The Domino Affect, Part 3: Are You Sure About That? // Jamie Nunnally

Victory Fellowship Church Podcast

Play Episode Listen Later Jan 18, 2026 40:00

Most of the regret in our lives doesn't come from the last domino—it comes from the first one. It started with a decision that we didn't stop to examine. In this message, Lead Pastor Jamie Nunnally teaches us to pause and ask, "Are you sure about that?" It's space between the dominoes that can stop the next one from falling. Lamentations 3:40 NLT Let us examine our ways and test them, and let us return to the Lord. Most regret isn't from bad intentions—it's from unexamined decisions.1. What would I think about someone who made the choice that I'm about to make? We're really good at evaluating everyone else, yet God calls us to turn that discernment inward.1 Corinthians 11:31 NASB But if we judged ourselves rightly, we would not be judged. The Word of God is first a mirror to examine our own lives, not a microscope to inspect everyone else's. You can tell a lot about yourself by paying attention to who else is making the same choices that you are. 2. Have I gotten Godly advice?Proverbs 12:15 NLT Fools think their own way is right, but the wise listen to others.Proverbs 27:6 NLT Wounds from a sincere friend are better than many kisses from an enemy.Godly wisdom always makes room for godly voices. And if everyone agrees with you, you didn't ask the right people.  3. Will I want to tell this story?Haggai 1:5 MSG Take a good, hard look at your life. Think it over. Some choices create stories you hide; others create stories you cherish. You don't write your life story all at once. You write it choice by choice.  4. Do I really want to do this, or is this what others want me to do?Some of the most dangerous decisions happen when we confuse God's voice with other people's opinions.Romans 14:12 NLT "So then, each of us will give an account of ourselves to God."Other people can advise you, but only you will give account to God for your decisions. Make sure its what you really want to do. 5. Will this glorify God?Every decision reflects your devotion.Matthew 5:16 NLT In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven. Your choices don't just reveal what you value, they reveal who you worship. Before a surgeon ever makes the first incision, the entire operating room pauses for what's called a surgical time-out. Everything stops and the surgeon asks a series of critical questions. If anything is unclear, the surgery doesn't proceed—because once the cutting starts, you can't undo it.The more important the mission, the more intentional the questions. God often speaks loudest in the pause we're tempted to skip. Are you you sure about that?

Host Jim Ellermeyer welcomes Shane Chojnacki — a professional fighter, trainer, health advocate, and pro wrestler known as Victor Benjamin — for an honest and deeply reflective conversation about resilience, choice, and personal responsibility. Shane opens up about growing up in an environment marked by addiction, violence, and scarcity, while still finding moments of community, guidance, and protection. Rather than becoming a victim of his circumstances, he made intentional decisions to stay grounded in sports, discipline, and work — even when easier and more destructive paths were readily available. Throughout this episode, Shane reflects on learning from the mistakes of others, refusing to settle for less, and choosing action over self-pity. Jim connects these experiences to mindfulness principles, recovery thinking, and the idea that real change comes from effort, behavior, and consistent choices — not just intention or wishful thinking. Topics explored include: Growing up without a safety net Making conscious “wise mind” choices Learning resilience through adversity Taking action instead of living in “ifs, buts, and maybes” Betting on yourself when others doubt you Speaking intention into existence through action This is Part 1 of a continuing conversation that sets the foundation for deeper discussions on identity, growth, and mindful living in future episodes.

Reading the new book from Mitch Albom called “Twice” (click HERE for the book info.) It gets us thinking about what if we got second chances to do things over? But we would have to live with that new choice. Also, it can be used for Love either. So many thoughts here that this is helping to see things in my life just a bit differently. I understand that what I have in my life, I would not risk changing things in my past to have what I have today.  It's also taught me a little bit, that at times, we do have a second chance - to say I'm sorry. To fix something at that moment that just got broken. The key is in the moment.  I hope this book gets you thinking about your life like it has for me. Make sure you check out all of Mitch's books HERE. Would love to hear about your thoughts if you are able to get this book or any of his books and what you thought of them. Have you ever faced a decision that left you feeling uncertain about which way to go? In today's prayer and devotional, Scripture reminds us that our steps are directed by the Lord, even when we can’t fully see or understand His plan. Christine Perry shares a personal story of feeling the Lord’s nudge to step away from her current path without knowing what would come next. What began as confusion and hesitation became a testimony of God’s perfect provision. Where Christine only saw uncertainty, God had already prepared opportunities for work, housing, and growth that she never could have orchestrated on her own. The truth is, our perspective is limited—we see only what’s right in front of us. God, however, sees the full picture. Trusting Him with our decisions means surrendering our desire for total control and stepping forward in faith, even when the path feels unclear. His direction may not always align with our original plans, but His way is always better. Today's Bible Reading "A man's steps are of the Lord; How then can a man understand his own way?" – Proverbs 20:24 (NKJV) Key Takeaways God often asks us to take the first step before revealing the next. Our plans may fall through, but God’s purposes never fail. Trusting His direction requires faith beyond what we can see. God’s provision and timing are always perfect, even when the process feels uncertain. Let’s Pray Together Lord, thank You for directing my steps, even when I don’t understand the way forward. Help me to trust Your wisdom and surrender my plans to You. Thank You for being my Shepherd, Provider, and Guide. Teach me to walk in faith, believing that Your direction is always good. In Jesus’ name, Amen. Most people spend their lives trying to outrun death instead of learning from it. This episode shows you why facing mortality directly can unlock resilience, forgiveness, gratitude, and peace while upgrading longevity, human performance, and even brain optimization. Watch this episode on YouTube for the full video experience: https://www.youtube.com/@DaveAspreyBPR Host Dave Asprey sits down with Suzanne O'Brien, RN—an end-of-life expert, hospice nurse, and founder of Doulagivers who has guided over 1,000 people through their final moments. She shares what the dying can teach the living about biohacking fear, letting go of unresolved trauma, and finding clarity before it's too late. Together they explore how hacking your mindset around death transforms not only emotional well-being but also physical health, neuroplasticity, and metabolism. You'll hear stories of people who discovered forgiveness and gratitude at the end of life, and how those practices directly influence mitochondria, sleep optimization, and longevity. They dive into the link between fear, stress chemistry, and chronic illness—and why tools like fasting, ketosis, cold therapy, supplements, nootropics, and functional medicine create the inner and outer resilience needed to face life fully.
