You might've forgotten about Disney's Snow White (2025), but we did not forget about it! We went to theaters to take in this disastrous live-action reimagining of Walt Disney's 1937 classic animated film Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. The film generated all sorts of controversies that we'll remind you of. Thanks to an army of trolls, it currently sits at 2.1 stars out of 10 on IMDb. It stars Rachel Zegler as Snow White, Gal Gadot as the Evil Queen, and seven horrific voice/facial motion-captured, computer-animated dwarfs. We'll tell you all you missed in Disney's Snow White (2025)!
For the final Lang Fairy Tales episode of this 'between series break' we have another double bill for you!We begin with Snow White and Rose Red. And if you thought the recent Disney adaptation missed the mark compared to the original, you need to check out the original and imagine how different and brilliant a film they could have made. Then it's time for another tiddler: Toads and Diamonds, which plays with similar ideas, including models of sisterhood - and this one we would truly love the 'House of Mouse' to have a go at! If you are unfamiliar with the Lang Fairy Tales, these seminal collections were assembled between 1889 and 1913 by a married couple, folklorists and translators Nora and Andrew Lang, with most of the work done to compile them completed by Nora, also known as Leonora Blanche Alleyne.Assembled and published in 12 colour-coded "Fairy Books," the corpus the Langs put together included 798 fairy tales from across cultures, many of which had never before been translated into English. They were amongst the most influential books of their time, changing the course of children's literature - although they're hardly just for children, and often deal with quite challenging concepts.Today, purchasing a complete set of the Lang Fairy Books in good condition costs over £4,000 ($5,000+).Thankfully, the collections are all out of copyright, meaning that we can now tell these stories, in podcast form, many for the first time, and share them with a global audience, for free. Our plan is to release the stories between main series of Three Ravens, performing them straight (though with plenty of silly voices) letting the tales speak for themselves in all their madcap, sharp-edged, often quite bizarre glory. The only edits we have made are to amend some culturally-insensitive epithets, which typically pertain to ethnicity, with any such edits made by Eleanor Conlon.Three Ravens is an English Myth and Folklore podcast hosted by award-winning writers Martin Vaux and Eleanor Conlon.Released on Mondays, each weekly episode focuses on one of England's 39 historic counties, exploring the history, folklore and traditions of the area, from ghosts and mermaids to mythical monsters, half-forgotten heroes, bloody legends, and much, much more. Then, and most importantly, the pair take turns to tell a new version of an ancient story from that county - all before discussing what that tale might mean, where it might have come from, and the truths it reveals about England's hidden past...Bonus Episodes are released on Thursdays plus Local Legends episodes on Saturdays - interviews with acclaimed authors, folklorists, podcasters and historians with unique perspectives on that week's county. With a range of exclusive content on Patreon, too, including audio ghost tours, the Three Ravens Newsletter, and monthly Three Ravens Film Club episodes about folk horror films from across the decades, why not join us around the campfire and listen in?Learn more at www.threeravenspodcast.com, join our Patreon at www.patreon.com/threeravenspodcast, and find links to our social media channels here: https://linktr.ee/threeravenspodcastThree Ravens is a myth and folklore podcast hosted by Eleanor Conlon and Martin Vaux.In each Monday episode we explore a historic county, digging into heritage, folklore and traditions, then we tell a new version of a legend from that county. This week on FratChat, we're diving face-first into the flaming dumpster that is corporate PR gone wrong! From Kendall Jenner trying to solve racism with a Pepsi, to Disney's drunken dwarfs getting handsy at a Snow White promo party, we're counting down the absolute wildest, cringiest, most catastrophic public relations disasters ever. We're talking exploding phones, 'dead dad' fish sandwiches, beige hoodies of unity, and one oil spill so bad it literally invented modern crisis PR! Plus, the inbox is unhinged as usual. Jason from Jersey City writes in with a wedding garter story that ends with a faked foot injury, a 78-year-old aunt, and possibly a breakup. Fabio from Nashville needs advice on dating someone with a different level of ‘outness.' And in the news: a headline so unhinged we just say, “WTF?!” And in our “Not the Drag Queens” segment, we check in on which powerful people REALLY don't want Epstein's files unsealed. Spoiler: it's not the ones in heels. All that and more on this week's episode of FratChat! Got a question, comment or topic for us to cover? Let us know! A classic, rehashed. (Yes, that's a semi-pro Snow White model)
