Arrow Exploration CEO Marshall Abbott joined Steve Darling from Proactive to discuss the company's 2024 year-end reserves evaluation, conducted by Boury Global Energy Consultants Ltd. The results highlight significant reserves growth across all categories, reinforcing the high resource density of the Tapir Block in Colombia and Arrow's ability to drive future growth through drilling. Abbott revealed that proved developed producing (PDP) reserves surged by 92% to 2.38 million barrels of oil equivalent (MMboe), primarily due to the successful horizontal drilling campaign at Carrizales Norte. The net present value (NPV-10) before tax for PDP reserves stands at $71.3 million ($29.89/boe). Additionally, proved (1P) reserves increased by 10% to 5.80 MMboe, driven by discoveries at Alberta Llanos and further horizontal drilling success at Carrizales Norte. The NPV-10 for 1P reserves is $114.57 million ($19.75/boe). Arrow delivered strong reserves replacement ratios of 134% (1P) and 231% (2P), fueled by major discoveries in the Alberta Llanos Carbonera, Guadalupe, and Ubaque formations, as well as continued development at Carrizales Norte. These results emphasize the sustainability of Arrow's growth strategy and the long-term value of its Colombian and Canadian assets. Looking ahead, Arrow is preparing for a robust 2025 drilling program with a fully funded $50 million capital budget, balancing development drilling and low-risk exploratory wells. The company remains committed to expanding its reserves base and enhancing shareholder value. #proactiveinvestors #arrowexplorationinc #aim #axl #tsxv #axl #OilAndGas #EnergyInvesting #ReservesGrowth #MarshallAbbott #LlanosBasin #OilDiscovery #EnergyStocks #Investing #ProactiveInvestors
Comet Ridge Ltd (ASX:COI) managing director Tor McCaul sits down with Proactive's Tylah Tully to give an overview of the company, its projects and investor case. McCaul also provided an update on drilling operations at Mahalo East where Mahalo East 1 vertical well spudding has started. This is part of the company's broader exploration efforts in the northern Mahalo Hub, where Comet Ridge holds 100% equity in four ATP areas. The Mahalo East 1 well is about 25 kilometres east of the Mahalo North Pilot Scheme, where 2P and 3P Reserves have already been certified. The well has two key objectives: to gather core and log data across the coal reservoirs and to serve as a production well for the upcoming Mahalo East 2 lateral well. The well will be drilled to a total depth of 400 metres, intersecting four coal reservoirs. McCaul highlighted the importance of this work, noting that the project received a $5 million grant from Queensland's Frontier Gas Exploration Grants Program. The aim is to gather technical data to integrate Mahalo East into the company's future development plans. Updates will be provided as drilling progresses. #ProactiveInvestors #CometRidge #ASX #MahaloEast #GasExploration #QueenslandEnergy #MahaloHub #ATP2061 #GasReserves #FrontierGasGrants #EnergyExploration #CoalReservoirs #CondorEnergy #DrillingOperations #NaturalGas #EnergyDevelopment #GasExplorationUpdates #QueenslandGas #CometRidgeLimited #EnergySector #AustralianGasExploration #GasFairway

Proactive's Tylah Tully breaks down 'Just the Facts' of the latest news from Kinetiko Energy Ltd (ASX:KKO, OTC:KKOEF). Kinetiko is advancing its shallow conventional gas projects in South Africa, focusing on reducing the country's reliance on coal and imported energy. The company's flagship Mpumalanga Project is set to deliver significant gas volumes to support South Africa's energy transition to cleaner and more reliable sources. Over the past year, Kinetiko has successfully completed drilling and coring campaigns in blocks ER272 and ER270, consistently striking gas. This has resulted in a 2C contingent gas resource of 6 TCF and a maiden 2P gas reserve of 6.4 BCF, representing only a small portion of the company's overall acreage. The upcoming five-well production test program, scheduled for Q4 next year, will provide crucial data to refine production models and secure stable gas flow rates for commercial production. Kinetiko also demonstrated the commercial viability of its gas production through a partnership with FFS Refiners, using a 1.2 MW gas generator. The company plans to develop an LNG facility from this field, with a target to deliver its first LNG production cluster within 18 months. #ProactiveInvestors #KinetikoEnergy #ASX #NaturalGas #LNGProduction #EnergyTransition #SouthAfricaEnergy #GasExploration #FFSRefiners #GasProjects #CleanEnergy #GasReserves #EnergyInnovation #EnergySecurity #ShallowGas #SustainableEnergy #ResourceDevelopment #LNGFacility #CleanerEnergy #GasProduction #SouthAfrica #EnergyUpdates

