Suffering & God's Response Pt. 3 Why Am I Suffering? By Louie Marsh, 3-23-2025   Last slide – Don't know what he died of.   1) God ALLOWS  us to experience the consequences of Free Will.   “15And if it is evil in your eyes to serve the Lord, choose this day whom you will serve, whether the gods your fathers served in the region beyond the River, or the gods of the Amorites in whose land you dwell. But as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.”” (Joshua 24:15, ESV)   2) Why doesn't God DESTROY evil & suffering?   · The Argument Against God.   ¨ If a good, eternal and all-powerful God exists, He could annihilate evil at will, and thus end all pain and suffering. ¨ A Being who had the power to do this, is cruel and unjust not to exercise this power and thus end all evil and its consequences. ¨ Theism (the belief in one God – Christianity is Theistic) affirms the all-powerful, loving God we have just described; Who never the less does not annihilate evil. ¨ Therefore: He is cruel and unjust, or He does not exist!   · What's Wrong with the Argument? ¨ It places a restriction on the nature of God, something you can NEVER do!   “35all the inhabitants of the earth are accounted as nothing, and he does according to his will among the host of heaven and among the inhabitants of the earth; and none can stay his hand or say to him, “What have you done?”” (Daniel 4:35, ESV)   ¨ It presupposes that our reasoning processes are equal or superior to God's, and that our solution must be the right one!       "My thoughts are completely different from yours," says the Lord. "And my ways are far beyond anything you could imagine. For just as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts higher than your thoughts. Isaiah 55:8-9 (NLT)   ¨ It doesn't work when you try and apply it practically.   Tell Dr. Walter Martin Story of being on the radio with an atheist challenging him to do this as a philosophical experiment.   3) How Then Should I Respond to Suffering?   · I need to ACCEPT that suffering will happen to me and mine.   18  “If the world hates you, know that it has hated me before it hated you. 19  If you were of the world, the world would love you as its own; but because you are not of the world, but I chose you out of the world, therefore the world hates you. John 15:18-19 (ESV)   · I need to REMEMBER that God is active in my suffering.   20  As for you, you meant evil against me, but God meant it for good, to bring it about that many people should be kept alive, as they are today. Genesis 50:20 (ESV)   · I need to EMBRACE suffering as part of my spiritual growth.   8  Indeed, I count everything as loss because of the surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord. For his sake I have suffered the loss of all things and count them as rubbish, in order that I may gain Christ …10  that I may know him and the power of his resurrection, and may share his sufferings, becoming like him in his death, Philippians 3:8, 10 (ESV)

There's no prophet, statue, or golden plates from the forest that will save you, only the perfect grace of God can. Let Him save you from yourself and be set free from your past.

3 Tough Questions Why Does God Allow Evil? Louie Marsh, 11-20-2022     Mao Zedung Born: December 26, 1893 Died: September 9, 1976, Beijing, Responsible for between 40 and 80 million deaths – most scholars settle around 65 million deaths.   Joseph Stalin Born: December 18,1878 Died: March 5, 1953, Kuntsevo Dacha, Moscow Responsible for between 6 and 23 million people dying.   Adolph Hitler Born: April 20, 1889, Died: April 30, 1945, Berlin, Nazi Germany Responsible for at least 17 million deaths.   TOTAL – OVER 100 MILLION!   HOW CAN YOU BELIEVE IN A GOD WHO LET'S THIS HAPPEN?   Where Does Evil Come From?   1) Satan decided to REBEL against God.   “13You said in your heart, ‘I will ascend to heaven; above the stars of God I will set my throne on high; I will sit on the mount of assembly in the far reaches of the north; 14I will ascend above the heights of the clouds; I will make myself like the Most High.'” (Isaiah 14:13–14, ESV)   2) We have DECIDED to go our own way.   “4But the serpent said to the woman, “You will not surely die. 5For God knows that when you eat of it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.” 6So when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was a delight to the eyes, and that the tree was to be desired to make one wise, she took of its fruit and ate, and she also gave some to her husband who was with her, and he ate.” (Genesis 3:4–6, ESV)   3) God decided to ALLOW  us to experience the consequences.   “17And to Adam he said, “Because you have listened to the voice of your wife and have eaten of the tree of which I commanded you, ‘You shall not eat of it,' cursed is the ground because of you; in pain you shall eat of it all the days of your life;” (Genesis 3:17, ESV)   Why Doesn't God End Evil?   1) The Argument Against God. If a good, eternal and all powerful God exists, He could annihilate evil at will, and thus end all pain and suffering. A Being who had the power to do this, is cruel and unjust not to exercise this power and thus end all evil and it's consequences. Theism (the belief in one God – Christianity is Theistic) affirms the all powerful, loving God we have just described; Who never the less does not annihilate evil. Therefore: He is cruel and unjust, or He does not exist!   2) What's Wrong with the Argument? It places a restriction on the nature of God, something you can NEVER do! It presupposes that our reasoning processes are equal or superior to God's, and that our solution must be the right one! It doesn't work when you try and apply it practically.   Have Someone MAKE THE DECREE!!     God Allows Evil Because…   1) He is GOD!   “8For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, declares the Lord. 9For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts.” (Isaiah 55:8–9, ESV)   He knows far more than we do – and has chosen not to end evil by destroying everything, but to work it out – through what the Bible calls Redemption – bringing everything back to Him.   Because He is God I must BELIEVE IN HIM.   2) He is GOOD!   “18“The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim liberty to the captives and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty those who are oppressed,” (Luke 4:18, ESV)   “17Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom.” (2 Corinthians 3:17, ESV)   “1For freedom Christ has set us free; stand firm therefore, and do not submit again to a yoke of slavery.” (Galatians 5:1, ESV)   He is GOOD – and values FREEDOM! Our freedom, it would be evil to make us obey – evil and of no value what so ever!   Because He is good I must TRUST HIM.   3) He is LOVE!   “7Beloved, let us love one another, for love is from God, and whoever loves has been born of God and knows God. 8Anyone who does not love does not know God, because God is love.” (1 John 4:7–8, ESV)   Love cannot be forced, it must be a FREE choice! Proposing with a gun example! God allows evil because He has to if He is to give us the moral freedom we all need to choose to either love Him or reject Him!   Because He is Love I must LOVE HIM.   4) He wants to bring us BACK TO HIM.   “16“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.” (John 3:16, ESV)   God isn't late with his promise as some measure lateness. He is restraining himself on account of you, holding back the End because he doesn't want anyone lost. He's giving everyone space and time to change. 2 Peter 3:9 (Mes)

Plummer was appointed in 2019 as the first Pentacostal bishop of Israel, representing the predominantly Black church that has nearly nine million adherents worldwide. He was mandated, said Plummer, to "come and embrace Israel," from his position as one of the top African American, pro-Zionist clergy in the US. Berman and Plummer discuss his first few months in Israel, when certain Jewish Israelis felt threatened by his presence and intentions. They also discuss the roots of the Pentacostal Church, evangelical Christianity, Black-Jewish relations in the US and Plummer's plans and experiences in Israel until now. Youtube host and author Chuck Morse discusses his book The War against Judaism: God, Christianity & America. ##### Chuck Morse was disgusted by the hateful vile reaction of followers of white supremacist Richard Spencer who attacked him personally with ugly anti-Semitic texts after he interviewed Spencer on his Youtube show. During the course of the interview, which focused on the evils of white supremacy, Morse happened to mention in passing to Spencer that he is Jewish. "My take away from this experience is that anti-Semitism remains very much alive on the right" observed Morse. "I had assumed that the main area of growth for anti-Semitism in America and the world today had been on the left, with the boycott Israel movement increasingly becoming more openly anti-Semitic, and among Muslims, but I was wrong." I therefore feel compelled to discuss and debate this issue and to debunk the dangerous age-old conspiracy theories that continue to swirl around Judaism and to sound the alarm while drawing from my own experience and from the research I chronicle in my book The War against Judaism, which is a political and philosophical history of the causes of modern anti-Semitism. ####### "Jew-Haters of the world Unite! You've got nothing to lose but your souls, your freedom and civilization itself" declares Youtuber and author Chuck Morse in The War against Judaism, God, Christianity & America, Morse links the recent rise of antisemitism in the world, as documented