It's Thursday, March 6th, A.D. 2025. This is The Worldview in 5 Minutes heard on 125 radio stations and at www.TheWorldview.com. I'm Adam McManus. (Adam@TheWorldview.com) By Jonathan Clark Nicaragua violated religious freedom 222 times last year Christian Solidarity Worldwide released a report Monday on the continued deterioration of religious freedom in Nicaragua. The report documented 222 cases of religious freedom violations in the Central American country last year. Authorities have prohibited churches from holding public religious processions. Pastors must report to designated police officers and submit their weekly plans. Christian Solidarity Worldwide noted, “Preaching about unity or justice or praying for imprisoned religious leaders or even the general situation in the country, for example, can be considered as criticism of the government and treated as a crime.” Nicaragua is ranked 30th on the Open Doors' World Watch List of nations where it is most difficult to be a Christian. South Korea's birthrate up South Korea's birthrate rose last year for the first time in nearly a decade. The country witnessed 238,300 births in 2024, up 3.6% from 2023. South Korea's fertility rate was 0.75 children per woman last year, up from 0.72 in 2023. It was 1.24 in 2015. South Korea is known for having one of the worst fertility rates in the world. The government has introduced pro-marriage policies in response. UK Christian groups organize Nat'l Day of Prayer Against Assisted Suicide Religious organizations in the United Kingdom are organizing a National Day of Prayer Against Assisted Suicide on March 25. The Christian Institute is leading the initiative in partnership with Affinity, CARE, the Christian Medical Fellowship, and the Evangelical Alliance. The U.K. parliament is currently considering a bill to legalize the killing of terminally ill adults who want to end their lives. Ciarán Kelly, the Director of The Christian Institute, said, “Now is a key moment to pray for the failure of efforts to legalize assisted suicide for ill and vulnerable people.” 40 Days for Life kicks off in 660 cities worldwide Pro-lifers around the world joined in the 40 Days for Life prayer campaign starting yesterday. People are praying for an end to the murder of unborn babies in 660 cities. The abortion mill in one of those cities is already expected to shut down. The Bloomington Police Department informed 40 Days for Life that the Planned Parenthood locations in Bloomington and Decatur, Illinois are closing for good. Colossians 4:2 says, “Continue earnestly in prayer, being vigilant in it with thanksgiving.” Trump opposes transgenderism in speech On Tuesday night, President Donald Trump delivered an address to both chambers of Congress. His speech lasted over an hour and 40 minutes, a record for presidential addresses to Congress. Trump celebrated his first 43 days back in office. He criticized transgenderism and illegal immigration while promoting government cuts and tariffs. Trump called on Congress to ban so-called sex-change surgeries on children. TRUMP: “Shortly after taking office, I signed an executive order banning public schools from indoctrinating our children with transgender ideology. (applause) I also signed an order to cut off all taxpayer funding to any institution that engages in the sexual mutilation of our youth. (applause) “And now I want Congress to pass a bill permanently banning and criminalizing sex changes on children and forever ending the lie that any child is trapped in the wrong body. (applause) This is a big lie. And our message to every child in America is that you are perfect, exactly the way God made you.” (applause) According to a CBS News survey, a massive 76% of those watching said they approved of Trump's first second-term speech to Congress, reports One America News. Supreme Court votes against Trump's freeze of $2B to USAID The U.S. Supreme Court sided with a lower court against the Trump administration yesterday in a case involving USAID payments. The lower court ordered the administration to unfreeze $2 billion in foreign payments. The Supreme Court ruled 5-4. Justice Samuel Alito led the dissent, writing, “Does a single district-court judge who likely lacks jurisdiction have the unchecked power to compel the Government of the United States to pay out (and probably lose forever) 2 billion taxpayer dollars? The answer to that question should be an emphatic ‘No,' but a majority of this Court apparently thinks otherwise. I am stunned.” Australian man with the golden arm dies at 88 And finally, a beloved Australian blood donor died recently at the age of 88. James Harrison was known as the “Man with the Golden Arm.” His blood contained the rare antibody called anti-D. The antibody is used in a medication for pregnant women whose blood might attack the unborn baby. Harrison donated blood and plasma 1,173 times between 1954 and 2018. He's credited with saving the lives of 2.4 million babies! Stephen Cornelissen with the Australian Red Cross Blood Service said, “James was a remarkable, stoically kind and generous person who was committed to a lifetime of giving and he captured the hearts of many people around the world.” In Acts 20:35, the Apostle Paul said, “And remember the words of the Lord Jesus, that He said, ‘It is more blessed to give than to receive.' ” Close And that's The Worldview on this Thursday, March 6th, in the year of our Lord 2025. If you had the chance to save millions of lives, you'd do it, right? That's exactly what James Harrison did.Known as The Man with the Golden Arm, James had a rare antibody in his blood that helped protect unborn babies from a deadly blood disorder. After receiving life-saving transfusions as a teenager, he spent 63 years donating plasma every two weeks - saving over 2 million lives, including his own grandchildren.James passed away this month at 88, but his legacy lives on. Scientists have used his blood to recreate the antibody, ensuring that millions more babies can be saved!
