In this week's episode, we're taking a little break from our usual career and business conversations for a more personal discussion. After sharing on Instagram that I don't use certain products in my own home, I received a flood of questions about the products we do use and how I've approached reducing our family's overall toxic burden. I'm not a medical professional, and I certainly don't have all the answers, but I wanted to share what has worked for me, where I started, and why I believe small, intentional changes can add up over time.I talk about my philosophy on low-tox living, the apps I use to research products, ways to support your body's natural detoxification systems, and some of my favorite swaps for hair care, skincare, makeup, deodorant, sunscreen, and more. Most importantly, I share why I believe this journey doesn't have to be overwhelming. You don't have to throw everything away overnight. Sometimes the best approach is simply replacing products one at a time as they run out and making choices that feel realistic and sustainable for your family.Be sure to subscribe/follow the show so you never miss an episode!Connect with Jessie:Follow on Instagram @ofthewest.co and @mrsjjarvFollow on Facebook @jobsofthewestCheck out the Of The West websiteResources & Links:Click here for all product recommendations from this episodeEpisode 85: Journey to Wellness with Jenna OchsnerEpisode 138: Girl Talk (with Jena Oschner): Rethinking “Healthy,” Part 1Join The Directory Of The WestGet our FREE resource for Writing a Strong Job DescriptionGet our FREE resource for Making the Most of Your InternshipGet our FREE resource: 10 Resume Mistakes (and how to fix them)Get our FREE resource: How to Avoid the 7 Biggest Hiring Mistakes Employers MakeEmail us at hello@ofthewest.coSubscribe to Of The West's NewslettersList your jobs on Of The West

What if the quality of your life is hidden inside the quality of the questions you're willing to ask?In this episode of ALLSMITH, Bryce explores a collection of questions that have been sitting with him lately—questions sparked by conversations with clients, friends, guests, members of the ALLSMITH community, and his own experiences navigating health, relationships, grief, business, marriage, and personal growth. This isn't an episode about having all the answers. It's a conversation and an exploration. An exploration of commitment, loneliness, purpose, health, character, judgment, observation, wonder, and what it actually means to build a beautiful life in a world that often feels busy, distracted, entertained, and disconnected.Bryce dives into topics like people pleasing, ghosting culture, confidence, modern loneliness, social media validation, courage, responsibility, and why many of life's greatest breakthroughs begin with a better question. At ALLSMITH, we believe fitness is the vessel. But the destination has always been something bigger:A beautiful life. And sometimes a single question can change the direction of an entire life.In This Episode:Are you exhausted because life is hard, or because you're carrying things that no longer belong to you?The difference between being nice and being goodWhy confidence is built through evidence, not affirmationWhat commitment can teach us about health, relationships, business, and lifeGhosting culture and the cost of avoiding responsibilityThe hidden difference between recovery and escapeWhy money can't solve loneliness, purpose, or belongingReplacing judgment with observation and curiosityLearning how to wonder instead of reactListening to the signals your body has been sendingQuestioning your definition of successLearning to trust yourself and make difficult decisionsWhat grief, adversity, and uncertainty can teach usWhy better questions often lead to better livesQuotes From This Episode:“Confidence is built through evidence, not affirmation.”“Resentment is often the receipt for an agreement we never should have made.”“The life you want is often hidden behind the commitment you're avoiding.”“The body whispers before it screams.”“A full calendar doesn't guarantee a full life.”“The wrong mountain still takes a lifetime to climb.”“Clarity is often the reward for courage.”“Every season leaves something behind for those willing to pay attention.”Key Takeaways:Better questions often create better lives.Character matters more than reputation.Commitment is becoming a lost art—and one of life's greatest competitive advantages.Observation creates understanding. Judgment often ends it.Wonder and curiosity are powerful tools for growth.Health is not the destination, but it may be the most important vehicle.Building a beautiful life requires intention, courage, and consistency. The quality of your life is often hidden inside the quality of the questions you're willing to ask.Question of the Week:What question are you avoiding because you're afraid of the answer?Sit with it.Journal on it.Bring it to dinner.Talk about it with someone you trust.Because sometimes the question we've been avoiding is the one we need most.Connect With ALLSMITH:Instagram: @allsmithcoBryce: @therealbrycesmithWebsite: http://ALLSMITH.coSubscribe to the ALLSMITH Newsletter for weekly reflections, practical tools, stories, and conversations designed to help you build a stronger body, sharper mind, and more meaningful life.If this episode resonates with you, share it with a friend and send us the question that's been sitting with you lately. At ALLSMITH, we don't just search for better answers. We ask better questions.Much love.Welcome to ALLSMITH.Thank you for Listening! In this week's episode, I'm sharing a lesson that came from a foggy drive across southern Idaho and the perspective it gave me about navigating uncertainty in life and business. We all go through seasons where we can't clearly see what's ahead, whether it's a career transition, a business challenge, a relationship struggle, or simply feeling stuck. In those moments, our instinct is often to stop and wait for clarity, but what I've learned is that clarity rarely comes from standing still. It comes from continuing to move forward, even when you can only see a few feet ahead.I also share why I think there are different types of “fog” in life, the temporary kind that clears quickly and the heavier kind that settles in for a season. We talk about the power of momentum, why movement creates clarity, and the lesson we can learn from buffalo, which instinctively run into a storm instead of away from it. If you're navigating a season of uncertainty, this episode is a reminder that the road ahead still exists, even when you can't fully see it yet.Be sure to subscribe/follow the show so you never miss an episode!Connect with Jessie:Follow on Instagram @ofthewest.co and @mrsjjarvFollow on Facebook @jobsofthewestCheck out the Of The West websiteResources & Links:Join The Directory Of The WestGet our FREE resource for Writing a Strong Job DescriptionGet our FREE resource for Making the Most of Your InternshipGet our FREE resource: 10 Resume Mistakes (and how to fix them)Get our FREE resource: How to Avoid the 7 Biggest Hiring Mistakes Employers MakeEmail us at hello@ofthewest.coSubscribe to Of The West's NewslettersList your jobs on Of The WestMentioned in this episode:Click below to check out open jobs on Of The West.Open Jobs on Of The West

I'm back with another episode for our solo summer series. Today, I'm sharing a lesson that started with hard-boiled eggs and ended with a $450 plumbing bill. What seemed like a harmless tip I found online turned out to be completely wrong, and it got me thinking about how often we accept information as fact simply because we saw it on the internet. From social media posts and viral headlines to AI-generated content and misinformation, I'm diving into why it's more important than ever to slow down, ask questions, and think critically about the information we consume and share.I talk about confirmation bias, fact-checking, AI, social media algorithms, and the responsibility we all have to protect our credibility and the industries we care about. More than anything, this episode is a reminder that just because something sounds true doesn't make it true. If you've ever shared an article without reading it, believed a viral headline, or wondered how to navigate an internet that feels increasingly difficult to trust, this conversation is for you. Instead of guest interviews, I'm spending the summer diving into more solo episodes, talking about life, business, career growth, hiring, job seeking, and the heart behind why Of The West was created in the first place. And to kick things off, we're re-airing the most downloaded solo episode we've ever released, How to Push Through a Losing Season.Originally recorded in December 2023, this episode is an incredibly personal conversation about walking through difficult seasons in both life and business. I share some of the hardest experiences my family faced, what helped us keep moving forward, and the mindset shifts that carried us through uncertainty and loss. We also talk about recognizing patterns, preparing for hard seasons before they happen, and why resilience is something we build over time. In this week's episode, I'm sitting down with Brent Turner, founder of Agri-Generational and author of Piece of Land, for a conversation that I honestly think every farm and ranch family needs to hear. We dive into the realities of succession planning, why so many families avoid these conversations, and what's actually at stake when there's no clear plan in place. Brent shares how his background in financial planning and decades of working alongside agricultural families led him to focus exclusively on helping farms and ranches navigate transition, continuity, and legacy. We also talk about the emotional side of succession, the different “hats” operators wear inside a business, and why the role of “chief wisdom officer” may be one of the most important positions in a family operation. More than anything, this episode is about building something that lasts, empowering the next generation, and making sure the future of your operation is determined by design instead of default. 225: Every Website Already Has An Agent Experience And Most Are Bad With Netlify CEO Matt Biilmann