by a new ADL survey, with a rise in anti-American, anti-Western and anti-Christian beliefs. He traces the modern origins of those beliefs to the emergence of the international left in the 19th Century. Morse examines the history and the philosophical orientation of the modern antisemitism that gave rise to both the Nazi Holocaust and the current genocidal agenda of radical Islam as expressed in the war against the State of Israel. He exposes an unholy philosophical linkage between the Islamic war against Israel, and by extension the war against the western democracies and moderate Islam, and the left. Morse, the author of The Nazi Connection to Islamic Terrorism, published by WND Books in 2010, leaves no stone unturned in his quest to understand and expose anti-Semitism. His research leads him down several controversial paths including a tough criticism of what he calls a poisonous and corrupting element that worked its way into the Jewish fabric starting with the 17th century false messiah Shabtai Zvai. Morse fearlessly analyses "The Protocols of the Elders of Zion" and raises the controversial connection between the numbers of former Jews who embraced the Bolshevik Revolution and the subsequent false conspiracy theories promoted by the Nazis. #####

“Forget the former things; do not dwell on the past.  See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the wilderness and streams in the wasteland. Isaiah 43:18-19 (NIV)  God doesn't just want to do a new thing some day… He is doing a new thing today! …I am the Lord. I will free you from your oppression and will rescue you from your slavery in Egypt. I will redeem you with a powerful arm and great acts of judgment.  I will claim you as my own people, and I will be your God. Then you will know that I am the Lord your God who has freed you from your oppression in Egypt.  I will bring you into the land I swore to give… Exodus 6:6-8 (NLT) A season of new LIFE Behold, I am making all things new… Revelation 21:5 (ESV) Life OUR way will never compare to life GOD'S way. But that's no life for you. You learned Christ! My assumption is that you have paid careful attention to him, been well instructed in the truth precisely as we have it in Jesus.  Ephesians 4:22-24 (MSG) Since, then, we do not have the excuse of ignorance, everything—and I do mean everything—connected with that old way of life has to go. It's rotten through and through. Get rid of it! Ephesians 4:22-24 (MSG) And then take on an entirely new way of life—a God-fashioned life, a life renewed from the inside and working itself into your conduct as God accurately reproduces his character in you. Ephesians 4:22-24 (MSG) A season of new IDENTITY Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new. 2 Corinthians 5:17 (NKJV) Religion is us trying to get prove love to God… Christianity is God trying to prove His love to us. For HE CHOSE US…in him before the creation of the world to be holy and blamelessin his sight. In lovehepredestinedus for adoption to sonshipthrough Jesus Christ, in accordance with his pleasure and will…Ephesians 1:4-5 (NIV) In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, in accordance with the richesof God's gracethat he lavished on us… Ephesians 1:7-8 (NIV) A season of new PURPOSE God saved you by his grace when you believed. And you can't take credit for this; it is a gift from God.  Salvation is not a reward for the good things we have done, so none of us can boast about it. Ephesians 2:8-9 (NLT) For we are God's masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago. Ephesians 2:10 (NLT) The position you play is important to the success of the whole team. Don't you realize that in a race everyone runs, but only one person gets the prize? So run to win! 1 Corinthians 9:24 (NLT) All athletes are disciplined in their training. They do it to win a prize that will fade away, but we do it for an eternal prize. 1 Corinthians 9:25 (NLT) So I run with purpose in every step. I am not just shadowboxing. 1 Corinthians 9:26 (NLT) A season of new OPPORTUNITY And we know that God causes everything to work togetherfor the good of those who love God and are called according to his purpose for them. Romans 8:28 (NLT) "I talked to him about where he wanted to go in the future, That's one of the things my dad always used to say to me when he was alive. 'Don't worry about where you are so much. What are you going to do to make it better?' And that's what I kept asking Mike. 'Where are you going to go from here?” – Tony Dungy So how do we truly step into the NEW season God has for us? 1. Leave the past behind. “There is no middle ground here; we are embracing our past or embracing our future.  We can't do both at the same time.” – Pastor Brady Boyd 2.  Check your attitude. How we leave one season will determine how we enter the next. 3.  Trust the process. And I am certain that God, who began the good work within you, will continue his work until it is finally finished on the day when Christ Jesus returns. Philippians 1:6 (NLT) There is no prerequisite for salvation, but there is a process to Christianity. I will bring you into the land I swore to give… Exodus 6:6-8 (NLT)