I remember watching Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs on VHS with my parents when I was very young. That memory is still fresh. The soft hum of the tape rewinding, the old Disney clamshell case with the artwork, and the joy of seeing the dwarfs move across the screen—it all left a mark. This postcard brings that moment rushing back, showing one of the most cheerful and well-loved scenes in the movie: Snow White dancing while the dwarfs play music around her. Even today, it's easy to recognize the details. You can see the wooden cottage, the carved furniture, and the happy expressions on the characters. Dopey is front and center, his oversized sleeves dangling while he claps. Grumpy is off to the side, reluctant as always, but still involved. Each dwarf has their place, and you can almost hear the music just by looking at the image. That was the magic of the original movie—every scene was filled with color, personality, and life... This week we review and discuss the live action remake of "Snow White". Does Disney accomplish their goal of making this a modern story? How do we feel about the changes to the songs? Remakes continue to proliferate on our screens. Over the last few months, we've had live action remakes in cinemas of classic animations Snow White, Lilo And Stitch, and How To Train Your Dragon, along with legacy reboots of the horror hit I Know What You Did Last Summer and DC's Superman, and - coming soon - a new spin on the 1980s comedy The Naked Gun.So is this all just evidence of a dearth of creativity in Hollywood? Or are there some artistically valid reasons to re-make existing films? And can a remake ever be better than the original? Ellen E Jones and Mark Kermode delve into the past, present and future of the remake. Mark speaks to critic Anne Billson about the remakes she considers worthy of our attention, from Brian De Palma's Scarface to John Carpenter's The Thing. And he also talks with Jim McBride who, in 1983, directed Breathless - a remake of Jean-Luc Godard's French New Wave classic A Bout de Souffle, which Mark has long considered superior to the original.Ellen talks to TV critic Roxana Hadadi about what television can bring to the remake party - and about the TV series that managed to improve on their source material. And Ellen also speaks to Noah Hawley, showrunner of the multi-Emmy winning Fargo and upcoming Alien: Earth TV series, about the creative possibilities of TV reboots. Producer: Jane Long A Prospect Street production for BBC Radio 4

“Why did Walt Disney borrow against his life insurance—and what does that have to do with a pink pistol, a serial butt slapper, and a college freshman named Larry?” In this wildly entertaining and insight-packed episode, Kent Hance weaves together stories that span from the moon landing to Mickey Mouse, from late-night TV to freshman orientation at Texas Tech.
This week welcome Stacie Greenwell into the Pol' Atteu Beverly Hills Boutique. Hollywood may be built on stories, but few are as fiercely fabulous and unexpectedly heartfelt as hers. In our dazzling “Undressed” sit-down, we welcome the award-nominated scene-stealer whose breakout line “F*ck the police” from Amazon Prime Video's Cross had fans gagged—and law enforcement shook! Kicking things off with signature sass, we roll out the red carpet for Stacie (yes, in green!) and dive into her seriously stacked resume—from Shameless to Sharp Objects with Amy Adams, to Big Little Lies with Reese Witherspoon and The Pit (hello, twisted testicles!). She spills all about being handpicked by the late, legendary director Jean-Marc Vallée, who kept sliding her into emotional scenes because he saw something extraordinary in her. Spoiler alert: he was right. But the real plot twist? Before stealing scenes on screen, Stacie was slaying in the courtroom. A University of Virginia Law grad and former Washington D.C. bankruptcy attorney, she recounts the life-changing moment in a law library when a voice whispered, “This is not your life.” One mock trial and a wig later, she was hooked on performance—and Broadway, baby! We insist she got off the bus and landed on a billboard. Honestly? Not far from the truth. As the convo heats up, on our Gown and Out in Beverly Hills connections to Modern Family, and bond with Stacie over shared Emmy hopes. (She was submitted for not one but TWO categories: Guest Actress in The Pit and Supporting Actress in Cross—yes, queens manifest!) We even get some juicy Jeff Bezos wedding FOMO, throwbacks to our Emmys encounter, and why Beverly Hills PD officers are hotter than hot. (Six-packs and skincare routines? Sign us up.) The glamour hits a cosmic high with Pol's Armenian coffee reading, which brings chills and truth bombs. An "E" appears in Stacie's cup—revealing Cousin Erica as her spiritual anchor and greatest supporter. The reading also uncovers her desire to write—a second calling that's destined to unlock a whole new dimension of her career. Whether it's a memoir, screenplay, or her own pilot, the universe is saying: the pen is your power, girl. ✍️ This episode is brimming with soul, sparkle, and major laughs—from nipping dogs and self-tape disasters to iconic moments with Martha Stewart, Katie Couric, and Judge Lauren Lake (yes, the singing judge!). It's a masterclass in intuition, reinvention, and letting your spirit lead you from the courtroom to the soundstage.

