On this episode Lia Pinelli explores emotional eating, a common but often unrecognized issue. Emotional eating isn't just stress-eating; it can be triggered by boredom, excitement, or anything that looks appealing. It involves eating for reasons other than physical hunger, which can hinder achieving peace with food. Signs of emotional eating include eating without hunger, impulsive choices, breaking self-promises, and feeling regret or anxiety after eating. To combat emotional eating, Lia suggests feeling emotions without eating and creating a fulfilling life. She outlines four steps: awareness of feelings, identifying reasons for eating, assessing those reasons, and committing to a life more satisfying than food.

Your overeating episodes actually hold the key to your freedom from these behaviors. When you become curious about what was going on in your life and within that contributed to your eating episode, then you're able to empower yourself to identify new ways to support yourself and meet your true needs so that you don't continue to spiral in unconscious eating patterns. There IS a function for your behaviors, you just have to become aware of what that is. In this episode, I use my own cookie-eating episode to demonstrate how you can use the behavior chain process to give you insight into your eating patterns according to The 5 Bodies of Health, and how you can use this insight to improve your patterns moving forward. I also share tips for creating a morning ritual, cleansing your energy, shifting your awareness and creating energy boundaries with people who drain your energy. This week on the podcast, I'm talking about the differences between physical and emotional hunger. In the episode you'll hear: Why we turn to food in response to emotions and a different way to think about this struggle How to separate out physical vs emotional hunger before you eat so you can choose what you truly want to do with food in that moment The 3 key questions to ask yourself when you're in that shame cycle from emotional eating - so that you don't just keep eating The main thing I really want you to take away from this discussion is that emotional eating isn't bad or wrong, and it's certainly not a character flaw. It can be a signal for you to look at the feelings and unmet needs that you are having outside of food, and that can actually be a really wonderful and helpful thing. Do you emotionally overeat, struggle with binge eating or know someone who does? Do you constantly critique the way you look? Do you yo-yo diet and feel less-than free and content around food and in your body?If so, this episode is definitely one for you! Today's guest is certified mind body eating coach, Jessi Jean, who turned her own decade long struggle with food & body into her business and mission. Now she helps thousands of women all around the world end the fight with food using unique brain-based techniques so they can have a peaceful relationship with food & unshakeable confidence in their skin. On this episode we discuss Jessi's own story recovering from an eating disorder, practical ways to regulate our nervous system, how we should be careful about the siloed virtual realities we can find ourselves living in through social media and so much more in the themes of healing, health and wellness. Here are a few of my favourite quotes from the episode: “I refer to it as “the known zone” not the “comfort zone” because it's not comfortable to struggle with shame and guilt and impulsiveness with food, but it's known and we often will choose what's known over what's unfamiliar, even when it doesn't serve us”. “Healing can be really exciting. I like to look at it as you're deciding what your future is instead of leaving it up to your automatic programming; it's like having a blank canvas and you're painting a new picture for the next chapter in the next season of your life.”“Fear expands when we resist it. You'll be amazed that you can do things scared and that actually the antidote to fear is in action and leaning into it.”I hope you enjoy the episode and if you do please rate, review and share with a friend! Like so many women, you likely have moments of feeling exhausted, fatigued, burned out, or just plain depleted...But the thing most women don't know is that feeling tired, does NOT need to end up in nighttime eating, comfort eating, or sabotage. Believe it or not, I feel tired too! - I'M A MOM (enough said!) - Run my own business. - Sole financial provider in our family. - Co-chair Latinx coaches community. AND MORE. The list goes on. I'd be lying if I said I never felt tired. And I KNOW that you also have your own VERY important roles and responsibilities. Here's what's important to remember: YOU ARE