POPULARITY
I can't quite believe the amount of ground that is covered in the very special conversation I had with multi-award-winning, best-selling author Clare Mackintosh. It really is a podcast of two halves; in the first Clare talks with unflinching candour about losing her son Alex when he was five weeks old. The second is a detailed account of how she creates the amazing books she writes, from the first glimmer of an idea to completion. A true rock star of life, this is an important conversation for those suffering from grief or those supporting someone suffering from grief, it is also an insight for all aspiring writers on how to write a roller-coaster, twist-filled novel and it is a lesson to us all on how to tackle life in the worst and best of circumstances, how to strive for what you want and how to triumph. I took away several lessons from our conversation and am already employing them in my life and they are working! I am sure they will for you too. I am so grateful to Clare for this wonderful conversation. Related Links Clare's Website Follow Clare on Instagram Follow Clare on Twitter

Clare Mackintosh joins Carol Fitzgerald to talk about her latest novel, THE LAST PARTY, which is a blend of police procedural and psychological thriller. It's set on the border of England and Wales, where each country has a lot of national pride at stake when a crime happens across the border. As Clare was writing, she realized that this would be the start of a three-book series featuring Detective Constable Ffion Morgan. She writes from multiple points of view and timelines, and discusses what drew her to write in that style and flesh out so many characters. They both love to swim, though Carol hands the cold water sans wetsuit swims over to Clare. Before You Knew My Name: A Novel by Jacqueline Bublitz Winner of Crime Debut and Readers' Choice Awards—Sisters in Crime “A brave and timely novel.” —Clare Mackintosh, internationally bestselling author of Hostage This is not just another novel about a dead girl. Two women—one alive, one dead—are brought together in the dark underbelly of New York City to solve a tragic murder. When she arrived in New York on her eighteenth birthday carrying nothing but $600 cash and a stolen camera, Alice Lee was looking for a fresh start. Now, just one month later, she is the city's latest Jane Doe. She may be dead but that doesn't mean her story is over. Meanwhile, Ruby Jones is also trying to reinvent herself. After travelling halfway around the world, she's lonelier than ever in the Big Apple. Until she stumbles upon a woman's body by the Hudson River, and suddenly finds herself unbreakably tied to the unknown dead woman. Alice is sure Ruby is the key to solving the mystery of her short life and tragic death. Ruby just wants to forget what she saw…but she can't seem to stop thinking about the young woman she found. If she keeps looking, can she give this unidentified Jane Doe the ending and closure she deserves? A “heartbreaking, beautiful, and hugely important novel” (Rosie Walsh, New York Times bestselling author), Before You Knew My Name doesn't just wonder whodunnit—it also asks who was she? And what did she leave behind?
