Up next on the Local Selection, we welcome Galway-based DJ Panic Loop to the series. This week's contribution is a meddling hour of chugging techno that pays homage to various Irish producers throughout. Dial in for the next hour for this impressive showcase. For the 289th edition of the series, we host Galway-native Panic Loop, a DJ who made their club debut in September 2024, who has become a welcome addition to the cities vibrant club scene, spinning a selection of techno and electro. Alternating between numerous all-night-long sets, B2B's with Data Ryder and __ in Electric. He's also had the chance of opening things up in Factory for Bastardo Electrico label-head and Irish techno aficionado Jamie Behan for Rave Culture, as well as an appearance for Galway electro outfit Deep Sea Dweller. This mix features a range of techno flavours currently on Panic Loops' periphery. A concoction of mature grooves that incorporates eerily dark, bleepy textures and a variety of hypnotic rhythms over the course of the recording. It is an excellent showcase of true techno. In a ritualistic fashion, incorporating shivering, murky undertones while elevating the energy as the mix progresses. The mix is also a slight nod to some of Ireland's most prolific producers, featuring Havik, Casey Fable, Aero and Offtrack. Wednesday soundtrack sorted. In this NSW x Poducer episode, we sit down with Denver-based dubstep producer CØNTRA, whose path spans Suzuki violin, metal guitar, and 16+ years of bass music exploration. From growing up in the California redwoods to relocating to Denver, CØNTRA shares how nature, travel, and rave culture shaped his sound and artistic identity. The conversation gets real as he opens up about OCD, anxiety, sobriety, gym routines, cold plunges, and how mental health shapes his creativity. We dive into the Denver scene, Submission's role in his career, and what it actually feels like to go from fan in the crowd to artist on the agency roster. We also explore his philosophy on creativity (inspired in part by Rick Rubin's “antenna” concept), the myth of originality, why vocals are almost always part of his tunes, and how he's still figuring out what a “signature sound” means in modern bass music. Kicking off the new season of The Creative Boom Podcast, host Katy Cowan sits down with Paul Benney – co-founder of the cult dance magazine Jockey Slut, the legendary club night Bugged Out! and, today, the beautifully crafted biannual Disco Pogo. Paul looks back at the golden days of music magazines and club culture in the '90s, sharing stories of launching a fanzine on a shoestring, running sell-out nights that booked Daft Punk, and building a magazine that captured the spirit of electronic music. He also talks candidly about burnout, the collapse of Jockey Slut, and what it took to start again. With Disco Pogo, Paul has found a way to honour the past while creating something fresh for today – a print magazine rooted in authenticity, community, and the stories behind the music. This is a conversation about resilience, reinvention and keeping the magic alive in a changing industry.

The Compendium Podcast: An Assembly of Fascinating and Intriguing Things
In this episode of The Compendium, we unravel the twisted tale of Michael Alig: The Club Kid King Who Killed for Fame. At the height of New York nightlife, Alig built an empire of excess, flamboyance, and infamy, transforming the Limelight nightclub into a hedonistic playground where anything—and everything—was possible. But behind the glitter and glamour lurked a dark undercurrent of drug-fueled chaos, manipulation, and ultimately, murder. We dive deep into the rise and fall of Michael Alig and the Club Kids, the role of Peter Gatien, the shocking Angel Melendez murder, and how a scene built on rebellion spiraled into true crime history. From the neon-drenched dance floors of the 1990s to the gritty reality of New York crime stories, this is the cautionary tale of a subculture that burned too bright—and paid the ultimate price. We give you just the Compendium, but if you want more, here are our resources: Disco Bloodbath - by James St. James Party Monster (2003) - by Fenton Bailey & Randy Barbato Michael Alig - Wipipedia Party Monsters The Shockumentry - by Fenton Bailey Michael Alig and the Limelight Murder - by The Village Voice Host & Show Info Hosts: Kyle Risi & Adam Cox About: Kyle and Adam are more than just your hosts, they're your close friends sharing intriguing stories from tales from the darker corners of true crime, the annals of your forgotten history books, and the who's who of incredible people. Three hours of high-intensity heaters from the trio lighting up US club music. "If the baby boomer generation had the three from Belleville, millennials can say…we have Black Rave Culture." Lofty praise from Spain's WOS Festival, and yet the undeniable buzz surrounding the Washington, D.C. trio of Amal, James Bangura and Nativesun makes it feel merited. The Black Rave Culture experience is physical from start to finish. The trio's glide through the rich canon of Black dance music is, naturally, a huge chunk of the appeal. You can hear them slamming ghettotech into gqom, threading UK garage through East Coast club, stitching antic juke and swung techno, and landing the odd Mad Mike all-timer with flair. Their productions mine a similar store of energy, and you'll find plenty of those on RA.974 too. Perhaps most importantly, their tangible chemistry and sincere, undimmed enthusiasm for tunes are what makes this group so magnetic. While their RA Podcast is split threeways, it could just as easily be a round-robin session behind the decks. RA.974 is an exhilarating exercise in creating serious dance floor pressure while having a ball in the process. @black-rave-culture @jamesbangura @dj-nativesun @ama_l Read more at ra.co/podcast/974

Ok, Yasi and the Scots are back for Madchester part two. We last saw The Stone Roses after they released their celebrated EP Sally Cinnamon, on the brink of a make-or-break decision: should they sign to Jive or Rough Trade? Meanwhile, the Happy Mondays were riding the wave of their debut album Squirrel and G-Man Twenty Four Hour Party People Plastic Face Carnt Smile (White Out), and guess what? They have a new friend: Ecstasy. They're now starting to make music influenced by its heart-opening potency. This is when the rave scene starts to bubble up from the dark Manchester clubs, like the Hacienda. Listen as we trace the back half of both bands' short but very sweet catalog, from Madchester Rave On to the Second Coming. We're headed to Perth, Western Australia to catch up with Paul Harding aka El Hornet, one-third of drum 'n' bass group Pendulum, who have reached huge heights with their hard-driving neurofunk bangers that lay bare the group's background in heavy metal and hard rock. Paul is a hilarious storyteller and we talk about CB radio, surfing with sharks, trading beer for mixtapes, losing a dead person at a Pendulum show, being broke in DJ Fresh's London flat making Pendulum's first album and keeping drum 'n' bass punk af. Hosted by Vivian Host (aka DJ Star Eyes). For more info and extras, visit Ravetothegrave.org or follow us on Instagram @ravetothe.grave.

