On this episode I discuss privacy regulations with two expert attorneys, Stephanie Webb and Steve Millendorf, both of Foley & Lardner. For startups today, there is a labyrinth of privacy regulations to comply with – and the consequences of being out of compliance can be expensive. If your product will be used in the EU, you'll need to be GDPR-compliant. In California, it's CCPA. And, if children under 13 might access your product, there are Federal laws to comply with. How do startup founders with limited resources navigate privacy regulations and stay compliant as they thrive and grow?
Join your hosts Lea and Sophia as they interview Stephanie in safety swim. They discuss the safety protocols and the float, swim, breath holding rhythm. Stephanie became aware of the ISR program after having almost lost her three year old daughter in a non-fatal drowning accident in her parent's pool. Up until that time, her daughter had taken eight months of private and semi-private lessons at the local community center. After her daughter's accident, Stephanie realized she had learned no actual safety skills or swimming techniques. Her daughter learned that water could be fun, but not that it could be dangerous. Play-based swim lessons only gave her a false sense of security in the water. Three months later, Stephanie enrolled her in the ISR program, along with her one and a half year old baby brother. She was worried about her daughter experiencing trauma getting her back in the water so soon after her accident, but after a couple weeks of tears and a bit of resistance her daughter started enjoying the water again as she learned how to float and swim independently. Her young son also learned how to independently find his float and maintain that float by the end of the session. It was an incredibly emotional process for the family, but so rewarding seeing her children master these incredible skills! Stephanie wanted to make sure no parent ever had to reckon with a life or death drowning situation again in her community, so she became a Certified ISR Instructor in 2020. Her favorite part of lessons is when parents get to swim with their children at the end of the session. It all comes together for each family, and the children are so excited to show off their skills to their parents! Stephanie Webb CA is an Herbalist, Clinical Aromatherapist, and educator working as a botanical formulator and sourcing agent. In this episode, Stephanie talks about the little-known world of a sourcing agent and her remarkable undertaking to bring Vanilla plants, agriculture, and processing to Florida. Through sourcing challenges, she learned about the struggles and complications in the vanilla extract business and has started a domestically grown in Florida vanilla initiative. Where she is connecting with Florida farmers to grow vanilla plantifolia. After many years of research and training, she is now teaching Aromatherapy courses across the country and online, in hopes of sharing her knowledge with others interested in integrative healthcare and wellness. She has taught regularly with the local Residency program as well as regional training for Pharmacists. Her wish is to combine her knowledge and experiences and help everyone she educates to be more comfortable with their health and teach about options we have in healthcare today using plant medicine. After attaining her BFA degree in Art and design Stephanie Webb started her career as an art teacher at the American School of London in 1998. When arriving back, her love of plants translated into design work for her company. She was a guest on the "Martha Stewart Show" and has been acknowledged in several publications such as Vogue for her work as a Mom Entrepreneur. Plants have always been the center of her focus. After closing her retail company in 2006 and having her daughters, Stephanie became interested in the medicinal aspect of Essential Oils and studied Herbalism due to the desire to have the knowledge of how to treat her children safely and naturally. Living on a small farm and treating her family naturally was essential, and finding natural solutions due to severe reactions to antibiotics inspired her to dive deep into plant medicine. Is sugar addiction really a thing? Why does sugar seem to be the root of all evil when it comes to health and wellness culture? Emily Fonnesbeck, anti-diet dietitian, and Stephanie Webb, holistic nutritionist, and certified intuitive eating counselor, are here to answer, is sugar really that bad? Listen to learn... How to identify diet-wellness culture messaging about sugar. What the research about sugar addiction really says and why comparing sugar consumption to drug addiction is problematic. Why the harder you resist eating sugar the more you'll crave it and binge on it. What it means to have full permission with sweets and how to do it. Finally, how to help kids be confident eaters when it comes to sugar and food in general. This conversation isn't about whether or not sugar is healthy for you. (Yes! You need carbohydrates to survive and thrive. No! You don't need sugar 24/7.) It's about how the messaging you hear about sugar affects how you feel about yourself when you eat sugar. In Emily's words, "...to feel out of control with your ability to self-moderate sugar intake, says more about your lack of practice with moderation than a lack of willpower, self-control, or development of addiction. If having Halloween candy in the house is stressing you out and you're feeling the pressure to reign yourself in, this episode will help you calm down (Emily's mantra) around sweets and any other foods you struggle to make peace with. In today's episode, we're talking with Stephanie Webb, a trained Herbalist and Clinical Aromatherapist, about the safe ways to use essential oils in everyday life, but also for certain health issues. Some say that Americans spend more money on pharmaceuticals than any other country in the world. However, America is the sickest country in the world. Can alternative medicine help fix the root problem? Tune in to increase your essential knowledge on essential oils and alternative options as natural remedies! In This Episode: [03:00] Stephanie always had a thing for natural remedies, but it really became her focus when her child had an allergy to penicillin. [04:40] Who came up with essential oils? [07:00] Do only hippie moms use alternative medicine or is there more to it? [11:30] Do different parts of the same plant offer