Joseph Rojas is the lead Singer of Christian Rock band "Seventh Day Slumber." He tried to commit suicide following a cocaine binge, and became a Christian while being taken to the hospital in an ambulance. He continues to share his testimony of hope and healing. The band remains dedicated to addressing issues like addiction, depression, and self-worth through their music, ministry, and live performances, inspiring fans from all walks of life.
On today's show, we chat with Magdalene Rose! Magdalene Rose started her career at a young age in a band with her sisters called "The GFM Band" and has always had music in her blood. When her sisters decided to pursue their own paths, she forged ahead to create something new, exciting, and entirely her own to carry on the next chapter of "Beautycore."Maggie is no stranger to touring, but as a solo artist, she is just getting started...That being said, she is a force to be reckoned with on the stage. Being backed by some of the most talented musicians in the industry, Magdalene Rose is bringing her high-energy performances to audiences around the country and is delivering an unforgettable show that leaves fans begging for more.Within her first few months of touring, she had already shared the stage with some of Rock's heaviest hitters, including Fozzy, P.O.D., and Drowning Pool. She has also toured with Seventh Day Slumber for most of 2023, spreading a message of hope all throughout the U.S. and Canada. Magdalene Rose is a rising star in the Rock/Metal world and her live performances are not to be missed. Her new single called "Teeth Eater." The song describes her story of overcoming anorexia and her struggles with body image, and strives to help others feel less alone if they have struggled with similar problems. Healing is possible. She wanted to do something similar to Project Semicolon, but geared toward anyone who has struggled with an eating disorder, body dysmorphia, or body image issues. Instead of a semicolon, she is inviting people to get a tattoo of a tooth. As people see the tooth, they will be reminded of what they have overcome and that there is a community of people with similar stories, cheering each other on. officialmagdalenerose.com @officialmagdalenerose christianmusicguys.com @christianmusicguys

Today's show I sit down and talk to Rapper DaMAC, Resurrection Record's new artist. Who is Damac? The ministry began in 2007 after Michael Lacoste accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord & Savior. It happened in his dorm room at the University of Missouri – Columbia. With a newfound faith, and a passion for youth, his mission became clear: create art that magnifies Jesus and influences the youth. How would he accomplish this? By breaking boundaries and blending different genres of music. In other words, he wanted to make Deeply Anointed Music About Christ (Damac). His first concerts were in front of small groups of students, usually at local youth centers and retreats. The size of the crowd did not matter at all; it was all about sharing Jesus. Since then, Damac has gone on to do great things in Christian music. Damac has released seven albums (Immaculate, Climactic, Supremacy, Journey, The Elephant in the Room, Hear No Evil, See No Evil, Speak No Evil, and For Mama Mac) selling over 10,000 copies independently. In 2011, he was the New Band Showcase Winner at Cornerstone Christian Music Festival. In 2011 & 2012, he was a part of The Extreme Tour, a national Christian music tour. Also in 2011 & 2012, Damac was co-headliner/co-organizer of The Hipster-Hop Tour, a 20 city stop tour. In 2013, Damac signed a recording contract with Rottweiler Records, an independent music label. In 2014, he organized The Supremacy Tour, a 20 city stop tour. In 2015, Damac opened for Red Jumpsuit Apparatus and American Idol Season 11 Finalist, Colton Dixon. In 2016, Damac was co-headliner/co-organizer of The Make Jesus Famous Tour, an 8 city stop tour. Damac has shared the stage with some of the biggest names in Christian music today, such as David Crowder, NF, Sidewalk Prophets, Micah Tyler, Jordan Felix, KB, Cory Asbury, Sho Baraka, Canon, Britt Nicole, Seventh Day Slumber, Building 429, FF5, Tenth Avenue North, Trip Lee, Derek Minor, We Are Messengers, Plumb, Gungor, Propaganda, and Lecrae. Since 2016, Damac has worked with 2x - Grammy and Dove Award nominated producer, Jonny Grande, to produce his albums “Journey”, "The Elephant in the Room", "Hear no Evil, See No Evil, Speak No Evil," and "For Mama Mac." Jonny Grande has produced for artists such as Jason Derulo, Ty Dolla $ign, George Clinton, Ke$ha, Zauntee, Toby Mac, Steven Malcolm (Word Records), and Tony Tillman (RMG). In 2024, Damac signed a recording contract with Resurrection Records. A decade & 500 shows later, with thousands of people reached, the mission has not changed: make music that glorifies Jesus and reaches people. Damac says, “I'm just trying to be obedient to my calling and see lives changed through the power of the Gospel.” Some things will never change

This week's stories are set an ocean apart, but share a common thread of two individuals placing their trust in God to be a lighthouse in the dark while mapping a new course for their lives. Joseph Rojas, the lead singer of the Christian rock band Seventh Day Slumber, candidly shares a background where abuse, addiction, and suicidal ideation haunted his days, and how that led to a rock-bottom moment in the back of an ambulance, where he had a life-changing encounter with God. Author and podcaster Monica Swanson is a mom to four boys who she decided to start homeschooling when they were elementary age. Though Monica and her husband initially had doubts about handling the boys' education, they leaned into the task and discovered some of the benefits of this type of education, and now help others who desire to choose this route for their own families. I was talking with my heart to God. I don't remember exactly what I prayed, probably something along the lines