i3 Energy PLC (AIM:I3E, TSX:ITE, OTC:ITEEF) chief executive Majid Shafiq joins Proactive's Stephen Gunnion with details of a positive refinancing for the company. The company has entered into a reserve-based lending (RBL) facility, secured against its Canadian reserves and assets. The facility totals C$75 million, comprising a C$55 million revolver and a C$20 million operating loan, with an option to index the rate to the Canadian prime rate. This new arrangement offers a slightly better interest rate compared to the previous loan and is expected to reduce as central bank interest rates fall. It also effectively halves the company's current interest costs due to cash balances being held with the lending bank, offsetting the loan. Shafiq said the refinancing has freed up $25 million Canadian annually, previously allocated to amortising the existing loan. This amount will now be reinvested in the business. Approximately C$50 million remains undrawn from the new facility, available for future investment to grow the business. The flexibility and lower interest payments provided by this facility are highlighted as significant benefits. Shafiq emphasised the importance of partnering with a Canadian bank, noting their understanding of the Canadian oil and gas sector and the capability to assess risk accurately, leading to potentially lower capital costs. This relationship is also strategic for accessing development capital for organic growth and mergers and acquisitions (M&A). Shafiq said the company's 2023 reserves update reveals stable reserves despite production, with 93 million barrels 1P and 180 million barrels 2P. He said this stability, achieved with minimal capital expenditure due to low gas prices, underscores the quality of i3 Energy's assets and its efficient management. The company maintains a low production decline rate and a diverse portfolio, enabling flexibility in response to commodity price changes. Looking ahead, Shafiq said i3 Energy plans to use its enhanced liquidity for growth initiatives and will update the market on its capital programme. The relationship with a major Canadian bank is expected to provide significant flexibility and options for the company's growth strategy. #i3Energy #OilAndGas #Refinancing #CanadianEnergy #ReserveBasedLending #EnergySector #Investment #CapitalGrowth #ReservesUpdate #MajidShafiq #ProactiveInvestors #invest #investing #investment #investor #stockmarket #stocks #stock #stockmarketnews
Interview with Marshall Abbott, Director & CEO of Arrow Exploration Corp. Our previous interview: https://www.cruxinvestor.com/posts/arrow-exploration-tsxvaxl-45m-drilling-campaign-to-double-oil-output-4826Recording date: 18th March 2024Arrow Exploration presents a compelling investment opportunity as a high-growth junior oil producer focused on the prolific Llanos Basin of Colombia. With a proven management team, attractive asset base, and fully-funded growth plans, Arrow is poised to deliver strong production growth and shareholder returns in 2024 and beyond. The company's investment thesis is underpinned by its recent exploration success in the Carrizales Norte field Tapir Block where Arrow's 2P reserves has significantly increased from 8 million barrels to approximately 12 million barrels. This provides a solid foundation for future development and production growth.Arrow is currently producing approximately 3,300 barrels of oil per day (bopd) and is targeting significant growth in 2024. With a board-approved capital budget of US$45 million, the company plans to drill a combination of vertical and horizontal wells, which are expected to drive production to 4,000-6,000 bopd by year-end. This represents potential growth of 20-80% compared to 2023 levels.Importantly, Arrow's growth plans are fully funded by operating cash flow at current commodity prices with $13-15 million of cash on the balance sheet. This financial strength is supported by a favorable fiscal regime in Colombia, where Arrow pays just a 12% royalty and no taxes while it continues to reinvest capital.Despite its compelling growth outlook, Arrow's shares currently trade at less than 2x cash flow based on its 2024 projections - a significant discount to junior oil and gas producer peers. As the company delivers on its operational targets and increases market awareness, there is potential for significant valuation upside.View Arrow Exploration's company profile: https://www.cruxinvestor.com/companies/arrow-explorationSign up for Crux Investor: https://cruxinvestor.com

