Last week I had my first ever snowboarding class in a cool snow centre here in the UK.It was my husband's birthday and I wanted to surprise him by doing something we never done before, and it was so much fun.The most fun part for me was falling down into the snow and laughing out loud, literally.Two things happened... the more I fell the better I was getting at snowboarding AND the more I fell the more fun I was having.In the other hand, I could see the opposite with my husband. Paul was falling down and getting frustrated and wanting to quit and go home.We were both falling down, but how we reacted to it was our own choice.I decided to have fun and laugh it off, Paul at first decided to get frustrated and give up... So, I realised that we're the ones who get to choose how we deal with our challenges.When we want to lose weight and stop emotional eating we have lots of challenges, and you can choose to laugh it off and improve, or get frustrated and quit.I choose fun, laughter and improvement.What do you want to choose for yourself?After a couple of rounds, my husband decided to have fun instead of getting frustrated which made his experience way more pleasant and easier in the end of the day.Want to know more about the lessons I've learned on that day? Today's episode I'm opening up and talking about my struggles with anxiety. Food is not the only way to deal with anxiety and every time we use food to try to feel better we miss out on life and the opportunity to learn and grow.Being human involves having a range of emotions and sometimes we don't need to know where's coming from or what thought is creating it. All we need is the willingness to feel the emotions without making it a problem or wanting to get rid of it. Today's episode I'm talking about being human being. How to be a human being. We have expectations in life that are unrealistic and not really part of the human experience. When we have thoughts like "I shouldn't be feeling this way" we suffer. As humans we are going to have all the feelings, the spectrum of feelings, from positive to negative. Having an expectation of just being happy all the time, when we feel negative emotions we make it mean something is terrible wrong and we try to numb or avoid with food. Today's episode we are talking about failure. I failed my driving test last week and I'm sharing how we can turn things around and not use failure against ourselves. Make sure you know what failure means to you after you listen to this episode. Your actions and results is different from who you are. To help you with the differentiation, get a notebook and in one page write in the top "who am I?", write all your thoughts about you and who you are. The other page, write in the top "my actions and results" and make a list of the actions you've been taking, specially the ones that are "causing you to fail". See that the list is not alike. Today's episode I ask you an important question: Who are you?Pay attention to where your brain goes to answer this questions. We usually define ourselves by our past and things we've done and how we judge those actions.But today what we are doing is thinking "I shouldn't eat cupcake" and when we eat the cupcake what do we do? we make it mean that we are failing, not good enough, out of control, broken, and you know... that makes us feel even worse and to feel better we eat more cupcakes.The action of eating one cupcake ends up defining who we are instead of just being one cupcake. I want to challenge you this week to not use the word should/shouldn't in your vocabulary and switch to want/don't want to. I want to tell you something about me that you probably already know (or not)... I love CrossFit and weight training.I love working out! I train 4 times a week, every week for the past 3 1/2 years.I have muscle pain, sometimes I don't feel like going to class, I push my body to the limit that I never thought was possible for me. And I got a body transformation as a result. (If you want to see it, check my instagram.)I'm physically fit. At least, I am more now than 3 1/2 years ago, no doubts about it.I want you to imagine how someone become physically fit, just like I share my experience. It's a long process. Right? I was listening to Tony Robins podcast and he talked about being emotional fit, and my mind went crazy trying to get the concept.Comparing to physically fit, that means we can do things physically that someone who is not fit can't do.When I started CrossFit I couldn't do 1 push up, now I can do 20.Thinking about that way emotionally it's super interesting. Being emotionally fit is having the ability to handle and process emotions in a way that serves us best. Better than before.It's having emotional resilience to any situation life throw at us.It's being able to cope with negative emotions without having to escape by using food. But how do we get emotionally fit?By training it. Having tools to process and manage emotions and practice, practice, practice.It's spending time understanding how that specific emotion feels in your body, how does it look like to you, what's the speed, the colour, the location. It's feeling the emotion. Giving space to be there, without resisting it.It's a skill we need to practice over and over.We need to be emotionally fit to stop overeating, over drinking, over spending, etc.A Coach is like a personal trainer to your brain. A Coach will help you with the tools, show you how to do it, and guide you to places you never thought you would go.Being emotionally fit is being able to handle anything. That's what I want.
