Biblical theologian Gary Cass and teaching elder Rob Jenks continue their discussion of biblical citizenship. Should Christian churches stay quiet in the political realm? What is our moral obligation, especially in respect to the right to worship freely, abortion and critical race theory? What have Christian leaders throughout history said about the role of the believer, when governments go against God's direction in restricting free exercise of worship or teaching anti-biblical concepts in our schools? Should Christian women have a unique dress standard? This is certainly a topic on which we can find a great deal of disagreement, I'm sure. But I keep reminding myself that my opinion or someone else's opinion can be dead...
Should Christian doctors perform sex change surgeries- Given that the federal government is now forcing the issue, would this constitute a capitulation to sin and a fatal compromise of the faith- More fundamentally, why is the government so regulating medicine. . .and education. . . and everything else. The Art of Becoming Happily Single Today we’re helping singles learn how to be happy and single. I’m calling it the art of becoming "happily single." Joining me on the podcast is my dear friend, Vernicia Eure, who, though she’s never been married has learned to be content with being single. This isn’t an easy feat, but Vernicia explains how she realized that God had a plan through some of the relationships that didn’t work out. “I’ve learned to be content,” Vernicia says, “but sometimes I’m not all that happy about it.” Vernicia took her experiences and decided to help other single women in their process of learning how to be happily single themselves with the creation of her Stepping into Purity Facebook group. “What if you’re not supposed to be in a relationship right now?” Vernicia asks the ladies in her group. Single vs Married – The Grass is Greener on the Other Side Far too often, people think the grass is greener on the other side. Single people want to be married, and married people want to be single. Wouldn’t it be great if we just all learned how “to be content in whatever state we are in” like the apostle Paul encourages us in the Bible (Philippians 4:11). Friends, the grass is not greener on the other side. It’s greener where you water it most. Maybe the question is how are you watering the single life you’ve been given? Maybe it’s time to stop looking over the fence and, instead, begin to truly embrace this season in your life and focus on learning how to be happily single. What Real Purity Is in Relationships Many single people have been confused or even hurt by the so-called “purity culture movement” that was all the rage back in the 1980s and 90s. True purity, however, has more to do with a surrendered heart than behavior. Should Christian singles engage in online dating? Should they watch certain movies? How should you respond to the oversaturation of sex in our culture? Vernicia talks about the importance of realizing purity goes beyond sexual purity and encompasses mental, relational, and spiritual purity as well. She gives a really great explanation of this around 21:00 mark of the episode. Vernicia reminds us that you can be “sex-free,” but still need to engage in other aspects of real purity by celebrating your authenticity and embracing where you are in your life now instead of using sex as a cover for you not knowing yourself or your values. Because I’ve known Vernicia for 30+ years and have been able to watch her life, I can attest that she practices what she preaches. "This week and the month of March we'll be talking about the New Covenant. It may sound dull, but this is truly exciting. This is where we live out our lives as believers. We're familiar with the Old Covenant with all its rules and regulations. It was put into place 400 years after the promise given to Abraham. The New Covenant isn't like the Old. God made a declaration and we are beneficiaries of His will. How can I love him more as my father than a judge? * What's an example of "Like sheep to the slaughter"? Are these Christians? * How is guilt different from repentance?

Should Christian parents allow their children to go trick-or-treating? How should a Christian family decide about Halloween?Ultimately parents need to discern and decide what is best for their children and their family. Biblically I don’t feel that I can argue dogmatically one way or the other. The biblical principles laid out by Paul help us ask some important questions when deciding what to do. (For these principles, read our article about whether Christians should celebrate Halloween.)This episode will help you think through some important issues to help your family decide what to do about Halloween.Prefer to read the article? Should Christian’s divorce? Is it even an option for a follower of Jesus? That’s the next question that Jesus takes up as calls us to live a life right with God.
