Angela is joined by special guest, Zora Benhamou, to examine the multifaceted experiences of menopause, exploring how cultural attitudes and personal stories shape women's journeys through this natural transition. Zora shares her fascinating project of interviewing women from various countries about their menopause experiences, revealing that while symptoms may be universal, perceptions and responses differ significantly across cultures. She also highlights the importance of awareness and education around menopause, discussing common symptoms such as fatigue, mood swings, and sleep disturbances, while also addressing the stigma surrounding hormone therapy KEY TAKEAWAYS Menopause is a universal experience, but cultural attitudes towards it vary significantly. In some countries, women are more open to discussing their experiences, while in others, there is a stigma that leads to rejection of such conversations. Fatigue, mood swings, and sleep disturbances are among the most common symptoms of menopause, often overshadowing hot flashes. Many women are unaware of the full range of menopause symptoms, which can include over 100 different manifestations. The perception of stress plays a crucial role in how women experience menopause. Women in less stressful environments or with a more relaxed attitude tend to cope better with menopausal symptoms, often attributing their resilience to their overall life perspective. There is a lack of awareness and acceptance of hormone therapy in many cultures. Many women are hesitant to consider hormone replacement therapy due to fears of negative health effects, despite the potential benefits it can offer during menopause. BEST MOMENTS "Menopause happens to everyone. No one's getting away with it. We all experience very, very similar symptoms. However, the attitudes are different." "I always say that I'm most worried about the asymptomatic woman, because she's the one who's not going to be aware of what's going on under the hood." "It's incredible that we've never been told... that a woman will lose her periods somewhere between 45 and 55." "Fatigue is something that's big on the list... but I think more than the mood swings would be the sleep." The First Lady of Nutrition Podcast with Ann Louise Gittleman, Ph.D., C.N.S.
Join The First Lady of Nutrition as she welcomes Dr. Daved Rosensweet, founder of the Institute of Bioidentical Medicine, “The Menopause Method,” and a leading expert in Anti-Aging Medicine. Ann Louise and Dr. Rosensweet explore the transformative power of bio-identical hormones, discussing how proper hormone therapy can dramatically alleviate the life-disruptive symptoms experienced by 84% of women in menopause. They dive into the benefits of progesterone, often called the "feel-good" calming hormone, which both men and women can benefit from. Additionally, they tackle common misconceptions about estrogen and breast cancer, revealing how women properly treated with hormones actually face a lower risk of breast cancer, heart attack, and stroke. Dr. Rosensweet also highlights the critical role of hormone delivery methods, including his patented organic oil for optimal topical application, and reveals a surprising insight: many men and women in nursing homes are there due to a simple testosterone deficiency, which can result in sarcopenia (the loss of muscle mass) — a condition that is easily treatable. Dr. Chris Shade is on the podcast for a second time. He is the founder and CEO of Quicksilver Scientific®, which is a company that makes nutritional products specializing in detoxification. In our first episode, we talked all about mercury, he walked us through my heavy metal test results, told me what to do and how to detox myself. Because Dr. Shade has a PhD in environmental science he decided to specialize in the biological, environmental, and analytical chemistry of mercury in all its forms. But today we took a deep dive into hormones. When it comes to hormone health, Dr. Shade is really looking to help practitioners, so that they can help their female patients who are dealing with perimenopausal and menopausal issues. He and his team have created liposomal hormone balancing supplements and serums that are formulated so that they have a high bioavailability and absorption that can specifically address the variety of symptoms of perimenopause, menopause, and post menopause. This is a very important episode about supplements and what actually goes on behind closed doors from two very well respected formulators Dr. Nichola Conlon and Leslie Kenny. Dr. Nichola Conlon Dr. is a molecular biologist. She got her PhD in Physiology from Newcastle University, home to the largest institute for aging research in Europe. She is also a trained Cosmetic Scientist. She has years of experience in molecular biology, particularly when she was working for a huge biotech company looking at early stage drug discovery. She then used this experience to create her own company called Nuchido to bring supercharged scientific discoveries, products and education to the public. Dr Nichola Conlon is passionate about educating women to empower us so we can make the best decisions for ourselves. Leslie Kenny is a native of Southern California living in Oxford. She is a certified health coach with the Institute for Integrative Nutrition, she was in the first cohort of Dave Asprey's Bulletproof training, she's a great patient advocate, she graduated from Harvard & Berkley, she became a sexologist and now is the founder of Oxford