Dr Wendy Sweet is the founder of “My Menopause Transformation,” where she works with women globally to support them through the menopause transition. Bea Calliet joins us from France.  She was diagnosed with an autoimmune disease, called ankylosing spondylitis,  in February 2007. After almost 11 years of taking a lot of strong painkillers she decided to try healing myself naturally.  One thing led to another, she went to a functional medicine doctor who told her she had to go “gluten and many other things” free. A little over a year on this diet and she quit taking biotherapy and about 9 months later she was off all medication!  But along the way, she also learnt that diet alone is not enough. Healing naturally is much more than just diet.  That's why in January 2020, she started her blog “Go Healthy With Bea” where she shares both her autoimmune story and her gluten free recipes in order to help people on their own natural healing journey.  A year and a half after creating my blog, she decided to go one step further by becoming an Integrative Nutrition Health Coach, Certified Gluten free Practitioner and get a Certificate in plant-based patisserie at Le Cordon Bleu London in order to transform a side hustle into a whole career change.  https://gohealthywithbea.com/  https://www.facebook.com/gohealthywithb/  https://www.instagram.com/gohealthywithbea/

As a charitable foundation, Touch4Life has a two-pronged focus to ensure that physicians deliver the breast healthcare that Black and BIPOC women need and that women know and advocate for the breast health that they deserve.   Raised in Temple Hills, MD, and a lifelong MD resident, Laura recognised the disparities in breast cancer detection, treatment and survivorship that exist for Black and brown women in the United States–dying at a 41% higher rate than white women and determined to change that statistic.  Sadly racial inequities in health systems exist in New Zealand and many other countries too. Patricia Brooks Hart is a sarcoidosis sister and a life coach, based in New York City. She was diagnosed with sarcoidosis in 2010, coincidently, two years after her sister, but with very different symptoms. Patricia Brooks Hart does not think of herself as a sarcoidosis warrior, even though she is in a fight for her life. Rather, she hopes to end the fight and declare a truce, at least until we can find a cure. To do that, she has tried to learn as much as possible about how sarcoidosis affects the body, and how to practice good self-care to better withstand the disease and the side effects of medication. Pat was diagnosed in 2010 and three years later had to leave a 35-year career when sarcoidosis took her down. As she began the journey back to health, she was searching for a way to feel useful, and that day came when Ed Haskins asked her to join the admin team for his new Facebook group, Sarcoidosis for Beginners. This group is for anyone who wants to learn about Sarcoidosis since there is so much mystery that we are all beginners. Pat spends time researching information from credible sources to share, and the group provides a place where people can learn about the disease, learn how to advocate for themselves, and rely on each other for encouragement and support. As an offshoot of that group Pat created two pages just for informational purposes, "Once Upon a Time: Sarcoidosis for Beginners" and "A Holistic Approach to Managing Sarcoidosis." These pages serve as a place to share information with people who may not want to be part of a support group. Pat soon realized that the Holistic Approach to Managing Sarcoidosis is actually nothing more than a comprehensive approach to managing your health, whether you have a chronic illness or not. We were incredibly inspired listening to an interview (on Radio New Zealand) with Dr. George Jelink, author of the book "Overcoming Multiple Sclerosis," (OMS), so we reached out to the OMS charity. We invited Dr. Jonathan White, their medical advisor (who also suffers from MS) to speak with us on our recently launched podcast series "Wellness for the rest of us." This podcast, the second in our series, is a fantastic conversation highlighting paths to MS and what might be done to overcome symptoms, in terms of managing diet, stress, pharmaceuticals, and sleep. We also explore the roles of different types of fats in our diet particularly related to Multiple Sclerosis – this is a very interesting area and one we will explore more for you in future.  MS is an autoinflammatory disease, so many of the lessons learned are relevant for other such diseases, - so too is the book, which is a fascinating read for anyone, exploring or making lifestyle changes. Darcy talks with Dr. Anna Campbell about hypoxia, coughing, and frequent illness which turned into breathing issues. When he finally went to the hospital because he couldn't breathe, he was diagnosed with sarcoidosis at 44... now more than seven years ago. Sarcoidosis is an out-of-control inflamation response in the body. Is inflamation the smoking gun at the scene of auto-immune diseases? Why do some people get crohn's disease versus sarcoidosis? Are the triggers, dietary, environmental, or genetic? An amazing conversation about health and wellness for the rest of us.
