De Red Bull-coureur beleefde een uitstekende zaterdag door eerst de sprintpole te pakken en zich vervolgens een klasse apart te tonen in de kortste race van het Formule 1-weekend. Lewis Hamilton had als tweede man het beste zicht op de Red Bull-auto en heeft naar eigen zeggen veel geleerd. Hij concludeert dat de concurrentie nog extreem veel werk aan de winkel heeft. Gijs Leuvenink en Ronald Vording bespreken het uitgebreid in een nieuwe F1-update, net als wie Verstappen precies complimenteerde via de boordradio, het afhouden van Charles Leclerc richting de eerste bocht en kritiek op het sprintformat in de paddock te Texas.

Hoe Verstappen erover denkt, waarom wielkappen geen oplossing vormen en F1 geen NASCAR moet worden, bespreken Niels Dijksterhuis en Ronald Vording in een nieuwe F1-update. Daarin ook aandacht voor de aanvaring tussen Perez en Hamilton en de hoofdrace van zondag.

Lewis Hamilton moest het zaterdag tijdens de Sprintrace, onderdeel van het weekend van de Formule 1 Grand Prix van België, doen met P7 na een penalty van vijf seconden die de Brit kreeg voor het veroorzaken van een incident waarbij Sergio Pérez zijn sidepod flink beschadigde.

Volgens voormalig Formule 1-coureur Robert Doornbos kan het haast niet anders dan dat Sergio Pérez teamgenoot Max Verstappen zag tijdens de openingsronde van de Sprintrace in Oostenrijk. De Mexicaan duwde zijn teamgenoot het gras op en dat had volgens de analist 'verschrikkelijk fout kunnen aflopen'.

Un sorprendente Jorge Martin trionfa nella Sprint Race di Le Mans, tornando a vincere in MotoGP a quasi due anni di distanza dall'ultima volta. Lo spagnolo del team Pramac parte forte dalla quinta piazza, si incolla alla Ducati di Bagnaia, lo passa e prende il largo tagliando il traguardo in solitaria.

Max Verstappen heeft de sprintrace in Azerbeidzjan als derde afgesloten. De Nederlander liep schade aan zijn vloer op na contact met George Russell in de openingsronde.

De FIA heeft iets over het hoofd gezien met het opstellen van de reglementen voor de kwalificatie in Azerbeidzjan. Het betreft hier de regels voor de banden tijdens de Sprint Shootout, die op zaterdag plaatsvindt in aanloop naar de Sprintrace. De autosportbond was voornemens de fout direct te herstellen, maar de Formule 1-teams staken hier een stokje voor.

Het duurde even, maar er is nu eindelijk duidelijkheid over het format van het sprintraceweekend in Azerbeidzjan. Zoals ook de verwachting was, worden we getrakteerd op een extra kwalificatie, genaamd de 'Sprint Shootout'. De tweede vrije training verdwijnt dus uit het weekend in Bakoe. Het is nog niet zeker of de Grand Prix van Monaco wel door zal gaan. In Frankrijk wordt er hevig geprotesteerd tegen hervormingen van het pensioenstelsel en dat kan mogelijk de plannen van de race in Monte Carlo gaan verstoren.

Vanuit Miami schuift dit keer Mike Hezemans aan om te praten over de Formule 1 in Amerika. Is de sport daar inderdaad zo populair als dat men roept, hoe verhoudt de F1 zich ten opzichte van NASCAR en IndyCar, welke coureur is daar het meest geliefd en hoe staat het met de voorbereidingen op het Miami International Autodrome?