With a backdrop of favourable oil prices and successful field operations, Arrow Exploration has seen significant growth. Operating in Colombia's rich hydrocarbon basins, the company boasts a productive capacity exceeding 3,000 barrels per day and holds reserves of 11.8 million barrels on a 2P basis. Financially stable, Arrow Exploration sits on $15 million in cash, generating monthly cash flow of approximately $2.8 million. The company has outlined a $45 million capital expenditure for the year, fully self-funded, expecting to conclude with $13 to $14 million in the bank post the drilling of 15 wells. Arrow's IPO launch in 2022 has yielded a 43% gain, marking it as a standout on both the AIM and TSX exchanges. The shareholder structure includes UK institutions (33%), retail investors (20%), and Canada's largest onshore natural gas producer, Canacol Energy Ltd, owning a 20% stake as Arrow's parent company. Management has invested significantly, holding just under 10% of the company, with a total of 280 million shares outstanding. The company's strategic operations and drilling programs in Colombia are supported by a seasoned team with extensive experience, emphasizing a strong commitment to environmental, social, and governance (ESG) standards. Arrow has actively contributed to local communities, engaging in infrastructure and welfare projects. Financially, Arrow benefits from Colombia's attractive fiscal regime, with average royalties of 12% and substantial tax incentives for reinvestment. The company's operational strategy includes a mix of low-risk development wells and exploration opportunities, aiming to reach a production milestone of 10,000 barrels per day within three years. The presentation also highlighted Arrow's efficient capital deployment towards high-potential prospects, with an ongoing emphasis on exploration and development within Colombia's prolific oil and gas basins. #ArrowExploration #ColombianOil #HydrocarbonBasins #OilProduction #EnergyInvestment #DrillingProgram #OilAndGas #ESGStandards #CapitalExpenditure #ExplorationSuccess #ProactiveInvestors #invest #investing #investment #investor #stockmarket #stocks #stock #stockmarketnews

„Az ember és a föld összetartoznak. Az egyiket a másikért teremtette. Noé napjaiban, amikor a föld romlott lett, mert minden test megrontotta útjait, Isten azt mondta: „Minden testnek vége elérkezett előttem, mivelhogy a föld erőszakoskodással telt meg általuk: és íme elvesztem őket a földdel egybe.” (1Móz 6:12-13). A mű eredeti angol címe: „Treasures in Isaiah” Írta: E.J.
Arrow Exploration CEO Marshall Abbott joined Steve Darling from Proactive to announce the interim results for the company's 3rd Quarter and 9 months of 2023. The company reported total oil and natural gas revenue, net of royalties, of $13.9 million, nearly double compared to the same period in 2022. Net income was $7.1 million, and adjusted EBITDA reached $9.8 million, both more than double compared to 2022. The company maintains a strong cash position with $12.8 million at the end of Q3 2023. Abbott shared with Proactive the company's successful drilling activities, including the Carrizales Norte-2 (CN-2) and Carrizales Norte-3 (CN-3) wells at the Tapir block, resulting in additional production and reserve additions. The company has significantly increased its reserves from the Carrizales Norte discovery (CN), adding more than 3.92 million barrels of 2P reserves. Looking ahead, Abbott mentioned the company's plans to drill two additional wells at Rio Cravo Este (RCE) by year-end and another development well on the Oso Pardo Block in the Middle Magdalena Basin. In 2024, Arrow Exploration plans to execute a $40 million capital program, which includes drilling 15 wells. The focus will be on the Carrizales Norte discovery, with