of, God, if you'll still have me, if you still want me, I'll give my life to you.” - Joseph Rojas “When I saw the people come forward and give their hearts to the Lord, I said, ‘That's what I want to do.'” - Joseph Rojas “I wish that someone would have told me earlier on that I need to quit looking to everybody else to try to tell me who I am…At the end of the day, if you want to know who you are, you should ask the One who created you, and He will tell you that you're not a throw away, that you're not a lost cause, that you're not too fat, that you're not stupid, that you're not worthless. He'll tell you that you are loved beyond measure.” - Joseph Rojas “Faith has been a huge element of our homeschool experience, mostly because we've been able to live out the Deuteronomy chapter six idea of talking about God's commands as we get up, as we walk along the road, as we lie down.” - Monica Swanson ________________________ Enjoy watching these additional videos from Jesus Calling YouTube channel! First Episode of the season!!! On todays episode, I sit with Josh and Jeff Redding of MAWCORE! Mawcore is an Alternative Modern Hard Art Rock band, from America, driven to “Flood our World with Hope-Driven Fearless Rock”. Pulling in core elements of grinding guitars, pulsing bass, pounding drums, layered electronica sounds and soring vocals, Mawcore has created their brand of Alt. Modern Hard Art Rock. The band draws upon musical influences from the 70's, 80's, 90's and carries into the present day, stretching and barreling onward towards eternity. From the Hebrew word, meaning “Wellspring”, Mawcore taps into the central line of the hopeless, with a continual supply of hope and life, through faith-based lyrics and a mended-heart filled message Mawcore was formed from the ashes of the former internationally distributed band, Blushing Well, who shared their music with thousands all around the world. They shared the stage with Skillet, Red, Disciple, Seventh Day Slumber, Jeremy Camp, Pillar and countless others. Their music was distributed internationally through Nightmare Records and played by radio stations in The Philippines, Yugoslavia, Norway, Germany, Mexico, Brazil, Italy and the United States. Although the past had crumbled, the three remaining members Joshua, Jeremy and Jeff found themselves with wounds being healed by the music within their core. Being joined by a variety of other musicians and eventually now permanent guitarist Ben, the programming talents of Chris, and the drumming skills of Ryan, they crafted a sound uniquely their own. Each member brings their own reason to keep them going: Jeremy: “For me, life without music is no life at all. I breathe it. I live it. Being in Mawcore is an amplifier for the music in my head”; “Music has shown me that there is a way to overcome fears and insecurities. When faith is tested, there is strength to be found in music with a message”; Jeff: “There is new life when the musician gets to share the journey with his offspring. The journey grows deeper and the passion more fervent when you are fighting for the life of others”; Joshua “If you cut me, I bleed music! This is such a deep part of my healing and knowing that we are sharing this healing with others, has made it all the more intense”; Chris: “The things that once made me feel undone and hurt, I now use to embrace others in their healing. This new journey has played a part in helping me believe that there is always hope and redemption”. These passionate members are fueling the forward motion that is Mawcore! In this life, which can be full of disappointment and difficulties, music can be an avenue by which we can find hope again. Mawcore is on a mission to do just that. Mawcore is: Jeff Redding: Guitars Jeremy Redding: Bass Ryan Rice: Drums Joshua Redding: Vocals Chris Strupp: Programming

Jason sat down with Joseph Rojas of the rock band Seventh Day Slumber. They discussed how he fell into addiction due to the various traumas that he endured in his youth and the consequences of his addiction and how he turned them into his greatest advantage being of service to others and building a stable family life. Joseph Rojas grew up in the housing projects of Victoria, Texas, where gunfire and sirens echoed through the neighborhood. But, for Joseph, the rough streets became a refuge from the nightmare of his home life. He remembers being about three and a half years old and being ten feet away from my father as he beat my mother bloody, and that was the memory he grew up with, of a father. When Joseph was still a small child, his father left the family. Joseph's mother worked long hours to provide for her two boys. Many times they were left to a babysitter that his mom was unaware was abusing her son. Joseph was hurting, empty, alone, and seeking acceptance. That's when he found the wrong crowd along with drugs and alcohol. At the age of 14, he did his first line of cocaine. Before he knew it, a line became two lines, two lines became three lines, and then by the end of it all, at the age of 21, he had a $400 a-day cocaine addiction. Learn how Joseph was able to turn his life around, through faith and support from his mom. How his musical journey saved his life, bringing purpose. Along with his faith, meeting his wife with who he has 3 sons, and how he started the rock band Seventh Day Slumber. This is Joseph Rojas in his own words, on Knockin' Doorz Down. This episode we speak with Joseph Rojas, the lead singer and founder of Seventh Day Slumber, a Christian hard rock band that's been around 25 years! They have had their ups and downs, as well as Joe. He is very candid and humble with us as he discusses how he has navigated his faith with an increasingly more secular Christian music industry, his own struggles, and what God is using them in now. Listen to this phenomenal conversation! This is truly a man of God with a Pastor's heart and a heart for pastors striking a strong balance to Biblical authenticity and crushing legalism unashamedly.