James Harrison gave blood and plasma more than a thousand times for six decades. Harrison's plasma contained a rare antibody, anti-D, given to pregnant women whose babies are at risk of developing a blood disease. - ハリソンさんは18歳から81歳まで、60年以上にわたり、定期的に献血を行いました。彼の血漿に含まれた希少で貴重な抗体「アンチ-D」は、200万人以上の赤ちゃんの命を救いました。
AP correspondent Ed Donahue reports on the death of a blood donor called "The Man with the Golden Arm".
Here comes the rain & snow! Was already raining this morning and we're looking at a switch to snow sometime during the overnight. In the news this morning…an update on the Pope's condition, an audit in Wisconsin found not one single voting machine error during the November elections, it's been a month since the Amber Alert for Sophia Franklin was issued & she still hasn't been found, a bill to ban transgender athletes from participating in girls & women's sports failed to advance, and a New Richmond man is arrested & charged with murdering his wife. In sports, the Bucks play the Hawks tonight, the Badgers play the Gophers tomorrow night & somehow only slipped one spot in the AP Top 25 poll after losing to MSU on Sunday, Sam Darnold likely won't be franchise tagged by the Vikings, and Jimmy Johnson is retiring from Fox Sports. We let you know what's on TV tonight and what's new for New Release Tuesday. Plus, Grant Bilse of the Wisco Sports Show joined us just after 8am. Some emotional stories about a father/daughter dance and video store owner that recently closed his store but saved one customer's favorite movies. Sad news as the "Man with the Golden Arm" recently passed away after helping to save the lives of millions of children. Elsewhere in sports, Jimmy Butler is allegedly a bad tenant, the L.A. Kings messed up BIG time, and a student sinks a 94' putt on a basketball court to win a brand new car! You know when a friend recommends a show to you, and adds: "Give it a few episodes, I swear it's good"? Well, they're probably not wrong. The latest stupid TikTik trend/challenge is apparently feeding butter to your baby to help them sleep through the night. And in today's edition of "Bad News with Happy Music", we had stories about a #FloridaWoman who stabbed her boyfriend because he wouldn't eat her cooking, an A.I. robot that attacked a crowd of people after a "software glitch", another #FloridaWoman who tried to use Mountain Dew to cover up her crimes, and a woman who caught her husband cheating on her in the back of a van. In this episode we're joined by our teammate and the golden arm herself, Georgia Adams. Gads takes us through her cricket journey, including how a single innings of 80 convinced her to drop pace bowling for good. She gives us the lowdown on what was possibly one of the most successful years of her life, winning all (WBBL, The hundred, Regional one dayer and Regional T20 competitions) but one tournament —and she even credits it to a pair of pizza pants (you'll definitely want to tune in for that story!). Currently playing for NSW, Georgia shares her thoughts on joining the squad, the buzz around the Big Bash, and how she's navigating leadership and captaincy. Don't miss it! Melbourne's Medically Supervised Injecting Room (MSIR) in North Richmond opened in 2018. This was the result of a years-long grassroots campaign led by the local community, fed up with constant overdoses in the streets. The MSIR operates on principles of harm reduction which simply work and urgently need to be applied throughout the world. The stigma around drug use, and the criminalising of drug users, must end - and that begins with us. In 1955, Frank Sinatra made a historically significant contribution to the destigmatisation of drug use on film in Otto Preminger's The Man with the Golden Arm. In a depiction that is in many ways still radical today, Sinatra's character of Frankie Machine is a regular person who is trying his best to shake off a heroin addiction but is simply failed by a society that does not have the means to support him. A compelling and empathetic performance by Sinatra, and subject matter which openly defied the Production Code of its era, made this a memorable classic for many and contributed to a better world. This week on SUDDENLY, friend