Healthspan, which is a nutraceutical company promoting a healthier, longer life for everyone. Oxford Healthspan is also the maker of Primeadine spermidine. When I meet with these women, we discuss the supplement industry. And what they both have told me about it raises a lot of questions and doubts. Our conversations are so mind blowing that I just have to share it with you. So that's why I decided to invite them both on at the same time to empower you with what you need to know about supplements. Today we have my menopause bestie Karen Martel. Our first interview was back in August 2022. We covered so much – hormone therapy, struggles with weight loss, peptides, nutrition, DIM, estrogen metabolism and so much more.. This time we take a deeper dive and discuss how women take hormone therapy. It can get very confusing when you just get started. Karen is on a mission to help women in this phase of life. She is not only a Certified Hormone Specialist, but she is also a Transformational Nutrition Coach, and an authority on women's weight loss. She is the host of one of my favorite podcasts called The Hormone Solution, where she unravels the enigmas of female fat loss and hormone imbalances. Karen has created a revolutionary approach to women's hormone health and weight management. She goes beyond the regular advice of diet and exercise, even disrupting what we think we know about weight loss. Today we answer some critical questions you have about hormone therapy and take a deep dive into the different methods with two very knowledgeable and experienced people. Dr. Daved Rosensweet and Jill Chmielewski. Daved Rosensweet is a medical doctor who has been treating women in menopause for over 30 years. He is the Founder of The Institute of BioIdentical Medicine and The Menopause Method. This is the program I just completed and absolutely loved. Dr. Rosensweet also wrote three books on the subject of hormones and menopause with the latest one being "Happy Healthy Hormones". You may have already seen him speak, because he has been traveling the world lecturing on the topic of hormones and functional medicine. He really is a pioneer in this field. He was the one who trained the first nurse practitioners in the United States and was in charge of health promotion for the State of New Mexico. Now, Dr. Rosensweet spends most of his time as the Medical Director of The Institute of BioIdentical Medicine, where he trains medical practitioners to specialize in menopause and andropause medicine. Jill Chmielewski is a board member of Dr. Rosensweet's Institute of Bioidentical Medicine, a Registered Nurse, Certified Health Coach, advocate for aging women, and is on a mission to change the way we approach menopause and aging. She helps midlife women break free from the mainstream way of thinking where disease and decline are accepted as an inevitable part of aging ~ and embrace the notion that it's absolutely possible to feel vibrant, happy, healthy, balanced, sexy, and strong through midlife and beyond. This is about arming women with the information we need to dodge the drug industry, understand how food heals and to live in harmony with one of the natural events in our lives.Head to Extra Bites on Gilly's Substack to watch Karen make a simple minestrone soup rich in collagen – although she does drop her phone into it. I finally finished my training with the Menopause Method developed by Dr. Daved Rosensweet of the Institute of Bioidentical Medicine. I was accepted to take this course mainly designed for doctors and other medical professionals who prescribe bioidentical hormones. Although I do not prescribe hormones, I was curious to learn what happens from a doctor's perspective in order to empower women in my community with the right information and questions to ask their own doctor's when they are curious about hormone therapy for menopause. I learned a ton and I am happy to share with you the five things that stood out for me in this course. It was so hard to decide, but I will keep following up with future podcasts to keep you informed. This episode is sponsored by Oxford Healthspan. JJ Virgin is a true pioneer in the world of health and wellness. Our first episode we recorded together covered fitness and strength in menopause (find link in the show notes) JJ is someone I have been learning everything longevity from since 2016 through her podcast, now called “Well Beyond 40” when she was 2 years into her podcasting life. Now nearly 10 years, over 1000 episodes later and 17 million downloads, she is at the top of her game and smashing it. JJ is one of the first voices I ever heard on a podcast. I loved and still love the way she gives the simple truth and puts the science into words we can all understand with real practical tips. JJ Virgin is a triple-board certified nutrition and fitness expert. She has launched 3 multimillion-dollar businesses and founded the Mindshare Collaborative, which is the most influential professional community in health. She also launched more New York Times bestselling books, PBS specials, and 7 figure brands than any other community. She has literally been on fire since her 40s and now 60s. If you're in the US, you may recognize JJ from TV. She co-hosted the show Freaky Eaters and was the nutrition expert for Dr. Phil's Weight Loss Challenges. She's also been on Dr. Oz, Rachael Ray, Access Hollywood, and The TODAY Show. You'll want to surely pick up her NY Times bestsellers like the Virgin Diet, The Virgin Diet Cookbook, JJ Virgin's