Former London and Ibiza club runner, rave MC and dance music journalist, Kirk Field has worked in the night-time industries for four decades. Armed with “two fingers and the truth”, Kirk Field's critically acclaimed debut ‘Rave New World: Confessions of a Raving Reporter' was hailed as a modern cult classic and became the UK's most popular hardback and audiobook in dance music/club culture. In 2024 his narrated audiobook was nominated for an ARIA Award and his spoken word live show is booked for a run at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. His follow up, ‘Planes, Trains & Amphetamines' tells the inside story on clubbing travel. Kirk lives in Devon with his family, a cat which is mute, and his tinnitus which sadly isn't.
Michael Jackson is the most successful solo act in the history of recorded music. Only the Beatles have sold more albums. He has the top selling album of all time, Thriller. And the 5th best selling album of all time, Bad. He was arguably the most famous man in the history of the world at his career's peak. But also.... a very troubled, beyond eccentric person who was creepy with kids, at best, or... a pedophile. I try and explore his life today... while fighting against the effects of a double-dose of Molly... for Timesuck's 400th episode. Hail Nimrod and thanks for sticking around!! Of all of the dozens of post-Pulp Fiction imitators to be released throughout the 1990's, this might be one of the more memorable ones even though it opened roughly 25 years ago to middling box office. It director Doug Liman's follow-up to his seminal indie gem of just three years - Swingers - and while he once again kept the cast young and the locations limited to LA (and Las Vegas), he went a different route with the overall setting and vibe. Whereas Swingers brushed upon swing/cocktail culture (which was a thing back in the mid '90's), this time he shifted the general setting to...Rave Culture. :o The music, the drugs, the dancing....but even moreso any number of crazy situations occurring around it or adjacent to it. Beyond that, there's not much to the plot other than this being one CRAZY night/day for several key characters played by Sarah Polley, Desmond Askew, Taye Diggs, Scott Wolf, Jay Mohr, Katie Holmes, and Timothy Olyphant. Add to that cast notable players including William Fichtner, JE Freeman, Breckin Meyer, AND.....the on-screen debut of a Melissa McCarthy, time to GO!!!See below for a link to a special video featuring the cast "performing" one of the best needle-drops from the movie:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3Z4eQ5Jq4_E Host & Editor: Geoff GershonProducer: Marlene Gershon https://livingforthecinema.com/Facebook:https://www.facebook.com/Living-for-the-Cinema-Podcast-101167838847578Instagram:https://www.instagram.com/livingforthecinema/Letterboxd:https://letterboxd.com/Living4Cinema/
You might know Moshe Kasher from his standup, from his podcast Endless Honeymoon (co-hosted with his wife, actor/comedian Natasha Leggero), or from his memoirs -- of which the latest, SUBCULTURE VULTURE: A MEMOIR IN SIX SCENES, is out now. But that's just scratching the surface in the many lives and quests of Moshe. He tells Jordan about his forays with scenes as diverse as AA, Rave culture, sign language interpretation, and Burning Man, and how it all relates to characters like Luke Skywalker, Harry Potter, and Edmund from the NARNIA series. Then, Jordan has one quick thing about a new action film from Dev Patel, and the state of action movie landscape.Find out more about Moshe's book tour at linktr.ee/MosheKasher***With Jordan Crucchiola and Moshe Kasher

I never thought I would have a conversation about nutrition that would I describe as sexy…I KNOW I KNOW but stick with me. Not only are we bringing some much needed sense and sensibility to the world of food and nutrition we go on a journey through Dale's Buddhist beliefs and how losing connection to the spiritual aspect of life can take us to some dark places. Grab yourself a cuppa and prepare to enjoy Dale as much as I did. You can still get your pre order of my brand new book, Infinite Receiving click here and thank me later! Quotes "As a teenager, I grew up in the rave scene. So trust me, food and nutrition wasn't top of my list.""Counting calories is a miserable existence.""Eating in the way that nature has already designed. It's already perfect.""Situations outside can create a challenge, but ultimately, the response to the challenge is in relation to something within us."Highlights 02:22 In the early years and even in my early teenage years, I wouldn't have thought for a millisecond that this is something that I would do. Because my diet up until the time that I really discovered nutrition was absolutely atrocious.04:31 Look, we can actively engage in our own health care. We can take steps every single day to engage in this whole process. This isn't a passive thing. This isn't something that's 100% out of our control.13:29 It's just going to use some really cheesy lines and quotes here, but they kind of illustrate the point. The first one is, if it ran, swam, grew or flew, then eat it. Everything else leave behind. And the other one, which is probably a grammatical abomination, is real food doesn't contain ingredients. Real food is ingredients27:41 If you want to drive 50 miles in your car and you put enough fuel in it to go 30 miles, you wouldn't stand there on the side of the M 25 scratching your head when the car is conked out. You'd be like, well, don't understand it. As implausible as it might sound, it's entirely possible that by this time next year, MDMA could be recognized as a medicine eligible for insurance coverage.