three horizontal wells planned. Additionally, low-risk step-out and exploration wells are scheduled at the Mateguafa Attic and Baquiano prospects. #proactiveinvestors #arrowexplorationcorp #aim #axl #tsxv #axl #mining # #ArrowExploration #OilandGas #CEOInterview #RecordQuarter #EnergyNews #ExplorationSuccess #FinancialPerformance #BusinessGrowth #OilIndustryUpdate #InvestmentOpportunity #ResourceExploration #EconomicNews #CorporateSuccess #StrategicPlanning #DrillingUpdate #HydrocarbonDiscovery #ProfitableVentures #FinancialNews #MarketInsights #InvestmentStrategy #FutureOutlook #OilReserves #EnergyInvestment #EconomicProspects #CorporateAchievements #invest #investing #investment #investor #stockmarket #stocks #stock #stockmarketnews

Blue Energy (ASX: BLU) managing director John Phillips joins Small Caps to discuss the company's gas developments in Queensland. The company recently revealed a 36% increase in the estimated total proved and probable (2P) reserves in its Sapphire Block gas development. The new independent assessment of the Sapphire project also provided a 16% increase in 3P+2C aggregate gas resource available to 543 pj of recoverable gas. The reserves and resources upgrade support the gas supply volume required under a non-binding MoU between Blue Energy and Queensland Pacific Metals. In June, Blue Energy signed a non-binding MOU with Queensland Pacific Metals Energy (QPME) to facilitate the supply of gas into the latter's newly acquired Moranbah Gas Project plant at Moranbah. Well, the Lenstra family has a strong claim to that title. From their Dutch roots, they have contributed so much to our modern world — both from a theoretical and a practical point of view. I suppose there's something in the nature of the Dutch that not only wants to solve real problems, but do it in a scientific way. That approach is also the beating heart of academic research — to take major problems and solve them through collaborative efforts, and where each researcher breaks solves part of the puzzle. The Internet — and in fact our modern world — has been created through the coming together of all the amazing work of researchers over many decades. Meet the Cryptography and Problem-Solving Brothers My grandfather was an electrician, and my father was one too. I suppose electrical things are in my blood. It was where I started my career, and I have always had a love for everything that relates to electrons. I must admit I gave myself a little too many electrical shocks when I was a child, as the temptation to take things apart just seemed too strong for me. And, it still amazes me that we often just take electricity — and all its applications in our modern world — for granted. Where would we be without our control of electricity and all things electrical? You certainly wouldn't be reading this article, now. So, sometimes, there's something in our blood that defines our future careers. And for the Lenstra family that was certainly the case, and from their Dutch roots, Hendrik, Arjen, Andries and Jan Karel have become important mathematicians. One of the most famous of the brothers for those who have studied networking is the mighty Jan Karel Lenstra (J.K. Lenstra) and whose many major breakthroughs include scheduling, local searches and the travelling salesman problem. We can thus all thank Jan for his work on routing problems, and which led to the creation of routing protocols on the Internet: The solving of the routing problem on the Internet, allowed the Internet to scale to levels that we see now, and where we have almost instant access to information from any part of the planet. We can thank J.K. Lenstra for providing that foundation. Arjen followed a cryptography focus for his work, including many classic papers such as those related to the factorization of polynomials and a famous paper entitled “Ron was wrong. White is right” [here]: But, Arjen's most cited paper included his brother (Hendrik W. Lenstra Jr.) as a co-author [3]: And, in these days of Microsoft Word and LaTeX, don't you just love the pen markup on the paper? The brothers also collaborated on another classic paper — and which included the mighty J.M Pollard [2]: Lenstra–Lenstra–Lovász (LLL) When the two brothers worked together they created some of their best work, and it was the classic Factorizing Polynomials with Rational Coefficients