Lauren, Ben and Jon discuss The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It and there is no need for any rituals or hexes upon one another. They look back at the series as a whole, even if one of them has seen none of them, discuss body contortions, and more or less enjoy themselves along the way. They also get into whether we need more of this series and have a number of But Why's... A good discussion of a solid movie, worth a listen if you caught this on HBOMax this summer. Download. Listen. A new release from Hulu this week, for Natalie Morales directorial debut, Plan B! This buddy/road trip/high school comedy was full of laughs (for me at least) and ended up helping us delivering my favorite episode in some time. Everyone is here and has varying takes, but we do go off the rails a few time thanks to a particular Prince in this film. Either way, I think you should give this smaller movie a chance and the podcast will be almost just as entertaining this week...I promise. Download. Listen. Enjoy. It's a barrage of back and forths this week as half the podcast turns their backs on Zack Snyder as we discuss his latest, Army of the Dead! This Netflix film might be Snyder a bit too off the reins, or does the film just not stop to focus on anything, or is this film just too interested in setting up a giant cinematic universe of content for Netflix and Snyder to play in. Ben and Jon had fun though and are lining up for more, so, mission accomplished. Come to see where you land on this one, we are all over the place... Download. Listen. Enjoy. This week we review the indie female arm wrestling comedy, Golden Arm. Starring Happiest Season's Mary Holland and a strong ensemble, this one had a hard time winning over the crew beyond Zac. They argue whether we should be too hard on such a small movie, find common ground on some of the film's good bits, and go back and forth on whether this will find a second life (or first) depending if Mary Holland can make a name for herself. Still, a movie worth checking out and supporting if you can, let the crew's opinions let you know if you think you'll find something to like in this one. Download. Listen. Enjoy. We take a Zack Snyder inspired flashback to his only original film Sucker Punch! A bomb on multiple levels when it came out, this crew has always shared some appreciation for it, so we decided to revisit it and see how it has stood up over the last ten years. Jon's back and is a first time viewer, but he falls in line with the rest of the crew as we get into what we like and what we wish might have been handled better about this film. Download. Listen. Ben picks The Raid this week for our flashback to “2011” as he tries to convince Zac that he is wrong about this one. He might prove him wrong, but he also loves the film as an action masterpiece. Where does Lauren fall? You'll have to listen, but we also marvel at the fighting, argue The Raid vs. The Raid 2, and also talk about the very similar film Dredd released about the same time. Another great episode and a rare mea culpa on a film from me. Download. Listen. Enjoy. We flashback to 2001 to watch the David Lynch mind-fuck, Mulholland Dr. The film was nominated for Best Director, but this podcast can't find a lot to praise from 2/3 of the party. Zac is on watch number 3, Ben and Lauren are new to the film, and they spend a lot of time trying to wrap their heads around the film and their feelings. Are the actors bad, are they the best performances ever given, what the hell was that dude doing behind the restaurant. We might not have answers, but we certainly have thoughts. Download. Listen. You've probably heard this phrase time and time again, "God won't give you more than you can handle." It actually is traced back to Mother Teresa and later on, she said, "I wish He wouldn't trust me so much."But here's the thing: That is actually not a biblical statement and in fact, it's not a true statement. I want to remind you of what was the biggest event in the Old Testament: the Exodus. The Exodus changed the Hebrews into Israelites, just like the crucifixion, resurrection, and ascension makes us Christians. That was the defining salvific moment of the Old Testament. But listen to this: they have the Philistines on one side, they have the Pharaoh's army bearing down on them from behind, and God had led them right to the edge of another kingdom that would help them and take them in, right? No, it was the Red Sea!This is an interesting place because we see the Israelites start to mutter and grumble and you see that theme over and over again in the Bible. God turns to Moses and says, "Why are you crying out to me? Tell the Israelites to move." (Exodus 14:15) They were paralyzed in their fear and then this is what God did. He sent a great wind from the east to blow over the sea all night long. Why? Because God is all about bringing you face to face with your limitations. Will God give you more than you can handle? Absolutely! All your whole life long! Why? So that you can see just how much you need Him because He loves you that much. If He is the source of life, He would be a cruel God to let you go through your life never needing him.So don't fall into the same pattern the Israelites were in. Don't let your fear paralyze you. Get up, move, and take one foot in front of the other. I don't know what your particular circumstances are, but I know my God and He will not let you go through this alone. He will make a way for you!
