Welcome to 2021! To kick off the New Year...I wanted to REWIND to some of my favorite episodes of 2020! Please enjoy this incredible podcast with my dear friend Valerie McSorley. Everything that Val and I spoke about in this episode is still relevant, foreshadowed (scary but true) and happening 6 months later. P.S.-->Today is January 6, 2021 and I am so incredibly thankful, grateful and blessed that my family and I have made it through the Covid-19 Pandemic. Our love and support goes out to all of those who suffered terrible personal losses and sicknesses this past year. So much has changed for each of us personally, professionally, financially and emotionally...we are still in the middle of it. We are still quarantining and social distancing, homeschooling and working remote...We are in this together. God Bless. xoxo Ep. 10 - GOING VIRAL - Valerie McSorley - The New (Virtual) Reality of Running a Business - The Hive New episode of "GOING VIRAL: Staying Sane, Healthy & Connected during the Coronavirus Outbreak of 2020" is here! **Please Note: The opinions expressed in this podcast are my own and my guest's own. If you are experiencing a true medical emergency or Covid-19 symptoms, please call 911.** -->I'm so excited to introduce my next guest, Valerie McSorley, Owner of The Hive, a brand new, unique event space located in Marshfield, MA and owner of Avant Garde Events in the Boston area for over 18 years. Valerie is an incredibly smart, passionate and talented entrepreneur and all around inspirational woman. Val is a real connector. She brings people together. Especially during this uncertain and difficult time, Val talks about keeping positive, connected and expressing our creativity. Here are FIVE takeaways from Valerie: 1) Get up, take a shower and get dressed every day! Spritz on your favorite perfume, put on your lipstick and style your hair. You will feel much better! 2) It's all about the People in your life, not things. Take time to Pause, Reflect and Reinvest in your loved ones. Just appreciate this time with your family or whomever you are quarantining with, and see this as a gift. This won't last forever, so cherish it NOW. 3)Have Virtual Meetups every day! Do this through Zoom, Skype, FaceTime and Google Meet. It's free! (up to 30 minutes on Zoom).Virtual Happy Hours with your girlfriends! Virtual Family Dance Parties! Trivia Nights! Martini Mondays! Wine Wednesdays... Get creative and have fun! 4)STAY HOME! The more you exposure yourself and others, the worse the spread of the deadly coronavirus will be. We have to be vigilant and really stay away...more than just 6 feet away...stay home, order online. Wash your hands! Wear a Mask and Gloves if and when you do go out. Limit your exposure. Please be safe! 5) Use this time to teach your children much needed LIFE SKILLS! While we are focusing on homeschool/academics, but really, our kids need to learn how to do their laundry, run the dishwasher, clean out their closets, wash the dishes, rake the lawn, clip the hedges, and clean out the litter box! It will change the family dynamic and take the pressure off of you. Make a CHORE CHART and have them really help out with the family chores and see this as an "opportunity," not a "punishment." --> So take this opportunity to look for the silver lining in all of this TIME we have, and reconnect with our families in the "old school" and simple way. -->You can find Valerie at: https://avantgardevents.com/the-hive-event-space -->Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/SouthShoreHive -->Instagram: @avantgardeval (https://www.instagram.com/avantgardeval) Thank you very much! -->Find us at: www.techsavvycoach.com/hustleandheartpodcast -->Facebook.com/hustleandheartpodcast -->Follow, Connect and DM us on Instagram: @hustleandheartpodcast if you would like to be our guest and Skype in!
I am so happy to introduce my next guest, Lisa DeAngelis Greig, Executive Director and Founding Leader for Scout & Cellar: Clean-Crafted Wine on episode 20 of my podcast "GOING VIRAL: Staying Sane, Healthy & Connected during the Coronavirus Outbreak of 2020." Lisa Greig has been in sales for the majority of her career, and over the past 3 years has been passionate about Scout and Cellar Wines! She wanted to add in a new revenue stream into her family’s life, and with her commitment to eating clean, organic food and using non-toxic cleaning products she wondered...Are we eating clean, but drinking dirty? Enter Scout and Cellar: Clean-Crafted Wines. As one of the Founding Leaders of the "Clean-Crafted Wine Movement, " she has built a team of over 400 consultants nationwide. Lisa is passionate about educating us about the environment and health benefits of supporting pesticide-free farmers who produce the grapes to the bottling process to keep the wines free of chemicals and added sugars. I learned so much from Lisa...whom I’ve known for 30 years! We went to high school together in the Boston area... and yes, we were “totally awesome” ‘80s chicks with big hair and leg warmers, rocking out to Bon Jovi & Motley Crue! She’s a true inspiration, discussing the need for women to Know your