When life gets tough, it's easy to say all the Christian things out loud while being in pain quietly. Joseph Rojas of Seventh Day Slumber shares with us how Christian Rock tends to live in the space of expressing the emotion that is under the surface. As we chat about how music impacts us, Joseph shares a story of a CCM Artist friend who helped him get through one of the toughest parts of his life. We also discuss what it means to come alongside each other when it gets tough.

From the destruction of drug addiction and hopelessness, to the triumph of redemption, Christian artist Joseph Rojas credits music with helping him see the light of salvation. He's on the road most of the year, performing hundreds of concerts in front of thousands of people. More than 100,000 people have made decisions for Christ at his concerts. His group, Seventh Day Slumber is, as he says, about "being real, and connecting with people where they're at." Sharing with others his message of hope and restoration, which he has experienced firsthand.

Is it possible to keep your testimony fresh after telling it night after night on tour in different cities - in front of different crowds - before thousands of people? Listen in now as founder/lead singer of Seventh Day Slumber, Joseph Rojas, shares his testimony of deliverance from a $400 a day cocaine habit - through the prayers of his Mom - and how that testimony stays fresh after two decades of ministry through this iconic Christian band. Closer To Chaos, the much anticipated new studio recording released May 31 on RockFest Records—the groundbreaking label founded by Seventh Day Slumber frontman Rojas last year—Closer To Chaos finds the group returning to their melodic rock roots with a collection of 10 brand new songs. Produced by Seventh Day Slumber’s Jeremy Holderfield, with three selections co-produced and co-written by Disciple’s Josiah Prince, Closer To Chaos tackles a range of issues, including emotional trauma, self-worth and sobriety, among other topics. It became obvious in our conversation that this difficult yet beautiful story of redemption had a lot of twists and turns, in retrospect, but that it’s a story that is still being written as Joe’s teenage son, Blaise, is now part of the band and helping live out his Dad’s legacy in rock and roll evangelism that’s reaching even younger generations. Joseph Rojas is a former atheist who witnessed a domestic violence attack on his mother, suffered abuse at the hands of a babysitter, considered suicide, went through drug and alcohol addiction and was a convicted drug dealer - all by the age of 21. It was his mother that first introduced him to faith and saved his life when he overdosed on cocaine. He found Jesus in the back of the ambulance that day, decided to get clean and found hope and purpose. Through meeting people at bible college, he founded the band Seventh Day Slumber and started releasing meaningful songs like "Caroline". 0-3 minute mark – Luke and Susie intro (guest Joseph Rojas from Seventh Day Slumber and Doctor Justin Coulson) 3-5:05 minute mark – Luke and Susie and Doctor Justin Coulson talked about parents easily angry towards their children and making good and bad choices. Doctor Justin said there are pretty strong reasons we could step away from anger used a verse (Matthew 5) in the Bible where Jesus said that whoever is angry with his brother without a cause would be endangered with His judgement. We should not be angry with our brother nor with our child. Paul said in the scriptures we are supposed to raise our children with nurture and love. There are so many scriptures telling that anger is not one of the fruits of the spirit. Raising our children with the spirit we shouldn't be angry with them even if they challenge us and do stuff that is wrong. 5:06 minute mark – Luke said being angry with our kids is not what we wanna do although sometimes they do things that sometimes infuriate us they give us reason so how do we turn it around because we know it's how we wanna act, what we say and what we do when we're angry is not the parents we wanna be. Dr. Justin said pretend to be Aunt Mary (humorously) just be her for a moment, if that's not gonna work for you, pretend that the child who is challenging you is one of your neighbor's children and you can send them home. 6:07 minute mark – Luke and Dr. Justin talked about humor how it is effective and changes situations. 