In this episode, the boys talk with a former Neversoft developer, Chris Vance, who is most well known for authoring the Through The Fire and Flames chart in Guitar Hero 3.
Shying away from adversity is a normal reaction; we are programmed to escape pain and seek comfort. Yet, as you'll learn from today's guest, facing hardships is the shortest way through them. In fact, once we name them, they start to lose power over us. In today's episode, I'm joined by the incredibly inspiring Nick Klingensmith. Nick is a 4-time cancer survivor, type-1 diabetic, and recovering alcoholic with 4 herniated discs, nerve damage, and sleep apnea, who chose to stop relishing in victim mode and became a motivational speaker, mindset coach, and obstacle course racer. He is also the author of "Through The Fire," a beautiful book that narrates how Nick got from the dark place he was to where he is now, physically and, most importantly, mentally. Throughout this episode, you'll hear Nick's inspiring story of resilience and mental fortitude, his inner work to stand where he stands today, and what he relied on to never throw the towel. He talks about the incredible power of acceptance, its role in his life, and the importance of stopping comparing ourselves; he also shares five tips to stay resilient every day, and more. Tune in and listen to episode 204 of Grief and Happiness, and let Nick inspire you to face what's stopping you from thriving, accept the parts of it you can't change, and never stop trying until you accomplish your goals. In This Episode, You Will Learn:Nick talks about why it was easier for him to hide behind the victim role (2:00)What changed the fourth time Nick was diagnosed with cancer (7:10)The transformative power of acceptance (14:20)Five ways to stay resilient every day (20:30)We need to daydream more (27:00)Why we must stop comparing ourselves (32:30)Connect with Nick:WebsiteLinkedInInstagramBook: Nick Klingensmith - Through The Fire: The story of the 4-time cancer survivor, type-1 diabetic, and recovering alcoholic who became an obstacle course racer and defied it allLet's Connect:WebsiteLinkedInFacebookInstagramTwitterPinterestThe Grief and Happiness AllianceBook: Emily Thiroux Threatt - Loving and Living Your Way Through Grief Hosted on Acast. In their latest journey down hard rock and heavy metal's Memory Lane, the boys are checking out supergroups - those bands formed by musos who made their names in other bands. There were some obvious ones to choose from - Bad Company, Audioslave and, erm, Revolting Cocks, for example - but the boys dived deep and came up with three outfits that were all new to at least one of them. Anything involving Sammy Hagar and Neil Schon was probably dependably good (or was it?) so they all felt comfortable with Hagar Schon Aaronson Shrieve's Through The Fire from 1983. But then Mark rocked up with Dennis Stratton side project Lionheart and their eponymous 1984 debut, and Steve went full toto and picked a band that, in a different genre, might have had a lot in common with One Direction (insofar as they were manufactured for the purpose of achieving commercial success). It was promising to be an interesting chat ... www.entersadmen.co.uk

WAYLAND, the four piece, West Michigan, heartland rock and roll band, released “How Long” today via Fearlyss Entertainment. Recorded in Burbank, Calif., the song is co-written with Brandon “Bsamz” Sammons (Bad Wolves, Lady Gaga) and produced by Grammy award nominated artist and industry veteran Keith Nelson (Buckcherry, Blackberry Smoke, Alice Cooper, Ricky Warwick) at MDDN Studios (Good Charlotte.) The track is co-engineered and mixed by Jun Murakawa (Tool, Slipknot, Chris Cornell, Chevelle) and mastered by Dave Collins (Alice In Chains, The Avett Brothers, Metallica.) “How Long” is from the forthcoming EP “On The Way”. “‘How Long' is the question I think the whole world is asking,” lead guitarist Phillip Vilkenski said. “How long until we find a new normal? And how long until we have the freedom to be back on track to fulfilling our whole purpose for being here?” Award-winning videographer Harold Sellers shot the “How Long” official music video in Joshua Tree, Calif. The music video features the Heart Global dancers. Heart Global is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization that leads music and performance workshops all over the world, which exists to create global connections while nurturing future generations through music. Stream the “How Long” video here. Vilenski and Mitch Arnold (lead singer) first met and started writing songs in the performance group together when they traveled the world teaching. Their understanding that music is medicine has been their dharma ever since. “Phill and I found ourselves alone in our desert studio reflecting back on our journey during the pandemic, and it felt like we were going back to the beginning,” Arnold said. “Every time we had tried to go back to the beginning before, we never went all the way back to Heart Global and the principles they instilled in us that are truly the beginning of our bond and band.” WAYLAND is a six-time charting rock band hailing from a town of the same name in Michigan. In 2010 WAYLAND's “Welcome To My Head” hit #32 on the active rock charts followed by “Reno” which reached #54. Next came “Get A Little,” which debuted at number six on the iTunes rock charts while simultaneously hitting #49 on media base active rock charts with a viral music video to match. “Bloody Sunrise” reached #30 and was followed by “Through The Fire” which reached #29 on the Billboard Music Charts. “Ghost,” co-written by Brent Smith and Zach Meyers (Shinedown) reached #28 on BDS active rock. After coming off the road for the first time in almost a decade, Wayland signed with new management, Fearlyss Entertainment to write and record, “On The Way”. Wayland is Arnold (lead vocals, rhythm guitar), Vilenski (lead guitar, vocals), Joey Clement (bass, vocals) and Hoss Wright (drums).

Born into an entertainment family in Queens, New York Jonathan Hock was destined for a career in sports and film. For over 10 years, Hock cut his teeth under the tutelage of the legend Steve Sabol at NFL Films, leading him back to Brooklyn where he started his own production company, Hock Films. After producing the beloved And1 Mixtape Tour for 7 seasons, Hock made his first award winning documentary, Through The Fire, profiling Staten Island basketball phenom, Sebastian Telfair. Hock has gone on to direct the most 30 for 30's and has arguably the finest sports documentary CV of all time. Hock takes us behind the curtain and explains some memorable moments from his highly acclaimed documentary of Miracles and Men and he explains to us why it was so important for him to frame the Felipe Lopez story through the lens of immigration in the wonderful 30 for 30 called the Dominican Dream. It was truly enjoyable conversing with someone with so much expertise. I think you will enjoy it too on this episode of Beyond the Lens presented by Diesel Films.

Well 2014 has started off rather cold and snowy at the Open Metalcast bunker. Fortunately the network connection has withstood the elements and we've been able to find some great music to start off the new year right. We've got music by At Daggers Drawn, Firestorm, Just Another, Coalest, NAJA, DSW, and a killer piece from Mean Messiah. And though we don't have any scientific proof I'm pretty sure headbanging can prevent frostbite. OK maybe not, but it does make the day go by quicker when you're stranded at home. And remember "all work and no play makes Jack a dull boy". (00:10) Gaia (Thou Shalt Not Kill) by At Daggers Drawn from Ignition (BY-NC-ND) (04:51) Through The Fire by FIRESTORM from Sands Of Time (EP) (BY-NC-ND) (09:01) Where to by Just Another from Polarities (BY-NC-SA) (13:44) Monochrome by Coalest from Magnolian Root (BY-NC-SA) (17:29) Brain Detonation by NAJA from No Escape From Yourself (BY-NC-SA) (22:52) Space Cubeship by DSW from Dust Storm Warning (BY-NC-ND) (29:16) The Last Ride by Mean Messiah from Hell (BY-NC-ND) Please support the bands in this show!
