In this thought-provoking episode of Balancing the Christian Life, Dr. Kenny Embry engages in a conversation with Tommy Humphries, a college professor at Saint Leo University, about the existence and character of God. They delve into the complexities of belief, drawing parallels between faith and marriage, and explore the transformative power of love in the Christian journey. Join them as they navigate through questions of doubt, the limitations of human understanding, and the pursuit of a deeper relationship with God.Key Takeaways:Simple but Complicated: The question of God's existence is foundational to Christianity, but it's more complex than a simple yes or no.God as Love: Tommy believes God is love, and you can't talk about God without talking about love.Human Reason & Faith: Both human reason and faith play a role in understanding God. Even atheists and theists can have similar views if terms are clarified.Doubt and Faith: Doubt is part of the human experience, even for Christians. A lack of doubt can be a sign of shallow thinking.Marriage as an Analogy: Both marriage and faith involve commitment before full understanding and deepening of the relationship over time.God's Character: Believing in God involves understanding His character, not just acknowledging His existence.Love as the Core: Love is the greatest of all virtues, and the ultimate goal is to become a perfect lover of God and neighbor.Good of Believing in God: Belief opens us to a deeper understanding of the world and a transformative relationship with God.Memorable Quotes:"I became a Christian for very different reasons than I stay a Christian, because I think the reason I became a Christian was to escape hell. But I don't stay a Christian to escape hell." - Kenny Embry"God is love, and the heart of love is the ability to give yourself completely to another for their good." - Tommy Humphries"The real work of a theologian is to present a love which cannot be deconstructed." - Bishop Daniel Flores"Faith, hope and love, and the greatest of these is love." - 1 Corinthians 13:13Call to Action:Sign up for the free Balancing the Christian Life conference.Additional Notes:Dr. Kenny Embry is a conservative church of Christ member and communication professor.Tommy Humphries is a Catholic and a college professor. The conversation explored the complexities of belief in God, the nature of faith, and the importance of love in the Christian life.Dr. Embry emphasizes the importance of learning from people with different perspectives.Remember to be good and do good.If you would like to sign up for the 2024 Balancing the Christian Life Conference, go to www.balancingthechristianlife.com and click the menu at the top.Support the show

As volunteer searchers try to locate all of teen girl Sade Robinson's remains, a gruesome discovery... this time, at a remote, tree-lined stretch of beach along Lake Michigan. Just after 7:30 a.m., someone walking along a South Milwaukee water line discovered an arm and torso. The remains washed ashore about a quarter mile away from a nearby apartment complex. Residents watched as officers carried a body bag down the cliff to recover the body parts. Police have continued their search using a sonar detection boat to scour the lake.   During their investigations, police discovered Maxwell Anderson had a “sex dungeon” in the basement of his West Milwaukee home, according to a law enforcement source. Cops found a ‘sex sling', restraints, and handcuffs. A close friend of Anderson's said that on a visit to Anderson's home last year, he noticed a large hole in the ground about 5 feet long by 6 feet deep. Anderson said he was working on an underground basement, despite having a large basement in the home already. Neighbors say the basement in the home had small windows that were always covered, so you could not see inside.     Police also found gas cans in the garage, and blood in several areas, including on bedding and the wall of a stairwell leading to the basement. After initial DNA tests, an amended probable cause affidavit reveals the blood is not Sade Robinson's.  Joining Nancy Grace Today: Dr. Jorey Krawczyn – Police Psychologist, Adjunct Faculty with Saint Leo University; Research Consultant with Blue Wall Institute, Author: Operation S.O.S. – Practical Recommendations to Help “Stop Officer Suicide”  Keith Cormican - Underwater Search and Recovery Expert.  Director, Bruces Legacy.  Searching for Sade in bodies of water. Teen Willard Miller pleaded guilty to the murder of his Spanish teacher Nohema Graber and now a judge has sentenced him to life in prison. Iowa law does not permit juveniles to be sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole, so Miller, 17, will serve a minimum of 35 years before he is eligible for parole.  Willard Noble Chaiden Miller and Jeremy Everett Goodale were accused of killing 66-year-old Nohema Graber. The boys were students at Fairfield High School in Fairfield, where Graber had been teaching Spanish since 2012. Police found Graber's remains on November 3 at Chautauqua Park in Fairfield. A tipster led investigators to the teens. Police say social media evidence ties both suspects to Graber's death. According to a criminal complaint, in a social media exchange, the teens appeared to know specific details regarding Graber's death, including how the teacher died, and the motive. Information on a specific motive has not been publicly released. Investigators obtained search warrants for both suspects' homes and found clothing that appeared to have blood on them. A witness who knew the suspects told police the suspects were seen at the park on November 3. Prosecutors said Miller was upset about a grade and had been seen arguing with her about it. Just over three months later,  Amy's body was found by a jogger in a farm field in a nearby town.  