benefits? [18:30] How do we know what essential oil is really organic? [23:20] What does the price of an essential oil depend on? [25:55] How many drops of essential oil do you need? [29:00] The difference between organically sourced and certified organic essential oils. Key Takeaways: People who use natural medicines tend to utilize food as medicine, spirits, meditation and exercise. Due to an excess of information online, you need to do your research to find out what is appropriate for essential oils. You don't want to heat up essential oils. When you heat up essential oils, they can evaporate very quickly and lose a lot of their healing compounds. Testing essential oils is important to ensure what is organically sourced versus what is certified organic. Bio: Stephanie became interested in Essential Oils and Herbalism due to the desire to have knowledge of how to treat her family safely and naturally. She is a trained Herbalist and Clinical Aromatherapist with a passion for helping people reach their full potential either on a personal level with lifestyle changes or helping her clients develop a new product. Stephanie is always seeking new research in the usage of Essential Oils in a therapeutic health setting, by continuing to research and teach others on the healing potential of plant oils, extracts and herbal medicine. Essential Oils have been part of Stephanie's life for 25 years but in the last 15 years she has been using Essential Oils and herbs for true whole-body wellness. The "Western World" has trained most who live here to feel as if monogamy is natural and normal: that it's "just the way thigs are." But humans are not wired up to live in monogamous frameworks. Evolutionarily, we fit somewhere between monogamy and polyamory, and our history as a species makes it easy to recognize why. This week's episode is all about polyamory (poly: many, amor: love). My guest is Dr. Stephanie Webb, whose book, Use Your Words: Opening Language for Open Relationships, examines the link between cultural norms, language and polyamory. Like many things in US culture, love is policed in ways we seldom talk about and hardly notice. The feeling of, "that's just the way things are" is the result of being covertly taught what love can and cannot be.

Do you trust yourself around food? Or do you believe you need an expert to tell you what’s best for your body? If you’ve ever felt guilty for overeating, anxious around sweets, or frustrated by a “lack of willpower,” you may be feeling the impact of diet culture—subtle and overt messages about how your body should look and what it means to be healthy. As a holistic nutritionist and eating psychology coach, Stephanie Webb helps women heal their relationship with food and become confident eaters. Instead of offering a meal plan or macros, Stephanie teaches women to listen to their inner wisdom and make decisions that help them feel satisfied, nourished, and invigorated. In this interview, Stephanie dispels the myth that intuitive eating means giving up on health. Instead, it means trusting your body to know when, what, and how much to eat. It’s a way to practice self-care, while respecting personal preferences. It also means challenging your own weight bias, or the idea that “thin is best.” Stephanie shares simple tips for ditching diet culture and becoming a more intuitive eater. We also discuss how a lack of self-trust around food may be spilling over into the rest of your life—plus, what you can do about it! ALSO IN THIS EPISODE Navigating the uncomfortable transition from dieting to intuitive eating. Putting weight loss on the back burner, even with mobility issues. She talks a lot about intuitive eating, and how we need to better model for our children how to be healthy, but more importantly, being happy with ourselves so that we can live a happier life. You may identify with me and all of my questions, confusion, clarification, and Stephanie was so patient with me! Surprise! I have a bonus episode for you this week, and it's Part Two of my series on Food: How to Use it, Not Abuse it. Cultivating a healthy relationship with food has been a huge part of the work I've done for myself the past 11 years. I'm still focusing on it every day, but I see the improvements I have made that have made it all well worth it. I hope to inspire that in others, too! Part One is here, and there we spent a lot of time talking about what it LOOKS like to have a poor relationship with food and what you can begin to do about it. This episode--Part Two--involves more discussion on specific methods, both of which incorporate embracing a the "grey," ridding ourselves of black-and-white thinking, and moving towards natural moderation with how we view and eat food. The primary focus overall is Intuitive Eating, which is my very favorite eating philosophy. You can find the book here, and I'd definitely start with that; but I do recommend a coach if you are in the throes of trying to figure this out. I can recommend Elizabeth Dall and Stephanie Webb, both of whom are experts on this topic. Elizabeth is the primary Intuitive Eating expert for this episode, but Stephanie was the main expert for the last episode on this topic. (See their contact information below.) The second method is "Flexible Dieting," or also known as counting macros. Amber Brueseke is our expert on this, because not only does she know her stuff, but her whole goal is to move her clients towards Intuitive Eating. In essence, she wants to work herself out of a job. I know you'll enjoy this candid, helpful episode. Please let me know what you got out of it, and share it with those who you feel will benefit from it. “The way that we relate to food is a manifestation of the way we are showing up or engaging in our life.” Ain’t that the truth, friends? This bit of wisdom came from one of the experts featured on today’s podcast—Stephanie Webb. Alongside Elizabeth Dall, we talk about the COMPLICATED relationship all of us often experience with food and what can be done about it. You might call it “emotional eating,” it could be “mindless eating,” under- or over-eating, numbing through food, eating disorders, or just plain obsession over what you will eat and when. No matter how you crack it, these are some of the various ways we can abuse food and it abuse us right back. If you want to know what this looks like, how you can begin fixing it, and why it’s worth doing so, check out today’s episode. If you like the show, please subscribe!!
