Scott Tavlin is a motivational speaker, mindset coach, radio host, and emcee with a powerful message and a story rooted in real loss. His energy is contagious, his presence commanding — but behind the microphone is a son who lost his mother far too soon. Scott's mother battled significant health challenges for years, including a critical ICU hospitalization in 2018 that nearly took her life. Miraculously, she recovered — and the version of her that emerged became one of Scott's greatest inspirations. When she eventually passed, it wasn't without warning — but it still left a hole that changed everything. In this episode, Scott opens up about the complexity of watching a parent fight for their life, the guilt and confusion that came with not knowing how bad things were early on, and the intense desire to honor her by living fully. He shares how he turned to running, coaching, and speaking as emotional outlets — and how the lessons his mom lived by have become the fuel behind his dreams. From marathon training to morning radio, Scott walks us through the way grief shaped every step of his path. This conversation is about identity, legacy, and the power of intentional living. It's about the memory of a mother who poured everything into her family — and a son determined to carry her light forward. If you've ever found yourself growing through grief, this one will stay with you.FOLLOW SCOTT!Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/scotttavlin/Listen to Scotty in the Mornings!Magic 94.9: https://www.mymagic949.com/GIVE THE SHOW A 5-STAR RATING ON APPLE PODCASTS! Most men live soft, sedated lifestyles. Then, they expect themselves to perform at the highest possible standard when life gets real. At best, they wonder why they can't seem to get ahead in their personal and professional lives and, often, chalk it up to luck or poor external circumstances. My guest today, Bedros Keuilian, makes the case that only in adversity is a man revealed to himself and why it's so crucial every man learns to develop the mental fortitude required to succeed in life. We also discuss the how the work we do in private shows itself in public, how to avoid the destructive drift of life, where vulnerability fits into the equation with men, what one question every man is attempting to answer for himself, Bedros' idea of the “Karmic Bank Account,” and why the “covenant of the blood is greater than the water of the womb."   SHOW HIGHLIGHTS (00:00) Episode Intro (01:10) Men's Personal Development Program Misunderstood (09:53) Healing and Bonding Through Adversity (22:41) Men's Accountability and Emotional Vulnerability (33:26) Overcoming Victim Mentality and Identity Labels (39:46) Breaking the Cycle (48:47) Discovering Self Through Stillness (59:39) Connecting With Bedros Koulian on Projects   Order of Man Merchandise. Delving into themes of creativity and healing, Dr. Fred discusses his book "The Creative Healing Through Creativity and Self Expression" and Benjamin opens up about childhood pain and being a "sad clown" who channels difficulties through creative outlets.  This conversation explores fascinating topics like the psychology of creativity, finding meaning through life stories, and pivoting creative projects due to COVID-19. In this reflective episode, host Dr. Fred Moss revisits his conversation with previous guest Benjamin Kintisch, a talented musician who described himself as a "sad clown."  Dr. Fred explores the concept of the sad clown and relates it to his own difficulties and sadness in life. He discusses how pain and wounds from childhood often remain unresolved, but creative people like Benjamin can channel these feelings into art, music, and other outlets. The discussion centers on how the rawness of pain is transmuted into beautiful works of creativity and self-expression. Dr. Fred emphasizes the "creative eight" - art, music, dance, drama, and more - as healing forms of expression.  He notes that entertainers and artists frequently have sadness and roughness in their past, which emerges through their creative gifts. There is a special harmonic resonance between creative people sharing their gifts and the audience receiving them. Dr. Fred concludes that the "tears of the clown" can become a source of healing the world, as people's vulnerabilities and creative expressions weave together. Tune in for a thoughtful meditation on how our deepest pains can be channeled into the creativity that connects and heals us.

For more takeaways from all of our guests, subscribe to the Sound Judgment newsletter and visit our blog. Learn to draw upon rhythm and music to improve your delivery on the mic. Ronald grew up with the musicality of the storytelling and the singing he heard in church, and that turned him into a storyteller who is enchanting to listen to. But we can all do this by feeling the rhythm and cadence of language: Where are the beats? Where are the breaths? It's not just storyboarding that makes great stories; it's how we deliver our stories. Don't censor yourself. At the beginning of the scripting process, Ronald's story editor, Sarah Deeley, had him write down all the ideas he had for each episode. Only then did they narrow those ideas down into a structured narrative. Build stories in layers. Think about context: what does the listener need to know, right now, to understand this episode? To tell a story about his college girlfriend, Ronald had to first explain some stuff about his childhood. What context do you need to offer to make your story land?