Worth, Find your Why and Follow your Passion. I’ve had the pleasure of tasting many of Scout and Cellar’s wines with Lisa, from the fabulous Gallivant Bubbly Rosé to the delicious Dove Hunt Dog Pinot Noir from Sonoma. And, she introduced me to the brand new product called “Wilderness Road,” a “mixable,” made of fermented grapes and has half the alcohol content of vodka, but mixes like a cocktail! With so many of us entertaining in smaller groups of family and friends at home during the pandemic… I had to join Lisa’s team and begin my own journey with Scout and Cellar! I am thrilled to introduce my fabulous guest and beautiful friend, Melanie Myers of Myers Events & Marketing and Katamabay.com - on episode 13 of my crossover podcast "Hustle & Heart Podcast with Melissa Rush" and "GOING VIRAL: Staying Sane, Healthy & Connected during the Coronavirus Outbreak of 2020." Melanie has been creating successful events for nonprofit and social clients for over a decade in the Greater Boston area. With many high profile clients in the sports & entertainment arena...she is the Go-To Gal for fundraising events! She is a truly dedicated member of her community and is always there to support a charity or meaningful cause, and lend a helping hand. Due to the challenging time for the live events industry, Melanie has shifted her attention to Katama Bay, a web design & digital marketing firm with business partner Chuck Meredith, near Boston, MA. They strive to add value to small and medium-sized businesses by increasing and maintaining their online presence through search-optimized design and targeted marketing, web design, brand awareness, organic and paid search, and social media management. During the pandemic, she advises all of her clients (such as restaurants and other services) to get COVID-19 safety certified (cleaning, screening forms, etc), reinvent themselves, consider new offerings and services (remote, Zoom, etc.), get organized, and update websites and photos of the business while they have this time. Wellness, self-care and physical fitness (she's in great shape, people!) are her cornerstones to keeping sane, healthy and positive during this time in quarantine with her husband Billy (my not-so-secret crush!) and her 2 adorable kids. Melanie recently started meditating with the help of the Oprah & Deepak Chopra app...which has given her a newfound balance, sense of calm and focus. She highly recommends we take that quiet time for ourselves to slow down, appreciate our lives and connect our bodies and souls. **Please Note: The opinions expressed in this podcast are my own and my guest's own. As a wedding and events planner for over 15 years in the Greater Boston area, Melissa and her team are weathering this new, challenging time for the hospitality, wedding and events industry with grace under pressure. Melissa has been working with her understandably emotional clients to postpone and reschedule important life events, such as weddings, baby showers and rehearsal dinners. Located in Boston's North Shore, the Willowdale Estate typically hosts 130-145 weddings per year, and she hopes her clients will soon be able to celebrate their events once again. She discusses how the entire events industry is having to change the way they do business, by rethinking and reimagining events. I am so happy to introduce my fabulous guest, Tricia Auld, local Boston comedian, on episode 11 of my podcast "GOING VIRAL: Staying Sane, Healthy & Connected during the Coronavirus Outbreak of 2020." “Tricia Auld is a Boston-based comedian who’s performed in some of New England's region’s most charming/intimidating bars, theaters, and clubs. She’s a staple of Laugh Boston, Nick’s Comedy Stop and Giggles, among other venues. Tricia combines soul-baring anecdotes about living single, sexual misadventures, and her unconventional upbringing (as the middle child of 5 sisters) with an articulate irreverence that wouldn’t be out of place in a Chelsea Handler or Whitney Cummings special. She’s been producing a showcase every first Thursday at Club Cafe for the past few years.” Tricia produced, wrote, and starred in her own comedy special “It’s My Wedding” at the legendary Nick’s Comedy Stop in Boston (see link below). She literally creates her faux wedding...iincluding Save the Dates, champagne toasts, white dress (or hot jumpsuit) and all her family and friends as guests. In it, she makes fun of the trials and tribulations of being a single woman in her 30’s as she navigates the online dating world, attends never-evending baby showers, gender reveals, and weddings, all while growing her comedy career. Tricia is smart, ambitious, funny, and dare I say, a real smoke show! She will be headlining some big theater shows in August - which hopefully won’t be postponed again… Stay Tuned! **Please Note: The opinions expressed in this podcast are my own and my guest's own. If you are experiencing COVID-19 symptoms, please call 911 or consult your doctor.