of the show Spike Vincent joins us to watch The Man With the Golden Arm, sharing his thoughts and personal experiences. Meanwhile, Rabia has been reading up on the MSIR and reports back on the experience of touring the facility to see what goes on first-hand. As a thematic wild card, we also watched an Australian DVD of the film called A Night at the Cinema with extra footage intended to replicate the experience of seeing this film in 1955 in a cinema in specifically Castlemaine, Victoria - including "God Save the Queen", a newsreel, cartoon, local ads etc - which leads us to compelling footage of the 1955 Maitland floods. Plus, an update on Bobby Long. We’re not terribly familiar with Frank Sinatra’s acting career here at SFFCH despite him being in a surprising amount of films. We wanted to see if he could hold his own in something which wasn’t a musical or a cheeky-chappy comedy and we think we’ve found the least likely film from the 50s to star … Continue reading "423: The Man With The Golden Arm [1955] Movie Discussion"

In the 1930's (and before), there was a mysterious cause of infant mortality. An astonishing number of newborns were victim to a mismatch between their blood type, and that of their mothers. Doctors at the time were not sure why this was happening. This is the story of the discovery of the cure for that condition and a man who went above and beyond for six decades to help prevent it in his part of the world.Sources:-https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/James_Harrison_(blood_donor)-https://www.cnn.com/2018/05/11/health/james-harrison-blood-donor-retires-trnd/index.html-https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/to-your-health/wp/2018/05/12/for-six-decades-the-man-with-the-golden-arm-donated-blood-and-saved-2-4-million-babies/-https://www.npr.org/2015/06/14/414397424/man-with-the-golden-arm-donates-blood-thats-saved-2-million-babies-https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rh_disease ----- Patreon Page (support the show) -----Submit a Question for Non-Medical Advice Segment (website form with instructions)-----Podcast Linktree (social media links / reviews / ratings)-----DrMqx (follow Dr. Max on Twitch)

We all miss the old days of TV where you got 22 episodes a season. This week, Sasheer talks about finishing Dawson's Creek (WARNING - light yet non-specific spoilers ahead) and Nicole counts dick-sightings on Queer as Folk. Jordan is having a bowl of milk-less cereal, leading Nicole and Sasheer to wax nostalgic over their favorite childhood cereals. Nicole likes to have sky meals on the ground, but is not a coleslaw queen. They discuss the plot of Never Been Kissed, a mom who punched a teacher, the perfection of Golden Arm, the work of director Sam Raimi, and the musical episode of Xena: Warrior Princess. Then they answer listener questions about their experiences doing improv comedy and awkward run-ins with neighbors. No BuzzFeed quiz this week. So why is Scotty having a former segment director for Jimmy Kimmel Live! as a guest on his horror podcast? Well, aside from being one of his oldest friends, Maureen Bharoocha is also the director of two Lifetime Network thrillers, along with the upcoming teen horror/comedy "The Prank" (March 15, from Iconic Events). Scotty and Maureen talk about her upbringing in a mixed Catholic/Muslim household, their time in film school together as argumentative "natural contrarians," Maureen's uncanny ability to turn a job at an upscale Beverly Hills bakery into a legitimate filmmaking career, how making "women in peril" movies for Lifetime is sort of like the modern-day Roger Corman school of low-budget filmmaking, how she thinks about the balance between horror and comedy, what it's like giving notes to movie legends like Keith David and Rita Moreno, and a whole lot more. LSU quarterback Jayden Daniels has been honored as the Johnny Unitas Golden Arm award winner for the 2023 season. Johnny Unitas Jr., President of the Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Educational Foundation, says “the winner of the Golden Arm Award is recognized not only for his athletic accomplishments, but also for his character, citizenship, scholastic