Welcome to SEASON 3 of our Susquehanna County Historical Society and Free Library Association podcast, "OFF THE SHELF"! We took a few months off from Season #2 to change the format of the podcast. For the first two years, we use to report on the most read authors from the prior month, but.... we found that that TOP 10 author list changed VERY LITTLE. For 24 months, James Patterson was always #1, and the next nine authors were from a short list of about 20 authors, with very little movement in the rankings. So, our new focus is on library and community programs and information that we think you will find value in listening too! This episode will highlight three important events/programs in the area that are happening soon: 1. The 2022 Montrose Blueberry Festival - Running 5-6 August. 2. A program from PennState Extension: Strengthening Families Program: For Parents and Youth 10-14. 3. The 164'th 2022 Harford County Fair - Running 15-20 August We hope to hear some feedback from you on the new format or what else you would like us to include in the future! You can email us at: info@susqcolibrary.org. If you are a new listener to the podcast, we have a contest that you can enter! Scan QR code to enter! (susqcolibrary.org) We will be back in a few weeks with another episode with more information about our programs, our partners in the community and new books in our collection! --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/howard-burkett/message

I'll recommend five of my current favorite ones. This is a great one to listen to as one year ends and another starts. Is listening to more podcasts going to be on your New Year's resolutions list? Born and attending high school in France, Alex Bourcier was struggling to find motivation in the subjects he was learning. So Alex decided to come to the United States for a year as an exchange student. One thing that immediately shocked him after arriving, was just how difficult and expensive it was to receive healthcare here compared to France. Alex saw this as an issue, and one he was going to try and solve! Alex returned to the US for college at Penn State, where with his friend Kyle, started a student chapter of Remote Area Medical (RAM), an organization providing free clinics for those who cannot afford healthcare. Since their inception just two years ago, RAM@PSU has seen incredible success. With a group of more than 100 active members, they have gone on multiple volunteer trips providing support to clinics in places of need, traveling as far as West Virginia. They are now partnering with providers in Susquehanna County to host a clinic in PA! Alex’s hard work was rewarded with not only a successful club, but more importantly the knowledge of how to repeat this success. His three key takeaways for leadership were: Have a great team Have a clear vision Leaving your ego at the door (Difficult but Important!) Would you agree?
