The Word of the Day is Failure (0:00-7:56) Tyrone believes The Process with Sam Hinkie was a failure. The Sixers are no closer to an NBA championship now than they were almost a decade ago with Hinkie as GM. We as fans were led astray. (8:02 -15:50 ) We pay “Hoosiers” Actor Gene Hackman our respects. Tyrone is not a fan of Hoosiers. The Twitter poll for today asks: “Was the Process a failure?” 89% said Yes and 11% said No. The Sixers have had success, just not enough. (16:00-27:50) Tyrone and Ricky talk PG dropping 25 points last night in MSG. Maxey had lots of energy. Does the team deserve our cheer and applause? Ricky is bothered that Paul George finally decides to take things seriously with only 6 weeks left in the regular season. Tyrone calls for the removal of the Sam Hinkie jersey from Xfinity Live. (28:00-37:05) Ben Simmons was supposed to be the next LeBron James. Tyrone, Ricky and Sylvana recall more of Hinkie and his countless draft mistakes. (13:33-21: 34) Tyrone does not think Sam Hinkie was a good talent evaluator. Jahlil Okafor over Kristaps Porzingis. Ricky questions the Sixers effort overall, despite a very close near win against the Knicks last night in Madison Square Garden without Embiid. (21:45-34:24) Tyrone and Ricky react to the NFLPA Team Report Card for the Eagles, ranked 22nd out of 31st, all the way down from 4th last year. Alex is joined by Ben Landsee to discuss the origins and meaning of the phrase, "trust the process". Ben talks about Sam Hinke's unique approach he brought to the Philadelphia 76ers in 2013 (9:52), and the analytical pioneers who influenced him. Ben outlines the benefits and limitations of Hinkie's process (18:37), and how it affected the career trajectories of many highly touted draft picks (e.g. Jrue Holiday, Nerlens Noel, Michael Carter-Williams, Markelle Fultz, Ben Simmons, and superstar Joel Embiid). The guys discuss Hinkie's positive influence on the broader sports landscape including Sam Presti's version of the process in Oklahoma City (29:12). Ben criticizes 76ers' management for trading away an antidote to the poisonous effects of the process (23:48), and Alex finshes the show by giving shoutouts to the valued TSPeeps before he and Ben play Start-Bench Cut focused on the most infuriating athletes (45:20).This episode is brought to you by The Scotian Braider.Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100087254292578&mibextid=LQQJ4dInstagram: https://instagram.com/thescotianbraider?igshid=YmMyMTA2M2Y=TikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@thescotianbraider?is_from_webapp=1&sender_device=

Adio Royster and Dave Early to the summer of 2014. This draft is incredibly important to Philadelphia 76ers fans and history. It is the draft when the Sixers took Joel Hans Embiid third overall. The Cleveland Cavaliers took Andrew Wiggins with the first overall pick. The Milwaukee Bucks drafted Duke forward Jabari Parker second overall. That left the Sixers and general manager Sam Hinkie to take Embiid with the third pick. There was a back injury. There was a face injury. There was a foot injury. None of that mattered. Hinkie and the Sixers were happy to take Embiid third, and Embiid was happy not to go to a 'corny' city (his words) like Milwaukee. What if things happened differently? What if David Griffin and the Cavaliers had the foresight to take Embiid and (maybe) pair him with Lebron James and Kyrie Irving down the line? What if the Bucks were patient with Embiid allowing them to pair him with Giannis Antetokounmpo? Learn more about your ad choices. Visit podcastchoices.com/adchoices