Investigators say it appears the little girl's body was most likely dumped shortly after her abduction. McKenna Brown, a teen hockey star, commits suicide after alleged bullying by three hockey teammates. The group of teens had been friends for years, but that changed when Brown asked one of the girls if it would be ok for her to begin talking with that girl's former boyfriends. The girl said yes, but her actions over the next few days proved it was far from fine.  The girls allegedly began harassing Brown via text messages.  Even after Brown apologized the attacks continues.    The teammate encouraged others to cut ties with McKenna and “leave her without a single friend.”  The bullies also reportedly shared deeply private information about Brown's sexual assault with other members of the hockey team.  Within hours, Cheryl Brown would find her daughter dead on the bedroom floor.  Since the bullying came to light, the three teammates have been suspended pending the outcome of an investigation into what happened. The Lightning High School Hockey League launched a probe, as did the Statewide Amateur Hockey of Florida, and USA Hockey hired outside counsel to perform another review.  The girls are appealing their suspension.  Joining Nancy Grace Today: Cheryl Brown - Victim's Mother Hunter Brown - Victim's Father, Lieutenant - Palm Harbor Fire Rescue David W. Amy Mihaljevic was just 10-years-old when she went missing. She told friends at school the day she disappeared that she was going with someone to buy her mom a surprise gift.  Eye witnesses reported seeing Amy speaking with a white male, at a local ice cream shop and then leaving with him though a parking lot.  Later police discover, Mihaljevic and other girls in the area has been contact by telephone by the abductor. The estimated 30-something-year-old man arranged to meet Mihaljevic after school. Just over three months later,  Amy's body was found by a jogger in a farm field in a nearby town.  Investigators say it appears the little girls body was most likely dumped shortly after her abduction. Mihaljevic dies from a combination of stab wounds to the neck and a blow to her head. Some of the things that were know to be with or on Mihaljevic that day have never been found: the boots Amy was wearing, a denim backpack, a binder with "Buick, Best in Class" written on it, and turquoise earrings in the shape of horse heads.     TIPLINE: Bay Village Police Department (440) 871-1234 Joining Nancy Grace Today: Shera LaPoint - Genetic Genealogist, Author: "The Gene Hunter", Founder: TheGeneHunter.com, Twitter: @LapointShera   Dale Carson - High Profile Attorney (Jacksonville), Former FBI Agent, Former Police Officer (Miami-Dade County), Author: "Arrest-Proof Yourself, DaleCarsonLaw.com  Dr. Jorey Krawczyn - Psychologist (Panama City Beach, FL), Adjunct Faculty with Saint Leo University; Research Consultant with Blue Wall Institute, Author: "Operation S.O.S."”, bw-institute.com Greg Smith - Special Deputy Sheriff, Johnson County Sheriff's Office (Kansas),  Executive Director of the Kelsey Smith Foundation, www.kelseysarmy.com   Dr. Michelle DuPre - Former Forensic Pathologist, Medical Examiner and Detective: Lexington County Sheriff's Department, Author: "Homicide Investigation Field Guide" & "Investigating Child Abuse Field Guide", Forensic Consultant, DMichelleDupreMD.com  Nichole Vrsansky - News Anchor, CBS 19 News, Facebook: "Nichole Vrsansky Cleveland 19", Twitter: @NVrsansky, Podcast: "Dark Side of the Land, Who Killed Amy Mihaljevic?"   See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

A Philadelphia family is suing TikTok after their 10-year-old daughter dies trying a video challenge posted on the social media site.  The challenge,  called the 'blackout challenge," encourages users to asphyxiate themselves, pass out and regain consciousness, while on camera.  Nylah Anderson was found unconscious in her mom's bedroom closet hung from a purse strap.  Tawainna Anderson, Nylah mother, says the video platform is negligent and has a 'defective design.' Nylah saw the challenge on the app's 'For You' page. According to the lawsuit, the company's algorithm sent the video to the 10-year-old.   Last year, a 12-year-old boy died trying the same challenge. Murder charges against Suzanne Morphew's husband, Barry,  have been dismissed.  The Colorado mom has been missing since Mother's Day of 2020. Prosecutors filed a motion to dismissed without prejudice — meaning charges can be refiled at a later date. Police claim they are close to finding Suzanne Morphew's body, but the weather and snowpack are delaying searches.  Prosecutors wrote in their latest motion that they have zeroed in on a “remote and mountainous” area currently covered by five feet of snow, near the Morphews' home. During an April 8 hearing, the judge barred 12 of the prosecution's 14 witnesses from testifying as expert witnesses.