No Hacks Marketing

The user-agent string in the HTTP header has been there since the 1990s. The web was built with software navigating it on someone's behalf. For thirty years that someone was a human. That changes now. Matt Biilmann, CEO and co-founder of Netlify, was one of the first to take seriously what it means when the "user" navigating the web is an AI agent. He published the foundational essay on Agent Experience in January 2025, pivoted his entire company around it, and recently shipped netlify.ai as a separate entry point built for agents. We cover the four pillars of Agent Experience, why every product already has an agent experience whether you designed one or not, content negotiation as a way to tell agents to go to a different URL than humans, why SaaS is in real trouble (with a story from inside Netlify about ripping out vendor contracts), how the data-structure assumption that has defined software for fifty years is breaking, and the one thing every website owner should start doing this week.About the GuestMatt Biilmann is the CEO and co-founder of Netlify, the platform that started the Jamstack movement and is leading the shift from developer experience to agent experience. His January 2025 essay on Agent Experience is the foundational text for the discipline. Chapters00:00 Every product has an agent experience (cold open)00:35 The architectural question01:46 Welcome Matt to No Hacks02:15 When AX became a design constraint, not a concept06:44 The January 28 2025 essay and who got it first10:22 Why netlify.ai was built as a separate website12:44 Content negotiation: telling agents to go to a different URL13:54 Qualitative data and the Axis eval framework17:12 Does AX apply to e-commerce and content websites?20:59 The cumulative media argument (TV did not kill radio)25:00 User-agent in HTTP and Al Gore-era agent commerce laws26:33 SaaS business model is dead: build-vs-buy is shifting30:44 The end of structured content as a hard constraint40:25 One thing every website owner should do now43:08 Where to find Matt onlineKey TakeawaysEvery website already has an agent experience. Agent Experience is how AI agents currently interact with your product, whether through computer use, fetching, or working around the barriers you put up. It is not a feature you add. The only question is whether the experience is good or bad.The four pillars: Access, Context, Tools, Orchestration. Matt's framework for thinking about AX systematically. Access answers whether agents can reach your product at all. Context is the prompt-engineering equivalent for agents. Tools are the concrete capabilities you expose. Orchestration covers how agents string those tools together inside your product.Build a separate entry point for agents. netlify.ai is purpose-built for agents while netlify.com remains the human entry point. Content negotiation tells agents to go to one URL, humans see the other. The blessed-path approach beats trying to make one URL serve both.SaaS economics are shifting structurally. The build-vs-buy floor is dropping fast as AI lowers the cost of software. Traditional 90%-margin seat-based SaaS is in real trouble. Dev tool companies have upside because companies need more tools. Everyone else is going to be ripping out vendor contracts and building internally. The data-structure paradigm is breaking. Software engineering has operated on the Linus Torvalds principle that data structures matter more than code. LLMs are not built around data structures. Building software around LLMs means rethinking the assumption that drove fifty years of computer science.Notable Quotes"Every product has an agent experience because all of these agents, whether through computer use or through fetching your website or through working around the barriers you put up from them, have some agent experience right now. It is just a question of is it good or bad.""There is a reason it is called a user agent in the header. It was forward-looking.""We have been ripping out SaaS contracts. Sometimes it is heartbreaking. The rep calls to right-size the contract and the customer reacts with 'let me see if I can build it with an agent.' Then they call back and cancel instead.""The context and the flows and your creativity are probably more important than both the data structures and the code."What To Do NextOpen your website in Claude Code or ChatGPT and ask the agent to complete a real task. Watch where it stalls. That is your AX baseline.Check your traffic logs for AI assistant visitors (ChatGPT-User, Claude-Web, PerplexityBot, GPTBot). The number is rising whether you measure it or not. Cloudflare reports AI assistants are now 5.5% of all internet traffic, up from 3.9% six months ago.Read Matt's January 28 2025 essay on Agent Experience at biilmann.blog as the starting point. Then read the one-year retrospective for the four pillars framework. If you operate a developer tool or any product with a clear automation surface, start a simple eval scenario: take a fresh agent, give it a task, score whether it succeeds. Axis from Netlify will give a proper framework when it ships open source.Resources