Christian first got into crypto currency in 2017 when many people, including myself, were piling on. If you were there at the time, you’ll remember it as a period of pure euphoric derision. There were coins for everything and Bitcoin was on its way to landing on mars — as Christian put it “anything with a ticker was going to the moon.”As we all know, this didn’t last forever and the all time highs set back then haven't [yet] been revisited since. Plenty of people walked off with their tails between their legs, while other more evangelical owners like Christian and myself decided to stick it out. I remember a conversation a couple of years ago with another guest — an intelligent guy — who lamented that ‘it’s a ponzi scheme and it’s going to zero – get your money out now’. Smart fella, sure, but I’m glad I’m glad I didn’t heed his advice. How often do we conflate intelligence with wisdom right? We’re a few years removed from these discussions now and there’s a general consensus that Bitcoin is very far from, as my friend put it, a ponzi scheme. At the core, Bitcoin is uncensorable and incorruptible items of digital value. Many people are put off by the stories about hacks, but fail to understand that these are taking place on exchanges or through digital wallets, quite separate from the bitcoin blockchain itself. Yes, we are right to be sceptical about some of the actors working on the peripheries of Bitcoin, but there’s pretty compelling proof in the legitimacy of the technology itself. Of all of the cryptocurrencies, Bitcoin is the original. It arrived with its founder “Satoshi Nakamoto” (a pseudonym that I successfully butcher on the podcast - Natoshi Saka what?) Nearly 12 years ago the whitepaper was delivered to us, which, Christian posits, is a relatively good reason to assume it will still be around 12 years from now, too. He credits the Lindy effect; a theory that the future life expectancy of a technology is proportional to its current age, so that every additional period of survival implies a longer remaining life expectancy. This brings us to the question of whether Bitcoin will be boom or bust in the long term. Should Christian be right and Bitcoin is still front and centre 12 years from now, it would make sense that it has either been deemed absolutely worthless and the value dropped down to zero, or perhaps that it’s been elevated to becoming a cornerstone value, not tied to any particular country. My guess on which one of these two futures will come about is exactly that — a guess. Christian and I are biased owners of Bitcoin who are both excited in its long term promise so please don’t use this as investment advice on a highly speculative asset. If you’re considering dipping your toes into crypto, do your own due diligence thoroughly and independently. So on that - check out episode 94 here with Easy Crypto for a bit of background as to why I recommend them for any first time Crypto buyer to be. If you're ready to get into Bitcoin, make a start here by setting up an account with Easy Crypto._________________________________________________________________The NZ Everyday Investor is brought to you in partnership with Hatch. Religion is in the news lately, Christianity and Catholicism in particular, with the nomination of Judge Amy Coney Barrett to the Supreme Court. But what is Christianity? Is it merely a religion? Judge Barrett is a “Charismatic Catholic”. What’s the difference? With so many “Christian” denominations which one is right? Is everyone who calls themselves a Christian really a Christian? What does it mean to “need Jesus”? Is everyone who says they’re Christian really saved and going to heaven when they die? Should someone who calls themselves Christian be involved in politics and should they let their beliefs guide their vote? Should Christian celebrate Halloween? What about Christmas? Isn’t it based on a pagan holiday? All these questions are important and I’ll be writing and talking about them over the next few weeks. Let’s start with the big question… What is Christianity? Also answered: Why Do We Need Jesus? What do Christians worship? Are Catholics Christians? When Were the Followers of Jesus First Called “Christians”? Click on over to my blog to watch a video "What is Christianity" and see the timeline when the Roman Catholic Church split from Christ.... If you want to reap all the benefits of salvation including the 1-way, non-stop ticket to Heaven then… Believe. Repent. Be Baptized. Receive the Holy Spirit. Pray this prayer humbly and wholeheartedly… “Dear Lord Jesus, I know I am a sinner. I believe You died for my sins. Please forgive me. Right now, I turn from my sins and open the door of my heart and my life to you. I confess You as my personal Lord and Savior. I surrender my whole life to you and I will follow you for the rest of my life. Thank You, Jesus, for saving me. In Jesus' name, Amen.” Jesus is coming back soon! Are you ready? Apparently, it has become a "thing" for Christian women to take "boudoir" photos. Boudoir photography is a "photographic style featuring intimate, sensual, romantic, and sometimes erotic images of its subjects in a photographic studio, bedroom or private dressing room environment, primarily intended for the private enjoyment of the subject and his or her romantic partners." Theology For the Rest of Us | Quick Answers to the Questions About God and the Bible
The Christmas season has many traditions. One of the most famous traditions in the United States is the Santa Claus myth. This is begs the question: Should Christian parents raise their own kids to believe in the myth of Santa? Why or why not? And if not, how do we handle this with our kids? In this episode, Kenny tackles the importance of being prayerful and intentional whenever we make decisions as to what elements of our culture we engage with and which elements we choose to abstain from. Kenny gives two compelling reasons as to why parents ought to seriously consider abstaining from the practice of raising kids to believe in Santa. And gives us some thoughts on how to handle this character with our children.