9 minute mark – Luke and Dr. Justin about transition from being angry to funny. Dr. Justin uses his mantra repeatedly “I'm gonna be calm and kind” until he begins to be calm. Use fun music to get everybody on a great mood. When our kids are ticking us off, instead of getting furious get curious. We should understand not reprimand. Children do not intend to make their parents' lives horrible, maybe they're having a hard time, and if they are challenging us, it's not necessary for us to get mad which is where we need to work out with what's going on with their lives and see if we can help them solve those needs they have. 11:27 minute mark – The Dodgy World of Sports (Rio Updates) plus commercial 15 minute mark – Luke and Susie intro, guest Joseph Rojas from Seventh Day Slumber and they talked about his journey (domestic violence, suicidal tendencies, depression, abused by baby sitter, drugs, alcohol, hurt, pain, crime, selling drugs, being in trouble with the law, aetheist), Mom gave her life to Jesus when Joseph Rojas turned 18 years old. In episode 50, Brenton and Bryant have the opportunity to sit down with Brandon Bagby. Brandon, originally from Louisiana, began playing guitar at the age of 14. The self-taught guitarist landed his first “pro gig” playing guitar for Vertical Music / Integrity Music worship artist Jason Morant in 2004 at the age of 21. Brandon finished college with a Bachelor’s Degree from Southeastern Louisiana University in late 2005. Questioning his next steps, he moved into a corporate career setting. At the same time, Brandon played in bars and churches in the local Baton Rouge and New Orleans community. In May 2009, Brandon made a career change and decided to finally move to Nashville, TN to pursue a full time career in music. Since moving to the “Music City,” Brandon has had the pleasure of hitting the stage with artists such as All Sons & Daughters, Cory Lamb, Know Hope Collective (an Audio Adrenaline worship project), Meredith Andrews, Seventh Day Slumber, SHeDAISY, and many more! Brandon is diverse in playing styles such as country, motown, pop, rock, rhythm & blues, and contemporary worship. Whether it’s teaching music theory, how to read number charts, scales… to preparing for an audition, ways to learn songs quickly, or even getting the right tone; Brandon’s goal is to bring his students to a pro playing level! “I don’t just want to teach an average guitar lesson… I’d prefer to mentor and pour into the lives of my students! When I began playing guitar, I wish I would have had someone helping and guiding me to the profession.” Brandon is also a visual artist. Though Brandon has only been painting seriously since July 2009, he uses very mature impressionistic techniques through the use of palette knives. Most of Brandon’s art exemplifies his never-ending passion for music, though he is beginning to explore other avenues of subject matter in his art. In some of his works, you can definitely see an influence of New Orleans styled art. That shouldn’t be much of a surprise knowing the artist spent a portion of his life only sixty-four miles outside of The Big Easy. Brandon graduated from Southeastern Louisiana University in December 2005 with a Bachelor of Arts degree, focusing in Graphic Design. He said that, “while in college, I took only one painting class which was required for my curriculum. Sometimes I wish I would have studied more about painting, but then again, I wonder if I would be painting in a more restricted fashion.” You will find that Brandon piles on large amounts of paint with palette knives on large canvas panels. Photos alone do not bring an ounce of justice to the rich textures of this artist’s work. Brandon’s pieces are definitely a “must see” in person. Many clients say that photos just don’t do the work justice! ⏪ For more information about Brandon Bagby, visit www.brandonbagbyart.com www.audioa.com www.facebook.com/brandonbagbymusic See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

Tony Tillman sits down to discuss his new album, Camden.About Tony Tillman: Raised in a single-parent home in Camden, Arkansas, Tony Tillman was faced with many challenges urban youths face today. In a town where gangs, drugs, and crime thrived, it appeared the only way to escape from his dark reality was through death. God began working on his heart, and with the spiritual influence from a church he began attending, Tony abandoned his criminal lifestyle and found new life in Christ. As Tony grew in his faith, he discovered a love for communicating his experiences thru writing and performing music. He began traveling with Seventh Day Slumber, and opening shows for several CCM and Hip-Hop artists. He has released two successful projects, and will soon release his first official studio album, called Camden, in summer 2015. In his new album Camden, Tony gives us a glimpse of his past, sharing insight on a lifestyle that once defined him.