Mentionednetlify.ai (the agent-built entry point Matt and team shipped recently)netlify.com (the human entry point)Matt's original Agent Experience essay, January 28 2025: biilmann.blogMatt's "AI in the CLI: The Humanoid Robot of the Web" (August 2025)Claude Code (the agent that flipped broad accessibility for CLI coding agents)Connect with Matt BiilmannBlog: biilmann.blogLinkedIn: linkedin.com/in/mathias-biilmann-christensen-a5a3805Twitter/X: @biilmann (x.com/biilmann)Bluesky: bsky.app/profile/did:plc:grjr4il5dredrsuj7nosb4pqMastodon: mastodon.social/@biilmannNetlify: netlify.com and netlify.aiConnect with No HacksWebsite: nohacks.coSubscribe to the newsletter: nohacks.co/subscribeMachine-First Architecture: machinefirstarchitecture.comNo Hacks is a podcast about web performance, technical SEO, and the agentic web. We also talk about confidence, identity, creativity, and the reality that sometimes growth means letting go of old versions of yourself in order to step fully into the life you've prayed for.Rachel also shares how she taught herself silversmithing through YouTube and online maker communities after becoming a mom of four, and why continuing to chase your own passions alongside parenthood matters. In this week's Mentor March episode, I'm sitting down with someone who has had a massive impact on my life and career, my longtime friend and mentor, Ashley Alderson, founder of The Boutique Hub. Ashley was actually my boss first, and over the past decade, our relationship has evolved from employer and employee to close friends and trusted sounding boards for each other in business and life. In this conversation, we talk about the power of mentorship, investing in yourself, and how reshaping your mindset around money, success, and worthiness can completely change the path you're on.We also dive into some of the biggest lessons Ashley has learned over nearly 15 years of entrepreneurship, from staying focused on your own lane and setting boundaries to navigating the seasons of business and family life. This episode is a reminder that growth rarely looks perfect, but surrounding yourself with the right people and staying committed to your values can take you further than you ever imagined.Be sure to subscribe/follow the show so you never miss an episode!Connect with Ashley:Check out her websiteFollow on Instagram @theboutiquehub and @ajaldersonBoutique Chat PodcastConnect with Jessie:Follow on Instagram @ofthewest.co and @mrsjjarvFollow on Facebook @jobsofthewestCheck out the Of The West websiteResources & Links:Episode 52: Community Over Competition with Ashley AldersonCymbiotika MagnesiumJoin The Directory Of The WestGet our FREE resource for Writing a Strong Job DescriptionGet our FREE resource for Making the Most of Your InternshipGet our FREE resource: 10 Resume Mistakes (and how to fix them)Get our FREE resource: How to Avoid the 7 Biggest Hiring Mistakes Employers MakeEmail us at hello@ofthewest.coSubscribe to Of The West's NewslettersList your jobs on Of The West

You've sat across from someone who eats two bites of dessert, puts the fork down, and moves on — no guilt, no quiet negotiation, no 'I'll start again Monday.' And part of you has always assumed they're just built differently. They're not. Their software is different. And in this episode, we break down exactly what's running in that calm eater's brain — seven specific mental traits — and why every one of them is a configuration you can change, not a personality you either have or don't.This is the episode that names the quietest lie the diet industry tells: that how you relate to food is fixed. It isn't. And once you see that clearly, the whole game shifts.WHAT WE COVERThe Personality Myth — the lie that calm eaters are born, not madeWhy the noise around food is an identity problem, not a food problemThe Identity Thermostat — and why fighting the temperature never worksAll 7 mental traits, with the contrast between the hijacked brain and the rewired oneWhy Trait 7 (identity leads the behavior) is the master trait everything else flows fromTHE 7 TRAITS1. Food is neutral — no verdict attached, just fuel and pleasure2. The pause before the pull — observation over reaction3. Hunger as signal, not emergency — data, not a five-alarm fire4. No cleanup eating — food isn't a therapist5. Satisfaction as a real stop signal — eating only for what food can give6. Tomorrow has nothing to do with today — no cascades, no all-or-nothing logic7. Identity leads the behavior — the master trait. The dial that runs the room.KEY CONCEPT"Calm eaters aren't fighting the temperature every day. Their thermostat is set to a different default. When the shift happens, these traits stop requiring discipline. They become how you operate."MENTIONED IN THIS EPISODEEscape the Willpower Trap — the course where we install these traits module by module, identity shift by identity shift. Give First and Win Bigger: How Great Partnerships Start with Generosity, Not NegotiationGuest: Stan Valo, Founder of eDots Host: Julie RigaOverviewWhat if the key to business growth wasn't in closing deals, but in giving first? In this episode of Stay On