Jodi, Lara, and Philip discuss the live action Disney remake 'Snow White' from 2025. Directed by Marc Webb and starring Rachel Zegler and Gal Gadot, this retelling expands the story to encompass Snow White's relationship with her parents, having been born during a snowstorm and later suffering the loss of her mother as a child. Gal Gadot's Evil Queen uses her sorcery to enchant the king and amass her power as queen. Thought to be absent on a military campaign, the king is unable to prevent the Evil Queen from inflicting her cruelty upon Snow White and the citizenry. Ever worn a St. Christopher medallion and wondered about the man carrying the Christ child across a river? Or heard of St. Uncumber, the bearded female saint invoked by women desperate to escape unwanted marriages? In this episode of Gone Medieval, Matt Lewis is once again joined by historian and storyteller Amy Jeffs, this time to uncover the fascinating stories of medieval saints connected to the summer months. From the legendary Seven Sleepers of Ephesus—precursors to fairy tales like Snow White and Sleeping Beauty—to England's own warm-weather holy figures, these stories are as strange as they are sacred.More: Edward the Confessor & New Year Saints >St. George & Springtime Saints >Gone Medieval is presented by Matt Lewis. We compared Disney's new live action Snow White with another vibrant iteration of the story: Mirror Mirror. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
We welcome back comedian, author, and former Chelsea Lately star Sarah Colonna for a no-holds-barred Part 2. From influencer lists to psychic warnings, nothing's off-limits. We start by comparing notes on being left out of influencer trips while Sarah confesses, she just came back for another coffee reading. “I just wanted a second opinion,” she laughs. The gang dives into “Haute Topics,” debating Kelsey Grammer welcoming baby number eight at 70. We react to The Chrisleys pardoned by Trump after stealing millions. “How do they get picked over people in for petty crimes?” Sarah wonders. Patrik sums it up: “Best friends with the president.” Next, we rave about Jeremy Allen White (Sarah's Shameless co-star) starring as Bruce Springsteen in a new biopic. Sarah shares she met him at table reads and jokes she wants to cameo as Courtney Cox in the “Dancing in the Dark” video. They debate whether Jeremy can sing or not. On Runway Rundown, the critiques get spicy. Chelsea Handler's silver strapless gown draws mixed reviews—Patrik calls it “prom 1975,” while Sarah defends her ex-boss: “I think it looks good on her!” Elsa Hosk's sheer, couture Cannes gown blows them away: “This is the definition of slay.” Kristen Stewart's cream shorts suit sparks debate over proportions and those controversial bobby socks. When Sarah's own red satin top appears on screen, Patrik calls it “Halloween gone bad.” She promises never to wear it again. In between fashion roasts, they commiserate over self-tape auditions. Patrik groans about taping for parts like crack dealers, plastic-surgery addicts, and porn-star managers. Sarah admits she prefers professional taping studios because filming with her husband is “a recipe for divorce.” Then it's time for Pol's coffee reading—Sarah's main reason for showing up again. He sees: A person close to her (with a “J” in the name) who pretends to be supportive but is actually jealous and waiting for the right moment to sabotage her. A project she's put aside that will unite her stand-up, writing, and acting—her real path forward. A future trip that will be canceled, and she shouldn't force it (“You'll find out later you weren't supposed to go.”). Sarah looks stunned: “I think I know who this is.” They play a game of “Sarah Colonna: Chelsea Lately or Football Wife?” recalling whether she ever flashed an audience (she didn't), spilled a drink on the owner's shoes (also didn't), or got mistaken for a cheerleader (sadly, no). They giggle about Snow White 90210 being called “Little Thunder” at football games. Sarah shares memories of her worst commercial—a Home Depot ad shot near the airport with no AC. “They were mad I was sweating in July!” she recalls. They laugh about how she still does self-tapes, though she'd rather be in the room getting feedback. Wrapping up, Sarah talks about her live shows in Oregon, San Antonio, Las Vegas, Tacoma, and Spokane. She plugs her podcasts: Are You My Podcast with Mary Radzinski The Book Lisp with her husband Jon (“It's about books—and our lisp!”) We end with Sarah declaring she feels “naked and afraid—in the best way.” This is another Hurrdat Media Production. Mike and Champ return to discuss five titles from 2025. Topics include the moody, toe-tapping music and thrills of Sinners, the missed opportunities to dive into the political world of Marvel in Captain America: Brave New World, the authentic balancing act of tradition and drama in House of David and the overblown controversy of Disney's live action remake of Snow White. Also, the Ballad of Wallis Island is a feel-good gem that more people need to see.