paper [3] that led to the Lenstra–Lenstra–Lovász (LLL) method [paper]. The paper also included mighty Laszlo Lovász [here] (who has an h-index of 109): This will use this method — defined as Lenstra–Lenstra–Lovász (LLL) — to crack the signature, and discover the private key used to digitally sign the message. This will search for the private key that has been used to sign a message with ECDSA. In this case we will generate two signatures, and then search for a private key. One of the most common signatures is ECDSA (Elliptic Curve Digital Signature Algorithm) and which is used with Bitcoin and Ethereum. With this, Bob creates a random private key (priv), and then a public key from: Next, in order to create a signature for a message of M, he creates a random number (k) and generates the signature of: The signature is then (r,s) and where r is the x-co-ordinate of the point kG. H(M) is the SHA-256 hash of the message (M), and converted into an integer value. If the k value is revealed for any of the signatures, an intruder can determine the private key using: This works because: and so: and for priv: We can then use the code [here] to implement a searching method based on LLL: import ecdsaimport randomimport libnumimport olllimport hashlibimport sys# https://blog.trailofbits.com/2020/06/11/ecdsa-handle-with-care/ G = ecdsa.NIST256p.generatororder = G.order()print ("Curve detail")print (G.curve())print ("Order:",order)print ("Gx:",G.x())print ("Gy:",G.y())priv = random.randrange(1,order) Public_key = ecdsa.ecdsa.Public_key(G, G * priv)Private_key = ecdsa.ecdsa.Private_key(Public_key, priv) k1 = random.randrange(1, pow(2,127))k2 = random.randrange(1, pow(2,127))msg1="Hello"msg2="Hello1"if (len(sys.argv)>1): msg1=(sys.argv[1])if (len(sys.argv)>2): msg2=(sys.argv[2])m1 = int(hashlib.sha256(msg1.encode()).hexdigest(),base=16)m2 = int(hashlib.sha256(msg2.encode()).hexdigest(),base=16) sig1 = Private_key.sign(m1, k1)sig2 = Private_key.sign(m2, k2)print ("nMessage 1: ",msg1)print ("Message 2: ",msg2)print ("nSig 1 r,s: ",sig1.r,sig1.s)print ("Sig 2 r,s: ",sig2.r,sig2.s)print ("nk1: ",k1)print ("k2: ",k2)print ("Private key: ",priv)r1 = sig1.rs1_inv = libnum.invmod(sig1.s, order)r2 = sig2.rs2_inv = libnum.invmod(sig2.s, order) matrix = [[order, 0, 0, 0], [0, order, 0, 0],[r1*s1_inv, r2*s2_inv, (2**128) / order, 0],[m1*s1_inv, m2*s2_inv, 0, 2**128]] search_matrix = olll.reduction(matrix, 0.75)r1_inv = libnum.invmod(sig1.r, order)s1 = sig1.s for search_row in search_matrix: possible_k1 = search_row[0] try_private_key = (r1_inv * ((possible_k1 * s1) - m1)) % order if ecdsa.ecdsa.Public_key(G, G * try_private_key) == Public_key: print("nThe private key has been found") print (try_private_key) A sample run is [here]: Curve detailCurveFp(p=115792089210356248762697446949407573530086143415290314195533631308867097853951, a=-3, b=41058363725152142129326129780047268409114441015993725554835256314039467401291, h=1)Order: 115792089210356248762697446949407573529996955224135760342422259061068512044369Gx: 48439561293906451759052585252797914202762949526041747995844080717082404635286Gy: 36134250956749795798585127919587881956611106672985015071877198253568414405109Message 1: helloMessage 2: goodbyeSig 1 r,s: 115147473306387600780958700123813228515236063210926878166205132442387398405974 78422551211706787416844282162734821752165856246967039833155909830188362436931Sig 2 r,s: 72928835934664146344187979593177679887058837944881110039604237325952057142506 34831214671095490475430891005520988929988430486970993941519827388518136205821k1: 2238116107289725910464212774221939217k2: 23155266189808659522258191324208917771Private key: 3126769432554995310932591745910468237140199425344791317304188208833915624553 It is a truly fantastic paper, and well worth a read. In December 2019, a team led by Paul Zimmermann of INRIA announced the factorization of the largest ever RSA modulus (RSA-240): RSA-240 = 124620366781718784065835044608106590434820374651678805754818788883289666801188210855036039570272508747509864768438458621054865537970253930571891217684318286362846948405301614416430468066875699415246993185704183030512549594371372159029236099RSA-240 = 509435952285839914555051023580843714132648382024111473186660296521821206469746700620316443478873837606252372049619334517 × 244624208838318150567813139024002896653802092578931401452041221336558477095178155258218897735030590669041302045908071447 