Course, Julie Riga sits down with Stan Valo, founder of eDots and a 21-year e-commerce veteran, to explore a transformational mindset shift. Stan unpacks his three-ingredient recipe for partnership success that helped him build a purpose-driven business where the yeses come easily, clients become true collaborators, and value flows in every direction. Whether you are a solopreneur, executive, or founder, this episode is a masterclass in intentional relationship-building, strategic growth, and legacy-driven leadership.Give First and Win Bigger: How Great Partnerships Start with Generosity, Not NegotiationAbout Stan ValoStan Valo is the founder of eDots, an e-commerce growth engine that helps brands, manufacturers, and distributors scale across new online marketplaces and sales channels. With over 21 years in the industry, Stan developed a performance-only partnership model that blends agency services with distribution expertise. His philosophy, "I don't sell, I solve," reflects his commitment to authentic leadership, purpose-driven business, and building lasting professional relationships.Fun Fact: Stan's favorite food is his grandmother's stuffed peppers with sour cream, a cherished recipe from her home country of Moldova.Stan's Three-Ingredient Recipe for Partnership Success1. Go First: Give Unconditionally In negotiation, the one who speaks first loses. In partnerships, the one who gives first wins. Lead every new relationship with introductions and referrals, no strings attached. Ask "who can I help you meet?" and watch generosity build the foundation of lasting trust.2. Be a Solver: Solve Something Meaningful Stan's core mantra is simple: don't sell, solve. Focus on real problems rather than closing transactions. When you solve meaningfully, value overflows and the relationship deepens naturally. The best leaders are solvers who match people with exactly what they need.3. Create Undeniable Value for Both Sides Value must flow in both directions for a partnership to last. Choose your partners wisely, start light, and let the relationship evolve before committing deeper. Think of it like dating before marriage: coffee first, then friends, then family. Integrity is everything.Memorable Quotes"In a negotiation, the one that talks first loses. In partnerships, the one that goes first wins.""I don't sell, I solve. I've never had to negotiate a single deal.""It's hard to get a no when you're offering so much.""I don't have a contact form. I have an application form. That changes the dynamic."Key Takeaways for LeadersGive Before You Ask - Lead with generosity. Start with a gift of value: an introduction, a connection, or an insight. Trust and opportunity follow naturally.Shift from Selling to Solving - The most powerful transformation in business is moving from transaction to contribution. Solve real problems and the yeses follow.Build Relationships, Not Contracts - Start light, prove your value, and let partnership depth grow organically over time.Stay Narrow and Know Your Strengths - Clarity of focus amplifies impact. Build a power team of trusted partners who complement your core strengths.Integrity Is Your Growth Engine - Authentic connection without an agenda is the ultimate long-game strategy and the foundation of lasting legacy.Connect with Stan ValoWebsite: edots.coSubscribe to Stay On CourseSubscribe wherever you listen to podcasts and share with leaders ready to stop selling and start solving.#StayOnCourse #GiveFirst #PurposeDrivenLeadership #PartnershipMindset #AuthenticGrowth

Send us a textWhat makes a Christmas tradition stick—the flavor, the place, or the story you tell about it? We gathered five friends from across the map to trade brutally honest eggnog takes, map out Christmas Eve and Day rituals, and argue for the movies that still make us feel like kids. From beach fires in North Carolina to church services and the Feast of the Seven Fishes, the thread running through it all is simple: small moments, strong memories. We dive into the comfort classics—Chevy Chase's Christmas Vacation, the original cartoon Grinch, both Home Alones, Polar Express, and the underappreciated Charlie Brown specials—and shout out favorite characters like Buddy the Elf, Ralphie, Yukon Cornelius, and the Heat Miser vs. Snow Miser duo. Then we hop towns to find real places that look like movie sets: Chagrin Falls and Hudson in Ohio, Carmel's rink and German market in Indiana, Sugarcreek's Amish charm, and West Virginia's Berkeley Springs with its storybook main street. If you're building a holiday road trip, we've got a ready-made list: Oglebay Festival of Lights, Pittsburgh's PPG Place rink and the Point, Cleveland's Zoo Lights, downtown Willoughby's Light Up Night, and the A Christmas Story House.Food gets personal fast. Ham and scalloped potatoes, beef tenderloin, and an avalanche of Christmas cookies take center stage, with regional favorites like Sarris chocolate adding bite. We also take on the live-sports-on-Christmas question (most of us say stay home unless it's a great NBA matchup) and rank gifts—dinner out tops the list, edging gift cards, with candy a distant third.
