Federal officials are also concerned other states could enact similar laws that would “deprive their citizens of their constitutional rights,” he said. It is settled constitutional law that ‘a State may not prohibit any woman from making the ultimate decision to terminate her pregnancy before viability,'” the lawsuit reads. “But Texas has done just that.”

Biden slams SCOTUS refusal to block Texas abortion law, vows to pursue legal remediesSpeaker Nancy Pelosi said she's bringing legislation to codify Roe to a vote. President Joe Biden says he is launching a "whole-of-government effort" in response to the Supreme Court allowing the nation's most restrictive abortion law to take effect in Texas, directing his Gender Policy Council and the White House legal team to tap federal agencies to ensure women maintain their constitutional right to an abortion. The new law in Texas has raised concerns among Democrats and abortion rights advocates that there will be efforts in other states to imitate it. The Supreme Court ruling provides a fresh incentive to act on abortion on a federal level while reigniting the national political divide over abortion and the high court. "While the Chief Justice was clear to stress that the action by the Supreme Court is not a final ruling on the future of Roe, the impact of last night's decision will be immediate and requires an immediate response," Biden said in a statement on Thursday.

This meant that any big life decisions, from working to spending to everything in between, would ultimately be decided by her legal guardian/conservator on her behalf — who, in this case, was Spears' father, James Spears.

While the constitutional authority to punish a Member who engages in “disorderly Behaviour” is intended, in part, as an instrument of individual rebuke, it serves principally to protect the reputation of the institution and to preserve the dignity of its proceedings. Over the decades, several forms of discipline have evolved in the House. The most severe type of punishment is expulsion from the House, which is followed by censure, and finally reprimand. Expulsion, as mandated in the Constitution, requires a two-thirds majority vote. Censure and reprimand, which evolved through House precedent and practice, are imposed by a simple majority of the full House.

WASHINGTON—Democrats argued Donald Trump “assembled, inflamed and incited” the attack against the Capitol in a last-ditch effort to overturn the result of the election, relying on Mr. Trump’s own words to make their case in the former president’s second impeachment trial.Impeachment managers said that Mr. Trump spent months leading up to the election convincing his supporters that the only way he could lose is if the vote were rigged, then urged his supporters to march to the Capitol knowing the potential for violence. Democrats pointed to statements by several rioters who said they believed they were storming the Capitol at Mr. Trump’s direction.