The factorization involved factorizing a 795-bit integer into its prime number factors. It caused industry experts to define that RSA would only be safe with at least 2,048-bit keys. Actually it was Arjen, in the 1990s, who was the first to crack the early RSA challenges, and managed to factorize 330 (100 decimal digits), 364, 426 and 430 bit modulus values [here]: Factorizing with elliptic curves Hendrik W. Lenstra Jr. became a Professor at the University of Amsterdam in 1979, and then, in 1987, he appointed to the University of California, Berkeley. One of his most famous PhD students is Daniel J. Bernstein [here], who is famous for producing standards such as Curve 25119, ChaCha20 and Poly1305. In the year Hendrik was appointed to Berkley, he outlined a method to factorize integrations using elliptic curve methods [1]: The security of several public key methods rely on the difficulty in factorizing a modulus created from the multiplication of large prime numbers. RSA is a good example of this, and where we take two large prime numbers (p and q), and multiply them to create a modulus (N). The difficulty is then to be able to find p and q, if we know N. The two core methods we can use for this factorization are the general number field sieve (GNFS) method and ECM (Elliptic Curve Method). ECM With his method, we define the moving from a point P on an elliptic curve to 2P. For this we find the tangent to the point P and use this to find 2P. This tangent will be defined with a slope (s) and with a gradient in the form of a/b. For this we must find the modular inverse of b. If we cannot find the modular inverse of b, a factor of N is gcd(N,b), and where gcd() is the greatest common denominator. If our curve is y²=x³+ax+b, the slope (s) will be: as defined in differentiation. In detail, we first pick a random point P=(x0,y0) on an elliptic curve of: We also select a random value of A and then calculate: For two points on the curve: P=(Px,Py) and Q=(Qx,Qy) , the slope of the line between them will be: With this we have s in the form of a/b (modN) . Next we define: and using: If Px=Qx and Py=−Qy, we define as 0 [Identity], else we calculate R=P+P=2P=(Rx,−Ry): Here are some test runs: N=15 (Factor: 3 and 5 Try!

This is: Are Bayesian methods guaranteed to overfit?, published by Ege Erdil on June 17, 2023 on LessWrong. Yuling Yao argues that Bayesian models are guaranteed to overfit. He summarizes his point as follows: I have a different view. Bayesian model does overfit. Moreover, Bayes is guaranteed to overfit, regardless of the model (being correct or wrong) or the prior ( “strong” or uninformative). Moreover, Bayes is guaranteed to overfit on every realization of training data, not just in expectation. Moreover, Bayes is guaranteed to overfit on every single point of the training data, not just in the summation. He uses the following definition of "overfitting": a model "overfits" some data if its out-of-sample log loss exceeds its within-sample log loss. Interpreted in a different way, this is equivalent to saying that the model assigns higher probability to a data point after updating on it than before. Andrew Gelman makes the point that any proper fitting procedure whatsoever has this property, and alternative methods "overfit" more than ideal Bayesian methods. I think the proper way to interpret the results is not that Bayesian methods are guaranteed to overfit but that the definition of "overfitting" used by Yuling Yao, while intuitively plausible at first glance, is actually poor. Still, proving the fact that Bayesian methods indeed must "overfit" in his sense is an interesting exercise. I tried understanding his derivation of this and gave up - I present an original derivation of the same fact below that I hope is clearer. Derivation Suppose we have a model parametrized by parameters θ and the probability of seeing some data y according to our model is P(y|θ). Now, suppose we draw n independent samples y1,y2,.,yn. Denote this whole data vector by y, and denote the data vector with the ith sample omitted by y−i. Under Bayesian inference, the within-sample probability of observing the value yi in the next sample we draw is P(yn+1=yi|y)=∫θP(θ|y)P(yi|θ)dθ On the other hand, Bayes says that P(θ|y)=P(θ|y−i,yi)=P(θ|y−i)P(yi|y−i,θ)P(yi|y−i)=P(θ|y−i)P(yi|θ)P(yi|y−i) Plugging