Von Bayern nach Berlin. Vor einigen Jahren verschlug es Holger Nielson und deKai in die Techno-Hochburg Berlin, wo sie nun zu Hause sind und mit ihrem Label Ragnarøk erfolgreich Fuß gefasst haben. Wir durften die beiden DJs auf der diesjährigen DME Berlin kennenlernen und hatten ein super interessantes Gespräch. Wir unterhalten uns nicht nur über die Techno-Kultur in Berlin oder über die Gründung von Ragnarøk, auch über Holgers Alter Ego ‚Holgi Star‘, wird ein bisschen gequatscht. Natürlich erfahrt ihr auch wie sich die beiden Künstler kennengelernt haben und wie es in Zukunft mit ihren Projekten weiter geht. || Wer ist eigentlich Holger Nielson? Holger Nielson, ursprünglich aus Süddeutschland stammend, begann seine DJ-Karriere in den ersten Tagen der aufstrebenden Berliner Techno-Szene. Seitdem ist Berlin sein Zuhause und seine Hauptstütze, während er diese zu Clubresidenzen, Plattenfirmen und darüber hinaus ausbaute. Zusammen mit seinem DJ-Kollegen Dekai gründeten sie das Techno-Label Ragnarøk, um Techno in einem dunklen Stil, aber mit einer Dance-Attitüde zu servieren. Ragnarøk wurde gut aufgenommen, was zu großen Label-Nächten sowohl in Berlin als auch im übrigen Deutschland führte. Neben diesem Projekt leitet Holger mit seinem alten Partner DJ Emerson (CLR) auch das Label und die Agentur District4, ein Projekt, das eine andere Seite des Techno zeigt, mit Acts wie Thomas Hoffknecht, Aleja Sanchez und Deas, um nur einige zu nennen. || Der ist eigentlich deKai? Der Weg zum DJ war für Kai aus Süddeutschland geebnet, als er 2004 den OM-Club in Madrid besuchte. Er sah, wie der DJ in der Lage war, eine Stimmung aufzubauen und mit der Menge zu spielen. Da ihn sein altes Leben mit seinen Freunden, die bereits an Arbeit und Familie gebunden waren, langweilte, wurde er deKai. Seit 2011 ist er bei Kiddaz FM unter Vertrag, und 2014 gründete er mit Holgi Star sein eigenes Label RAGNARØK. Künstler wie Holger Nielson, Hefty, Patrick Arbez, Asem Shama, Moog Conspiracy, IXEL, Kenny B, Sven Sossong und deKai veröffentlichen Tracks, die dich erschauern lassen.

When I started this podcast I could never think I would reach the 100 mark. I discovered a lot of great new music and new artists. Tell us about the story of your early days. A: Well, I always loved music from the first time I heard The Rolling Stones and MC5 Records of my father when I was maybe 4 or 5 years old. When I heard "Golden Brown" on the radio one night while driving in my parents car I asked them how they made these sounds and that I wanna make music too. I had no idea how to do it but I always had the urge to produce the music I like myself in any way or another. So i got my first guitar. As time went by I got more and more into the industrial stuff like Nine Inch Nails, Ministry, White Zombie and just like that I ended up listening to a lot of Breakbeat and Drum And Bass and I started mixing and then I got infected with the Techno virus. Q: You´ve been inside the Techno scene for a very long time yet. How would you describe the development of the last 20 years? A: These days it´s much more about social media and stuff like that back then you basically released a fat record and went on tour for a year. Now you have to take care of much more stuff. It´s difficult to stand out since we have so many aspiring and established DJs. I wish people would listen better in the clubs. How good the DJ actually mixes and how he selects his music. What tracks he plays. Does he just play what everybody else is playing or does he try to show you interesting new music. It´s still the most important thing! Not what this guy posts before, after and during his show. Studio wise I really like how the sound design has developed and how good many of todays productions actually sound. You can make so much with the software nowadays. Q: Which Emerson projects can we expect soon? A: I am currently releasing the remixes for my album with mixes by Johannes Heil, Tales Of The Machines, Yan Cook, A. Mochi, Oliver Deutschmann, Xhei, Conrad Von Orton, Kai Kinkel, Pawn Shop People & Matasism. Then I am preparing a series of micro.fon partys all across europe and I am producing tracks with my homie Thomas Hoffknecht for a collab release.

Thomas Hoffknecht, born 1985 in Hamburg, began to make some experiences in music soon in his life. 14 years old he didn't just love turntables but loved to do more with them than just let them play music with a needle. so in young ages, with 16 years, he had his first gigs in public and when he got to know this feeling of playing in front of a crowd of people he soon wanted more. so in 2009 he started to produce a few minimal tracks and elaborated himself steadily. and as a man who's always aspiring for more, he soon got some great techno releases on labels like Delta Code, Unkown Territory, Dmom, Illegal Alien Rec. There are planned many more EP's on magnificient labels in the future from the man with this perpetually techno inside his whole body.