HUMAN. Not a robot. Not a machine. And the truth is that reaching for a bag of your favorite munchies or chocolate doesn't fix anything. Emotional Overeating of any kind can NOT address or 'solve for' the issue of being overworked and physically tired. INSTEAD, THERE ARE TWO SIMPLE, EFFECTIVE STRATEGIES THAT ACTUALLY WILL SOLVE YOUR EXHAUSTION & FATIGUE. And they solve it without ANY of the sabotage. In fact, the 2 things I teach you in this episode are actually known for ALSO supporting (and even accelerating) your weight loss efforts. I teach you these 2 simple, and TOTALLY DOABLE strategies in this episode of the Last 10 Podcast. You'll be able to stop sabotaging (especially night time eating!). You'll feel recharged and refreshed (instead of eternally depleted). You'll have new breakthroughs in your weight goals - INSTEAD of - feeling stuck on the 'I eat at night cuz I'm burned out and exhausted' so I don't lose weight hamster-wheel. *AND MOST IMPORTANT You'll UPLEVEL the way you take care of YOU in your life. Plus, let's not forget: you'll actually be even MORE able to show up for ALL the roles and responsibilities in your life that matter so much to you BECAUSE you uplevel the way you take care of you. Have you ever said "I know what I need to do, I'm just not doing it!" If you said yes, then you, my friend, are probably an emotional eater. And no, the image below is NOT what I mean by emotional eater... When I talk about emotional eating, people often think of something like the image above and think "That's not me!" But emotional eating doesn't typically look like that. Emotional eating can be eating because you're... Bored Stressed Excited Or something just "looked good" Whenever we eat for any reason other than real, physical hunger we are likely eating for emotional reasons. And there is NO SHAME in that, however for many of us emotional eating is the #1 reason we struggle to find peace with food. Here's how you can tell if emotional eating is sabotaging your health goals: You frequently eat when you're not physically hungry (learn how to recalibrate your physical hunger & satiety cues HERE). You struggle with impulsive choices in the moment that you regret later. You break promises to yourself to eat "better" or differently. You beat yourself up after eating. You feel regret after eating. You're anxious or stressed about eating. You don't trust yourself around food. You often celebrate with food. You often reward yourself with food. For the women in my 90 Days to Food Freedom program, emotional eating is THE biggest obstacle to permanent, sustainable weight loss. It is emotional eating that never gets addressed in traditional diets. Even Noom isn't there for you at 9:00pm after you finally get the kids to bed and finally have a minute to yourself and all you want is a big ass glass of wine, a pint of Ben & Jerry's, and your current binge show on Netflix. The SOLUTION to emotional overeating is: Learn to feel our feelings without eating/drinking. Create lives we LOVE, unapologetically. On the podcast I go in depth on the four steps toward that solution, which are... Become aware of your feelings! It's cliche, but SO true. When you're eating, identify your REASON for eating. Ask yourself if you like your reason, then decide if you want to continue. Commit to creating a life you love more than food! Create a life that is better than a BROWNIE! Today I'm introducing you to the KRYPTONITE that will weaken and destroy any emotional overeating and sabotaging habits. Millions of women around the world internally struggle with emotional over-eating and sabotage (sometimes, even D-A-I-L-Y !) My mission is to get you equipped with EVERYTHING you're needing in order to create the habits and results that you've been wanting, but struggling to create. Ok, so here's how it goes down: You set a goal. You say to yourself: 'ok, this is really it!'. You say to yourself you're NOT gonna overeat, you're NOT gonna sabotage this anymore because you really want this. You say to yourself that you're gonna follow your 'plan' for your weight loss. And then... Later that week (or even later that day!) ---> You overeat. YOU EMOTIONALLY OVEREAT & YOU SABOTAGE YOUR DESIRED WEIGHT LOSS, YET AGAIN. I understand this emotionally draining and viscous cycle all-too well, because I lived in it for 2 decades. I know it first hand. IT'S EXHAUSTING. One of the MOST common questions I get is: Brenda ‘HOW DO I STOP OVEREATING AND SABOTAGING MY GOALS?!' Well, in this podcast episode I'm teaching you the KRYPTONITE to weaken and destroy emotional overeating. Specifically, you'll learn the concept of BODY ASSOCIATION and I'm deconstructing this for you in a brand new way that will grant you access into a