Sugar Impact Diet, and JJ Virgin's Sugar Impact Diet Cookbook. Have you wished there was a hormone therapy roadmap? Well, it's your lucky day. It's exactly what I hope this episode is for you. On the regular I am approached or meet with functional doctors who do hormone therapy for clients. But this is a unique episode and I've crafted my questions hoping to answer yours: the ones you have and the ones you don't. My goal during this interview was not to let my own bias enter in but ask curious questions as if I was naive, haven't worked with functional doctors and clients and supported them as a liaison for what to ask, demand and when to get a second opinion. I've shared the difference between norms and optimal levels of labs, supported health coaches and trainers within our Flipping 50 Menopause Fitness Specialist training in understanding a hormone therapy intervention and how they can within scope of practice support clients. But today, I try to fly blind and look at the options, the facts, the science, and ask my guest to share just that too. My Guest: Daved Rosensweet MD is the Founder of The Institute of BioIdentical Medicine and The Menopause Method, as well as the author of three books on the subject including his latest "Happy Healthy Hormones". With over 30 years of experience specializing in andropause and menopause treatment, Dr. Rosensweet is an internationally known lecturer and presenter. Early in his career, he trained the first nurse practitioners in the United States and was in charge of health promotion for the State of New Mexico. Currently, Dr. Rosensweet spends the majority of his time as the Medical Director of The Institute of BioIdentical Medicine, where he trains medical practitioners to specialize in menopause and andropause medicine. Questions we answer in this episode: Pros and Cons of: pills creams pellets shots under tongue patches I would love to know if this hormone therapy roadmap was helpful for you. If you're ready to unlock the secrets of staying youthful, don't miss this enlightening episode featuring one of the top experts in the field. Your path to a healthier, more vibrant future starts with your hormones! On today's podcast, you will learn: How the myths of synthetic hormone replacement have been dispelled. Studies show that women who are treated with hormones are at less risk for breast cancer, heart attack and stroke than women who go untreated. What the benefits of hormone replacement are, including slowing cognition decline; protecting bone, skin, and artery health; preventing muscle loss; restoring libido; and as anti-aging agents. About hormone testing, including the difference between a 24 hour urine hormone test and the DUTCH test. The most effective and safest way to take hormone replacements. You absorb hormones better when they're applied to your skin and it allows you more control of dosing. This works especially well with estrogen and progesterone. Why Dr.. Rosensweet often supplements hormones with DHEA, especially with testosterone. The body uses DHEA to make androgens and estrogens, the male and female sex hormones. DHEA levels peak at about age 25, then go down steadily as you get older. That the way to a healthy life takes so much more that hormone replacement. It requires physical effort, including exercise and nutrition, as well as emotional work: learning your triggers and how to handle the stress in your life to prevent the added stress on your body. There continues to be debate about the use hormone replacement therapy (HRT) in peri-menopause and menopause. In this episode of our Wellness for the Rest of Us podcast we speak with an expert and an advocate for HRT, Dr Daved Rosensweet. We discuss the topic of HRT for women in perimenopause and beyond, including covering the chequered path of HRT. We also speak about "andropause," a lesser talked about, but equally important topic for males, who also experience decreases in hormones, particularly testosterone, which affects their healthy aging. Finally, we discuss the fine line between doing things "naturally" and using pharmaceutical and modern medical tools available to us for our overall health. Dr. Rosensweet is a world leader in female hormone therapy and continues to move the industry forward with his patented customised bio-identical hormone treatment approach. He is a published author of the book Happy Healthy Hormones: How to Thrive in Menopause as well as national lecturer and the founder of The Menopause Method and iWonderDoctor. We're digging into bioidenticals and why this matters when you are TTC. When I was diagnosed with POF/POI at 28, I was told that I needed to get hormone replacement therapy right away to protect my bones, prevent osteoporosis, and protect my heart. So I took a synthetic form of hormone replacement therapy for years. Then, I discovered that the root cause of my infertility was food sensitivity, gut infection, and chronic stress. Many of my chronic health issues went away because I committed to diet and lifestyle changes. I stopped taking hormone replacement therapy because of the negative side effects of synthetic hormones. But I know I still needed support with my hormones. Enter bioidentical hormones. You may be wondering, “Can I use bioidenticals if I am TTC?" They can be a good addition to your fertility toolkit...but they need to be used at the right time (lifestyle changes need to be prioritized first before we take the hormones). Because bioidenticals alone are not the answer, but they