They get into: What bets did he place on the Superbowl, is our society headed for a "doink" economy? Who is the MVP today, is it Embiid? At one point Pablo says: “Guess whose over there? Joel fucking Embiid…. I’m trying to rub the Sixers success in the present into as many faces as possible….” And it’s glorious. He even works mashed potatoes and offers some half drank milk carton to us Process day 1’s. Generous, if gross. If Jeff Van Gundy still angry Pablo isn’t a doctor? How did Pablo convince Sam Hinkie to meet and talk to him when so few others could? What’s unique about Sam’s mind? If Pablo ran the Knicks would he fire Leon Rose and hire Hinkie? What did Sam Hinkie reveal he dreams about? Is an All-Star Game this season a bad idea with 20 of the best players in the world in one perhaps at risk-location? How will history look back on us for enjoying the NBA right now as we we learn more and more about this Pandemic? Is outdoor NBA feasible in the future? What made Pablo say this: “Those Sixers, they care about title contention so much more than the Jeanie Buss’ and all of the other owners and GMs who side-eyed them as [The Process] was happening.” What does Pablo think of Doc Rivers? Tobias Harris. Somehow there is a Joel Embiid having an orgy basketball metaphor that organically arises and Pablo says “yes it would be the Caligula of the NBA.” How would he woo a free agent if Daryl Morey hired him to personally make it happen? When the Philadelphia 76ers announced they were hiring Daryl Morey to be their president of basketball operations, it turned heads across the NBA. Not just because of Morey's track record with the Houston Rockets, but because of his close relationship with former 76ers GM Sam Hinkie. Hinkie's tenure with the 76ers was polarizing. With some accusing him of tanking and turning the team into a laughingstock, and others admiring his long-term vision for the team's success...a vision that has come to be embodied by the now ubiquitous phrase "Trust the Process." Hinkie, who was ousted from the franchise in 2016, now works not in basketball but in business, and has founded a venture capital firm called Eighty-Seven Capital. In a re-spin of an ESPN Daily bonus episode, Hinkie joins Pablo Torre for a rare, wide-ranging interview that covers his time with the Sixers, his exit from basketball, and his perspective on life away from the game.

When a group of private equity bigwigs purchased the Philadelphia 76ers in 2011, the team was both bad and boring. Attendance was down. So were ratings. The Sixers had an aging coach, an antiquated front office, and a group of players that could best be described as mediocre. Enter Sam Hinkie — a man with a plan straight out of the PE playbook, one that violated professional sports’ Golden Rule: You play to win the game. In Hinkie’s view, the best way to reach first was to embrace becoming the worst — to sacrifice wins in the present in order to capture championships in the future. And to those dubious, Hinkie had a response: Trust The Process, and the results will follow. The plan, dubbed “The Process,” seems to have worked. More than six years after handing Hinkie the keys, the Sixers have transformed into one of the most exciting teams in the NBA. They’ve emerged as a championship contender with a roster full of stars, none bigger than Joel Embiid, a captivating seven-footer known for both brutalizing opponents on the court and taunting them off of it. Beneath the surface, though, lies a different story, one of infighting, dueling egos, and competing agendas. Hinkie, pushed out less than three years into his reign by a demoralized owner, a jealous CEO, and an embarrassed NBA, was the first casualty of The Process. He’d be far from the last. Beneath the surface, though, lies a different story, one of infighting, dueling egos, and competing agendas. Hinkie, pushed out less than three years into his reign by a demoralized owner, a jealous CEO, and an embarrassed NBA, was the first casualty of The Process. He'd be far from the last. Drawing from interviews with nearly 175 people, TANKING TO THE TOP brings to life the palace intrigue incited by Hinkie's proposal, taking readers into the boardroom where the Sixers laid out their plans, and onto the courts where those plans met reality. Full of uplifting, rags-to-riches stories, backroom dealings, mysterious injuries, and burner Twitter accounts, TANKING TO THE TOP is the definitive, inside story of the Sixers' Process and a fun and lively behind-the-scenes look at one of America's most transgressive teams.

What starts out as a school project about Mike Scott Hive turns into closet fandoms being outed, dog masks torn to shreds, sweating profusely due to Hinkie arguments, and of course a few minutes to praise the greatest Sixer of our generation, Robert Covington. This 5 star high school prospect did NOT go to the G-League!

When a group of private equity bigwigs purchased the Philadelphia 76ers in 2011, the team was both bad and boring. Attendance was down. So were ratings. The Sixers had an aging coach, an antiquated front office, and a group of players that could best be described as mediocre. Enter Sam Hinkie -- a man with a plan straight out of the PE playbook, one that violated professional sports' Golden Rule: You play to win the game. In Hinkie's view, the best way to reach first was to embrace becoming the worst -- to sacrifice wins in the present in order to capture championships in the future. And to those dubious, Hinkie had a response: Trust The Process, and the results will follow. The plan, dubbed "The Process," seems to have worked. After a long hiatus where the whole world seemed like it was ending, we are back! Yes, it is great timing with the NBA also being on hiatus, we know. So, we're bringing back a nice little episode on Sam Hinkie. This episode was originally posted way back on April 7, 2016! An emergency pod was recorded because Sam Hinkie stepped down as the Philadelphia 76ers General Manager which eventually became the seat that Bryan Colangelo filled. Sixers fans were split down the middle on whether this was a good move or not, but at this point, a lot of fans may want Hinkie back. Without further ado, let's get into the episode that still breaks my heart to this day. Yes, I recorded this episode right after a college class where I was not paying attention because I was fuming over the fact Hinkie was not the GM anymore and 'The Process' felt like it was ending.
