Pregnancy is common during medical training and in the early years as an attending physician, as these stages often align with individuals' reproductive potential. The experience can vary widely depending on factors such as workplace dynamics, scheduling, and the physical demands of the job. But let's be real - running around a busy ED while carrying extra weight, feeling nauseated (maybe vomiting), and managing all of the physical and emotional changes that come with pregnancy is a real challenge that many of us have lived. There are numerous considerations to navigate, from how we wish to be perceived as a team member to the risks posed by the workload on our bodies. Additionally, departmental or hospital policies may have financial implications that further complicate the situation. Join us as and Dr. Katren Tyler - EM physician and mother of two - as we break it all down. This the second episode in our three part series on infertility, pregnancy and breastfeeding as an Emergency Physician. If  you missed it, go back and check out part 1! And stay tuned for our final episode of the series where we'll delve into some of the challenges surrounding breastfeeding and pumping in the ED.  Does your ED have policies to help support people through pregnancy? NARAL's The Morning After is a production of NARAL Pro-Choice Ohio. On this weeks episode, we're listening in to a hearing of the Ohio Senate Health Committee. They held a 10 hour meeting on Wednesday (don't worry, our show is only 29 minutes!) that was mostly testimony on SCR 14, which would declare racism to be a public health crisis in Ohio. Our excerpted audio from the hearing includes resolution sponsors Sen. Sandra Williams and Sen. Hearcel Craig. They receive questions from Sen. Nickie Antonio, Sen. Tina Maharath, and Sen. Cecile Thomas. We also have audio from Franklin County Commissioner Kevin Boyce, Columbus City Councilwoman Priscilla Tyson, and former state senator Charleta Tavares. This hearing was not without additional controversy. Mid-way through the hearing, Sen. Steve Huffman referred to “the colored population” and questioned whether they get COVID-19 more often because they do not wash their hands as much. After this racist question was spread on social media, Sen. Huffman was fired from his day job — a physician at a Dayton-area hospital. ********** Listen to NARAL's The Morning After on these podcast apps: Apple Podcasts: bit.ly/naralpodcast Spotify: bit.ly/naralspotify Stitcher: bit.ly/naralstitcher Podbean: bit.ly/naralpodbean

This 'Guyana SPEAKS special' was originally set up to coincide with Dr Kimani Nehusi's visit from the USA to London. However given the recent passing of one of Guyana's indomitable activists, Guyana SPEAKS will also use this event to pay tribute to Andaiye (1942-2019), born Sandra Williams. The event will open with a traditional African libation by Dr Michelle Yaa Asantewa. This will be followed by Vanda Radzik's tribute to Andaiye (via Skype in Guyana) and tributes, later on, from members of the audience. Since the title of Andaiye's collected speeches and writings over 50 years of activism are to be published posthumously under the title The Point is to Change the World, Dr Nehusi has kindly agreed to speak on the topic: "Activism and National Consciousness".

Due to the negligence of the hospital's ICU doctor in responding to the patient's restricted airway, she entered into a three-week-long coma and awoke blind and brain-damaged due to a lack of oxygen.   Click Here to Read/Download the Complete Trial Documents     Guest Bio:       With more than 25 years of legal experience, Lloyd Bell has built a sterling courtroom record and recovered millions of dollars for medical malpractice victims. A veteran of the U.S. Army JAG Corps, Bell founded his own law firm in 1999 and is consistently recognized as one of the top attorneys in his field. In 2018, Bell Law Firm was recognized as Personal Injury Litigation Team of the Year by Daily Report, the leading source of legal news in Atlanta. Lloyd Bell has been included in Atlanta Magazine's prestigious Super Lawyers list every year since 2005, and more recently the Super Lawyers “Top 100 Lawyers in Georgia” list in 2018. Over the past five years, Bell won more seven- and eight-figure verdicts for his clients in medical malpractice cases than any other attorney in the state of Georgia, including a $15 million verdict against a large Atlanta hospital group in 2016 and a record-breaking $26 million verdict against a Columbus hospital in 2017. NARAL's The Morning After is a production of NARAL Pro-Choice Ohio. This week, Kelley, Gabe, and Vashitta discuss last night's debate of Ohio's Democratic candidates for governor. Richard Cordray, Dennis Kucinich, Bill O'Neill, and Joe Schiavoni met in Toledo to explain why they should be the nominee. Before the debate, Bill O'Neill made headlines when he contacted supporters to clarify his anti-abortion views. NARAL Pro-Choice Ohio Executive Director Kellie Copeland issued this response soon after: Once a woman has made the decision to end a pregnancy, she needs access to safe and legal abortion care in her community. Any candidate for governor, regardless of political affiliation, who doesn't respect her decision is unfit to lead the state of Ohio. During the debate Richard Cordray expressed support for women's health care and reproductive rights. Joe Schiavoni did as well, being the only candidate on stage to say the word "abortion" as he stated his pro-choice position. Dennis Kucinich did not mention reproductive rights. Vashitta joined Senators Charleta Tavares, Sandra Williams, and Cecil Thomas as they called for protections against sexual harassment in and around the Ohio Statehouse. OUTSpoken welcomes guest Phillip Tyler, joining us as a part of  “Uncomfortable Conversations: Dissecting a Black and White Divide”, a look into the separation between black and white cultures. Phillip Tyler currently sits as Vice President on the board of Spokane’s NAACP chapter.     We also welcome Sandra Williams, our second panelist on “Uncomfortable Conversations: Dissecting a Black and White Divide”. Sandra Williams is the Editor and Publisher of “The Black Lens” – the only African American newspaper in Eastern Washington. Sandra Williams also works with the LGBT students at Eastern Washington University.   Sandra Williams and Phillip Tyler will be part of a key panel discussion on race, racism and inequality in all elements of culture. “Uncomfortable Conversations: Dissecting a Black and White Divide” stems from the recent release of Macklemore and Ryan Lewis’s song “White Privilege 2”. Elements of that song will be brought up during our discussion and we hope to achieve an honest conversation about race in our nation. The Black Lens is a local community newspaper that is focused on the news, events, people, issues and information of importance to Spokane’s African American community. The paper is published monthly and available free of charge at a limited number of pick up locations around Spokane. It is also available by mail with a paid subscription. The goal of The Black Lens is to be a positive influence, to encourage critical thinking, and to uplift Spokane’s African American community.