can be part of the solution. I'm excited to welcome Dr. Daved Rosensweet. Dr. Rosensweet is the founder of The Menopause Method, creator of BRITE, creator of I Wonder, Doctor, and the author of Happy Healthy Hormones. In this episode, you'll learn: 1) Why adding bioidentical hormones can be part of the TTC journey 2) The difference between bioidentical and synthetic hormones 3) The final word on the controversy surrounding hormone replacement therapy and the increased risk of cancer (We discuss the 2009 study - he breaks it all down) 4) Mistakes we see with hormone replacement therapy and how you can avoid them --- RESOURCES: Fab Fertile Method https://www.fabfertile.com/what-we-do/ Get your free copy of our Spring Fertility Recipe Guide (includes 5-day meal plan/grocery shopping list, all free from the TOP allergens) at https://www.fertilitydietfreebie.com/. Have you heard of hormone replacement therapy? Most of us have and unfortunately many are worried about using it. Or we just don't realize the importance. Dr. Rosensweet labels the early 2000's study on HRT and then the resulting press coverage as “outrageously odd, crazy, misogynistic.” Basically it was completely incorrect and led to women being afraid to receive HRT. In this episode, you will learn here how incredibly protective hormones are to women's health. Remember that menopause is actually a fairly new occurrence in human history. He says “You know, for the couple hundred thousand years humans have been alive, there was no such thing as menopause!”We are living longer, but we want to also live better, and you'll see here today that hormones are essential to making our health span match our life span. Have you ever experienced the feeling of not being yourself? As we age, our bodies also change. There are cycles that help with our hormones that eventually come to an end. Some examples being the menstrual decay, and as well as the degradation of testosterone levels as the years go by. But these processes ending doesn't mean you just have to accept that that is how life is going to be.In this episode, Kashif is joined by the founder of The Menopause Method, Dr. Daved Rosensweet. Over the years he has worked towards the expertise of menopause and hormone replacement therapy which sprouted from a personal story of speaking with an expert on progesterone. He is also the founder of I Wonder, Doctor, and as well as the Institute of BioIdentical Medicine. He is a nationally known lecturer and presenter at The American Academy of Anti-Aging Medicine (A4M), The American College for Advancement in Medicine (ACAM), The Age Management Medicine Group (AMMG), and more. In 2019, he was called to Washington to speak in front of The National Academies of Science Engineering and Medicine (NASEM) on "The Safety and Efficacy of Bioidentical Hormones."They discussed about how hormone replacement therapy took off until there were false stories in 2002 that changed the perspective of the people and put hormone therapy in a bad light. People thought that it would increase the risk of breast cancer and other diseases. But what is the truth about hormones?Hormones are actually a way to resolve diseases at the root cause especially since menopause affects women's anxiety, depression, physical, and psychological health. Hormones are capable of lessening risks of heart attack and breast cancer. As for men, hormones help with the symptoms of testosterone degradation. Dr. Daved Rosensweet is the Founder of The Menopause Method, a comprehensive approach to treating the many symptoms and physical changes of diminished hormones that women experience in midlife.Dr. Rosensweet is a leader in the bioidentical hormone therapy (BHRT) field. In our conversation, he debunks the common myths that many women and physicians believe about BHRT and unpacks where most of the misinformation stems from. In 2002, there was a government-led study known as the Women's Health Initiative which claimed that hormones for postmenopausal women are harmful. Years later, that conclusion was proven to be false, but the damage was already done. Dr. Rosensweet and his team at The Menopause Method are on a mission to show women that they can have dominion over their wellbeing and thrive in menopause. Dr. Rosensweet highlights incredible success stories of women treated with bioidentical hormones like estrogen, progesterone, and testosterone. He shares his recommendations for finding the right physicians and nurse practitioners who are also dedicated to advancing women's medicine and resisting the one-size-fits-all approach. Women approaching the menopause phase may experience fear and anxiety because of the changes their body goes through. Sometimes the fear can get all-consuming and hinder a woman's quality of life. There is also a stigma attached to entering the menopause phase because it means one is no longer fertile or able to produce hormones that the body needs. Your doctor may prescribe hormone replacement therapy. But does it really work? What if something goes wrong? In today's episode, Dr. Kylie interviews Dr. Daved Rosensweet, a holistic medical doctor with 28 years of experience caring for menopausal women. He is the founder of The Menopause Method. He also teaches health professionals about the treatment of women in menopause with bioidentical hormones. Dr. Rosensweet was the clinical physician involved in the first Nurse Practitioner training program in the US and was in charge of health promotion for the State of New Mexico.
