Deputy National Editor and Formula E Reporter Stefan Mackley is joined on the Podcast by series broadcaster Saunders Carmichael-Brown to go back and forth on their own Top 10 lists and argue their case. Many of the series World Champions make the list such as 2024 series Champion Pascal Wehrlein, Sebastien Buemi, and Jean-Eric Vergne. The 2024 ABB FIA Formula E world championship title fight was blown wide open at the expansive Portland International Raceway as Antonio Felix da Costa scored a remarkable double for Porsche. After scoring zero points in the first three races and having even his position in the Porsche team questioned, da Costa is now an outside bet to become a double Formula E champion in the most unlikely of scenarios. But realistically it's a scrap between Jaguar teammates Mitch Evans and Nick Cassidy, as well as da Costa's teammate Pascal Wehrlein. Just 12 points separate them heading in to the final rounds at London ExCeL Arena in two week's time. Cassidy could and should have put the crown to bed in Portland but both Sam Smith and Andrew van de Burgt analyse how he managed to spin away his chances on the penultimate lap of Saturday's race. The controversial penalty that lost Mitch Evans the win is deep-dived in to, as is the performances of Sunday polesitter Jean-Eric Vergne, Abt miracle maker Nico Mueller and a rejuvenated Robin Frijns from Envision. A typically action-packed Formula E weekend at the energy-bonkers Misano circuit in Italy is debated in this episode with special guest Maserati MSG's Maximilian Guenther. Oliver Rowland and Pascal Wehrlein were the victors but the biggest story of the weekend was Antonio Felix da Costa's bizarre and petty disqualification and the furious exchanges between Porsche and the FIA That is forensically analysed, as is the why Oliver Rowland ran out of energy while starting the last lap handing Wehrlein the win and the championship points lead. Gunther details his races which involved a strong run to third on Saturday, a dust up with Mitch Evans, getting airborne via kerbs and then seeing another points finish on Sunday being taken away for an incident with Jean-Eric Vergne. Hosts Andrew Van de Burgt and Sam Smith also take a wry-eye look at various other flashpoints, decipher the latest paddock news and indulge, for no particular reason at all, in reminiscing randomly about 1980s boxers and the long-forgotten Cagliari F3000 street race. Welcome to Episode 17 of the Lovecars on the Grid podcast! Tiff Needell and Paul Woodman are back with another roundup of motorsport events from the past week! We had quite a few events this weekend, from WEC in Croatia, BTCC in Donington Park, Formula E in Berlin. We've had a reshuffle in the Mercedes F1 garage, plus Silverstone are changing turn 1 after last year's crash with Zhou Guanyu. World Rally Championship of course had a cloud after the passing of Craig Breen in Croatia. Winners Elfyn Evans and Scott Martin paid tribute to the former driver. There was controversy as a co driver had hit seatbelt stuck under his HANS device. The British Touring cars were racing at a very wet Donington Park! After several clashes, and with some comparisons to Formula 1 driver, Max Verstappen, Ash Sutton took the win, followed by Daniel Rowbottom in 2nd place and Dan Cammish in 3rd place. Berlin saw the Formula E racing this weekend. We had climate activists at the race on Sunday, which was rather ironic, but the win went to Nick Cassidy of Envision Racing, whilst second place went to Jake Dennis and 3rd to Jean-Eric Vergne. The World Fanatec GT Challenge took place at Monaco, with a fantastic grid made up of lots of different cars. World Superbikes were in Holland, with Alvaro Bautista winning all three races, Toprak Razgatlioglu and Jonathan Rea all continuing to dominate the season, but why is this? SuperFormula Japan was at Suzuka and NASCAR was at Talledega! Kyle Busch took the win, with Ryan Blaney pushing Bubba Wallace out of the way for 2nd place. We have a very hectic weekend ahead of us, with the first sprint race in Formula 1 2023 happening in Azerbaijan. Indycar are back racing at Birmingham road course. WEC are racing at Spa Francorchamps. MotoGP is also back in Spain, whilst the British Superbikes at Oulton Park and Aussie Supercars, and even the first weekend of the Formula 1 Academy at the Red Bull Ring! What will you be watching? Let us know in the comments!

