Not only is she 1/3 of the Australian pop band Sheppard ( Geronimo, Coming Home), in 2022 her debut solo E.P. hit #1 on the Australian Charts. She moved to Nashville in 2023 where she splits her time between Sheppard & her solo career. Thrilled to welcome back to the show Country Artist Amy Sheppard, a previous guest alongside her siblings George and Emma of the indie-pop sensation Sheppard. Country music is nothing new to Amy. Growing up in Papua New Guinea, her Dad would always have the Country Music Channel playing on the TV, where she was introduced to The Chicks, The Mavericks, George Strait, and ‘90s country standouts Shania Twain and Faith Hill. The first song she learned to play on the guitar was John Denver's “Take Me Home, Country Roads.” These formative influences would often come out when she was songwriting for Sheppard, only to be told it was a little too country-sounding to fit with the band. Over the past 18 months, Amy has achieved remarkable success in her solo career, amassing four Top 3 hits on the Australian country airplay chart. In addition, she was the most-played Australian female artist on country radio from 2022 to 2023. During this time, Amy released her debut EP, Nothing But Wild, which soared to #1 on the ARIA Australian Country Album chart. She also joined forces with US vocal supergroup Home Free and Travis Collins for a unique collaboration. For our second book of the book club series, we read “Beach Party” by Amy Sheppard. This was a particularly fun buddy read, as we read it whilst on our girls trip in Portugal! The Algarve was a world away from the blustery Cornish coast where the book takes place, which made it all the more fun as a breezy, beachy, murder mystery to dive into. The many red herrings and double twist in the book were no match for Ayesha's detective skills, but still kept Julia on her toes.  After a quick synopsis, we talk about the characters, the writing, and the big reveal – covering all the things that we liked and the many that annoyed us (as usual).  The best part about reading this one was getting to yell out our thoughts to each other from the next sunbed over, and we highly recommend doing a buddy read with friends the next time you are on a group trip!

Amy Sheppard is a singer, songwriter and star of the huge band "Sheppard". Lachie Stuart is a men's high-performance coach, podcaster and founder of "The Man that Can Project". Together, they are the hosts of the "Couple Goals" Podcast.  This very special episode comes to you from sunny Brisbane and Amy's family home.  Separately, we could interview both Amy and Lachie for hours as they both have incredible stories and successful careers in industries that are tough to make it in. And we did chat to Lachie individually on episode 70 that you need to check out after listening to this one.  But today's episode is unique as we dive into their unbelievable relationship which has to balance thriving businesses, global music tours and sometimes, lots of time spent apart.  They share the story of how they met in a time just before they were both about to achieve huge success and the early days of their relationship and the changes to behaviour that had to be made rapidly to make it work.  We hear the story of when Sheppard's global smash hit “Geronimo" blew the band up and the immediate change to lifestyle that occurred when suddenly Amy was touring around the world playing festivals, sporting events and the biggest tv shows in the world like Ellen.  Lachie opened up about the feeling of trying to build something he believed in while watching from the sidelines while his now wife lived her dream and found global success.  We were incredibly lucky to get a glimpse into their crazy and sometimes public relationship. Lachie was vulnerable when he shared the thought that Amy may leave him when Sheppard signed their first major deal that would make him go back to his former lifestyle. But it was amazing to hear Amy's perspective, support and belief in Lachie that he would become the man he is today.  We had plenty of laughs discussing dating, pet peeves and of course the cringiest pet names. While their insight into making a relationship so strong in a high-performance couple is second to none. There is something for everyone in this episode!  We can't thank them enough for taking time out of their super busy schedules to have an awesome chat with us.  Enjoy the amazing power duo who are Amy Sheppard & Lachie Stuart.    Follow Amy on Instagram @amysheppardpie Follow Lachie on Instagram @lachlanstuart Check out the "Couple Goals" podcast wherever you listen to podcasts.    Follow us on Instagram @dosandd_ Follow us on TikTok - @dosandd  Subscribe to our YouTube Channel here - https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCIRzwNFkau-fUwg4jUweL_g Follow us on Facebook here - The Dos & D Show | Facebook  Email us your questions as we would love to answer them on the show - thedosanddshow@gmail.com  It would mean the world to us if you could follow, subscribe and leave a 5-star review on Spotify & Apple Podcasts.