new and upgraded possibility for your weight loss results AND your life. BODY ASSOCIATION. Sound simple, yes. But do NOT underestimate or overlook it- it is NECESSARY to have as your foundation in order to create lasting change. When you integrated and develop 'body association' as a skill IT'LL BE ONE OF THE MOST SIMPLE YET POWERFULLY EFFECTIVE THINGS EVER DO. This approach will have your weight loss feeling: SIMPLE. *IF * you are willing to integrate this foundational approach...Get ready to be done with the sabotage. Get ready to be done with the ‘eff-it' moments and the emotional overeating. Get ready to be D-O-N-E with the struggle. Get ready to ENJOY the kind of weight loss results and experience you've been wanting (HELLO RESULTS, GOODBYE STRUGGLE!). You absolutely deserve to LOVE this area of your life and YES, it IS possible when you develop THIS skillset. You do NOT wanna miss this one. LISTEN NOW

Today's show is about emotional eating and overeating, why we do it, and how to overcome it. I once read that emotional hunger cannot be satisfied with food and it's spot on. So many of us eat for the sake of eating, eat to deal with different stresses, and eat based on our moods Although you’ve likely heard this on social, food is not just fuel. It’s not just "gas" for your “car”. It’s far more complex than that. It has deep social and emotional roots and is ingrained into almost every aspect of our lives. Much of our lives revolve around eating and drinking; we gather for family dinners and reunions, holidays, BBQ’s, and birthdays. We celebrate promotions and new babies with a party that involves drinking and eating. We invite old friends out and do what? Go for a drink. We go on dates and eat. There always seems to be a reason to eat and drink. One of the main reasons traditional diets fail is because you’re forced to sacrifice and/or deprive yourself of all the things you enjoy and missing out on social events that revolve around food. Food and drinks are also used as a quick pick me up when you’re feeling down, stressed, or lonely. It’s always there for you 24/7. People eat for so many emotionally based reasons including: Bored Tired Stressed Sadness Overwhelmed Weather Social events Time of day As a reward Emotional eating isn’t inherently bad but it usually is. We tend to look for sweet, salty, junk foods or alcohol when we’re going through one of these emotions. And that’s causing a decline in our health and an over consumption of calories. The key is to understand that you are, in fact, overeating because of an emotional response and then take responsibility for it. Then you can start to work towards making changes. Today's show will offer up some ideas and strategies to help.
On this week's podcast, I welcome Joyce, Kim and Debbie to share their stories! KEY TAKEAWAYS from our conversation: Huge A-ha moments like this one, “Thoughts lead to feelings which lead to actions. I am in charge of my brain and therefore, I can tell it what to do. I am in control.” The important work beyond the weight loss: “The weight loss to me was not the biggest part of this work. It was not feeling like I was controlled by constantly eating. Using food as a distraction used to be a ball and chain around my ankle. Plus, their biggest piece of advice for emotional eaters who are ready to make a change! If you aren't a member of the Breakthrough Emotional Eating Facebook group, be a part of the community. Go to: https://www.facebook.com/groups/foodbreakthrough/ and be a part of an incredibly supportive, encouraging, and life-changing collection of individuals who just are there for each other through emotional eating weight loss struggles and successes.
In this episode, I use the analogy of dealing with a clutter filled house to help illustrate ways we can handle manage our emotions without using extra food. How can we think about emotional eating? How do we stop doing it? When we stop eating extra, and there are more feelings to feel, how can we approach managing them? Are we missing opportunities for personal growth when we eat extra, instead of feeling and addressing our emotions and the things that drive them? Is there an anchor that holds in the seeming ocean of change that surrounds us? If so, what does that offer to help us manage our emotions? These questions and more are addressed in today's episode.www.joyfullweightloss.com

Many of us have a complicated relationship with food that takes away from our enjoyment of it, particularly when we're prone to emotional overeating. In this episode Arlene B. Englander shares her expertise on what leads to emotional overeating, how mindful presence can help us break the habit, and the importance of filling our lives with good things.