in gives P(yn+1=yi|y)=∫θP(θ|y−i)P(yi|θ)2P(yi|y−i)dθ or P(yn+1=yi|y)P(yi|y−i)=Eθ∼P(θ|y−i)[P(yi|θ)2] We can decompose the expectation of the squared probability on the right hand side using the definition of variance as follows: P(yn+1=yi|y)P(yi|y−i)=Eθ∼P(θ|y−i)[P(yi|θ)]2+varθ∼P(θ|y−i)(P(yi|θ))=P(yi|y−i)2+varθ∼P(θ|y−i)(P(yi|θ)) where I've used the fact that Eθ∼P(θ|y−i)[P(yi|θ)]=∫θP(θ|y−i)P(yi|θ)dθ=P(yi|y−i) to get rid of the expectation. The variance term on the right hand side is nonnegative by definition as it's a variance, and it's strictly positive as long as there's any uncertainty in our beliefs about θ after seeing the data y−i that would influence our probability estimate of observing yi next. This will be the case in almost all nondegenerate situations, and if so, we obtain the strict inequality P(yn+1=yi|y)>P(yi|y−i) What does this mean? The finding is intuitively obvious, but poses some challenges to formally defining the notion of overfitting. This is essentially because the ideal amount of fitting for a model to do on some data is nonzero, and overfitting should be "exceeding" this level of ideal fitting. In practice, though, it's difficult to know what is the "appropriate" amount of fitting for a model to be doing. Bayesian inference is ideal if the true model is within the class of models under consideration, but it might fail in unexpected ways if it's not, which is almost always the case in practice. I think the lesson to draw from this is that overfitting is a relative concept and claiming that a particular method "overfits" the data doesn't make too much sense without a point of reference in mind. If people have alternative ways of trying to construct an absolute notion of overfitting with the a...

Bill Powers (Mining Stock Education) and Shubham Garg (White Tundra Investments) each placed big bets on Prospera Energy. They did so independently of each other but come together in this show to share why they are bullish on the company. Neither Bill nor Shubham has received compensation from Prospera. Both are investors in the company. Shubham will be a strategic partner for both engineering support and business development initiatives moving forward. Listen to CEO Samuel David and VP Finance Chris Ludtke explain Prospera Energy's investment thesis in this episode. For the past two years Prospera has been in restructuring as legacy debts and non-compliances have been largely resolved. During this period, the team has grown production from 80 bpd to 1,250 boepd and reduced production costs from C$60/barrel to under C$40/barrel. They believe that in the next 2-3 years they can reduce production costs to possibly under C$20/barrel and achieve 10,000+ boepd by optimizing current assets and through strategic acquisitions. The company has about 400 million barrels of oil in place. And Prospera's core assets in Saskatchewan and Alberta had previously, during peak oil times when they were being fully developed by multinational oil companies, already saw production of over 10,000 boepd. The company has the facilities to accommodate over 10,000 boepd. 0:00 Introduction 1:23 Why Bill invested in $PEI.v 3:29 Why Samuel David took on Prospera's restructuring 6:11 Why Samuel chose restructuring rather than bankruptcy 11:04 Lacey and Richardson families financed restructuring 13:00 Shubham Garg & White Tundra are strategic partners 19:07 Shubham's $PEI.v blue sky price targets 22:44 Prospera optimizing and lower production costs 24:21 Role of hedging production? 25:25 Significant increase in 2P reserves & reserve life index 28:26 Analogue company for Prospera? 29:23 Horizontal drilling program 33:19 Prospera's partnership with Aduro Clean Tech to transform heavy oil into higher-value fuels 34:23 Enhanced Oil Recovery Techniques 36:06 10,000+boepd target in 2-3yrs is very doable 37:42 Sunk and replacement costs for Prospera's facilities 39:42 Shubham's commentary on PEI's share structure 41:18 Shubham: “The company has achieved escape velocity” 43:09 Shubham: “New wells are being managed well” 44:31 Shubham: Many ways to increase production 47:19 Final thoughts https://www.prosperaenergy.com/ Stock Exchange Listings (TSX.V: PEI, OTC: GXRFF, FRA: OF6B) 2023 Year of Record Growth Press Release: https://money.tmx.com/en/quote/PEI/news/8281083222543338/Prospera_Positioned_for_2023_Record_Growth_after_2022_Transformational_Year_of_Production_Revenue_and_Profitability