When temptations come.... and they absolutely will. God's promise to us in this passage is that He has provided a means for us to escape. He is faithful even when we are faithless. When we are satisfied by God, no tempting counterfeit form of fulfillment seems alluring. Paul warns us through his words to the Corinthian church to flee idolatry. But, Why? So that we can be fully satisfied in Christ. When we are, we won't hesitate to lay down a desire or right when we have an opportunity to love in the process. We are not called to please people, but we are called to love them. Carrying God to the world around us demands a sacrifice. It's a costly calling to be the body of Christ. This call to be the body of Christ can only be fulfilled by the spirit of God. Why would we forfeit our unity and peace in the spirit for anything? I hope this encourages you in a week of high tension and stress. Lean into the source of our hope today! You are loved. Tori
By Pastor Brandon Dirmann We are in a series using the book "Stepping Into The Kingdom", helping us GROW This series about the Kingdom of God and fully stepping into it LAST week we talked about WHAT the Kingdom of God is and HOW we step into it (Experience full freedom under God's rule) We talked about three essential steps. 1) Salvation / 2) Water Baptism / 3) The Baptism of the Holy Spirit TONIGHT as we continue we are going to talk about THE CHURCH CHURCH is not a building, CHURCH is not a program, CHURCH is not a product. CHURCH IS A PEOPLE CHURCH is the people of God (Followers of Jesus) and it is GLOBAL and LOCAL for the purpose of reaching the world Psalms 92:13-14 (NKJV) - Those who are planted in the house of the Lord Shall flourish in the courts of our God. 14 They shall still bear fruit in old age; They shall be fresh and flourishing, Hebrews 10:24-25 (NKJV) - And let us consider one another in order to stir up love and good works, 25 not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as is the manner of some, but exhorting one another, and so much the more as you see the Day approaching. Both of these scriptures tell us how important CHURCH is to our lives. Psalm 92 says that those who are planted in the house of God shall flourish and no matter what life throws at it will continue to flourish. Hebrews say DON'T stop getting together and encouraging and challenging one another so that we can live out God's full potential. ? BUT WHY ? #1. Church Is Family John 1:12 (NKJV) - But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, to those who believe in His name. Galatians 3:26 (NKJV) - For you are all sons of God through faith in Christ Jesus. When we were saved we were born again into the family of God and became the sons and daughters of God. We're a part of His family. Ephesians 3:14-15 (NKJV) - For this reason I bow my knees to the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, 15 from whom the whole family in heaven and earth is named, Paul tells us that the family of God is both here on earth and in heaven. This family is spiritual and it is eternal. #2. Church Is A Body Romans 12:3-5 (NKJV) - For I say, through the grace given to me, to everyone who is among you, not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think, but to think soberly, as God has dealt to each one a measure of faith. 4 For as we have many members in one body, but all the members do not have the same function, 5 so we, being many, are one body in Christ, and individually members of one another. Each of us have been given unique gifts and abilities for the purpose of building the church (the body) and advancing God's Kingdom (Reaching people). ? WHAT DO YOU HAVE ? - Don't hold it back or and store it away. You are not complete without the body and the body is not complete without you. #3. Church Is An Army Ephesians 6:12 (NKJV) - For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places. 2 Corinthians 10:3-5 (NKJV) - For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war according to the flesh. 4 For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal but mighty in God for pulling down strongholds, 5 casting down arguments and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ, The Bible tells us that we are in a spiritual battle and that the enemy wants to take us out. Why? So that he can stop us from being a part of the body and advancing His Kingdom. We have to begin to think like an army and be mission minded and also defend one another so we can fight good fight Acts 4:31 (NKJV) - And when they had prayed, the place where they were assembled together was shaken; and they were all filled with the Holy Spirit, and they spoke the word of God with boldness. When we engage in prayer and spiritually are a part of the fight we see the power of God released and supernatural things begin to happen as God's Kingdom is advanced SO our response is to ENGAGE THE FAMILY, CONTRIBUTE TO THE BODY, AND FIGHT LIKE AN ARMY See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Top Take-a-ways: Story is powerful. Use your voice to lift others by sharing their story! When women support each other, we change the world. It’s never too late to revive the untold stories of the past. The power of social media is undeniable because of the way it allows us all to tell our story. Even though we have always had story, in the past stories were only written down by those with power. Consequently, many stories were never written, shared, or remembered, and many people’s voices were silenced or lost. Today’s episode bridges the gap between the stories of the past and the power of storytelling and social media today. Today’s guest, Leslie Zemeckis, is a master of both storytelling and the power of social media. She tells the stories of women in American pop culture from the early part of the 20th century who were dismissed, ignored, or never asked for their point of view. As Kathleen McGowan, author of The Magdalene Line series said, “History is not what happened but what is written down” Leslie Zemeckis is literally changing history, by writing down the stories of powerful, unique women whose stories otherwise may have been lost to history Additionally, Leslie is also using her power and passion to elevate the stories being told on social media. To combat the onslaught of negativity on social media today, she created an EMPOWERMENT CHALLENGE to spread love and positivity. Her challenge is to post