Quitting Alcohol and Returning to Yourself with Danni Carr

In this episode of the Powerful Stories podcast, I share a beautiful conversation with Danni Carr from How I Quit Alcohol. Danni is a woman I greatly admire and have had the privilege to connect with through BODfest, the exciting min-fest of self-love which covers health topics including mental health, with the aim of nurturing and celebrating confidence in all of us.    I'm particularly excited about this conversation because I believe the issue we're discussing affects everyone, no matter their age, race, nationality, sexuality. At some point, we all have to deal with alcohol and our relationship with it.    Danni and I talk about why she decided to quit alcohol, and how it changed her life. Becoming sober helped her to become present and happy in her own skin, as she focused on prioritising herself and her happiness.    Today, this incredible woman has ditched the fake glow that can come from alcohol, and instead brightly shines her own light by coming from a place of beautiful authenticity. Danni has learnt to sit in her own uncomfortable feelings and feel them, rather than trying to escape them through alcohol.    I particularly love how Danni observes that alcohol takes you so far away from yourself, while sobriety brings you back. She shares that her evolution is still a work in progress, and that she's perfectly imperfect, but much more in her power these days. This is a woman who feels complete and happy in who she is, and she truly radiates this. Enjoy!   Much love,   Tory xox   [1:47] Danni started binge-drinking from the age of 13, and from early on linked fitting in and acceptance with drinking alcohol. In her 20s, she and her husband worked in the music industry so alcohol was everyone – both on weekends with friends but also at work. As she got older and began blacking out, and not remembering putting her kids to bed – the post-drinking anxiety and shame got too much. When she felt she couldn't look at herself in the mirror anymore, she knew it was time to make a big change.    [4:48] Danni and her husband Ash made a pact with friends to take 12 months off alcohol, and she felt this gave her the permission not to drink. After this, Danni realised she felt too good to start drinking again.   [7:08] Breaking the cycle happened when she told everyone around her. She talks about learning to get through parties without a drink and how much better she felt the next morning.    [9:17] If Danni met her younger self today, she would tell her to ‘just relax, and you'll be ok, you'll find your tribe, and you don't need to fit any mould just yet'. She says that when it's a problem, alcohol can be an attempt to escape discomfort we're feeling, whereas not drinking lets us meet what we're actually feeling inside, learning to be able to feel uncomfortable at times and know that's ok.    [11:21] Danni talks about how she performed on stage sober recently for the first time, and how she and her husband made their first year off drinking about self-improvement, working at their craft and mindset.   [13:44] Danni says the secret to how she kept up her sober life often involved ‘playing it forward' – asking herself how will she feel tomorrow? She also practices visualisations before attending an event where saying no might be tricky and asking herself, ‘What's the most loving thing I can do for myself right now?'.   [15:27] Danni says that after quitting alcohol for good, she sees the whole world differently, from appreciating the sunrise every morning when she does her meditation, to her connections with people, which have improved and become richer.    [17:51] She shares three Powerful Steps that listeners can take to quit alcohol, including adopting a gratitude mindset, exercising every day and visualising where you want to be.    [18:22] Danni;s legacy is to help people to see a different way of being, especially those who are in a place where they feel there's no way out. She says that change is always possible.   [22:59] Danni's next powerful step includes the new challenge of writing a book with her husband, and the continuing evolution of finding out who she is.      Bodfest is a mini -festival devoted to body positivity including inspiring talks with women like Vanessa, also Emily Ratajkowski, Maria Thattil, Moana Hope, Amy Sheppard, Isabella Manfredi and so many more. Wow – we so excited to introduce this next guest (and still slightly in shock). Amy Sheppard (@amysheppardpie) is a singer-songwriter for the Australian indie-pop band Sheppard. You may have sung along to their most famous songs on the radio – ‘Geronimo', ‘Coming home' or ‘kiss my fat ass' However, that's not the main reason why we wanted to get Amy on the waffle. A couple of years ago Amy found herself very instrumental in a movement that she then termed kiss my fat ass (#kissmyfatass). Since then it has exploded in the most positive sense. In this episode, Amy talks a lot about her Journey, the difficult years at school, what instigated her negative body image and how she journeyed through to recovery. We also talk through the pressures of the music industry, when she first noticed those negative thoughts around her body and the strategies she used to overcome them. Our favourite part has to be her definition of health and what her future holds. We are still a little bit shocked at the privilege it was to have her on