"Hey Gang - Dre here, editor and all that. Quick note - Yes, this is very late, almost a month so. We're really sorry about that. This had some technical issues that took a while to iron out, and on top of that, we got caught up in the start of F1 season, the surprise of actually getting Ryan Nanni as a guest and Season Previews for all of the big stuff. This won't happen again, and hey, with Formula E back this weekend in Sao Paolo, maybe this could be considered a cool throwback! Apologies again, and hope you enjoy the show anyway." Formula E got down for Round 5 in Cape Town and it produced an all-time classic as Antonio Felix Da Costa and Jean-Eric Vergne, two of the series greats came together in a brilliant back and forth fight for the win, including Da Costa pulling off maybe the greatest pass in series history! ....And yet, Formula E found new ways of kicking its audience in the teeth. A huge suspension issue was discovered during the weekend that led to Seat Cupra and Mahindra withdrawing their cars from the weekend. Combine that was Sam Bird's car unsalvageable from a huge qualifying wreck that could have been avoided with better marshalling and we got a mess of a weekend behind the scenes that led to Formula E's least populated race - Just 17 cars taking the start. Dre, Cam and RJ praised Cape Town for all its good - A genuine step forwards for a series that's starting to outgrow itself in terms of technology and as it at a crossroads as to what it wants to be, but also ponder if it'll ever be taken seriously in a complicated hierarchy of Global Motorsport.

So you mean to tell me that Ryan King only came back on the show because Dan Ticktum got caught speeding at 115mph?! Yes, yes we did! In this episode of Motorsport101, we catch up with more FIA politics as the sport's governing body clarified its stance on political activism during their weekends... and yeah, the Internet flipped out on this one. But was it justified. King helps Dre and Cam explain why it just isn't as simple as saying they're putting the clamps on the drivers. We also talk about Formula E in Hyderabad and it was a classic case of F-E chaos reigning supreme. Jean-Eric Vergne survived a late onslaught from Nick Cassidy despite the latter having nearly 4% more usable energy in a sprint finish. Sam Bird took out himself and his teammate after missing his braking point, and ruined Max Gunther and Sasha Fenestraz's races at the same time. Jake Hughes crashed after his mirror fell off his car and jammed his steering wheel. And Rene Rast altered the title after doing the right thing and avoiding an Oliver Rowland divebomb. Straight over the top of Jake Dennis' Andretti. Jake Struggles is alive and well. A race so crazy, Nico Muller nearly scored points. In a Cupra. Really. I've missed this series. Welcome to the Lovecars On The Grid Podcast, where our presenters, Tiff Needell and Paul Woodman bring us a motorsport roundup from the past week! We have WRC, Formula E and single seater updates this week! But of course, we start with Formula 1 news, where FIA president, Mohammed Ben Sulayem has announced that he will not get as involved in Formula 1. The announcement comes after the FIA President caused more controversy over his sexism comments. Max Verstappen will appear in the upcoming Netflix series, Drive To Survive. The Formula 1 World Champion has stated that he has given Netflix a 30 minute interview on last season. In Women's Motorsport, British driver, Katherine Legge has been announced to be driving at the Indy 500 this year. At the Formula E in India, a new motorsport Championship has been launched for 2024, named ACE Championship. We had a really good rally in the WRC in Sweden, where we had snow and ice. Ott Tänak won the rally in his M-Sport Ford, taking the lead in the final stage from Craig Breen, a now Hyundai driver that used to drive for the Ford team. Formula E were racing in Hyderabad in India. After blocking his fellow drivers, DS Penske's Jean-Eric Vergne brought home the win, beating Envision Racing driver Nick Cassidy in 2nd, and TAG Heuer Porsche's Antonio Felix da Costa who was given 3rd place, following a penalty to Sebastian Buemi. In UK Motorsport, there's a proposal to penalise drivers by 1 second instantly if they put a half a tyre off the track. This would be a UK law for all motorsport taking place in the UK. Furthermore, drivers are not allowed to protest the decision. The Formula Four and Formula Regional Middle East were in Dubai this weekend, with Ferrari academy driver, Tuukka Taponen, appearing to be a shining light in this series. In Formula Regional Middle East, Mercedes academy driver, Andrea Kimi Antonelli took his win and look to be the favourite to win the season. In New Zealand, we had the Formula Regional Oceana, where Austrian driver, Charlie Wurz took the Championship win. Coming up next week, we have the Daytona 500, the Formula Four and Formula Regional have their finales in Abu Dhabi.