Sign up for our free newsletter and receive interview transcripts, stock profiles and investment ideas: http://eepurl.com/cHxJ39 Bill Powers placed a big bet on $PEI.v with his own cash at an average cost basis of about C$.08/share. ONCE UPON A GENE - EPISODE 159 Social Security Disability Revealed - Why It's So Hard to Access Benefits and What You Can Do About It with Spencer Bishins Spencer Bishins has a Master's degree in economics and a law degree, but after working for SSA for more than 10 years, he shifted his expertise to demystifying the complicated disability system. His first book, Social Security Disability Revealed: Why It's So Hard to Access Benefits and What You Can Do About It, explores the obstacles disability claimants face as they navigate the benefits system. EPISODE HIGHLIGHTS Can you tell us about your career and what motivated you to write your book? After law school, I accepted a job with the Social Security Administration. The SSA system sometimes feels like a computer is deciding a person's case. That's partly because the rules can be very strict and partly because they're monitoring how many cases are being paid to over a million people that file for social security disability benefits every year. Feeling like a claimant is a statistic, moving through an in-personal process where their story is lost can be frustrating. The purpose of the book is to help people understand the process better and know how to deal with situations that may arise during the process. What is the difference between SSI and SSDI? There are two social security disability programs. Social security tax paid through payroll funds the retirement program, but it also funds the SSDI program. SSDI is only for adults, but adults can also apply for the SSI program if they don't qualify for SSDI benefits. SSI payout is a lot lower payout and a lot stricter. Kids can also receive SSI based on the standard of impairment and functioning, as referenced in the ruling SSR 09-2P to SSR 09-8P. If a child has been approved for SSI, as they approach adulthood, you'll be notified that the child will undergo an evaluation to determine if they're able to work and they may lose their benefits. If a parent has worked and earned SSDI benefits, their adult child can file a claim on their parent's earning record through a program called Disabled Adult Child (DAC) claim. The wage-earner has to be deceased, retired or disabled and in some way a social security recipient themselves. For parents who care for their children full time and can no longer work, how can they benefit from social security disability? If you've worked long enough to earn social security credits, you may have SSDI coverage. Filing a disability claim if you've paid into the system is called an entitlement and you're entitled to receive benefits if you qualify. You can talk to a social security representative if you're considering filing a claim for yourself as a parent. If you're approved for SSDI, you can also get access to Medicare.

Shownotes I loved this episode. I got to have a chat with Tupi (or 2P for friends) Cabrera, an iconic longboarder from Puerto Rico, who has been entertaining a love-story with longboarding since the nineties. About a year and a half ago, he launched Longboardarian, a personal brand and online business to promote longboarding around the world. Tupi's just started a podcast, and as a fellow podcaster, I thought it would be nice to give him an opportunity to share his story… In our episode, Tupi share's his personal story. We get to find out what it was like to own a surf shop in Puerto Rico and then move to the USA and live in a landlocked area for over 7 years. We talk about his podcast and I pick his brains about how he's working on building his personal online business "Longboardarian". What is really interesting is Tupi's pioneering and innovating spirit, he's a walking longboard encyclopedia and is a really fun guy to talk to. I really love the way Tupi is never giving up on educating himself and investing time into creating a passive income and enlightening people's smartphones with interesting longboarding stories. There's a lot of knowledge in the episode and you will find links to the resources here or on your podcasting app or on theoceanriderspodcast.com.