** -->Eric Tjonahen, MD is a Pediatrican living with his family in the Greater Boston area. He talks about how his practice, Pediatric Associates of Norwood and Franklin, has made major changes in the way they see their young patients, reserving the mornings for newborns and infants, as well as more serious cases, and limits the numbers of patients and staff to keep a safe environment for everyone. He stresses the importance of staying home, keeping faces covered with masks and washing hands, as it is vital we keep social distancing to avoid the spread of COVID-19. Until mass testing of the public can become available, he explains that we really can't go "back to normal" or else the disease will continue to spread. We discuss how to keep an eye on the mental health of our children and family members, as this is a very stressful and scary time for everyone. He says it's important we really take the time to talk to our children about what is happening in an open and honest way, about why we have to quarantine and social distance, so that we can keep them safe and healthy. -->Eric is a very smart, talented and creative person. He and his wife Amanda met singing A Capella in college...and continue their love for singing with family and friends, hosting awesome karaoke parties and setting up fantastic Photo Booths! You can always count on Eric to bring the fun and the music! -->During this difficult time, Eric stresses that we must take the quarantine seriously, and treasure this unique opportunity we have with our family. DAY 3 of "GOING VIRAL: Staying Sane, Healthy & Connected during the Coronavirus Outbreak of 2020." **Please Note: The opinions expressed in this podcast are my own and my guest's own. If you are experiencing a true medical emergency or symptoms, please call 911.** -->I'm so excited to introduce my next guest, one of my best friends for nearly 40 years, Hania Khuri-Trapper! Hania is a certified Yoga Instructor and Teacher Trainer, Reiki Master and all around inspirational woman. Hania is a longtime childhood friend, devoted mom, outstanding graphic designer and a true inspiration to us all. Hania offers us 5 Helpful Tips for keeping safe and healthy... 1) Be Present. Pause in this present moment and slow everything down. Be here, right now. 2)Be Positive. Find Acceptance where we are, knowing we can't control what is happening. Find Gratitude and be grateful for the things you do have, not what you do not. Try to move away from Fear, Guilt and Anxiety...into a place of hope and positivity. 3) Step away from the news. Don't obsessively read websites and go down the negativity "rabbit hole." Take a break. 4)Stay Healthy by eating nutritious foods, drink water, exercise/workout or just take a nice walk. Do what you can to move your body in a even a little way. 5) Rest your body and get much needed sleep. Sleep is one of the most important things you can do to restore and rest your body. So take a nap, snuggle up and relax. -->In addition, she suggests not to over-schedule our kids so much during this time. They spend all of their days at school, then soccer, dance, basketball, or any number of extracurricular activities...and we are all exhausted! So take this opportunity to look for the silver lining in all of this TIME we have, and reconnect with our families in the "old school" and simple way. -->You can find her at www.yogawithhania.com -->Facebook: www.facebook.com/YogawithHania -->Instagram: @YogawithHania (www.instagram.com/yogawithhania) -->And, she just started doing a weekly yoga class on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/user/HaniaKT/videos -->A Big Thank You to Hania's husband, the incredibly talented, award-winning artist, Chris Trapper, for his song "Into the Bright Lights," which I played in the beginning of our interview. Read a book, call a friend, FaceTime with your grandparents & relatives, limit the iPads & tv, and enjoy the outdoors (staying 6 ft away) but understand it’s 100% ok for kids to have screentime. Hello lovely and amazing people...Episode 5 is here! My guest today is Christina AKA DJ Teenie Z, an amazing and strong woman I am happy to call my friend! In this episode, Teenie talks about finding her true passion to become a DJ...after having an "AHA moment" while visiting her brother in Brooklyn, and how she is building her DJ skill set and her business, mix by mix! We talk all about Music, from our earliest childhood memories in our parent's living room (The Beatles, classic rock, RnB), to our teenage angst years (Nirvana, REM, The Cure) and the joy of making and receiving our first ever Mixtapes. Teenie is someone who I can honestly say has a whole lot of hustle...and a big heart. She is smart, funny and not afraid to be herself, as she talks about her Greek heritage, growing up as a "restaurant kid" in her father's pizzeria (think '80s movie "Mystic Pizza,") and how those experiences helped shape who she is today. As always, we laugh a lot...about our misadventures on motorbikes in Santorini, did someone say "hernia?", banana nutella crepes, Prince tribute bands, old school '90s Rave Culture...and we get deep on being strong, independent women, the freedom of Riding Solo, and living our lives to the fullest. --> Contact DJ Teenie Z today to book her fan for your next event!