something once a week about someone else, an artist, friend, philanthropist, whomever, who is making the world better (in big ways and small) who needs a light shone on them. Why? So together we can empower others and rise higher and so we can start telling and sharing the stories that really matter.Who will take me and Leslie up on this challenge? With season one over, we're looking back at our favourite episodes. The past few months have radically changed the we talk about race and policing across the world. It is no longer enough to be non-racist, we must be actively anti-racist in the fight to vanquish the systemic injustice and oppression experienced by BIPOC (Black, Indigenous & People of Colour). This is an issue that calls all of us in - in particular those of us who are White - to reflect and change our behaviour, as well as divest ourselves from the immeasurable benefits - financial or otherwise - we have because of the histories of and ongoing exploitation based on race. This week, we are re-releasing Finding Our Voice Week, where we use these three podcasts to reflect and pause on our response to the murder of George Floyd in Minneapolis by police, and the long history of systemic racial oppression. In today's session, we talk about why some of us become reactive and defensive in the face of tough conversations around race, shutting down our emotional intelligence and mindfulness skills, and what it means to have tough conversations with ourselves - especially the conversations where we become defensive, reactive or avoidant. We recommend Robin DiAngelo's book, White Fragility, which informs much of this podcast, and Ibram X Kendi's book, How to Be Anti-Racist.Moving from education to action, we look to Justice in June, an amazing guide put together by Autumn Gupta with Bryanna Wallace: https://docs.google.com/document/u/2/d/1H-Vxs6jEUByXylMS2BjGH1kQ7mEuZnHpPSs1Bpaqmw0/mobilebasic?fbclid=IwAR27Hbl0fWAHrWQVo1JFSmeN-7InRVgH8Ljm1YRATGj-9mMgQ-o3o_RZ5j0If you are new to the Last 8% Morning, over the course of 15 minutes we integrate movement, mindfulness, and mental training exercises. It may seem strange for a morning routine to venture into what follows but know: our mission is founded on the belief that we are all capable of personal transformation. Indeed it is only by facing the difficult that we can transform, and it is only personal transformation that can help us see clearly and make change happen in society. We start today by facing the world as it is and seeing if we can use that to break us open to move from being non-racist to anti-racist.If you are new to the Last 8% Morning, over the course of 15 minutes we integrate movement, mindfulness, and mental training exercises. In this podcast, do you sometimes get down on yourself? Can you be your own worst enemy? Well, you are not alone. In today’s session, we describe one of the ‘T’s’ in our ETA tool: tenderness. Tenderness, or loving kindness, is a very powerful and transformative practice that we have used with Olympic athletes and ‘hard -nosed’ individuals in places like the US Navy, Wall Street, and with NFL and NBA teams. This seemingly ‘soft’ practice can have very hard and powerful results. In today’s session, we ask some of the big questions of self-awareness such as: what is your aspiration in life? What do you long for? What would you regret if your story ended now? These are important questions because we, as Last 8%ers, will not let fear or what other people think of us get in the way of living our best life. "People grow a lot when they are faced with their own mortality. I learnt never to underestimate someone’s capacity for growth. Some changes were phenomenal. Catherine Hamilton is the Vice President of Consumer Services and Strategic Planning at Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Vermont. Catherine is also a certified yoga instructor and prides herself on prioritizing her wellness first before serving others. In this episode, Catherine encourages women to not apologize for having good ideas. Be confident in the way you talk, and don’t second guess yourself. If you’ve ever wondered how a superwoman ‘can do it all,’ then you’re asking yourself the wrong question! Key Takeaways How do you do it all? Catherine has never really been a perfectionist. We put so much pressure on ourselves to appear perfect. Why? So many women want to be strong and powerful leaders, but then they also want to be the good girl and not rock the boat. Why do smart women feel like they have to apologize for making a good point? Speak your truth and do not apologize. You have to train your inner voice to speak up and talk. As an overachiever, Catherine needs the support of her female friends to help her keep balance. Catherine gets asked, “How do you do it all?” But she doesn’t think that’s the best question to ask. Do you sometimes find that when under pressure, you get so wrapped up in your stuff, that you stop tuning into others? Or, maybe, you aren’t really aware of it until someone else points it out? In today’s session, we strengthen our identity statement to build empathy so that we can stay open to others when we are under pressure. Let’s walk. An identity statement answers the question: who are we, when we are at our best? It puts into words, in concrete terms, how we are when we are at our best? An identity statement can help catch us when we start falling into judgement as opposed to care when we are in a tough spot with another person – so that we stay curious as opposed to certain about their intention or their point of view. In today’s episode, we look at how we increase the quality of our sleep. Given the clear benefits of sleep on our cognitive function, we investigate the small tips and tricks we can make use of to increase the quantity and quality of our sleep, and our overall enjoyment of life. Here are a few of our techniques: 1. Control the conditions: we sleep better in the cold and in the dark, so do you what you can to provide the space to enable these conditions. 2. Exercise: exercising during the day is also a crucial technique to help you sleep better.3. Mindfulness: the more we can do mindfulness the better we can bring non-judgemental awareness to our intrusive thoughts that can keep us awake. 4. The other practice is to get data - use an app which tracks your movements in the night and enables you to figure out how you can sleep better.