We also break down the field team-by-team. It's a very different field from before, down from 12 teams to 11, and some exciting new names. McLaren take over where Mercedes left off with Rene Rast returning. Maserati's first single-seater Motorsport adventure in 60 years, and DS and Penske combining their forces into a superteam with Stoffel Vandoorne and Jean-Eric Vergne becoming quite possibly the strongest driver pairing in series history. Only Jaguar are actually keeping their line-up the same, but can Mitch Evans push for a title for the 3rd year running. Are Porsche leaving soon, and can Antonio Felix Da Costa get them into title contention? And just how many struggles is Jake Dennis due? Hey now, it's been a while, but welcome back to Formula E! And we had some surprises in store when the series returned to New York City! It was a double header weekend, and in Race 1, the story was Nick Cassidy! He won the pole position final duel against Stoffel Vandoorne by 8 thousandths of a second and would then go onto control the race from the front... until rain came down with 10 minutes to go! A torrential downpour had Cassidy, Vandoorne and Mortara all hit a puddle and go flying off into the escape road, red flagging the race, and because the race was called, Cassidy got to keep the win on countback! Should we have had a restart? Jaguar were pissed they didn't, we discuss it! We also had a crazy end to Race 2 with a pileup at the end with Lucas Di Grassi, a spun around Jean-Eric Vergne and Oliver Askew's car in the wall. Race Director Scot Elkins though... didn't call for a Full Course Yellow as Antonio Felix Da Costa held on for his first win of the season from Stoffel Vandoorne second. All this after Nick Cassidy qualified on pole AGAIN, but was sent to the back live on TV for a battery change we all saw coming after yesterday's wreck. Again, we break it all down on the show. And finally, Season 9's calendar was released for 2023, and we got some interesting changes. Provisionally, the series largest ever calendar at 18 races, new rounds in Hyderabad in India, with rumours of Cape Town and a return to China also on the bill. The Jaguar TCS Racing driver proffers his opinion on the controversial decision not to re-start the Saturday race after a localised cloudburst sent several cars, including the leader Nick Cassidy crashing off the track in a bizarre Takeshi's Castle style ending to the race. Evans kept himself in the title hunt with a third place in Sunday's event but Jean-Eric Vergne's non-score casts doubt on his credentials now of grabbing a third title. The trio also look into the confusing penalty given to original Sunday pole-sitter Cassidy, the first win in 14 months for Antonio Felix da Costa and Evans' energetic battle with Mercedes EQ's Nyck de Vries. A look in to whether this was the last New York City event is also discussed, as is the upcoming London EPrix at ExCeL Arena where several track changes should spice up the racing and the title fight. Who was flying on the Marrakesh Express and who was left to crumble like cous-cous in the searing heat of Morocco last weekend? That and several other topics are discussed between host Andrew van de Burgt, The Race's Formula E guru Sam Smith and special guest, Mercedes EQ team principal, Ian James in the latest episode of the Race's Formula E podcast. The intricate choreography of DS Techeetah pair Jean-Eric Vergne and Antonio Felix da Costa and how it allowed Edoardo Mortara the little extra breathing space he needed is mulled over, as is the chronic braking difficulties that blighted James' charge Stoffel Vandoorne. The trio also take a look at how the teammates of the ‘Gang of Four' at the head of the drivers title fight will have a say in where the title rests in just over a month's time when the world championship concludes in Seoul. The seemingly never-ending saga of the 2022 driver silly season is picked apart, and the latest 2023 EPrix venue news is covered in the familiar ‘Sam's calendar update' segment of the show. Formula E headed off to a brand new round as their 2022 season continued, as Jakarta became a well-liked and enjoyable round on the calendar. We talk MITCCCCCCCCCH BRAAAAAAAAAAAH as he claimed a narrow, but frenetic third win of the season over Jean-Eric Vergne and Edo Mortara with just under a second covering the trio over the line. We break down how he won, and how dramatic it was. We also get into an interesting debate over the track itself, and how it... wasn't really a "Street Circuit" compared to most on the Formula E calendar. There's no doubt Indonesia was well received by drivers like Nyck De Vries, Stoffel Vandoorne and others, but we the hosts got into a debate about whether its a good thing the series is turning away from its roots. We also talk Nyck De Vries probably being out of title contention after a puncture ended his race at the hands of Andre Lotterer (again). Should Mercs be telling Nyck to step aside to support Stoffel's campaign? We discuss that and more on Motorsport101!