Are all religions the same? The Dalai Lama often refers to the ‘oneness’ of all religions, the idea that all religions preach the same message of love, tolerance and compassion. But are all religions essentially the same? They certainly have a common moral standard, more or less, that we ought to live by. But they differ in how to resolve our failure to live up to this standard. According to author Stephen Prothero, to claim that all religions are the same is to misunderstand that each attempts to solve a different human problem. In his book God Is Not One: The Eight Rival Religions That Run the World-and Why Their Differences Matter he shows that religions vary significantly, because they see humanity’s plight as different problems, with different solutions: Confucianism: the problem is chaos / the solution is social order Hinduism: the problem is reincarnation / the solution is spiritual liberation Buddhism: the problem is suffering / the solution is awakening Islam: the problem is pride / the solution is submission to Allah Judaism: the problem is exile / the solution is to return to God Christianity: the problem is sin / the solution is salvation by faith How can we know which one is right? They can’t all be right, because they’re not all addressing the same root problem. Despite some aspects of truth being found in many religions, which one addresses the core issue of mankind’s problem? Is faith always the way of salvation? Christianity says that the problem is rooted in sin, and that salvation is through faith alone. But then, others say that faith is believing the unbelievable! Isn’t faith a leap that is disconnected from reality? Isn’t faith believing without evidence, as some atheists would say? On the contrary, faith is believing the evidence. Faith that is not based in reality is faith in faith, not faith in truth. Faith in faith was very popular after World War II. Mark Pinsky comments in an interview on his book The Gospel According to Disney: Faith, Trust, and Pixie Dust that: Will Herberg’s book Protestant, Catholic, Jew, … was written in 1955. His thesis was that America’s civic religion was faith in faith—that is to say, faith in a nonspecific, non-sectarian faith. Or, as Eisenhower put it, “I don’t care what you believe in as long as you believe in something.” When people say; “Just believe” or “Have faith,” we can’t just believe that faith itself is the solution. It is who or what we are believing in that matters. The faith that produces results But how can we know what to believe in? And how can we know that it is the right belief? This is the question that the Apostle John answers in 1 John 5:1-12. Following on from his teaching in the previous chapter that the evidence of godliness in the lives of believers shows that they are God’s children (see last week’s podcast), John takes a different tack, based on the same evidence. In 1 John 5:1-12, he not only tells us that we ought to accept the testimony of God above that of what people say is true, by pointing to the dual witnesses of Jesus’ baptism and his death to disprove a heresy that was present in his day. He goes further and shows that the faith that overcomes worldliness, the faith that produces evidence of changed lives, the faith that has life from God, is the faith that works in reality. He shows that Jesus is the one we should believe in if we want to see evidence of faith that works, religion that changes lives towards godliness. While John’s argument in 1 John 4:7-21 is that the evidence proves that a believer is a child of God, in 1 John 5:1-12 his argument is that the same evidence validates the message that Jesus Christ is the one we should have faith in. The work of the Holy Spirit in the lives of God’s children is a third testimony to the truth of the gospel. The real and tangible evidence of lives where the life from God can be seen in practice not only validates that believers in Christ are God’s children, but that belief in Christ is what results in life from God: And this is the testimony: God has given us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. He who has the Son has life; he who does not have the Son of God does not have life. (1 John 5:11–12, NIV84)

Teacher: John Schoenheit Jesus Christ showed us how to reach out with the love of God. He loved both the sinners and the Pharisees who were around him. In so doing, he left us a model to follow and showed that the language of love is universal. By John Schoenheit