Eating is one of life's most fundamental and pleasurable activities. However, many of us have a complicated relationship with food, particularly when we're prone to emotional overeating. We may be preoccupied with food on the one hand, and feel guilty for the kinds or amounts of food we eat on the other. Arlene B. Englander knows the ins and outs of emotional overeating, not only from her practice as a therapist but from her own history of a troubled relationship with food. She has distilled her personal and professional background into a new book entitled How to Let Go of Emotional Overeating and Love Your Food, which was the focus of our conversation in this week's episode. Topics we addressed included: How we can get more enjoyment out of eating The importance of loving our food Ways to manage emotions other than through eating The problems with the dieting mentality Whether it's best to avoid some foods entirely Thinking traps related to food Effects of early learning on our relationship with food Why it's so hard not to overeat at home, especially at night Whether emotional eating (not overeating) can ever be a healthy exercise (with reference to this book—and apologies to the author if I mischaracterized his approach at all) Arlene presents techniques that can provide not only emotional freedom at the table, but the ability to enjoy our lives more overall. I look forward to hearing what you think of this discussion. Arlene B. Englander, LCSW, MBA, has been a licensed psychotherapist for more than 20 years. She completed her training at Columbia University and has worked in diverse settings including Cancer Care, Inc., and American Express. How to overcome binge eating and/or emotional overeating and see your entire life change for the better! "I really want to thank you for all you've done for me. I absolutely feel like a different person. I would say that you gave me my life back" ~ Lauren ORDER JOY NOW!!! The paradigm shift that will take you from struggle, deprivation and punishment to becoming intuitive - knowing what your body wants and needs related to food and nourishment, exercise and other activity, rest and sleep, feeling vibrant and energetic every day and letting go of dieting and emotional eating as your body returns to its natural weight. The number one reason why dieting fails over 97% of the time. The two most important relationships that must be repaired to overcome food and body obsession and emotional overeating. Why discipline and willpower lead to frustration and weight gain and what mindsets you need instead to lose or maintain weight and overcome eating challenges. Two situations when you should NOT exercise. Four triggers that cause us to turn to overeating and/or body bashing to avoid what is really going on!! ORDER JOY NOW!!! About Gillian Hood: Wellness Coach Gillian Hood understands that simply "eating right and exercising" is not the solution for finding a peaceful relationship with food or your body, or for losing and maintaining weight. After years of failed diets, over exercising and obsession with food and her body, Gillian discovered powerful keys to break the cycle of "living to eat", and created a positive "eat to live" method, where she could still enjoy her favorite foods anytime while naturally maintaining her health and weight. Having made peace with food, Gillian transitioned from fitness coaching to focusing on women who have reached diet bottom and want to free themselves from the obsession and shame spiral that goes with the endless dieting and overeating cycle. Gillian gets life changing results with her clients and brings a unique perspective on what it's like to be trapped in "diet prison", but more importantly, what it takes to break free of the diet mentality and get off the emotional eating roller coaster. Here are some examples of the type of results people are getting with Gillian's coaching: GILLIAN GAVE ME MY LIFE BACK!!! "I really want to thank you for all you've done for me. I absolutely feel like a different person. I would say that you gave me my life back - but I don't really remember much before I was bingeing, so it would be more accurate to say that you gave me a life. I can't remember the last time I've binged - I've overeaten a couple times, but it's rare - I don't feel bad about it. My husband is on another crazy diet and I don't care, I eat what I want and don't pay any attention to him. I feel I've lost weight for sure, despite fighting the urge to get on a scale. I'm wearing clothes that I never thought I could and I feel great in them. I get excited to get dressed when I go out, as opposed to that feeling of dread - "what will fit today?" My body isn't "perfect," but I am so much more accepting and forgiving of myself. I'm happy when I see myself in the mirror about 99% of the time (the other 1% is usually after a 12 hour shift at work)." ~ Lauren S. I LOVE & CARE ABOUT MY BODY NOW! "When I started working with Gillian, I felt terrible about my body. I would beat myself up about every little slip and each time I weighed myself or looked in the mirror, I would feel awful. Gillian taught me how to love and care for my body. She taught me that I am not a bad person because I am overweight. I learned how to enjoy life now and not be a prisoner in my body. I feel much better about my weight now than I ever have, and I feel much healthier and freer now that weight is less of an issue for me. I believe Gillian is really helping women to become their best and live up to their potential. I feel sorry I didn't talk to her sooner. I feel like I am finally being my own best friend." ~ Wendy K. DOWN TWO PANT SIZES WITHOUT TRYING!!! "When I started working with Gillian I really believed that there was no way I was ever going to lose weight and be able to eat. So far I had chosen eating. Working with Gillian I learned I could eat anything and that if I did eat what I wanted when I wanted, I was more satisfied and lost weight. I am now down two pant sizes without even giving it much thought; I just noticed my pants wouldn't stay up. I was really happy to find that when I went shopping buying the same brand and style that my body had sculpted itself." ~ Margaret B. NO MORE ROLLER COASTER!!! "I'm now off the roller coaster. I take time to recognize my hunger and satisfaction levels. I eat mindfully; I enjoy my food and the entire eating experience. Our coaching was an amazing, enlightening experience for me, and I recommend it to anyone who needs to get back to eating in a healthy way." ~ Donna T.