Consider the Trinity and explore what Daniel I. Block states in “For the Glory of God: Recovering a Biblical Theology of Worship”. "The worship that the New Testament ascribes to Jesus contrasts sharply with the inattention given to the Holy Spirit, the Third Person of the Trinity. While many doxologies glorify God generally, without specifying a person within the Trinity, the focus is usually on God the Father and in some cases on Jesus Christ. Remarkably, the doxologies never ascribe praise, honor, glory, dominion, or power to the Holy Spirit. This reserve is consistent with the portrayal of the Spirit generally in the New Testament. No one addresses the Holy Spirit in prayer, or bows down to the Holy Spirit, or serves him in a liturgical gesture. Put simply, in the Bible the Spirit is never the object of worship. This interpretation is reinforced by Philippians 3:3, in which Paul disavows the circumcision practiced by his own people as false . . . Should Christian worship be trinitarian or binitarian-addressing only the Father and the Son? If we agree that it should be trinitarian, how would this look in practice? The biblical pattern suggests that this does not call for the three persons of the Triune God to receive equal and identical attention in worship. The pattern established by Jesus in the Lord's Prayer (Matt.6:9-13) appropriately addresses praise and prayer to the Father, though other texts demonstrate that these may also be directed to the Son. When we read Scripture, the focus will be on God the Father or Jesus Christ the Son. However, it seems that the Holy Spirit is most honored when we accept his conviction of sin, his transforming and sanctifying work within us, and his guidance in life and ministry, and when in response to his leading we prostrate ourselves before Jesus. The spirit is also honored when we give thanks to the Father and the Son for his presence and work within us, referring to him in the third person rather than addressing him directly. We are trinitarian when we acknowledge the presence and roles of all three persons of the Trinity, when we recite the trinitarian formulation of the rite of baptism (Matt. 28:19), and when we hear the benediction with which people are sent into the world at the end of corporate worship: "The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with you all" (2 Cor. 13:14[13]). But trinitarian worship need not be balanced, if by balanced we mean giving the three persons of the Godhead equal time and space. True Christian worship focuses particularly on Christ, through whose sacrificial death and justifying work sinners are qualified for worship, and through whose resurrection they hope in eternal life and worship in the presence of God. This christocentric focus is most evident in Revelation 5:1-14. Having introduced the One who is worthy of worship as the Lion of Judah, the Root of David, and the Lamb, the passage offers three reasons why he is worthy of worship: (1) he was slain-the historical fact; (2) with his death he purchased for God a people from every tribe and nation-the missiological fact; and (3) through him the redeemed are made to be a kingdom and priests to God, and they shall reign on earth- the ecclesiological and eschatological fact. This worship begins with worshipers on their knees, is focused on the Son, and involves enthusiastic songs of praise and prayer." Explore Block's comments of the doxology and Gloria Patri. The Holy Spirit points us to Christ.
