https://www.aptdeco.com/Follow Yasmin:* Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/yasminknouri/* Stay updated & subscribe to our newsletter: https://www.behindherempire.com/ See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.
Furniture became a hot item in 2020, and resale platform AptDeco was ready for that demand. The company's sales grew more than 300% last year, and is trying to ride that wave through this year. According to co-founder and CEO Reham Fagiri, the company's emphasis is now on expansion. AptDeco began in New York in 2014, and has been slowly growing ever since. Over the years, it added delivery to Northern New Jersey as well as Washington D.C. Now, more cities are being added. “We launched in Philadelphia earlier this year, and now -- literally two weeks ago -- just launched in the San Francisco Bay Area,” she said on the Modern Retail Podcast. “We're seeing a lot of opportunity.” Part of the reason for this growth is because AptDeco was able to capitalize on big consumer shifts. More people were stuck at home in 2020 and were buying nicer furniture. “We also saw people selling their products and looking to upgrade to more higher-end pieces,” she said. While many furniture companies have had supply chain issues due to logistics bottlenecks, AptDeco owns its fulfillment network and was able to mitigate much of that thanks to its delivery network. “We are logistics,” said Fagiri. “The reason why we own [delivery] is because we want to make sure we control the experience.” It's these elements that have helped AptDeco grow. Now, with expansion on the horizon, the plan is to have it become more of a household name.

For this episode, we'll be examining the recent escalation of attacks by Iran-backed militias against anti-corruption activists in Iraq following the widespread anti-government protests that rocked the country last year.Anger and grief has resurfaced in Iraq in the past weeks, as the southern city of Basra experienced a pattern of killings of anti-corruption activists. On Aug. 20, prominent activist Reham Yacoub was gunned down inside a car by unidentified men carrying assault rifles on the back of a motorcycle. She was 29 years old. Yacoub, a doctor by profession, ran a women's health and fitness centre in Basra. In 2018, she participated in anti-government protests, during which she led women's marches. Yacoub has been receiving death threats since then. Reports suggest her name was on a hit list compiled by powerful Iran-affiliated militias that have led the crackdown on Iraqi civil society and political activism.Visit our website and follow us on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram for our compelling journalism from the Middle East, North Africa, and beyond.(Produced by Danya Hajjaji with Gaia Caramazza.