The ThawedCast discusses the first feature-length animated film, 'Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs' from 1937. Philip, Jodi, and Lara examine the impact and legacy of this fairy tale classic that would influence countless films over the decades. Snow White is a princess living in a fantastical medieval-style kingdom currently overseen by her stepmother, a vain and cruel queen. When the Queen's envy of Snow White's beauty reaches a breaking point, she conspires to have the princess killed. Snow White is allowed to escape into the wilderness where she meets seven dwarfs. These mysterious, diminutive men are perplexed by their new house guest, but they grow to appreciate her for the kind spirit she is, and are willing to protect her from the Queen's wrath if ever she were to be found. Send us a textWhen Disney unveiled its 2025 live-action reimagining of Snow White, audiences expected a thoughtful update of the beloved classic. Instead, we discovered a bewildering misstep that fails at the fundamental elements of storytelling, character development, and musical composition.Diving deep into this adaptation, we meticulously compare the original animated masterpiece with its modern counterpart, revealing how the remake abandons the narrative clarity and emotional resonance that made the 1937 version timeless. From its opening scene featuring a bloodless childbirth in a pristine carriage to its inexplicable costume changes and nonsensical plot developments, this film consistently makes baffling creative choices. The musical elements prove particularly disappointing. Unlike successful modern musicals that understand how songs should advance plot and reveal character, Snow White's soundtrack relies on simplistic rhyming without memorable melodies or meaningful lyrics. Even talented vocalists can't elevate material that fundamentally misunderstands what makes movie musicals work. We highlight how the film's approach to color (garish primary hues instead of nuanced fairy tale aesthetics), characterization (telling us Snow White is empowered without showing it), and world-building (inconsistent magic rules) creates a frustrating viewing experience for audiences of any age.Perhaps most revealing is our analysis of how the film attempts to modernize its message while inadvertently undermining it—Snow White lacks agency despite being described as inspirational, the dwarves are rendered as unsympathetic CGI creations, and the Robin Hood-inspired love interest fails to develop any chemistry or purpose. The original's simple elegance is replaced with complexity that doesn't serve the story or characters.Have you experienced the disappointment of a cherished classic being poorly reimagined? Share your thoughts in the comments, and join us next week when we tackle Mean Girls: The Musical—hopefully with better results!Written lovingly by AIBe our friend!Dan: @shakybaconTony: @tonydczechAnd follow the podcast on IG: @hatewatchingDAT
Dr. Jordan Peterson offers a psychological and cultural analysis of the Grimm Brothers' Snow White, using it as a lens to explore evolutionary biology, female status hierarchies, fertility suppression, and the pathology of the “evil queen” archetype. Drawing on research in primatology and cultural commentary, Peterson connects ancient folklore to modern dynamics—critiquing contemporary feminist ideologies, careerism, and generational envy, while upholding the redemptive power of masculine responsibility in narrative tradition (and real life). Part myth, part science, part cultural autopsy—this is the synthesis of one of Peterson's most impactful tenants: stories matter, and fundamental stories reiterate across time. This episode was filmed on June 24th, 2025.

One of the most popular fruits in the world are apples. Apples are associated with the Garden of Eden, pleasing your teacher, and the story of Snow White. They play a role in Greek and Norse mythology, and they have lent their name to famous record and computer companies. However, apples are unlike almost every other fruit in that there are thousands of different varieties. The reason why there are so many different varieties is because of the uniqueness of the plant.