achievement, leadership qualities, and athletic abilities." Past winners include Joe Burrow, Andrew Luck, Matt Ryan, along with several other decorated and respected quarterbacks in football. But since the Heisman Trophy campaign continues, what does that mean for Daniels' Heisman Trophy odds, if anything? Plus, LSU women's basketball superstar Angel Reese makes her return to the team. She has been away from the team for the past two weeks however head coach Kim Mulkey is not willing to disclose the reason why she was away the team. But she makes her return at the perfect time as Mulkey's squad prepares for a top-ten matchup against the Virginia Tech Hokies on Thursday night. Support Us By Supporting Our Sponsors! Jim Abbott was a standout Major League Baseball pitcher for 10 years. Because he was born without a right hand, Jim pitched, fielded, threw, and occasionally hit with only his left arm, one good enough to earn a gold medal, be a MLB first round draft pick, and throw a no-hitter in 1993 for the […]

Turns out we're not quite ready to let The Beats go! Sticking with our topic of separating myth from reality, we wrap-up our dive into mainstream interpretations with a quick conversation about the movie “The Man with the Golden Arm” which centers on a jazz drummer played by none other than Frank Sinatra. The film's soundtrack from Elmer Bernstein along with the Saul Bass-designed poster and opening titles helped make this film iconic. - - - - - Visit our full episode page for show notes, the visual examples we discuss, additional links and more! https://www.twodesignerswalkintoabar.com/episodes/episode-48-and-a-half-golden-arm - - - - - Have a question or idea for Todd and Elliot? Calling all Gleeks! This week Leigh (@lshfoster) and Ellie (@elliebrigida) hang out with actor Dot Marie Jones (@dotmariejones), who you probably know best as Shannon Beiste on Glee, but who has also had notable roles in pretty much anything you've probably ever seen (Coach Kelly on Lizzie McGuire anyone?). Her newest role is in the very gay comedy Bros which comes to theatres September 30th. We talk to Dot about her experiences across her long acting career and how things have changed in 30 years, especially when it comes to LGBTQ+ representation. 30 years ago it was nearly unheard of to have an LGBTQ+ character unless they were being treated horribly or the butt of a joke. So, for Dot, getting to work on a movie like Bros which is so unapologetically gay and has pretty much an entirely gay cast and mostly gay crew is a dream experience. We personally cannot wait to see a major theatrical release that is focused entirely around gays and is actually a comedy instead of being full of sadness and tragedy for once. Plus it has Billy Eichner and when he says “Let's go lesbians, let's go”, we simply have to go. In addition to talking about her acting career, we also get to chat with Dot about her impressive competitive arm wrestling career (Women's competitive arm wrestling? Sign us all the way up!). She actually appeared in Golden Arm which is a movie about competitive female arm wrestling that stars recent guest of the pod, Mary Holland, and she performed the role in a way that reflected her real life arm wrestling experience. With the current success of shows like A League of Their Own, we think the next big television show should absolutely be a look into the secret lives of competitive women's arm wrestlers, because there is no way there aren't just a lot of lesbians in that scene (lesbians do need to have pretty strong arms). Actor, screenwriter, improvisor Mary Holland (The Happiest Season, Golden Arm, Wild Horses) joins the show to talk about Corked, a hilarious new scripted podcast featuring so many friends of the show including Jon Gabrus and Betsy Sodaro. We also talk about going to a boarding school for performers called Interlochen, an especially heartwarming scene with her mom, growing up in a small town in Virgina, wanting to be a serious thespian, being a class clown, finding improv, makeup expiration dates, screenwriting, writing a movie with Lauren Lapkus about Lance Bass and Danielle Fishel's high school romance and so much more. We also did a round of HGFY and JMOE.