The Jakarta E-Prix saw the 2022 ABB FIA Formula E world championship hot up almost as much as the throbbing batteries amid colossal heat and humidity in Indonesia last weekend. Casting a cool eye over proceedings this week is ROKiT Venturi team principal, Jerome d'Ambrosio, who joins Andrew van de Burgt and Sam Smith to mull over the action. Mitch Evans claimed his third win of the season in classy style over title rivals Jean-Eric Vergne and Edoardo Mortara, while points leader employed a damage limitation exercise to take fifth after a mistake in qualifying. We drill in to the ‘Gang if Four's' title chances and look at why and how Evans and Jaguar TCS Racing is able to bounce back from non-event races it has suffered such as Mexico and Berlin this season. Also discussed is the now likely curtailed title hopes of Porsche, the on-going disaster of Antonio Giovinazzi's Formula E programme and some interesting news on Nissan's plans for the Gen 3 development testing phase. Episode #364 takes us to Berlin and one of our favourite rounds at Templehof Airport. And for all the chaos that this series tends to provide, this was... a different affair. A calm, energy saving tactical pair of races. And the story of the weekend... was off the track. In Formula E's worst kept secret, McLaren made it official that they're joining the series in Mercedes place as we head towards Gen 3 of Formula E. We talk about the structure of the new team after just moving into Brackley themselves, as well as their potential driver lineup in the future. We know Stoffel's heading to DS Penske, but will Nyck De Vries stick around with Williams rumours persisting? Is Rene Rast, or maybe someone else joining? Also, we talk Edo Mortara. He took nearly 60 points out of Berlin and brought himself right back into contention for the title. But was this a blip for a power-dominant track or a genuine push for Mortara and Venturi? And we had to break down a unique situation in Qualifying and the duels, with Alex Sims and Jean-Eric Vergne having a TIE in qualifying. JEV called it the stupidest rule he's ever seen in his life? But was it, and was there a fairer way? All that and a game of who we piss off the most, on the latest Motorsport101!

A return to Monaco for a race that last year, we called the 2021 Motorsport101 Race of the Year. It was a much anticipated affair, but in the end, Stoffel Season returned to the streets as he took an impressive win over Jaguar's Mitch Evans and DS's Jean-Eric Vergne. We talk about some of the excellent gamesmanship tactics of Stoffel's win, as well as the expense of Porsche's Pascal Wehrlein, who was set to win until a low-voltage battery failure shut his car off from the lead. Safe to say, Cam didn't take that one too well. ...We also discuss Dre's pre-season Jaguar pick. Mitch Evans has gone 1st, 1st, 2nd + Pole in his last three races, as he remains 9 points off the lead of the title. So why is the mood at Jaguar so glum? We dissect some of Sam Bird's struggles as well. We also talk some of the Silly Season news, as it turns out with Mercedes leaving the sport, Stoffel's going with them, heading up a new DS Penske collab with Jean-Eric Vergne, with Antonio Felix Da Costa heading to Porsche to partner Pascal! We break down the moves, as well as King's shock at how it's all come together! And finally, we talk about the release of the Gen 3 car, and try and fail to make jokes comparing the new cars to the Wipeout video game series. But still, 350 kilowatts of power and a 200+ mph top speed has to sound cool, right? All that in a loaded Formula E version of Motorsport101!
